These issues were found by Tarjei Mandt, and are described in this blog post: http://mista.nu/blog/author/mista/ CVE-2011-2300 allows gaining elevated privileges within a Windows guest due to a vulnerability in the Windows Guest Additions. It's impossible to check the details here because we only distribute the Windows Guest Additions as binary in non-free. According to the blog entry 4.0.10, the version in unstable and testing, is fine. I cannot tell ifrom our sources if the old 3.2.10 version in stable is affected at all. However, if it was, there is no way to update that package short of uploading the new 4.0 version to stable. CVE-2011-2305 allows executing arbitrary code on the host due to a vulnerability in the VirtualBox graphics stack. This one affects only the version in backports. Unstable and testing already have 4.0.10 which already contains the fix and stable has 3.2.10 which didn't have the problem. Bug#635604: dnet-common: package causes ethernet address to be set to aa:00:04:00:0a:04
Package: dnet-common Version: 2.56 Severity: critical Justification: breaks unrelated software when libroarcompat1 is installed, dnet-common is a recommended package brought in with libdnet when apt/aptitude is configured to bring in recommended packages. This caused the ethernet hardware address to be set to aa:00:04:00:0a:04, causing DHCP and telnet to fail, and also caused problems on one machine using ftp. A clear demonstration of the problem would be to run: # ifconfig eth0 which would show the new aa:00:04:00:0a:04 ethernet address, and then to run: # ifdown eth0 followed by # ifup eth0 If the DHCP server is only expecting the actual ethernet card's hardware address, the machine running dnet-common will fail to get an IP address. If the DHCP server issues IP addresses regardless of ethernet hardware addresses, the machine running dnet-common may a different IP address from when it started up, as the hardware address supplied by the machine is now different. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.0.0 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_AU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#634451: hwinfo: FTBFS: /usr/include/dbus-1.0/dbus/dbus.h:29:33: fatal error: dbus/dbus-arch-deps.h: No such file or directory
tags 634451 + patch upstream thanks William Vera wrote: This is because dbus is already discontinued in Debian and hwinfo still depends on it D-Bus is not discontinued. (Perhaps you meant HAL?) This FTBFS appears to be caused by the multiarch transition: hwinfo wrongly hard-codes the CFLAGS for libdbus (which changed in dbus 1.4.12-3, and in recent Ubuntu versions too). It should ask pkg-config, which would work regardless of D-Bus version (and installed location, for that matter). Please forward this patch upstream - ideally they should be using pkg-config --libs for both D-Bus and HAL too, rather than hard-coding -ldbus-1 and -lhal, but that's less likely to fail randomly. Hi Colin. On Sun, 2011-07-24 at 11:02 +0100, Colin Watson wrote: Did this work as you expect in some previous version? Which one? Yes definitely,.. but unfortunately,.. I don not remember which one.. Bug#635668: libdbd-odbc-perl: package may be built with incorrect pointer size on 64-bit systems
Package: libdbd-odbc-perl Severity: grave Tags: security Justification: user security hole Because of changes that Microsoft made to the ODBC specification, the previously 32-bit binary protocol now supports 64-bit values on systems that support it (e.g. on amd64 and possibly the ia64 architectures). During build time, DBD::ODBC probes for a utility called odbc_config, which, like pkg-config, is intended to provide developers with the compiler flags used to build unixODBC itself. However, because this is not included with Debian's unixODBC (it is not installed into any of the unixodbc binary packages), it is not possible to tell whether the package should be compiled assuming 32-bit or 64-bit data types. When the odbc_config cannot be found (since it is not available in Debian), the macro SIZEOF_LONG is not defined, so DBD::ODBC assumes that unixODBC was built with 32-bit-long SQLLEN and SQLULEN. This raises a potential security issue because unixODBC could write 64-bit values into buffers that are only 32-bits large (DBD::ODBC having provided 32-bit-long buffers based on the assumption of SQLLEN and SQLULEN being 32-bits). This issue is explained at length on the blog of the DBD::ODBC upstream developer: http://www.martin-evans.me.uk/node/116 -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental'), (1, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
