Bug#706101: Bug#706292: Acknowledgement (qpid-python: python can't import qpid)

I guess the only solution at this point is wheezy-ignore? I was looking at a removal, given the popcon figures and the fact that the package wasn't in squeeze. The reverse dependency tree appears to end up including the whole of openstack though. :-( I don't think it's quite so bad as it seems, in terms of removal. Taking out qpid-python and related packages just leaves nova as a build-dependent. According to openstack upstream [1] qpid is not the default messaging backend, and that is also true in the default nova configuration file. So I presume nova b-d on qpid-python so it can be an optional backend. I'm going to: - try building nova without python-qpid as a b-d - get in touch with the openstack packagers on irc to see if this is something we can do without breaking people. -- Jonathan Wiltshire j...@debian.org Debian Developer http://people.debian.org/~jmw 4096R: 0xD3524C51 / 0A55 B7C5 1223 3942 86EC 74C3 5394 479D D352 4C51 signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#706101: Do not just rush to remove the package please
Hi, Considering that: 1/ this package comes from: http://qpid.apache.org/ which leads me to believe that it is very unlikely that the author wish to release some non-free work. If there is a license problem, then it is very likely that it will be fixed, and the license clarified. 2/ in specs/LICENSE we can see 2 license, Apache-2.0 and AMQP, which leads me to believe that the intention is that the files under specs/* are licensed under a dual-license, then I don't think it is reasonable to just rush so fast to remove this package. If there really is a problem with this package, then it will go away, that's for sure. But please allow a reasonable delay so that we get enough time to get in touch with upstream author to clarify the situation. The release of Wheezy in few days is *not* a valid reason to just blindly remove the package without trying to understand what went on, or to cleanly fix the problem. We had this kind of issues in the past, and it wasn't a problem, as long as it was addressed. I am taking care of asking upstream. Bug#706101: License problem with qpid-python
Dear QPID maintainers, Jonas Smedegaard just sent a bug report on the Debian bug tracker, because he believes that the qpid-python package in Debian is non-free: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=706101 Indeed, when having a look in the sepcs/* folder, we can see a LICENSE file which contains both the Apache-2.0 and AMQP license. Though nearly all files in that folder contains only the AMQP license header. So it is not clear at all under which license these files are. And if they are only licensed under the AMQP license, then they are non-free in the eyes of Debian (the AMQP license isn't suitable for Debian). If this issue isn't solved quickly, then the package will have to be removed from Debian. Also, since Debian Wheezy will be out this week-end, a lightning fast answer from you would be really appreciated. Best case would be if we could solve this problem before the release. Bug#706482: gcc-msp430: generated interrupt table for MSP430FR5xxx parts will blow security fuse
Package: gcc-msp430 Version: 4.6.3~mspgcc-20120406-3 Severity: critical Moin, The current interrupt table code definitions in the gcc-msp430 and msp430mcu packages will lead to generate tables that go far into a reserved region of the MSP430 devices in case of the MSP430FR5xxx devices. Apperantly this region contains the passwords and lock code for device. Ie once this region is written to and the device reset, access over JTAG becomes impossible. See http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.hardware.texas-instruments.msp430.gcc.user/10623/focus=10627 for an explenation. Bug#706484: racy creation of logrotate.state file causing lost logfiles
Package: logrotate Version: 3.7.8-6 Severity: critical Tags: upstream Justification: causes serious data loss Bug occurred with 3.7.8-6ubuntu3.1, but is present in Debian and all upstream versions up to and including 3.8.4. When writing the state file, logrotate essentially does fopen(); fprinf(); fclose();. If anything fails between fopen() and fclose(), Bad Stuff happens. Failures include -ENOSPC, which ought to be fairly common. On -ENOSPC the state file is truncated, usually with a partial line at the end. Future logrotate runs will use the state file, but fail to write it with error: could not read state file, will not attempt to write into it Therefore the state file gets both truncated and stale. Afaics log rotation still happens, but only for files present in the truncated stale state file. So one set of logs is rotated regularly and another is not. While trying to debug the partial rotation issue I ran logrotate manually with -v, causing a second logrotate run for the day. Because logrotate hadn't happend in a long time - if you believe the state file - this destroyed a day's worth of logs for the files that were rotated. Afaics the data loss depends on using dateext, which I do. Obvious fix is to do fopen(); fprintf(); fclose(); rename(); instead. If the write fails for any reason, you still have the old state file. However, the obvious fix still falls short, as the state file would not be untruncated, but still stale. So future logrotate runs will still happily destroy data. I suspect the only sane real fix is to get rid of the state file for the dateext case. Glob for logfile-20130430*, or maybe logfile-20130430 and logfile-20130430.gz and use that to decide whether to rotate or not. The only point of the state file is to get this information for the logfile.0 case. And arguably even then it should be sufficient to trust the file dates. -- Package-specific info: Contents of /etc/logrotate.d total 36 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 194 Jan 1 2011 apache2 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 173 Jan 25 2011 apt -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 79 Oct 16 2010 aptitude -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 232 Jan 30 2011 dpkg -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 146 Jan 31 2011 exim4-base -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 126 Jan 31 2011 exim4-paniclog -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 153 Dec 4 2010 postgresql-common -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 515 Nov 30 2010 rsyslog -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 322 Dec 7 2010 samba -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0.6 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages logrotate depends on: ii base-passwd 3.5.22 Debian base system master password ii cron 3.0pl1-116 process scheduling daemon ii libc6 2.11.3-4 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libpopt0 1.16-1 lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libselinux1 2.0.96-1 SELinux runtime shared libraries Versions of packages logrotate recommends: ii bsd-mailx [mailx] 8.1.2-0.20100314cvs-1 simple mail user agent logrotate suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#706493: python-abiword: missing python-gtk2 dependency
Control: forcemerge 706493 706298 Actually, adding Depends: python-gtk2 would bring in an implicit Depends: python-gobject-2 so that would fix both issues. Bug#706484: racy creation of logrotate.state file causing lost logfiles
On Tue, Apr 30, 2013 at 12:12:56PM -0400, Joern Engel wrote: Bug occurred with 3.7.8-6ubuntu3.1, but is present in Debian and all upstream versions up to and including 3.8.4. ... On -ENOSPC the state file is truncated, usually with a partial line at the end. Future logrotate runs will use the state file, but fail to write it with error: could not read state file, will not attempt to write into it I suspect the only sane real fix is to get rid of the state file for the dateext case. Glob for logfile-20130430*, or maybe logfile-20130430 and logfile-20130430.gz and use that to decide whether to rotate or not. Parsing filenames is not feasible. The dateformat can be anything the sysadmin specifies, and can vary from logfile to logfile. I'd be inclined to say that on ENOSPC on /var/lib, all bets are off. Things will stop working (eg. dpkg). The best you can hope for is for an automatic email to alert the sysadmin about the problem. Your suggested write/rename-or-fail-with-big-error is strategy is possible, and looks to me as a less worse solution. Using dateext is no worse (and no better) than the default in this case. Using file datestamps as a rotation criterion fails badly when the system time has been set to the wrong value at some point in the past. The alternative (and ultimately safest against log file data loss) is to delete the status file completely if it fails writing, and hence reset all the rotation intervals to their default. Unorthodox, yes, confusing, yes, but absolutely the least likely to cause data loss (except perhaps from allowing /var/log to run out of space too, which, if /var/lib and /var/log are on the same filesystem, has already happened). -- Paul Martin p...@debian.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#702436: Latest Version?
David, You say ...the latest version of graphviz, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive. But you don't mention which version. Are you referring to graphviz 2.30.1? The current version of graphviz is 2.26.3, and is /really /old. There are many bugfixes and program improvements that I would like to see.
Bug#706473: Bug # 706473: wine-bin: WINE does not install on wheezy x86_64

I am currently performing a fresh installation of Wheezy using Debian Installer RC2 since the system I previously tested to install wine-bin:i386 had some unstable packages pulled in. Bug#706484: racy creation of logrotate.state file causing lost logfiles
On Tue, 30 April 2013 22:55:38 +0100, Paul Martin wrote: Parsing filenames is not feasible. The issue is not that you have an unusable system _while_ you get -ENOSPC, the issue is that you have an unusable system _after_ you deleted some files or otherwise removed -ENOSPC. Worse, the system superficially appears usable and will eat your data at some inconvenient time in the future. Bugs don't come much worse than that. It would create logfile-1970 or something similar, which I would consider acceptable. But the next step is likely to decide that logfile-1970 is more than 15000 days old and therefore should be deleted. And with ntp that actually becomes a remote attack vector. Scary thought. Seems good to me. Move the status file, rotate, write new status file, rename. If anything goes wrong in the middle, say a system reboot, we at least don't destroy data. And while working on a fix I noticed that svn commit 254 introduced the data-eating behaviour. In case of logrotate exiting before rewriting the state file there is also a data loss scenario, but the one I happened to hit was impossible before 254. Bug#706473: Bug # 706473: wine-bin: WINE does not install on wheezy x86_64
close 706473 thanks Ok, I just successfully installed wine-bin:i386 only a freshly installed Debian Wheezy/amd64 using the following method: dpkg --add-architecture i386 apt-get update apt-get install wine-bin:i386 No conflicts and no non-installable packages were reported. I furthermore made sure all the dependencies wine pulled in with arch=i386 were also installable at the same time with arch=amd64 (except for all the *wine* packages and libc-i686 which are not available in the amd64 archives). And, again, there were no dependency problems or packages that could not be installed. It's therefore safe to close this bug. Cheers, Adrian -- .''`.
