Any news on this one. Jenkins has become a candidate for removal due
to this one and I'd be sad to see a release without it.

Bug#699402: nvidia-kernel-legacy-96xx-source: display a gradual fuzzy white after boot, display unusable

2013-01-30 Thread The Eclectic One

Package: nvidia-kernel-legacy-96xx-source
Version: 96.43.23-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

Having noticed that the legaxy-96xx packages have been upgraded in the
last few days, I tried the old nvidia binary driver that used to work
fine in lenny on this very machine (a Dell 8600 with a GeForce4 Ti
4200 Go AGP 8x GPU. Interestingly the system only reports 4x.

   * What led up to the situation?

Installation of the legacy-96xx packages on a wheezy system that was
installed on a clean disk. The installations (via aptitude) didn't
cause errors.

After installing the linux-headers package:

m-a auto-install nvidia-kernel-legacy-96xx-source

did a lot of work in 3 stages and finished without an error.
nvidia.ko is now in /lib/modules/3.2.0-4-486/nvidia.

nvidia-glx-legacy-96xx was already installed, but it was uninstalled and
reinstalled, per the recommendation of the NvidiaGraphicsDriver wiki page.
The reinstallation didn't make any difference.

Then the xorg.conf was modified to be like the one in lenny that worked
great in that release.

update-alternatives was then run to point the links to 96xx.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

The only thing that could be done is shut down the system.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

That kdm would come up and the system would be usable.

Thanks for your reply.

I am happy to learn that other people here are trying to persuade Open
CASCADE S.A.S. to switch to GPL-compatible terms!
I expected that those people would reply to my repeated calls for help,
that's why I (incorrectly) inferred that nobody was helping... Sorry
about my wrong assumption.

Package: stevedore
Version: 0.8-1
Severity: normal

This package attempts to run the test suite at build time but d/control
does not contain the required Build-Depends to actually run it. Please
find the attached debdiff applied to stevedore 0.8-1, which adds
python-mock + python-nose and allows the package to build in clean
environments/schroots.

I don't think this is all that bad. And it seems it's getting fixed for
the next release.

If nobody even *tries*, that's basically certain.

I think that a serious persuasion attempt should be done.
I am doing what I can, but I need the help of other people.

I hope I clarified what I meant.

In that case it's no longer RC... We support upgrades from a stable

Bug#699351: linux-gd obsolete and lubupnp4

2013-01-30 Thread Scott Howard
Hello Eric,

You wrote:
"Linux-igd is dead code, use very old libpunp version that contains
numerous security holes. Besides this version is not compatible with
IPV6 as required by UPnP IGD V2 specification."

I believe you mean libupnp4 contains numerous security holes - have
they been reported in Debian? That could be serious with implications
beyond linux-gd and needs to be addressed immediately. I don't see any
reported [1].

Are there security problems with linux-igd independent of libupnp4?

It seems that the main bug is the linux-igd is not compatible with
UPnP IGD V2. If that is the case, I don't think this is an RC bug
(severity Grave). A "normal" severity seems more appropriate to me.

Regards,
Scott

For the record, the issue isn't that the new version is in NEW - it's
that it's in _unstable_.

'reopen' may be inappropriate when a bug has been closed with a version;
all fixed versions will be cleared, and you may need to re-add them.
Bug reopened
No longer marked as fixed in versions procps/1.3.3.6-1.

So procps is possibly not declaring a Build-Depends on dejagnu...

The same happened when procps was built on the Debian buildds.

Only if dejagnu is already installed, the tests will run, and a
"dpkg-buildpackage -b" fails with:

It's (partly) documented here:
http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/pkgs.html#t-p-u

The target suite must be "testing-proposed-updates" rather than
"unstable", and with the version number Adam requested in the #699308
ticket. A debdiff of the whole thing (compared to 22.19-1) should be
shown to the release team and approved before you upload. (This part is
not mentioned in the docs unfortunately.)

libgettext-ruby was removed from unstable and testing:
http://packages.qa.debian.org/libg/libgettext-ruby.html

http://bugs.debian.org/690263 says:
"superseded by ruby-gettext"

0.6.21 and 0.6.21+nmu1 build fine in wheezy and sid but also use a
transitional package as a build dependency (libgettext-ruby1.8).

I'm attaching patches for
- 0.6.20 in wheezy (for an upload to TPU, unless the release team
  wants to unblock 0.6.21+nmu1) to fix this bug for 0.6.20
- 0.6.21+nmu1 in sid to prevent future failures

gregor

It has so far been unreproducible, and no users have reported the same
behaviour, so I will close this bug.

Of course, if you can still reproduce it with this version, feel free to
reopen this bug.

Kinds regards, Lisandro.

Package: kmail
Version: 4:4.4.3-1
Severity: critical
Tags: squeeze sid
Justification: causes serious data loss

Kmail is running with dimap, imap, imap and pop3 accounts. All is well. I run
aptitude safe-upgrade. Upon next login and start of kmail, all the said accounts
are gone from the settings.

During this startup of kmail (and the corresponding startup
of akonadi), there were numerous messages about unreadable mail folders. These
happened
to be folders of the dimap account, but I suspect that is simply coincidence:
kmail
listed the folders first and someone destroyed them before kmail actually
accessed them.
This makes me wonder if akonadi is the real culprit here, after all, but I have
no way
of finding out. The safe-upgrade did not update kmail, but it did update
akonadi-server.

Critical: data loss: if pop3 account emails are on local disc instead of the
server,
those messages are lost.

-Juha

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package fails to upgrade from
'squeeze'.
It installed fine in 'squeeze', then the upgrade to 'wheezy' fails
because it tries to overwrite files that are owned by other packages
without declaring a Breaks+Replaces relation.

See policy 7.6 at
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html#s-replaces

This problem is exposed during the upgrade of the 'EXPOSER'
package, not by upgrading only the buggy package itself.
In order to have piuparts automatically track this problem, I'll mark
this bug as Affects/Found in the exposing package(s), too.

lustre was removed from testing:

Cf. also http://bugs.debian.org/693506

I assume ldiskfsprogs will have to removed from testing too ...
(and from unstable so that lustre can be removed)

Oh, it seems that I mislooked, and ftp-master didn't NBS it after all.

nah, that's really the ftp-masters job.

Downgrading the severity as this only seems to affect few users and is
therefore not release critical.

Bug#699345: xserver-xorg-video-ati: Xorg crashes with, black/white screen since wheezy update to 6.14.4-6

2013-01-30 Thread Patrick Matthäi

Hi Michel,

> 6.14.4-5 doesn't support your Radeon GPU, so you're using the generic
> driver from xserver-xorg-video-fbdev in that case.
> I suspect your kernel is missing upstream fixes for your GPU.

True. But that also means, that users with such a GPU will have got a
"broken" installation of Wheezy: The -radeon driver is automated
selected by Xorg for this device, on booting/starting KDM (GDM whatever)
the PC crashes and has to be hard resetted.

So the -radeon driver should not be selected for this device, or if the
issue is located in the Linux kernel, the patches should be backported,
so that it works.

We will test the kernel from experimental in the next days.

6.14.4-5 doesn't support your Radeon GPU, so you're using the generic
driver from xserver-xorg-video-fbdev in that case.
I suspect your kernel is missing upstream fixes for your GPU.

Meanwhile, Option "NoAccel" should allow you to use at least the basic
display related features of xserver-xorg-video-radeon.

Sadly, it seems that this documentation is not suitably licensed for

Then ftp2.de.d.o lags behind, too, because I was just able to
reproduce this issue by installing "apt-get install
libavutil51=6:9~beta1-1". Maybe we should add a Breaks relationship to
the affected libavcodec package?

openscenegraph's pkg-config file has been fixed in 3.0.1-4. So now pkg-config
openscenegraph --variable libdir returns /usr/lib/osgPlugins-3.0.1. However,
libcitygml installs the plugins into $prefix/$(pkg-config openscenegraph
--variable libdir) which ends up being /usr/usr/lib/osgPlugins-3.0.1.

The attached patch fixes this problem. If needed I can perform a NMU this
weekend.

Package: libavutil51

Dear Maintainer,
Good day!

After upgrading libavutil51 to 6:9~beta1-1 some programs are failed to start

audacity: relocation error: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/i686/cmov/libavcodec.so.53:

Simply downgrading libavutil51 to 6:0.8.5-1 from testing temporarry solves the
problem.

Thank you!

Bug#685469: ekg2: missing copyright file - after upgrading from squeeze-backports to wheezy

2013-01-30 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Followup-For: Bug #685469
Control: found -1 1:0.3.1-2

Hi,

the missing copyright file persists after upgrading from
squeeze+squeeze-backports with ekg2 from backports installed to wheezy.

That probably means the package also does not properly cleanup when
upgrading from an older snapshot of testing to the current testing.

[continuing with the updated bug template for this problem]

Hi,

a test with piuparts revealed that your package misses the copyright
file after an upgrade from squeeze to wheezy, which is a violation of
Policy 12.5:
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-docs.html#s-copyrightfile

After the upgrade /usr/share/doc/$PACKAGE/ is just an empty directory.

This was observed on the following upgrade paths:

  squeeze -> squeeze-backports -> wheezy

>From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

  MISSING COPYRIGHT FILE: /usr/share/doc/ekg2/copyright
  # ls -lad /usr/share/doc/ekg2
  drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 40 Jan 29 07:01 /usr/share/doc/ekg2
  # ls -la /usr/share/doc/ekg2/
  total 0
  drwxr-xr-x  2 root root   40 Jan 29 07:01 .
  drwxr-xr-x 94 root root 2020 Jan 29 07:01 ..

Additional info may be available here:
http://wiki.debian.org/MissingCopyrightFile

Note that dpkg intentionally does not replace directories with symlinks
and vice versa, you need the maintainer scripts to do this.

For switching from a directory to a link the postinst script should
do something like this:

DOCDIR=/usr/share/doc/@@PACKAGE@@
DOCLINK=@@OTHERPACKAGE@@

if [ -d $DOCDIR ] && [ ! -L $DOCDIR ] ; then
rmdir $DOCDIR
ln -s $DOCLINK $DOCDIR
fi

For switching from a link to a directory, the preinst script should
do something like this:

DOCDIR=/usr/share/doc/@@PACKAGE@@

if [ -L $DOCDIR ] ; then
rm $DOCDIR
fi

 .
   [ Artur R. Czechowski ]
   * New upstream release:
 + uses CONFIG += no_keywords so that the library can be used with Boost
   (LP: #414975) (Closes: #697660)
   * Using upstream name convention: libQGLViewer instead of libqglviewer
   * Don't build Qt3 version anymore
   * Drop no longer needed patches:
 + 01qt3-qt4
 + 04glu-include
 + 99compile-examples
   * Convert to 3.0 (quilt) format
 + remove dpatch from Build-Deps and all calls from debian/rules
 + update patches in debian/patches
 + replace debian/00list with debian/series
 + remove README.source
 + rename remaining patches - remove NN prefix
   * Pass multiarch related LIB_DIR to qmake in debian/rules
   * Lintian cleanup:
 + fix descriptions
 + libqglviewer-qt4-2 depends on ${misc:Depends}
 + build-arch and build-indep provided in debian/rules
   * Update Standards-Version to 3.9.3
 + sort Breaks/Replaces/Provides dependencies for transition
   * Remove transition related stuff. The dev package is libqglviewer-dev,
 the shared library package is libqglviewer2.
   * Headers moved from libqglviewer-dev-common to libqglviewer-dev
   * Documentation moved from libqglviewer-dev-common to new libqglviewer-doc
   * Remove debian/README.Multiflavour and other qt3 related artifacts from
 debian/
   * README.Debian cleanup
 + Merge all *.README.Debian into one file - the content is the same
 + Corrected upstream name in README.Debian
 + Updated URL of homepage
   * Provide upstreams GPL_EXCEPTION file, mention it in copyright one.
   * Tighten shlibs dependencies, as upstream confirmed no ABI compatibility
 is assured between even minor releases
   * Hardening the binaries

I will remove the PDF documentation from the source. For
Guide2source_extractor.pdf, this is obvious. If sextractor.pdf (and/or a
HTML documentation, as by #399759) is needed, it can better be built as
a separate package from the source code in
