Bug#662748: highlight: fails to install, remove, distupgrade, and install again - prompting due to modified conffiles which where not modified by the user
Package: highlight Version: 3.7-2 Severity: serious User: debian...@lists.debian.org Usertags: piuparts Hi, during a test with piuparts I noticed your package failed the piuparts upgrade test because dpkg detected a conffile as being modified and then prompted the user for an action. As there is no user input, this fails. But this is not the real problem, the real problem is that this prompt shows up in the first place, as there was nobody modifying this conffile at all, the package has just been installed and upgraded... During a test with piuparts I noticed your package failed to install (in 'squeeze'), remove (but not purge), distupgrade to 'wheezy', and install again. Before the second installation the package is in config-files-remaining state. The configuration is remaining from the last version that was successfully configured - which is from the previous release. This is a violation of policy 10.7.3, see http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html#s10.7.3, which says "[These scripts handling conffiles] must not ask unnecessary questions (particularly during upgrades), and must otherwise be good citizens." http://wiki.debian.org/DpkgConffileHandling should help with figuring out how to do this properly. In http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2009/08/msg00675.html and followups it has been agreed that these bugs are to be filed with severity serious. Well, that's what I meant with local configuration. The default is suspend-on-lid-close, and in this case the screen locks correctly. This information is completely missing from your initial bug report. It was not clear to me, that you had a custom configuration. (and I think in this case #626544 shouldn't have been merged) So, what you want is lock-on-blank, basically. -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth? signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#662200: libcvc3-5-jni and libcvc3-2-jni: error when trying to install together
I've uploaded a new package to mentors that addresses this and #662198. I decided to add a Replaces/Breaks on libcvc3-2-jni, since the file /usr/lib/jni/libcvc3jni.so appears to be necessary for the binary package to function. -Chris On Mon, Mar 5, 2012 at 11:08 AM, Christopher L Conway < christopherleecon...@gmail.com> wrote: > On Mon, Mar 5, 2012 at 3:08 AM, Ralf Treinen wrote: > >> Hello, >> >> On Sun, Mar 04, 2012 at 01:22:19PM -0500, Christopher L Conway wrote: >> >Not sure how to handle this. Bug#662628: Workaround.
A workaround may be possible. I had similar problems with this package and found that if I change the Video Output to "X11 video output (XCB)" from "Default" VLC will play videos. The problem for me was that the package was defaulting to "XVideo output (XCB)" which was not found. Trying to play videos would then would peg my processor resulting in having to Kill the process. I'm not sure what changed in the package upgrade to cause this problem though. Good Luck! Bug#655970: Bug# 655970 - cman | corosync
Hi Nicolas, As a corosync/pacemaker user, I would like to see the dependency of "cman | corosync" remain. I would not like the package to return to a just cman dependency. Maybe for the test "[ ! -f /etc/cluster/cluster.conf ]", if using corosync it could test for "/etc/corosync/corosync.conf". And maybe "cman_tool status" could test for "/etc/init.d/corosync status". I still observe this problem. I set GNOME to blank the screen on lid close (/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/power/lid-close-ac-action=blank and /org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/power/lid-close-battery-action=blank), and I confirmed that the screensaver configuration says to lock immediately (/org/gnome/desktop/screensaver/lock-enabled=true and /org/gnome/desktop/screensaver/lock-delay=0). Bug#579028: pbuilder: installs untrusted packages without asking
Package: pbuilder Version: 0.206 Tags: patch Followup-For: Bug #579028 -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 Dear Maintainer, The attached patch changes the defaults to always enforce signed repositories and aborts if an untrusted/manipulated package is installed. It adds the new option --keyring (APTKEYRINGS) to add additional keyrings, which are then used to verify the (local) signed repositories. This way no untrusted packages can be installed. To still allow untrusted/unsigned repositories - they are a very bad idea and allow remote attackers performing a MITM to take over the system, including all built packages - the new option - --allow-untrusted (ALLOWUNTRUSTED) was added. I tested it with the official Debian repository, signed and unsigned local repositories and it works fine for me. But I'm only a "normal" pbuilder user, so I might have missed something. Please test the patch. I haven't tested it with cdebootstrap, but it should work as well. The old PBUILDERSATISFYDEPENDSOPT --check-key option was deprecated and is no longer used (it emits a warning now) as validation is the default now. The patch also contains documentation updates for the new options/variables and updates for the NEWS file describing the necessary changes to continue using untrusted packages (but please don't do that - especially as a Debian developer). Please have a look and include the patch as soon as possible to fix this security issue. Bug#662091: help
Samuel, I am sorry you had issues with w3c-sgml-lib. I put the package together because what went before (w3c-dtd-xhtml) could not be kept up with the w3C which I saw as the upstream. Some things I did in the package wee an attempt at backwards compatibility. However I am now busy with quite a few other things and I reckon you know how this stuff works better than I do. So I would really appreciate it if you were able to offer a patch. -- Nicholas Bamber | http://www.periapt.co.uk/ PGP key 3BFFE73C from pgp.mit.edu -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". The package works only properly (i.e. finds the fonts it installed) if between unpacking and configuring wims some other tex package was configured and called mktexlsr. The small patch attached to this bug fixes this by moving the mktexlsr call in postinst before the other latex commands that use the fonts. This should be fixed in squeeze, too. Bug#301239: mii-diag: should not be released in Wheezy without gigabit ethernet support (#301239)

Considering what Ben said (I didn't knew there are network > cards not supportied by ethtool, and maintained the package mostly for > the lazy like me, who don't want to learn a new thing), I wasn't aware of this too. This seems to be the missing argument that lead to our, from my current point of view, wrong agreement about mii-diag being not in a releasable state. > I'd like to propose the following solution: > > What about adding a hint to README.Debian and the package description, > pointing out, that it is a legacy package for older network cards, > pointing to ethtool for newer hardware, and adding a suggest:ethtool > to the package. When elvm broke my system by just installing it to be able to read the included documentation, I looked if there is a README.Debian explaining why it did so, but in general I do not read the README.Debian of random tools I use - so I'm not convinced that this reaches many users. But additionally to mentioning it in the package description (which is a great idea and IMHO justifies the additional work of the translation teams to update the package description's translations), adding a note to README.Debian seems to be sane. The main argument for adding this to the package description is that users should be aware of this issue before they install the package, but to be able to read README.Debian they need to install the package first. You could also add a short note "See /usr/share/doc/mii-diag/README.Debian for an explanation why mii-diag does not correctly detect Gigabit Ethernet or better." to the man page. Obviously just adding documentation does not fix the bug (completely) and after being aware of the things Ben explained, we seem to agree that this bug is not release critical. Maybe you, as maintainer, could adapt the severity? Carsten -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Hopefully those days will be over soon: apt 0.8.16 (in experimental) has an option to disable signature checking for specific sources.list entries. This way you can have an (unsigned) local repository, but signatures for any repository accessed via network will still be checked. See #596498 for more details. You still need an option to disable signature checking when working with older versions of apt, but it should be enabled by default.
