This is not grave since something still works. Too bad it chokes on the inbox
folder though. When did this problem start happening?

When downloading the new messages list from the main, upper folder of an
IMAP account, or when trying to Check Mail, kmail does not show any new
 message and fires an error:

 Error al recuperar mensajes.
El proceso para el protocolo imap://localhost terminó inesperadamente.

That is: the kio_imap process died unexpectedly. The server is OK, as I've
tried with Evolution and it has a lot of messages Kmail has not shown me.
There are gigs of available disk and memory, so it is not that kind of
 problem.

Problem does not arise when clicking on a child folder, just on the
principal or when checking for new mail.

Install kdepimlibs-dbg, attach gdb to the running kio_imap4 kioslave process
(gdb -p process id), send backtrace [1] here.

Also check ~/.xsession-errors

Package: gnome-shell
Version: 3.0.2-1
Severity: grave
Tags: upstream
Justification: renders package unusable

libmozjs4d has been obseleted and removed from the debian repositories (I
believe due to a security vulnerability). Other packages that depended on it
such as gjs and libgjs0b have been re-built against libmozjs5d. Unfortunately
gnome-shell is still built against libmozjs4d and depends on it.

As a result gnome-shell is now uninstallable from the debian repositories.

Please re-build / re-define dependencies against libmozjs5d (or indeed
libmozjs6d).

N.B. I have not tried downloading the source and re-building it myself, since I
still have a copy of libmozjs4d installed, so I'm not sure if it is that simple
:)

overwrite '/usr/share/man/man8/fstrim.8.gz', which is also in package

Same for me and 2.19.1-4

It's fine that fstrim is now part of util-linux, but util-linux needs proper
Conflicts/Replaces: fstrim to take over the package. Simply removing the
fstrim package from Debian is not sufficient to solve this.

Bug#635276: [Pkg-virtualbox-devel] Bug#635276: CVE-2011-2305 / CVE-2011-2300

2011-07-27 Thread Michael Meskes
These issues were found by Tarjei Mandt, and are described in this blog post:
 http://mista.nu/blog/author/mista/

CVE-2011-2300 allows gaining elevated privileges within a Windows
guest due to a vulnerability in the Windows Guest Additions.

It's impossible to check the details here because we only distribute the
Windows Guest Additions as binary in non-free. According to the blog entry
4.0.10, the version in unstable and testing, is fine. I cannot tell ifrom our
sources if the old 3.2.10 version in stable is affected at all. However, if it
was, there is no way to update that package short of uploading the new 4.0
version to stable.

CVE-2011-2305 allows executing arbitrary code on the host due to a
vulnerability in the VirtualBox graphics stack.

This one affects only the version in backports. Unstable and testing already
have 4.0.10 which already contains the fix and stable has 3.2.10 which didn't
have the problem.

Bug#635592: [regression] Assertion failure in emit_inc_line_addr at ../../gas/dwarf2dbg.c line 926. on mips(el)

2011-07-27 Thread Modestas Vainius
Package: binutils
Version: 2.21.52.20110707-1
Severity: serious
Justifaction: causes other packages to FTBFS on mips/mipsel

Hello,

It seems that binutils has regressed on mipsel and mips. The failure is like:

/tmp/cce8vszV.s: Assembler messages:
/tmp/cce8vszV.s: Internal error!
Assertion failure in emit_inc_line_addr at ../../gas/dwarf2dbg.c line 926.
Please report this bug.

Regression was probably introduced in binutils_2.21.52.20110703-1 since that
release includes big gas related changes. However, I can't confirm that since
none of buildds use it anymore so lets assume that regression was introduced in
binutils_2.21.52.20110707-1. Logs of some failures are below:

* binutils_2.21.53.20110720-1:

https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=kdebasearch=mipsver=4%3A4.6.5-1stamp=1311076807

The same packages succeed if they get built with binutils_2.21.52.20110606-2:

https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=kdebase-workspacearch=mipsver=4%3A4.6.5-1stamp=1311492656
https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=kdebasearch=mipsver=4%3A4.6.5-1stamp=1311466122

There seem to have been some changes to the gas/mips* area in the upstream VCS
repository. Maybe you should try to package a new upstream snapshot.

Bug#635602: rinse is building hybrid 32/64 bit systems

2011-07-27 Thread Laurent Grawet
Package: rinse
Version: 1.8.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi

When not specifying --arch switch on amd64 system, rinse downloads the
basic rpm set for i386 architecture and then install aditionnal
packages for amd64 arch. You end up with a mixed 32/64 bit system with
missing libraries... a real mess. It should download amd64 right from
the start instead.

Impacted versions are at least: 1.7 (from Squeeze), 1.8, 1.9.

This is very easy to reproduce with:
rinse --verbose --distribution centos-5 --directory /opt/test

Regards,

Laurent

Do you mean which it does _if_ nssLibraryDirectory is not set at all in

Makes more sense and removing the line nssLibraryDirectory = /usr/lib

The (source) packages fasianoptions, farma, cairodevice, fassets are all
current according to Mehdi's buildd status pages, so I am considering these
as run-time bugs of the archive auto-rebuild. As discussed, the R package
build is highly standardized and automated.

Bug#635604: dnet-common: package causes ethernet address to be set to aa:00:04:00:0a:04

2011-07-27 Thread Arthur Marsh
Package: dnet-common
Version: 2.56
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

when libroarcompat1 is installed, dnet-common is a recommended package brought
in with libdnet when apt/aptitude is configured to bring in recommended
packages.

This caused the ethernet hardware address to be set to aa:00:04:00:0a:04,
causing DHCP and telnet to fail, and also caused problems on one machine
using ftp. A clear demonstration of the problem would be to run:

# ifconfig eth0

which would show the new aa:00:04:00:0a:04 ethernet address, and then to
run:

# ifdown eth0

followed by

# ifup eth0

If the DHCP server is only expecting the actual ethernet card's hardware
address, the machine running dnet-common will fail to get an IP address.

If the DHCP server issues IP addresses regardless of ethernet hardware
addresses, the machine running dnet-common may a different IP address
from when it started up, as the hardware address supplied by the machine
is now different.

Bug#634451: hwinfo: FTBFS: /usr/include/dbus-1.0/dbus/dbus.h:29:33: fatal error: dbus/dbus-arch-deps.h: No such file or directory

William Vera wrote:

D-Bus is not discontinued. (Perhaps you meant HAL?)

This FTBFS appears to be caused by the multiarch transition: hwinfo wrongly
hard-codes the CFLAGS for libdbus (which changed in dbus 1.4.12-3, and in
recent Ubuntu versions too). It should ask pkg-config, which would work
regardless of D-Bus version (and installed location, for that matter).

Please forward this patch upstream - ideally they should be using
pkg-config --libs for both D-Bus and HAL too, rather than hard-coding
-ldbus-1 and -lhal, but that's less likely to fail randomly.

Simon

Hi,

We blocked by libnotify-0.7

This package also needs libnotify-0.7 to compile, which is still in
experimental.

I'll update this package when all the Build-Depends are uploaded to
unstable.

This package builds with -Werror, and GCC 4.6 triggers new warnings
which will make the package fail to build. Currently a Debian patch
just passes
-Wno-error=unused-but-set-variable and
-Wno-error=unused-but-set-parameter
to avoid build failures, but this patch will be reverted with the
GCC 4.6.1 release, and the severity of the report will be raised.

The full build log can be found at:

This is NOT a grave bug. You can easily work around this bug by
specifying the architecture on the command line. Therefore the package
is not unusable.

It seems that no default architecture is set.

Hi!

Frederic Peters fpet...@debian.org writes:

It is not possible. Some tools (say dh7) nowadays seem to do a cat
configure.log on a failed build -- something that can be done if you
tend to have to debug these kind of problems more often -- manually or
by using these kind of tools.

Bug#626112: openssh-server: ssh doesn't log some failed authentications to auth.log anymore

2011-07-27 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Hi Colin.

On Sun, 2011-07-24 at 11:02 +0100, Colin Watson wrote:
Did this work as you expect in some previous version? Which one?
Yes definitely,.. but unfortunately,.. I don not remember which one..

If you use 'LogLevel VERBOSE', does that help?

Can you provide some examples of log messages that fail2ban is noticing
 and banning?
The problem isn't fail2ban,... it's that sshd doesn't log these attempts
at all...

But your idea (don't know why I didn't come up with this myself) with
LogLevel helped!

Now (with VERBOSE) messages like the following get logged to auth.log:
Jul 27 22:33:29 hilbert sshd[4542]: Set /proc/self/oom_score_adj to 0
Jul 27 22:33:29 hilbert sshd[4542]: Connection from 129.187.131.203 port

Jul 27 22:33:30 hilbert sshd[4542]: Failed publickey for root from
129.187.131.203 port 33023 ssh2
Jul 27 22:33:30 hilbert sshd[4544]: Set /proc/self/oom_score_adj to 0
Jul 27 22:33:30 hilbert sshd[4544]: Connection from 129.187.131.203 port

Jul 27 22:33:31 hilbert sshd[4544]: Failed publickey for root from
129.187.131.203 port 33024 ssh2

fail2ban also detects them now (I guess it goes for the Failed
pub..)...

So the problem seems to be, that those messages are no longer logged in
the default LogLevel.

Cheers,
Chris.

Well the logs make it pretty clear what's happening. Setting CC=gcc-4.4
without build-depending on it tends not to work so well.

So I'm out of ideas how to find the real sources.

Given that the true sources seem to have disappeared,

Hm, just googling for ucs.dtx gives some hits in comp.text.tex from this

There is a ucs.dtx at

The package build-depends on libdbi0-dev (= 0.8.2), but libdbi0-dev
is only a virtual package in unstable, so this build-dependency cannot
be satisfied.

Bug#635668: libdbd-odbc-perl: package may be built with incorrect pointer size on 64-bit systems

2011-07-27 Thread Jonathan Yu
Package: libdbd-odbc-perl
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Because of changes that Microsoft made to the ODBC specification, the previously
32-bit binary protocol now supports 64-bit values on systems that support it
(e.g.
on amd64 and possibly the ia64 architectures).

During build time, DBD::ODBC probes for a utility called odbc_config, which,
like
pkg-config, is intended to provide developers with the compiler flags used to
build
unixODBC itself. However, because this is not included with Debian's unixODBC
(it
is not installed into any of the unixodbc binary packages), it is not possible
to
tell whether the package should be compiled assuming 32-bit or 64-bit data
types.

When the odbc_config cannot be found (since it is not available in Debian), the
macro SIZEOF_LONG is not defined, so DBD::ODBC assumes that unixODBC was built
with 32-bit-long SQLLEN and SQLULEN.

This raises a potential security issue because unixODBC could write 64-bit
values
into buffers that are only 32-bits large (DBD::ODBC having provided 32-bit-long
buffers based on the assumption of SQLLEN and SQLULEN being 32-bits).

This issue is explained at length on the blog of the DBD::ODBC upstream
developer:
http://www.martin-evans.me.uk/node/116
