Bug#538822: dash and sh diversions: wouldn't it be nice to fix 538822 and 540512?
Quoting Paul Gevers (elb...@debian.org): Hi all involved, [This is a ping]. Reading through RC bug 538822 and 540512 (which were already RC during Squeeze release in 2010) I have the feeling that it is known how these bug could be fixed and changes are available in the git repository. Shouldn't we discuss this with the release team and see if we can upload the latest changes? I tried to review them, but this is to complicated for me. If we can not get this fixed for Wheezy, do we (again) need release-notes to note the fact? Or just use the Pre-Depends as mentioned in bug 538822? Willing to help, if I can. IMHO (not involved in any of these packages), now is bad time to fix these bugs: too late in the release process. What's needed is someone taking care of them as soon as possible after the release of wheezy. Such important and hairy issues should be dealt with at the beginning of a release cycle and not when we're polishing things for a release. My 2 cents, only. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Christian PERRIER wrote: IMHO (not involved in any of these packages), now is bad time to fix these bugs: too late in the release process. Yes, I think we should try to fix the diversion mess in experimental, ignoring the release cycle, and wait for wheezy+1 or later before including the changes in sid. Sorry I dropped the ball on this. Help testing and tweaking the patches is always welcome. On the plus side, this means we have time to make the appropriate debootstrap improvements to get this working cleanly and well. Bug#691847: procps: ps ax crashes, random badness if libprocps0 not upgraded too
Package: procps Version: 1:3.3.4-1 Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system The library in procps 3.3.4 snuck through an API change but the sonames were not updated. This means if you upgrade procps to 3.3.4 but use a 3.3.3 libproc then ps ax amongst other things breaks. /etc/rcS.d/S02udev uses ps (incorrectly but that's not relevant here) and assumes udev dies so no lvm mounts get mounted and then it all goes bad real quick. The solution is to downgrade to procps 3.3.3 OR upgrade the libprocps0 to 3.3.4 The S02udev fudge is to edit that file and remove the exit after ps is called at line 133. The testing fails to fail because the packages own libraries are used during testing. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-3-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_AU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages procps depends on: ii initscripts 2.88dsf-32 ii libc6 2.13-35 ii libncurses5 5.9-10 ii libncursesw5 5.9-10 ii libprocps01:3.3.3-2 ii libtinfo5 5.9-10 ii lsb-base 4.1+Debian7 Versions of packages procps recommends: ii psmisc 22.20-1 procps suggests no packages. -- Configuration Files: /etc/sysctl.conf changed [not included] -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. (There are some packages which lists non-free/contrib as alternative choices for depends and recommends. That is not good but that is another story.) You can still upload and then request unblock bug report filed to Package: release.debian.org. When you do this, please add short note at the top of README.Debian explaining for what hardware situation you need to install isdnactivecards and its related non-free firmwares. Sometime after version 1.50, our $VERSION = 1.xx was moved to the top of the code, above any package declaration. It is therefore not declaring $Locale::SubCountry::VERSION, and previously-working version checks like use Locale::SubCountry 1.42 now throw a fatal error. The patch below adds a package Locale::SubCountry to the beginning of the code. Bug#691863: capi4hylafax: recommends isdnactivecards from contrib
Hello Osamu, Osamu Aoki wrote on 2012-10-30 22:48: Hi good to see new people taking care packages. Thanks. It is one of my important packages (I maintain this package since 2012-06-14). What is needed to comply with policy is moving isdnactivecards from Recommends to Suggests. Please consider. You can still upload and then request unblock bug report filed to Package: release.debian.org. I already know them because of #682135 and I had tried to update the package since August (with some more fixes). But it is very difficult to get a sponsor who uploads to unstable before the release team accept this update. And after some mails with the release team I didn't get the approval for this update. Finally I stopped updating and wait for wheezy. When you do this, please add short note at the top of README.Debian explaining for what hardware situation you need to install isdnactivecards and its related non-free firmwares. As I see this program, user needs to read files in /usr/share/doc/capi4hylafax such as README.html and README.Debian to use this package. So user will not be affected in any negative way. Bug#691723: libbusiness-onlinepayment-ippay-perl: New upstream release 0.07
On Mon, 29 Oct 2012 20:08:43 -0700, Ivan Kohler wrote: Regarding squeeze, a 0.07 package should be uploaded to squeeze-updates. I think a minimal patch for 0.06 and, with approval of the release team, an upload to stable-proposed-updates is the most realistic way. Regarding wheezy, we should ask for a freeze exception for 0.07. Alternatively, like above, we could backport just the relevant chagnes and uplaod to testing-proposed-updates. Again, I think a backported fix would be the best; and we don't need t-p-u since testing and unstable have the same version. So 0.06-2 with the necessary fix, uploaded to unstable + an unblock bug should be fine. (Except someone gets an approval for 0.07-1 from the RT.) Here is the requested patch for 0.06. Thanks! For the record, I am moving for the next several weeks and then away visiting family, so my time is limited until December. Any help with the suggested releng steps described above would certainly be welcome. 0.06-2 uploaded to unstable, unblock request filed. I'll look at stable now. Cheers, gregor -- .''`. This is forbidden by the policy, see http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html#s-config-files 10.7.3: [...] The easy way to achieve this behavior is to make the configuration file a conffile. [...] This implies that the default version will be part of the package distribution, and must not be modified by the maintainer scripts during installation (or at any other time). Note that once a package ships a modified version of that conffile, dpkg will prompt the user for an action how to handle the upgrade of this modified conffile (that was not modified by the user). Further in 10.7.3: [...] must not ask unnecessary questions (particularly during upgrades) [...] If a configuration file is customized by a maintainer script after having asked some debconf questions, it may not be marked as a conffile. Instead a template could be installed in /usr/share and used by the postinst script to fill in the custom values and create (or update) the configuration file (preserving any user modifications!). This file must be removed during postrm purge. ucf(1) may help with these tasks. See also http://wiki.debian.org/DpkgConffileHandling In https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2012/09/msg00412.html and followups it has been agreed that these bugs are to be filed with severity serious. debsums reports modification of the following files, from the attached log (scroll to the bottom...): /etc/pptpd.conf /etc/init.d/pptpd /etc/ppp/pptpd-options I couldn't reproduce this on a normal installation, it happens only on upgrades. cheers, Andreas pptpd_1.3.4-5.log.gz Description: GNU Zip compressed data ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: pptpd Source-Version: 1.3.4-5.1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of pptpd, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive. If I downgrade to libc6 version 2.11.2-10, everything is working fine. So here my steps to reproduce: 1) add deb http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20111215/ squeeze main to /etc/apt/sources.list and run 'apt-get update' 2) install older libc6 apt-get install libc-bin=2.11.2-10 libc-dev-bin=2.11.2-10 libc6=2.11.2-10 libc6-dev=2.11.2-10 libc6-i386=2.11.2-10 locales=2.11.2-10 3) rerun Icedove Same here: icedove starts with the older version of libc6, but not with version 2.11.3-3. The same is true when also downgrading icedove to 3.0.11-1+squeeze6 (works with old libc6, not with newer libc6). I can also upgrade libc6 to 2.11.3-3 and icedove continues working, but if I also change the version of icedove (by either upgrading or downgrading), icedove again refuses to start. So this seems to be something triggered by running icedove after an update. Does this still occur with Squeeze 6.0.6 ? There are however a few other changes in there which may be due to the removal of the compatibility code. This patch doesn't apply cleanly to 2.3.1 in Debian but I've managed to manually fix it (attached is a version if anyone is interested). - http://opencryptoki.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb.cgi?p=opencryptoki/opencryptoki;a=commitdiff;h=58345488c9351d9be9a4be27c8b407c2706a33a9 31 files changed, 2975 insertions(+), 280 deletions(-) Lots of changes in the tests but it also seems to contain some cleanups related to the previous change, a change from lock_shm() to XProcLock(), some moving of locks to /var/lock and a few other changes. - http://opencryptoki.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb.cgi?p=opencryptoki/opencryptoki;a=commitdiff;h=8a63b3b17d34718d0f8c7525f93b5eb3c623076a 23 files changed, 449 insertions(+), 99 deletions(-) Includes a FAQ typo fix and the introduction of a lot of new code. - http://opencryptoki.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb.cgi?p=opencryptoki/opencryptoki;a=commitdiff;h=5667edb52cd27b7e512f48f823b4bcc6b872ab15 1 files changed, 3 insertions(+), 3 deletions(-) Very small change in the Makfile which creates the lock directory. Should not be relevant for Debian because subdirectories of /var/lock should be created on the fly. The changes are huge and can probably not be easily backported to Debian's 2.3.1. A few other options come to mind: - see if upstream can provide patches for 2.3.1 - see if the necessary fixes can be made some other way - upgrade to upstream 2.4.2 - remove from wheezy (the only reverse dependency for opencryptoki seems to be tpm-tools) Anyway, I don't think I can do much more for this bug because I'm afraid it will take a little more time than I have available at the moment. I was having a look and I though I would just add my notes to the bug log. Good luck with this bug! ;) Removing opencryptoki from Wheezy seems best to me. We should't keep outdated crypto toolkits without an active maintainer in the archive. CCing the Pierre, the tpm-tools maintainer to see, whether tpm-tools is usable withput opencryptoki or whether he's interested in adopting it himself. Yes, t-p-u. :-) (i.e. testing-proposed-updates). A version of 1.0.15-1+deb7u1 would be more conventional here, in order to indicate that the upload was made out of sequence and specifically targeted at wheezy rather than unstable. 1.0.15-2 would work, assuming it's never been used for any upload to Debian. Please prepare the upload, using wheezy as the distribution in the changelog and attach the debdiff to a release.debian.org unblock bug - reportbug will create a correctly usertagged bug - indicating in the body of the report that it's intended for t-p-u. We'll check the debdiff and assuming everything is okay you can then upload to ftp-master as usual. Roland, can you please post the debdiff? Bug#677861: lftp: FTBFS[kfreebsd-i386]: error: conflicting declaration 'typedef __int32_t gl_intptr_t'
Hello Robert Millan! On Thu, Jun 21, 2012 at 07:44:48PM +0200, Robert Millan wrote: 2012/6/17 Christoph Egger christ...@debian.org: ../lib/stdint.h:295:18: error: 'gl_intptr_t' has a previous declaration as 'typedef long int gl_intptr_t' The problem is that lib/stdint.h is hijacking system headers with definitions such as: #define intptr_t gl_intptr_t #define uintptr_t gl_uintptr_t It also does undef prior to that. So if system headers got included first, it should work but it seems it gets included after (and that's why it looks like the system header is defining gl_intptr_t when it's really typedefing intptr_t). Looks like lib/stdint.in.h tries to include the system header first, if it has been detected as existing (and configure output seems to indicate that it did find it). I guess someone needs to untangle all the preprocessor and configure macros in lib/stdint.in.h. If someone from the kfreebsd camp could post the generated lib/stdint.h that would be helpful to be able to see things a bit more clearly. causing them to missbehave. These defines need to be removed. If you want intptr_t, etc, you can get them from stdint.h as usual. Just removing this part of stdint.in.h could be used as a hack to get things to build on kfreebsd (since it's not used on linux), sure. That's not suitable for upstream though Another possibility to hack around the problem could be to add #define __intptr_t_defined to stdint.in.h. Still ugly, but would hopefully avoid breaking (upstream target) platforms that do need the (re)defines. Begs to be asked why kfreebsd headers aren't C99 compatible though... or are the configure tests invalid? Bug#685812: ABI change in 1.6.1 version
I found the cause of this bug: in numpy/core/include/numpy/ndarraytypes.h, in the enum NPY_TYPES, the value NPY_CHAR has changed between NumPy 1.5 and 1.6 (more precisely, it was increased by 3, because new types were introduced). python-scientific uses this enum value at several places (under its alias PyArray_CHAR). Hence the bug. I verified that replacing PyArray_CHAR by (PyArray_CHAR+3) in python-scientific and then compiling against NumPy 1.5 creates a package which is ABI compatible with NumPy 1.6. This is clearly an ABI breakage in NumPy. I don't see how to fix it without bumping the ABI number. Since NPY_CHAR must apparently come after NPY_NTYPES in the enum (the latter counts the number of types), it seems difficult to patch NumPy 1.6 so that NPY_CHAR keeps the same value as in 1.5. What remains unclear to me is whether NPY_CHAR is really meant to be part of the external API. It looks like the NumPy maintainers are well-aware of ABI compatibility issues in this very enum (see the comments in the 1.6 source file), so maybe the change is on purpose. In that latter case, it is python-scientific which is buggy. That remains to be clarified. -- .''`.Sébastien Villemot : :' :Debian Developer `. `' http://www.dynare.org/sebastien `- GPG Key: 4096R/381A7594 pgp5jgWBcAA5b.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#691863: api4hylafax: recommends isdnactivecards from contrib
What is needed to comply with policy is moving isdnactivecards from Recommends to Suggests. Please consider. You can still upload and then request unblock bug report filed to Package: release.debian.org. I already know them because of #682135 and I had tried to update the package since August (with some more fixes). But it is very difficult to get a sponsor who uploads to unstable before the release team accept this update. And after some mails with the release team I didn't get the approval for this update. Finally I stopped updating and wait for wheezy. As the maintainer of this package, it is your responsibility to set the appropriate bug severity so that the rest of us know how critical the issue is, and how important the sponsorship would be. Finally, I don't see a request on sponsorship-requests anyway: http://bugs.debian.org/sponsorship-requests Best wishes, Mike -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#691863: api4hylafax: recommends isdnactivecards from contrib
Hello Michael, In June I was very lucky as I got the overtaken package 'capi4hylafax' still in testing before freeze. Since then I have found some small problems with the package and I searched for a way to update the package in the freeze period (I am only DM). Michael Gilbert wrote on 2012-10-30 16:41: As the maintainer of this package, it is your responsibility to set the appropriate bug severity so that the rest of us know how critical the issue is, and how important the sponsorship would be. In theory I know I can change bug severities, but in respect to the person who send a bug report I do it not often. Finally, I don't see a request on sponsorship-requests anyway: http://bugs.debian.org/sponsorship-requests I uploaded to mentors.d.n at 05.08.2012 and wrote an RFS at 06.08.2012. Then I had some responses from Bart Martens with questions to the fixes in this package. It seemed the fixes are not so important for the wheezy release. Then I have removed my update and the RFS where closed (by Bart Martens at 19.08.2012). Then I have started my request at 14.08.2012 to the release-team about update permission of this package. In October Julien Cristau had answered and asked some questions about the fixes of the updated packages. Some changes seems to be irrelevant or must be resolved in another way. Finally it remained only the fix because of the recommended package isdnactivecards. Now with the new bug report (the second about the same problem) it seems this problem should be solved. On the other hand this problem creates no problem while installing or using capi4hylafax. And now I have the same question as weeks before: is it important enough to ask again the release team about permission for an updated package? I think only this item is not worth enough for an updated package. But on the other side it is against the policy ... --- Have a nice day. Bug#683671: dash doesn't ignore SIGINT when running a command that traps SIGINT
I think that the current status may badly affect the usual use of some applications like Emacs. The fact that there are, AFAIK, no workarounds (except by not using dash, e.g. by changing the /bin/sh symlink) makes me think that it should still be a RC bug. Would you mind if this were reassigned to release-notes? It would say something along the lines of Dash is not yet ready as an interactive shell, bash is currently the only recommended posix-compliant shell. You will experience issues such as #683671 using dash interactively. In the meantime, this should be reported to the upstream dash developers so they can start working on a fix. Bug#683671: dash doesn't ignore SIGINT when running a command that traps SIGINT
On 2012-10-30 15:46:40 -0700, Jonathan Nieder wrote: Michael Gilbert wrote: Would you mind if this were reassigned to release-notes? It would say something along the lines of Dash is not yet ready as an interactive shell, bash is currently the only recommended posix-compliant shell. I think that's an overstatement. Maybe Dash in Debian is not intended to be used as an interactive shell could be accurate, though. The word interactive is incorrect, because when the shell is used to run some program (e.g. via C's system() function), it is not interactive. Please don't reassign this bug, but feel free to clone it and lower the severity. Yes, this is really a bug in dash IMHO, but Emacs is partly in fault because the Ctrl-G will also send the signal in the other processes in the same process group an Emacs (though this may not be very common). The current situation is extremely annoying. :( -- Vincent Lefèvre vinc...@vinc17.net - Web: http://www.vinc17.net/ 100% accessible validated (X)HTML - Blog: http://www.vinc17.net/blog/ Work: CR INRIA - computer arithmetic / AriC project (LIP, ENS-Lyon) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
