Bug#637818: aimage: FTBFS with wrong check for libssl
aimage was removed from Debian testing. The upstream author stopped working on this tool. So, unless someone else create a fork of the upstream, it will not come back into Debian. -- Christophe Monniez -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#628243: syfi: FTBFS: syfi/swig/SyFi_wrap.cc:3109:50: error: 'const class GiNaC::basic' has no member named 'tinfo'
Hi Luca, On Sun, Aug 14, 2011 at 10:33 PM, Luca Falavigna dktrkr...@debian.org wrote: I uploaded swig2.0 2.0.4-2.1 which provides the fix in order to let syfi to build again. Could you please look whether it's OK now? Yes, the problem with swig2.0 is resolved with the 2.0.4-2.1 upload. Thank you. Having syfi built is important to complete ginac transition. Ok, I will ask upstream if a new release is planned soon. If not, I'll patch and upload to fix this bug. Bug#637975: iceape-browser: depends on iceape which conflicts with iceape-browser
On 2011-08-16 10:06 +0200, Mike Hommey wrote: On Tue, Aug 16, 2011 at 09:49:40AM +0200, Sven Joachim wrote: Package: iceape-browser Version: 2.0.14-6 Severity: grave The traditional iceape-browser package is not installable because iceape declares an unversioned Conflicts with it. That very much defeats the purpose of the traditional package. Can you explain what your problem is exactly? I tested upgrade paths, and it worked. If you're not upgrading, why do you want to install iceape-browser when the package you want is iceape? If you are upgrading, please paste the error you get from apt. I did aptitude safe-upgrade, noticed packages that were hold back and iceape-browser was among them. Then I tried aptitude install iceape-browser which does not find a satisfactory solution. If this is only theoretical from the dependencies of the package, well, that was on purpose ;) It is true that both aptitude full-upgrade and apt-get dist-upgrade would work, but then iceape is in danger of getting autoremoved immediately. Since most systems have packages installed that depend on or recommend www-browser or mail-reader, this is not likely to happen for many people, but the danger is there. You can avoid that by using versioned Conflicts (or better, Breaks) and leaving the cleanup of the transitional package to the sysadmin. Then aptitude safe-upgrade actually works. Bug#636215: translation pane not shown
-=| Michael Biebl, Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 05:48:24PM +0200 |=- could you try starting gtranslator with a fresh configuration. Either create a new user account, or (re)move ~/.gtranslator and ~/.config/gtranslator The single file that I removed causing the translation pane to reappear was ~/.config/gtranslator/gtr-layout.xml Disabling the plugins was the first thing to do (before looking in .config as advised) and it didn't help. After removing ~/.config/gtranslator/gtr-layout.xml the translation pane reappeared and enabling all plugins had no ill consequences. The bad layout file contained: ?xml version=1.0? dock-layoutlayout name=__default__dock name=__dock_1 floating=no width=-1 height=-1 floatx=0 floaty=0//layout/dock-layout The good that was recreated: ?xml version=1.0? dock-layoutlayout name=__default__dock name=__dock_1 floating=no width=-1 height=-1 floatx=0 floaty=0paned orientation=horizontal locked=no position=841paned orientation=vertical locked=no position=416item name=GtrMessageTable orientation=vertical locked=no/item name=GtrTranslationFields orientation=vertical locked=no//panedpaned orientation=vertical locked=no position=387item name=GtrTranslationMemoryUI orientation=vertical locked=no/item name=GtrContextPanel orientation=vertical locked=no//paned/paned/dock/layout/dock-layout Hopefuly there is some other way to avoid the issue, apart from manually deleting a file in .config :) signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#637189: libspice-server-dev depends on pixman-1 but it is not specified in dependencies
16.08.2011 11:50, Liang Guo wrote: Hi, Michael, On Wed, Aug 10, 2011 at 5:49 AM, Michael Tokarev m...@tls.msk.ru wrote: 09.08.2011 14:26, Michael Tokarev wrote: [] There are other dependencies too, like alsa openssl xrandr etc, but I haven't checked these. Which clashes with local (in another package using spice) file of the same name. So that qemu 0.15 does not build with spice 0.8.2 for example: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2011-08/msg00417.html http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2011-08/msg00617.html /mjt I've asked Kilian to sponsor my new spice 0.8.2-2, In this upload, libpixman-1-dev (= 0.17.7~) and libssl-dev is added to libspice-server-dev's Depends field. alsa and other unused x11 Requires are removed. And this is, actually, wrong. The original issue, incorrectly diagnosed by me in this bugreport, is that spice people use Requires: pkg-config variable to declare inter-library dependencies, while they should use Requires.private instead. It is the development files of libpixman, libssl etc are not needed to build applications against lispice-server, unless you want to have static build (in which case all inter-dependent libraries are also needed, and that's where Requires.private pkg-config variable comes into play). So the problem actually is the wrong pkg-config dependencies, not debian package dependencies, due to wrong upstream usage of pkg-config. So I went on and corrected the mess. Here's the difference: commit 805ace942c4ab731c231ff4497bf3093a8b8ce0e Author: Michael Tokarev m...@tls.msk.ru Date: Tue Aug 16 15:53:44 2011 +0400 move libspice-server interdependencies to Requires.private pkgconfig variable and remove extra dependencies for -dev package diff --git a/debian/changelog b/debian/changelog index 9aa49fe..ff8ca0b 100644 --- a/debian/changelog +++ b/debian/changelog @@ -1,7 +1,10 @@ spice (0.8.2-2) unstable; urgency=low - * Add libpixman-1-dev and libssl-dev to libspice-server1 -Depends (Closes: #637189) + [ Michael Tokarev ] + * move libraries used internally by libspice-server from Requires +to Requires.private in pkg-config file (Closes: #637189) + + [ Liang Guo ] * Remove alsa, xrandr, xfixes, x11, xext and xrender from spice-server.pc Requires * Fix typo in debian/spicec.1 diff --git a/debian/control b/debian/control index 93efec1..b95b784 100644 --- a/debian/control +++ b/debian/control @@ -49,7 +49,7 @@ Description: Implements the server side of the SPICE protocol Package: libspice-server-dev Section: libdevel Architecture: i386 amd64 -Depends: libspice-server1 (= ${binary:Version}), ${misc:Depends}, libpixman-1-dev (= 0.17.7~), libssl-dev +Depends: libspice-server1 (= ${binary:Version}), ${misc:Depends} Suggests: pkg-config Description: Header files and development documentation for spice-server The Simple Protocol for Independent Computing Environments (SPICE) is diff --git a/debian/patches/series b/debian/patches/series index 95650d5..252b3d0 100644 --- a/debian/patches/series +++ b/debian/patches/series @@ -1,3 +1,4 @@ fix-typo-in-record-cpp.patch fix-typo-in-cmd_line_parser-cpp.patch drop-unnecessary-build-request.patch +use-requires-private-for-libspice-pkgconfig.patch diff --git a/debian/patches/use-requires-private-for-libspice-pkgconfig.patch b/debian/patches/use-requires-private-for-libspice-pkgconfig.patch new file mode 100644 index 000..3d67550 --- /dev/null +++ b/debian/patches/use-requires-private-for-libspice-pkgconfig.patch @@ -0,0 +1,14 @@ +Use Requires.private pkg-config variable instead of Requires +for internal libspice-server libraries. + +--- spice.orig/spice-server.pc.in spice/spice-server.pc.in +@@ -7,7 +7,7 @@ + Description: SPICE server library + Version: @VERSION@ + +-Requires: @SPICE_REQUIRES@ ++Requires.private: @SPICE_REQUIRES@ + Libs: -L${libdir} -lspice-server + Libs.private: @SPICE_NONPKGCONFIG_LIBS@ + Cflags: -I${includedir}/spice-server I also pushed this change to collab-maint git tree, to a branch named mjt - you can use `git remote update' followed by 'git pull origin mjt' to fetch it directly using git if you like. To compile qemu/qemu-kvm with spice-support, please add libspice-server-dev (= 0.8.2-2), libspice-protocol-dev to build depends, and --enable-spice to configure option. That works, but introduces a ton of needlessly linked-to libraries, due to the reason described above. Actually, IMO, libspice-server-dev don't directly use libpixman-1-dev and libssl-dev, they should be removed too. No, they _are_ used internally by libspice-server - if you by a chance will want to link some application

Bug#638002: Improper seteuid() calls in src/log.c and src/masqmail.c
Package: masqmail Version: 0.2.21-4 Severity: critical Tags: security Justification: root security hole Reporting publicly since this has already been disclosed on the masqmail list. In src/log.c there are two logging functions that use this logic: uid_t saved_uid; saved_uid = seteuid(conf.mail_uid); write to a log file... seteuid(saved_uid); The first seteuid() call here isn't returning the previous EUID, it's returning 0 on success and -1 on failure. The net result should be that any time masqmail writes to the log, it's resetting the EUID to root. This would undo the effect of other code in masqmail that drops root privileges. The most recent upstream version of masqmail (0.3.2) contains identical code to the version I audited (Debian stable's version 0.2.27). Per information provided by the upstream author, src/masqmail.c contains additional code with the same type of flaw. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0.2 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#637613: base: Linux console can't display Korean when the system locale is Korean.
Hughe Chung wrote: When the user selects only Korean language from installer and install only standard system the console can't display Korean messages at all. This is very serious problem for Korean users. A solution would be, for languages which can't be displayed on the Linux console, to automatically make the default locale C.UTF-8 for console logins. More than that, the system locale should probably be set to C.UTF-8 too, for /var/log/ files to be readable on the Linux console. Basically xvfb-run tries to write a file to /var/lib/xkb/, which is a directory owned by root (and not thus not accessible to the normal user) so it fails. When this directory is made writeable to the user (for example 1777), the build succeed. xkb actually correctly tests that it can write to /var/lib/xkb, and fallbacks to /tmp if not. For that it uses : access(XKM_OUTPUT_DIR, W_OK | X_OK) == 0 (see http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/tree/xkb/ddxLoad.c#n149) When fakeroot is used, it simulates that this path is writeable, but later fails when trying to write the file. Bug#637975: iceape-browser: depends on iceape which conflicts with iceape-browser
On 2011-08-16 10:35 +0200, Sven Joachim wrote: It is true that both aptitude full-upgrade and apt-get dist-upgrade would work, but then iceape is in danger of getting autoremoved immediately. Another problem with the current approach is that apt will remove iceape-browser before installing iceape. Thus, if /usr/bin/iceape has been manually configured as preferred alternative for x-www-browser or mozilla, these settings will be lost. Bug#506992: Workaround for the *LibraryDepends.cmake issue
tags 506992 + patch tags 635300 + pending thanks Hi everyone, Yesterday I found some time to dive into the problem with full .so paths in VTK and ITK, which currently cause frequent FTBFSes because of more and more libraries moving down the directory hierarchy for multiarch. I suggest this workaround for the issue: In debian/rules, run sed -i -e s#/usr/lib/\(`dpkg-architecture -qDEB_HOST_MULTIARCH`/\)\?lib\([^;]*\)\.so#\2#g \ $(path_to_library_depends) after building. While I haven’t found a way to avoid getting the absolute paths in the first place, CMake does manage to find libraries in default locations. This isn’t pretty, but we can remove it again after all required libraries are “multiarched” – particularly when VTK and ITK undergo that transition themselves ;-) The other fixes I tried, namely removing *LibraryDepends.cmake altogether, and converting to another way to use CMake, sadly don’t work satisfactorily. The former breaks some builds, the latter is a lot of work and doesn’t fix the problem completely. This one should be a low-maintenance solution, and AFAICT it works out fine. I locally test-built ants, elastix, gdcm, ginkgocadx, gofigure2 and ifrit, all of which depend on libinsighttoolkit3-dev, libvtk5-dev or both (there are more, but my machine is slow). The fix for ITK is committed and ready to upload. For VTK, please try the attached patch. Here's the difference: Even with Requires.private you'll need the corresponding -dev packages in Depends, because pkg-config will look for them for --cflags, just not --libs. Bug#638053: php-sasl: Check for libsasl in the multiarch path
Package: php-sasl Version: 0.1.0-1 Severity: serious Tags: patch wheezy sid User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com Usertags: origin-ubuntu oneiric ubuntu-patch Hi Jack, libsasl in Ubuntu has recently been transitioned to be a multiarch library, and this transition has just been done in Debian as well (bug #637968). As a result, php-sasl will fail to find libsasl at build time, because the PHP build system bypasses autoconf's standard library detection in favor of its own filesystem inspection. The attached patch adjusts the php-sasl config.m4 to look in the multiarch directory in addition to /usr/lib. This is a hack, but it will allow php-sasl to be buildable again. We'll need to list all the rest in build-depends too, and update it every time upstream will pick something else as needlessly as it is now. In particular, currently it's libssl-dev (right version) -- provided we patched out various other X bits. With this particular user - qemu-kvm - it so happens that libssl-dev gets pulled too, unlike libpixmap, so there's no issue here. For other package that will try to use libspice, there will be yet another bug of the same nature but due to missing libssl-dev dependency. Thank you very much Simon and Sébastien for your help. I have built the amd64 version of the package in a clean Sid chroot with sbuild, and I indeed did not understand the compiler warnings. The problem should be solved now that I re-enabled Sebastian's patch, that I did not realise was not part from revision 721 in Upstream's Subversion repository. As you can see from the commit diff below (I keep the build logs in the same Git repository as the source package), the compiler warnings dissapeared as expected. http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/m2crypto.git;a=commitdiff;h=3a906d75c341b97ba5cc03af76d535173b07cc4b#patch2 I tested python-m2crypto version 0.21.1-1 on my local system, which is a mixture of Squeeze, Wheezy and Sid where libssl1.0.0 and libssl0.9.8 are installed. Given that the module was working well, as per successful use of the euca2ools programs that use it, and given that the regression tests were failing for lack of SSLv2 support, I thought that I successfully tested it against libssl1.0.0, the OpenSSL library the package was built on depends on. Have I misunderstood how dynamic libraries are used, or is it indeed a bug that a package depending on libssl1.0.0 seems to be using libssl0.9.8 when they are co-installed ? Bug#638068: [bisected] initramfs-tools generates unbootable initrd.img on IA-64 platform (Itanium)
Package: initramfs-tools Version: 0.99 Severity: grave As stated in this thread http://lists.debian.org/debian-ia64/2011/08/msg1.html, Debian Wheezy Testing cannot be booted at all on IA-64 (current linux-image-3.0.0-1-mckinley in Testing depends on initramfs-tools 0.99, so initramfs-tools cannot be downgraded to previously working 0.98.8). Hence severity set to grave. Last message displayed on console is: [ 17.146492] Freeing unused kernel memory: 1024kB freed Loading, please wait... And then, nothing. Regression has been bisected to commit 8f8299d9ba017d2a5af853a52be37ee50c89fac2 (mkinitramfs: copy over on build instead of using symlink tree) from maximilian attems, 2011-02-21 (initramfs-tools v0.99 development cycle). Comparison of last good and first bad generated initrd.img ramdisks show that: - good one has bin/busybox and bin/sh, bin/sh being a soft link on bin/busybox and size of bin/busybox matching size of system /bin/busybox (1320720 bytes) - bad one has no bin/busybox, only bin/sh (executable, not a link) but size (199144 bytes) doesn't match size of system /bin/busybox (1320720 bytes). Indeed, analyzing hook-functions and hooks/busybox source code, it's my understanding that bin/sh should be a copy of system /bin/busybox and thus should have the same size, right? I don't know where this 199144 bytes executable comes from. Applying patch proposed in bug #628374 (initramfs-tools: Recent changes to hooks break busybox in initrd) to revert changes on busybox hook doesn't help. Simply reverting commit 8f8299d9ba017d2a5af853a52be37ee50c89fac2 from initramfs-tools v0.99 source code doesn't help either as resulting initramfs-tools binaries generate initrd.img failing to boot system with kernel panic, probably because of post-8f8299d9ba017d2a5af853a52be37ee50c89fac2 commits. However, I eventually managed to put together a set of ten (!) upstream backports that builds cleanly, although it is possible that you may also need to get http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=633324 and http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=633244 fixed before it builds against a multiarched version of glib2.0.
