Dear Maintainer,

I tried to start a newly updated calibre and got this:

python-mechanize was 0.1.11-1.1. An update to python-mechanize 1:0.2.5-2 solved
the problem.

The calibre dependencies contained no mininum version for python-mechanize so
this was not automatically prevented.

Package: policykit-1
Version: 0.104-2
Severity: serious
Tags: d-i

In d-i, it is very easy to set up a system without entering a root
password. d-i sets up sudo, and configures gksu to use it
(by changing an alternative).

On such a system, I was prompted by policykit for the (nonexistant) root
password when network-manager wanted to authenticate me in order to
associate to a wireless network. I assume policykit prompts for the root
password for other things too.

If there is some setting we can make in d-i to new installs to make
policykit use sudo, please let me know, and I will make it. It wouldn't
solve the problem when upgrading existing installs that use sudo, but
it'd be better than nothing.

OK, the first two look like bugs that will be easier to understand with
a diff (maybe a build-dep that was broken was fixed in the meantime?).
For the third one, I'm a bit more puzzled.

Note that I auto-retry builds before filing, so when I file a bug, it
means that the build failed twice in a row. This does not exclude chroot
configuration issues, or environment issues, but at least excludes all
random/cosmic rays problems.

The only reason I added it was, the scripts provided in melange are
from the same source package as python-melange, and that they might at
least require the version from the same source package to run
correctly.

Bug#685952: ruby-gherkin: does not build on several achitecture, blocking newer cucumber

I requested the installation of the build deps for ruby-gherkin in a
armhf porterbox to be able to investigate. This far into the freeze,
it's very unlikely that we will get this newer ruby-gherkin and the
newer cucumber into wheezy, though.

2012-08-26 Thread Asheesh Laroia

Thanks for this bug report!

I can confirm the issue, and I believe this is very important. Upstream
has a patch that fixes it, but we should try to get the updated version
into the upcoming release of Debian.

I will work on that. Thank you again for the report.

Mm, the only machine I could reproduce this is from the same family, if not
even exactly the same one. The strange part is that I could not reproduce it
anymore :-/

No, sorry about that, those were #684833, #684837 and #684860. Cédric
already looked at the last one with the same result than me, and should
investigate again soon.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try to have a second look at the first two,

Bug#672140: Processed: Re: [Pkg-utopia-maintainers] Bug#672140: prompts for root passwords on a sudo-only system

2012-08-26 Thread Denis Laxalde

Christian PERRIER a écrit :

Reassigning to the right D-I component.

However, in user-setup-apply:

 if [ -e $ROOT/etc/sudoers ]; then
 # Test if we can add the user to the sudo group
 # (possible if sudo>= 1.7.2-2 is installed on the
target system)
 # If we can, do it this way, otherwise add the user to

2>&1; then
 echo "$USER ALL=(ALL) ALL">> $ROOT/etc/sudoers
 fi
 else
 # sudo failed to install, system won't be usable
 exit 1
 fi

In short, according to this code, this is already implemented, as of
user-setup 1.34, assuming the sudo group exists at the time this is
done. Adding the sudo user to sudoers is only a fallback.

I just installed a fresh wheezy system without a root account and the
first user is indeed in the sudo group. And network-manager does not ask
for the root password to setup a wireless connection. So I'd say that
there's no bug after all...

As pointed out elsewhere, that was a different bug. And I was not
aware of this bug at that time.

It's completely sensible for webservers that do not interpret php
scripts themselves, to serve *.php files as application/x-php or
text/x-php. At least it is more consistent with the handling of
python, perl, etc.

But if you don't want to do that, e.g. because you intend to remove
the perl/java/... types, too, adding them to Apache's config is IMHO
completely acceptable, too. The mod_negotiation problem is after all
an Apache only problem.

Bug#684736: melange: diff for NMU version 1:2012.1-2.1

2012-08-26 Thread Ola Lundqvist

Hi Salvatore

Thanks for this mail. Sorry for not actually attaching the diff.
It is now attached.

As you can see I did not put any (>= ${source:Version}) as I do not
see any reason why it should be there. It just makes life harder
for apt and dpkg when resolving stuff. :-)

Or do you know of any specific reason why it should be there?

Best regards,

Bug#670945: About the media types text/x-php and text/x-php-source

Hey Charles, Ondřej, et all.

Hey Charles that was just my way to express that I agree, that it's
better if we don't mess around with such larger goals now in wheezy.

:)

On Sat, 2012-08-25 at 08:42 +0200, Ondřej Surý wrote:
> * The fix for first bug #674089 (e.g. with impact on PHP CGI) is still

Ok, AFAIU that one is fixed by now, as we put info into PHP's NEWS file,
the release notes, and as we even have no the Apache config file for PHP
CGI.

> * The fix for second bug #670945 (e.g. http://localhost/file not
> caught by mod_negotiation) was fixed in mime-support 3.52-1.1.
I personally do possibly not quite understand the current state here:
AFAIU, the user used HTTP negotiation to get file.php when file was
requested, right?

1) As I wrote in some mail before, I personally would drop that this
works out of the box.
Why?
It seems to be a abuse of what negotiation is intended for, and this is
definitely not to get "tidy" addresses (i.e. without .php).
If people want the later, mod_rewrite is their friend.
HTTP negotiation is intended that the browsers can set preferences in
the HTTP headers, and content is chosen based on that.
But in the above case, the content is not "PHP",... the PHP generates
(e.g.) HTML,... and THAT is the content that the browser will see.
Also, no browser sends per default a preference on a x-php type.

The whole scenario would only make sense if there was e.g.
file.js
file.php
and the intention was to give browsers the choice what should happen,
when just "file" is accessed... server-side interpretation of PHP, or
client-site JavaScript.

I've never seen anyone using that.
So honestly, I'd simply drop support for that, and add perhaps a note to
NEWS.

Or is there some other non-abusive way of HTTP-negotiation in the whole
scenario reported by the bug, I haven't seen?

What now if my proposal ("drop that this works out of the box") is too
late for wheezy (i.e. maybe there are really packages in Debian who use
it that way - which would be really really bad):

2) EITHER: We add a new mime-type as Ondrej suggested.
Side-effects? Does this perhaps re-introduce the foo.php.jpeg issue? No
I don't think so; Ondrey uses and then he uses handlers
(SetHandler so not even MimeTypes)... and even if he'd use MIME
types... he uses the special ones "application/x-httpd-*"...
So a new entry for php files in /etc/mime.types introduces likely no new
security issues.

Should we do it?
I agree here with Charles, when adding new x-* types we should try to be
as conservative as possible, because x-* types were always intended to
be used within "organisational boundaries" only (so e.g. just within the
authority of a company).

I agree with Ondrej, that we should however not decide, based on what
other distros to (of course we can look at it, whether it's reasonable).

OR: We add even the definitions to PHP's Apache config files.
Problem: This affects only Apache... OTOH; did the other webservers
use /etc/mime.types ?

Concluding I tend to the following (in decreasing order):
1) Drop (out-of-the-box) support for what's asked in #670945 comment 1.
It's abusive and an easy start for people to shoot themselves into their
feet (security wise).
Add notes to NEWS and perhaps release notes on how to work around.

If not possible:
2) Add the MIME-Types definitions to PHP, if only Apache used this ever.
Why? Eventually we should definitely do (1), and add these types (at
least for what's asked in #670945 comment 1) only as a workaround for
now.
So if we drop them anyway, there's no need to add them to mime-support,
where they're used at an unnecessarily broader ranger.

If other web-servers used that, too:
3) Put it for now (!) in mime-types.

I think it would be ok to do (1) even in wheezy.
Why? Eventually the clean solution would be anyway to drop what's asked
in #670945 comment 1.
Users will then have to read NEWS/release notes and clean up their
setups.
Whether this happens now, or in jessie is IMHO irrelevant.

Cheers,
Chris.

Hi,

By default, sbuild ignores alternative build-dependencies (a | b) and
only uses the first package. that is to ensure reproducible builds, and
avoid situations where packages build against different b-deps on
different architectures. So the bug is valid, and should be fixed in
wheezy (and I'm not aware of the release team considering those failures
non-RC).

Did you Cc me? I have very little time for Debian recently, but try to
keep up with bugmail where I'm Cced.

Anyway, a good way to make progress is usually to provide a build log,
and a diff between my log and your log.

Lucas

Hi,

I believe it's best to use (= {source:Version}) in this case.

If you intend to fix some Openstack stuff, please join the Alioth
project and work with us on Git. Otherwise, it's a mess. Please do not
NMU if the fix isn't in the Git (or at the very least, provide a "git
format-patch" so we can apply it), thanks!

Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for sslh (versioned as 1.13b-3.2) and uploaded it
to DELAYED/0 (because my previous NMU triggered it, thus it's just a
“cleaning my own mess” upload). It fixes the issue by restoring one of
your old patches, I'll update your Git repository with the tags after
this message, and will take care of the unblock request.

Regards

David

Bug#680404: fails to build comedilib documentation on mips (java.lang.IllegalArgumentException)

0.10.0-3 succeeded later:
https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=comedilib&arch=mips&ver=0.10.0-3&stamp=1341603610

(or https://buildd.debian.org/status/logs.php?pkg=comedilib&arch=mips
for an overview).

Ah, it uses a different pdf backend:
http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/c/comedilib/current/changelog#version0.10.0-3

Cheers,

Bug#682608: Fix

2012-08-26 Thread chuck adams
Using the suggested comment that /etc/network/interfaces needed lines
commented out, I went to a working system and compared the interfaces
file.

In the installation using the wireless interface the interfaces
file contained a serious security violation as shown here:

# The primary network interface
allow-hotplug wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-ssid NETGEAR
wpa-psk wittyflower875

In that the file contains, in plain ASCII text,
the ssid and password for the network and the file
is viewable by all users.

I commented out the lines and added

allow-hotplug eth0

which I don't know is absolutely necessary.

A reboot of the system does bring up the WiFi
interface without any difficulty that I can see
at the present time.

Please include a note as to when changes will be made.
I am aperiodically downloading netinst from the daily-build
and installing the system from scratch.

Another bug found. When plugging in a USB thumb memory drive,
it is not recognized and mounted. This bug may have already
been reported. I discovered it when I was thinking of writing
both installs (with and without using wlan0) and doing a
diff -r ( :-) ) to compare the file systems and the exact
files that were configured differently. So many bugs and so
little time.

thanks and I hope this helps,

chuck adams

Package: python-pastedeploy
Version: 1.5.0-2
Severity: serious

Dear Maintainer,

Installing python-pastedeploy does not yield a working paste.deploy package:

% python
Python 2.7.3 (default, Jul 13 2012, 17:48:29) [GCC 4.7.1] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import paste.deploy
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "", line 1, in
ImportError: No module named paste.deploy
>>>

This breaks the swift-account, swift-container and swift-object packages
which all depend on python-pastedeploy and expect
"from paste.deploy import loadapp, appconfig" to work.

Installing python-paste remedies this situation.

Thanks,
  Christian

Bug#685524: After upgrading to 4:4.8.2+dfsg-1 kwin segfaults on startup

2012-08-26 Thread Stefan Lippers-Hollmann
Hi

I can also reproduce the kwin segfaults in a live environment under
kvm, using xserver-xorg-video-modesetting and kernel 3.5/ 3.6~,
interestingly the problems disappear if I bump up kvm's system RAM
to ~3 GB or more (it reliably fails up to and including 2.5 GB).

With Fix-JIT-crash-on-x86-64-avoid-32-bit-branch-offset-o.patch
removed, I can drop system RAM down to 768 MB (or maybe lower) without
observing any segfaults, so that patch definately causes this trouble.

Regards
Stefan Lippers-Hollmann

Bug#685865: [debian-mysql] Bug#685865: mysql-server-5.5: Upgarding STILL..!! doesn't work, init script can't start/stop server...

2012-08-26 Thread Nicholas Bamber

thanks

Some questions that occur are:

1.) What version are you upgrading from?
2.) Have you tried using apt rather than synaptic? (So yes I better have
a play with synaptic but I cannot just now).
3.) Can you try breaking down the process so we can pinpoint more
exactly where the issue is. Remove the reverse dependency packages for a
start, stopping the server manually and so on.

4.) I assume you can start/stop the server normally?
5.) Looking at the attached files it seems that you are upgrading from a
version where innodb is a plugin and that the errors appear to be in
that area, to one where it is built in. Any relevant information would
appreciated.
6.) The phrase "STILL..!!" seems to imply something. However I am
missing that implication. Please elaborate.

Bug#685865: Upgarding STILL..!! doesn't work, init script can't start/stop server...

2012-08-26 Thread André Verwijs
(reply from Nicholas Bamber )

1.) What version are you upgrading from?

from 5.5.24+dfsg-6 to 5.5.24+dfsg-7 on Wheezy mirrors.
Using mysql-workbench as gui.

2.) Have you tried using apt rather than synaptic? (So yes I better have a
play with synaptic but I cannot just now).

I have used Synaptic and "gpk-application" (install/remove packages) i
think both install package the same way...

3.) Can you try breaking down the process so we can pinpoint more exactly
where the issue is.
Remove the reverse dependency packages for a start, stopping the server
manually and so on.

I have update-notifier package installed, so i'm getting a message when
a newer version is available
fist the packages an dependencies are being downloaded and then
installed. At the point where mysql-server
needs to be restarted, it fails... the /etc/init.d/mysql script can't
start/stop the server, so upgrade fails

maybe i need to add myself to sudoers file?

4.) I assume you can start/stop the server normally?

as root yes, when mysql-server installed for first time, all works
fine...

5.) Looking at the attached files it seems that you are upgrading from a
version where innodb is a plugin and that the
errors appear to be in that area, to one where it is built in. Any
relevant information would appreciated.

by default mysql uses InnoDB, much safer than MyISAM. I found
information about mysql in /var/log/syslog(.log)
this is on startup. (see "syslog-mysql.txt") also added my.cnf
configuration file.

6.) The phrase "STILL..!!" seems to imply something. However I am missing
that implication. Please elaborate.

the problem is there from from 5.5.24+dfsg-4 and up...

Hi Moritz!

The version currently in stable (0.3) is not affected by either of the
bugs (I was unable to reproduce them). The version in testing is
affected by the later bug but not by the first. I am doing an upload
about it shortly.

all fixed versions will be cleared, and you may need to re-add them.

If the package is supposed to work only with ruby1.8, the attached
patch seems to achieve this.

Not sure if this is the correct way to go; input from ruby experts
welcome.

Hi,

The addition of egg-info file to python-greenlet still affects
python-eventlet . As the former bugfix do not migrate to Wheezy due to
an other RC bug in python-greenlet .

I plan to NMU[1] this to wheezy-proposed-updates.

Bug#685324: Local File Inclusion Vulnerability in contrib script

2012-08-26 Thread Jonathan Wiltshire
Package: php-geshi

Dear maintainer,

Recently you fixed one or more security problems and as a result you closed
this bug. These problems were not serious enough for a Debian Security
Advisory, so they are now on my radar for fixing in the following suites
through point releases:

squeeze (6.0.6) - use target "stable"

Please prepare a minimal-changes upload targetting each of these suites,
and submit a debdiff to the Release Team [0] for consideration. They will
offer additional guidance or instruct you to upload your package.

I will happily assist you at any stage if the patch is straightforward and
you need help. Please keep me in CC at all times so I can
track [1] the progress of this request.

For details of this process and the rationale, please see the original
announcement [2] and my blog post [3].

The source package includes libraries for Win32 in binary form only in
src/windows/*; some of those are released under the LGPL (OpenAL).
Please either include the source or remove the binary-only libraries
from the source package (in this case you might also want to remove the
CVS directories).

Package: docbook
Version: 4.5-5.1
Severity: important

I know there were some changes made lately about how SGML catalog
registration works, but the result for me is that the catalog
registration for /etc/sgml/docbook.cat has disappeared from
/etc/sgml/catalog, and all my stuff relying on that is now failing to
build. I added back

CATALOG /etc/sgml/docbook.cat

and now it works again.

For reference, here is the rest of /etc/sgml/catalog:

--
## This file is created by update-catalog with update-super.
## Please see update-catalog(8) for how to modify this file.
--
CATALOG /etc/sgml/docutils-common.cat
CATALOG /etc/sgml/xml-core.cat
CATALOG /etc/sgml/debiandoc-sgml.cat
CATALOG /etc/sgml/docbook-dsssl.cat
CATALOG /etc/sgml/openjade1.3.cat
CATALOG /etc/sgml/jade.cat
CATALOG /etc/sgml/openjade.cat
CATALOG /etc/sgml/metacity-common.cat
CATALOG /etc/sgml/docbook-xml.cat
CATALOG /etc/sgml/sgml-data.cat
CATALOG /etc/sgml/docbook.cat -- added by me --

I also tried purging and reinstalling the docbook package, but that
didn't help.

Package: mutter-common
Version: 3.4.1-3
Severity: serious
Justification: breaks unrelated software

Hi,

po4a or any other program that calls nsgmls fails with:
 nsgmls:/etc/sgml/mutter-common.cat:8:8:E: cannot open
"/usr/share/sgml/mutter-common/catalog" (No such file or directory)

I can see in the changelog for 3.4.1-2 that removal of
mutter-common.catalog file was intentional but
/etc/sgml/mutter-common.cat still referes to it.

Regards,
robert

The bug is real: fallback-build-dependencies are unofficial, and the
purpose of it here is only to ease backporting, not for official use.

Bug#685896: dovecot-core: Overwrites SSL certificate without warning

2012-08-26 Thread Steve Kowalik
Package: dovecot-core
Version: 1:2.1.7-1
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

The dovecot-core postinst makes serious assumptions about the state of
SSL certificates on a users machine. If a user has both the certificate
and the private key in one file called /etc/ssl/certs/dovecot.pem, the
postinst will not hesitate to overwrite them because
/etc/ssl/private/dovecot.pem does not exist. Surely the postinst should
check if either file exists not both?
