Bug#647992: chromium: unrecoverable Aw, Snap! on start up

2011-11-08 Thread Mattia Monga
Package: chromium
Version: 15.0.874.106~r107270-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Chromium starts with a Aw, Snap! page and it is stuck on that.

Using an empty user-data-dir doesn't help. I managed to get it working by using
the --single-process option. Since I get a

[5720:5735:3873153110:ERROR:proxy_service_factory.cc(66)] Cannot use V8 Proxy
resolver in single process mode.

I believe the problem is related to V8

Bug#647994: chromium: Aw, Snap! for everything after upgrade

2011-11-08 Thread Antti-Juhani Kaijanaho
Package: chromium
Version: 15.0.874.106~r107270-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After upgrading to this version, chromium displays the Aw, Snap! screen for
everything, including chrome:///settings.

If I downgrade to 14.0.835.202~r103287-1, everything works.

Bug#647690: bzr: FTBFS(kfreebsd): NotImplementedError: cannot determine number of cpus

 Arguably this is also a bug in Python, because it should be able to
 provide the CPU count on Debian GNU/kFreeBSD.

 Which package would that be? Please could you clone this bug and assign it?
The main Python package, which has the multiprocessing module in it -
its multiprocessing.cpu_count() function raises NotImplementedError on
Debian GNU/kFreeBSD.

I'll see about cloning the bug.

Cheers,

Bug#648011: linux-image-3.0.0-1-686-pae: snd-ca0106 alsa module broken, reportbug does not work on this package

2011-11-08 Thread Andreas Glaeser
Package:linux-image-3.0.0-1-686-pae
Version:3.0.0-3
Severity:   grave

This is a follow-up report to 647...@bugs.debian.org
My soundcard was moved to my testing-PC now in order to use it there, but
audacity-beta does not work on that standard 32 Bit PC either. I recorded about
45
minutes in 24 Bit mode and the result was a file with a length of about 6
minutes.
Recording in 16-bit mode did not work propoerly either. at the bottom of the
window is
displayed a wrong time-value for the diskspace remaining for recording.
I tried to run report bug on that machine, but it hung, when trying to query
'linux-2.6
(source)' bugs from the BTS, or possibly I was too impatient.
I tried to rebuild the kernel in the well-tested way, which even worked on
powerpc-smp
architecture, thoug that kernel hat a clear tendency to freeze. 3.0.0-2 from
unstable was
better. This does not matter now, because the mac´s mainboard broke recently,
so I am
taking a break in using this.
On the pentium IV-PC the process stopped with an error towards the end, when
some exotic
sound-driver was attempted to be loaded.
Attached to this report you receive the output of dmesg and other
hardware diagnostic information.
Recording audi with gnome-sound-recorder also failed by the way. This
application
reprorted a data-stream-processing error or the like after about 20 minutes.
Should I file this issue against audacity-beta and gnome-sound-recorder in
testing as
well ?

Bug#648015: chromium: fails to render any web page

2011-11-08 Thread Matthias Liertzer
Package: chromium
Version: 15.0.874.106~r107270-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

After upgrading to the latest version of chromium in unstable, the
browser can no longer be used easily as I get an Aw, Snap! on each
website I try to load. This occurs even for the start page of the
browser (i.e. favorites). Deleting .config/chromium doesn't help
either, so the problem seems to be directly related to the latest
version of chromium in unstable.

I really think that having the upgrades block daily cron jobs on a stable

get this solved asap.

Package: chromium
Version: 15.0.874.106~r107270-1
Severity: serious

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
The window opens, the borders, toolbars and tabbar look and work good. Howewer
the rendering area shows standard chromium dead folder error page without
any further data regardless if i try to open a webpage or some internal stuff
(settings, bookmarks, nerd stats). Plugins proboablu are nit loaded - no
icons show up. Wiping the configuration, didn't help.
There are no explicit error messages neither in windows nor the console.

This is neither the latest version (2.6.32-38 is it) nor is it
supported (use the non -xen variant).

 The bug sounds like it comes from the openvirtuozzo patch.

Which is not available in this package.

Bug#648026: Uses deprecated libgucharmap2-dev

2011-11-08 Thread Michael Biebl
Source: abiword
Version: 2.9.1-0.1
Severity: serious
User: pkg-gnome-maintain...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: oldlibs

Hi,

abiword build-depends on libgucharmap2-dev, which is no longer built
from the gucharmap source package since version 1:3.2.0-1

Looking through the sources of abiword, libgucharmap2-dev is not
actually used anymore and the build dependency can simply be dropped.

The attached patch does just that.

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#648029: xen-utils-common: /usr/lib/xen-common/bin/xen-toolstack (and thus /usr/sbin/xm) works with bash, but not dash

2011-11-08 Thread Lionel Elie Mamane
Package: xen-utils-common
Version: 4.1.2-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

(Grave because dash is the default /bin/sh)

With dash 0.5.5.1-7.4 as /bin/sh, /usr/sbin/xm enters an infinite loop
of reexcuting itself. When run with bash, it works correctly.

I traced that to /usr/lib/xen-common/bin/xen-toolstack; here's the
diff between /bin/sh -x /usr/sbin/xm and /bin/bash -x /usr/sbin/xm;
the output of /bin/bash -x /usr/sbin/xm has been post-processed to
remove spurious differences, such as multiple + at start of line
(that in bash show recursion/inclusion level), '[' vs [, etc.

 + [ -z  ]
 + check xm
 + [ xm = xm ]
-+ PATH=/usr/lib/xen-4.1/bin command -v xm
-+ cmd_xm=/usr/sbin/xm
++ PATH=/usr/lib/xen-4.1/bin
++ command -v xm
++ cmd_xm=/usr/lib/xen-4.1/bin/xm
 + check xl
 + [ xl = xm ]
 + [ xl = xl ]
-+ PATH=/usr/lib/xen-4.1/bin command -v xl
-+ cmd_xl=/usr/sbin/xl
-+ [ /usr/sbin/xm ]
-+ echo /usr/sbin/xm
-+ TOOLSTACK=/usr/sbin/xm
++ PATH=/usr/lib/xen-4.1/bin
++ command -v xl
++ cmd_xl=/usr/lib/xen-4.1/bin/xl
++ [ /usr/lib/xen-4.1/bin/xm ]
++ echo /usr/lib/xen-4.1/bin/xm
++ TOOLSTACK=/usr/lib/xen-4.1/bin/xm
 + RET=0
 + [ 0 -eq 0 ]
-+ basename /usr/sbin/xm
++ basename /usr/lib/xen-4.1/bin/xm
 + [ xm != xm ]
-+ exec /usr/sbin/xm
++ exec /usr/lib/xen-4.1/bin/xm

Plainly, the idiom PATH=FOO command -v bar does not work with
dash. This seems to work:

 local PATH_old
 PATH_old=${PATH}
 PATH=FOO
 command -v bar
 PATH=${PATH_old}

Or maybe more devious (but untested):

 local PATH
 PATH=FOO
 command -v bar

Bug#648032: No longer works since this morning's update

2011-11-08 Thread Wouter Verhelst
Package: chromium
Version: 15.0.874.106~r107270-1
Severity: grave

Hi,

Since this morning's update, starting chromium as 'chromium' or
'chromium-browser' does not as expected. Sometimes it just shows a blank
page; sometimes it shows the 'unhappy browser' blue screen. In both
cases, trying to browse to a webpage does not work.

I tried producing a backtrace, but it doesn't seem to be segfaulting or
anything; it just sits there, doing nothing.

Dear Maintainer,

After upgrading to the new version today, chromium doesn't display any
pages, just a Aw, snap! Something went wrong while displaying this
webpage. message everywhere (also internal pages like the addons). New
profile doesn't help, and confirmed on IRC to happen elsewhere.

Best regards,

Bug#648041: postgresql-9.1: After new installation /etc/postgres is empty - i.e. no config files

2011-11-08 Thread Rolf
Package: postgresql-9.1
Version: 9.1.1-3

Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
   A new installation of the package (on a fresh system) the directory
   /etc/postgres with the config files is empty. Unchecked correct paramaters
   are passed in /etc/init.d/postgresql

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   Scriptbased fresh installation on as SID/WHEEZY system after pruge and
   delete with rm -r /etc/postgres*
   * What was the outcome of this action?
   My scripts look for /etc/postscript/9.1/main/pg_hba but it could not be
found,
   because the directory and the files didn't exists
   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Dear Maintainer,

Since the last update of bzr-svn (I'm tracking Debian testing), my bzr
doesn't work at all any more. I.e. most commands just give me
a backtrace (see example below).
If I aptitude remove bzr-svn then bzr works again (tho not when trying to
access svn repositories, obviously).

Bug#646620: Any news on this bug?

2011-11-08 Thread Michael Vogt
On Tue, Nov 08, 2011 at 12:16:41PM +0100, Santiago Garcia Mantinan wrote:
 Do you need any other info to help solve this bug?

Sorry for the slow reply, I was traveling.

I am currently a bit lost what might cause this TBH.

I tried to reproduce this in a clean VM and have apache upgraded from from
2.2.16-6+squeeze3 to 2.2.16-6+squeeze4 (just like in your example), it
also upgaded libpam and openssl. This worked here, no defunct
process. However I ran it by hand, not from cron.daily.

I wonder if there is anything else missing to make this reproducable,
is there anything special on your apache setup or anything else that
might help me to reproduce the issue?

 I really think that having the upgrades block daily cron jobs on a stable
 machine is something that should not happen, thus I think we should try to
 get this solved asap.

Yes, this is definitely a critical bug in my book too, I just need
some more clues (or a way to reproduce) to figure out how to fix it :/

Cheers,
 Michael

Bug#645919: unattended-upgrades: Unattended-upgrade in progress during shutdown, sleeping for 5s

2011-11-08 Thread Michael Vogt
On Tue, Nov 01, 2011 at 01:04:54PM +0200, Teodor MICU wrote:
 2011/10/31 Michael Vogt m...@debian.org:
  I think I found the issue now and fixed it in trunk. The issue is that
  the init scripts are run on upgrade, but they really should only run
  on actual shutdown. Its a bit confusing why this is happening as the
  header of the init script says that it should not run in any runlevel
  and only stop in runlevel 0 6. So there might be a bug in the init
  system here as well. Which one do you use?

 I'm using the default init system in Debian: sysvinit + insserv.

Thanks for this info!

  With the fix there will be one more hang on upgrade because the old
  (and buggy) prerm is run that will try to stop
  unattended-upgrades. But from that point on it should be fixed.

 Can be fixed by a targetted fix on Debian 6.0 squeeze? Could this
 create a problem on manual dist-upgrade from Debian 6.0 to 7.0?

The version in squeeze is not affected by this bug, only
testing/unstable AFAICT. So people upgrading from there should be
fine. Its just unfortunate for people running it on testing/unstable
:/ I added some code now that will avoid the failure but given the way
maintainer scripts are called I don't think I can do anything about
the delay (the shutdown script will timeout after 10minutes
automatically). It will have to timeout, then the error can be ignored
by the updated script.

Cheers,
 Michael

Hi,

Today the upgrade from 0.72.3 to 0.73.1 got stuck like this:

(this goes on forever)

I guess the only option is to kill u-a and upgrade manually. Severity set to
'important' instead of 'grave' just because it might have to be specific to my
custom config for automatic reboot after u-a runs (if needed).

Thanks

Bug#648052: metacity segfaults after todays update to wheezy

2011-11-08 Thread Piotr Drozdek
Hello,

I just upgraded my Debian Testing AMD64 system, and I cannot confirm
this bug. Upgraded all 70 packages, 42 new, 5 deleted. After rebooting
my profile was been successfully loaded, but GNOME3 runs in fallback
mode (due to problem with graphic driver, it said - I will investigate
it later).
I suggest to you to revert system from backup, do safe-upgrade and wait
for responses/ideas in this bug report.

Regards,
Piotr Drozdek

Bug#614907: Is anyone maintaining (the ham radio tool) node?

2011-11-08 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Jaime Robles wrote:

 OK I have found your offer!Send the bugs to the package so the problem can
 be solved :-)

Well, not bugs, but patches. I imagine they would be something like this:

 1. rename node to ax25-node, and add a compatibility wrapper that
prints a message and calls ax25-node. Update inetd.conf to use the
new command name.

 2. add a NEWS.Debian for node, explaining that the command has been
renamed

 3. update the default ax25d.conf to use ax25-node instead of node

 4. ax25-tools.postinst: offer to update ax25d.conf to use the new command
name

 6. remove the 'node' compatibility wrapper

Part 1 might look like this:

Bug#646620: Any news on this bug?

2011-11-08 Thread Santiago Garcia Mantinan
 Sorry for the slow reply, I was traveling.

No problem, I just don't want this to get forgotten.

 I wonder if there is anything else missing to make this reproducable,
 is there anything special on your apache setup or anything else that
 might help me to reproduce the issue?

Well, I'm not aware of anything, they were different computers under
different environments, some had anacron, others just plain cron, some were
running directly against the repositories, others going through proxies, I
have tracked 3 or four machines with this problem wich were as you can see
in quite different environments, even different locations and Internet
providers.

On the apache specifics, some of them have quite some changes on virtualhost
configs, I mean, adding a few webs and things like that, but nothing serious,
a couple of them have libapache2-mod-php5 to run squirrelmail, but then
there is onother one which doesn't and is quite a plain default install just
to serve a couple of static files.

 Yes, this is definitely a critical bug in my book too, I just need
 some more clues (or a way to reproduce) to figure out how to fix it :/

Well I don't now how to help you here, I still have the machine in the
hanged status around if you need any other info from it and I can try to
send whatever you want from the other ones.

Regards...

I can't see anything obvious amiss with what you've attached. Informl
discussions with upstream (on the RT IRC channel) led to the suggestion
that you try

SetHandler modperl

instead of

SetHandler perl-script

in /etc/request-tracker3.8/apache2-modperl2.conf

and see whether the problem still exists there. Let us know if you do,

Bug#648074: activiz.net: FTBFS on autobuilders: GENERATE_DOXYGEN always ON

2011-11-08 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Source: activiz.net
Version: 5.6.1-1
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

Binary-only builds of activiz.net in minimal environments, such as
Debian's autobuilders, are failing, presumably because debian/rules
specifies -DGENERATE_DOXYGEN:BOOL=ON even though debian/control lists
doxygen only in Build-Depends-Indep.  Please address this discrepancy;
I'd suggest conditionalizing the setting:

ifeq  $(filter %-doc,$(shell dh_listpackages))
  CMAKE_FLAGS += -DGENERATE_DOXYGEN:BOOL=OFF
else
  CMAKE_FLAGS += -DGENERATE_DOXYGEN:BOOL=ON
endif

Thanks!

Bug#646620: unable to reproduce it

2011-11-08 Thread Santiago Garcia Mantinan
I have setup a virtualbox machine downgraded apache and then run the
upgrades with the normal cron daily launched from /etc/crontab without any
positive results, I'm thinking about downgrading one of the real machines
that got hanged and see if it happens with just the apache upgrade or if we
need to downgrade more stuff that could be playing some role here.

what do you think?

Regards...

Bug#647792: NMU for #648028 and #647792

2011-11-08 Thread Michael Biebl
tags 648028 + pending
tags 647792 + pending
thanks

Hi,

I've uploaded a NMU for
#647792 - Build-depends on obsolete libabiword-2.8-dev
#648028 - Uses deprecated libgucharmap2-dev

The changelog reads:

 pyabiword (0.8.0-8.1) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Non-maintainer upload.
   * Drop unused Build-Depends on libgucharmap2-dev. Closes: #648028
   * Build-Depend on libabiword-2.9-dev instead of libabiword-2.8-dev.
 Closes: #647792
   * Update configure.ac to check for abiword-2.9.
   * Use dh-autreconf to update the build system.

The complete debdiff is attached.

Please let me know if I should the delay the NMU further or cancel it
for other reasons.

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#648041: postgresql-9.1: After new installation /etc/postgres is empty - i.e. no config files

2011-11-08 Thread Christoph Berg
tags 648041 moreinfo
thanks

Hi Rolf,

sorry I cannot really follow you here. Can you rephrase that in a
longer text?

Re: Rolf 2011-11-08 2008143603.3736.85984.report...@testrechner.frogs.de
* What led up to the situation?
A new installation of the package (on a fresh system) the directory
/etc/postgres with the config files is empty. Unchecked correct paramaters
are passed in /etc/init.d/postgresql

What parameters? Passed where/how?

* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
  ineffective)?
Scriptbased fresh installation on as SID/WHEEZY system after pruge and
delete with rm -r /etc/postgres*

Did you just say you deleted the file?

* What was the outcome of this action?
My scripts look for /etc/postscript/9.1/main/pg_hba but it could not be
 found,
because the directory and the files didn't exists

It's /etc/postgresql, and pg_hba.conf.

* What outcome did you expect instead?

Hi,

I'm downgrading the bug's severity to important since its unreproducible
and the submitter can't be contacted to provide more information
(sending mail to the submitter's address begets delivery failed
permanently notices).

If anybody can provide more information, please feel free to reupgrade
the bug's severity; it may otherwise safely be closed in a months' time.

Kind regards,

Bug#648026: NMU -- Uses deprecated libgucharmap2-dev

2011-11-08 Thread Michael Biebl
tags 648026 + pending
thanks

Hi,

I've uploaded a fix for the RC bug #648026 which drops the unused build
dependency on libgucharmap2-dev to DELAYED/5 which is currently blocking
gucharmap from entering testing.

The changelog reads:

 abiword (2.9.1-0.2) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Non-maintainer upload.
   * Drop Build-Depends on obsolete libgucharmap2-dev. Closes: #648026

The full debdiff is attached.

Please let me know, if I should delay the NMU further or if it should be
cancelled for other reasons.

Regards,
Michael

Bug#648105: libheimdal-dev does not satisfy dependencies of cups-config --libs

2011-11-08 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: libcups2-dev
Version: 1.5.0-10
Severity: serious

Hi,

libcups2-dev does not provide pkg-config .pc file to get the linker and
build flags, but instead ships a tool called cups-config.

gtk+3 uses
cups-config --cflags and cups-config --libs
in its configure script.
cups-config --libs outputs:

-lcups -L/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu -g -O2 -fstack-protector
--param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -Wformat -Wformat-security
-Werror=format-security -Wall -I/usr/include/dbus-1.0
-I/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/dbus-1.0/include -DDBUS_API_SUBJECT_TO_CHANGE
-lgssapi_krb5 -lkrb5 -lk5crypto -lcom_err -lgnutls -L/lib/i386-linux-gnu
-lgcrypt -lz -lpthread -lm -lcrypt

While I think it's kinda strange that --libs exports stuff like -Wall
and -I include paths (and --cflags is empty!), the real problem is, that
the above linker commands can not be satisfied by libheimdal-dev and
libcups2-dev depends on libkrb5-dev | libheimdal-dev.

This lead to the exp. buildds picking up libheimdal-dev and a failing
build, as one can see at [1].

Cheers,
Michael

   Note this line is:

   which actually does:
 setbuf(stdout, 0);

   So the top frames are in the libc. That suggests a serious problem with
   the libc.

  The problem is caused by the following code (genops.c:575):

 fp-_IO_write_base = fp-_IO_write_ptr = fp-_IO_write_end = 0;

  Translated by the compiler into:

  0xf7d57714 +148:   clr  [ %i0 + 0x18 ]
  0xf7d57718 +152:   clrx  [ %i0 + 0x10 ]

  In other words by a 32-bit access and a 64-bit access. The compiler is
  allowed on sparc, as malloc is guaranteed to return 8-byte memory.

  The thing I still don't understand here, is why fp = stdout = 0xf7e57114
  is not aligned. fopen() is using malloc() internally, so the resulting
  pointer should be aligned. Does iceweasel play with the alignment in a
  bad way there?

 I don't expect it to, especially with stdout, and especially during
 startup (the crash is in the very startup, not a lot of iceweasel is
 initialized). And stdout is a symbol exported from libc.so.6.

FYI, I found that it is triggered by the _IO_stdin_used symbol not being
exported from the binary, which happened because of a version-script
couple with -rdynamic. I still think there is something fishy going on
on the libc6 side, but not as bad as originally thought.

Mike

Bug#648121: SeaView fails to build with hardening options.

2011-11-08 Thread Charles Plessy
[Cced the public bug report.]

Dear Manolo,

Debian has switched by default some compiler options to “harden” the programs
it distributes. In my understanding, the goal is to reduce potential security
breaches like buffer overflows etc.

  http://wiki.debian.org/Hardening

Unfortunately, this makes SeaView fail with the following error:

g++ -c -g -O2 -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -Wformat
-Wformat-security -Werror=format-security -Wall -DUSE_XFT
-I/usr/include/freetype2 -DFLTK1 -Dunix -Icsrc -I. -DNO_PDF -Wl,--as-needed

xfmatpt.cxx:411:14: error: format not a string literal and no format arguments
[-Werror=format-security]
xfmatpt.cxx: In member function 'virtual void matpt_panel::draw()':
xfmatpt.cxx:646:21: error: format not a string literal and no format arguments
[-Werror=format-security]
cc1plus: some warnings being treated as errors

You can see the full build log at the following URL:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=5;filename=seaview_4.3.0-1_amd64.build.gz;att=1;bug=648121

Do you think it would be easy for you to update SeaView in order to solve these
errors ?

Have a nice day,

Bug#648121: SeaView fails to build with hardening options.

2011-11-08 Thread Andreas Tille
Hi,

just find a patch for the problem described below in our packaging SVN

svn://svn.debian.org/svn/debian-med/trunk/packages/seaview/trunk/debian/patches

As an unrelated remark: It would be really cool if you would ask the
Phylip authors to provide those two files you are using in seaview under
a GPL compatible. I was negotiating with them several times about using
a free license but failed. However, it might be feasible for them to
make exceptions for parts of the code like those few files you are using.

Kind regards

  Andreas.

 Dear Manolo,

 Debian has switched by default some compiler options to “harden” the programs
 it distributes. In my understanding, the goal is to reduce potential security
 breaches like buffer overflows etc.

   http://wiki.debian.org/Hardening

 Unfortunately, this makes SeaView fail with the following error:

 g++ -c -g -O2 -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -Wformat
 -Wformat-security -Werror=format-security -Wall -DUSE_XFT
 -I/usr/include/freetype2 -DFLTK1 -Dunix -Icsrc -I. -DNO_PDF -Wl,--as-needed
 -DDEFAULT_HELPFILE=\/usr/share/doc/seaview/seaview.html\
 -DPHYMLNAME=\phyml\ xfmatpt.cxx
 xfmatpt.cxx: In function 'void err_message(const char*)':
 xfmatpt.cxx:411:14: error: format not a string literal and no format
 arguments [-Werror=format-security]
 xfmatpt.cxx: In member function 'virtual void matpt_panel::draw()':
 xfmatpt.cxx:646:21: error: format not a string literal and no format
 arguments [-Werror=format-security]
 cc1plus: some warnings being treated as errors

 You can see the full build log at the following URL:

 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=5;filename=seaview_4.3.0-1_amd64.build.gz;att=1;bug=648121

 Do you think it would be easy for you to update SeaView in order to solve
 these
 errors ?

 Have a nice day,

Hi,

I uploaded libpng 1.5 to experimental.
libpng maintainers plan to transition from libpng 1.2 to 1.5.
I am checking build it the package depend to libpng.

I noticed your package FTBFS by libpng 1.5. I attached build log.
Could you check your package ?

Best regards,
