Bug#742322: backtrace for systemd crash

2014-03-27 Thread Andreas Cadhalpun

Hi,

On 27.03.2014 02:29, Michael Biebl wrote:

Thanks a lot for the back trace!

I'm glad I could help.

This helped me to reproduce the sequence of events which need to happen
to trigger the abort. So this is good news (well sort of).

This is great news, at least for me, as I now can reboot this machine.

Andreas, you mentioned:

'Freezing execution' sounds as bad as crashing.

Actually it isn't. Would systemd symply crash, your kernel would freeze.
With systemd catching the SIGABRT you can at least still stop your
service (even if you need to do that via kill), you can sync and unmount
your fs besides / and do a half-way decent reboot.

You're right, I can still make a half-way decent reboot, and that's what
I'm going to do now.

Best regards,
Andreas

Bug#742283: supermin: internal error: assertion failed at dpkg.ml, line 86, char 19

2014-03-27 Thread Richard W.M. Jones
I am able to reproduce this bug with supermin 5.1.5 by doing:

$ sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install attr:i386
$ sudo apt-get install xfsprogs

(Note that xfsprogs requires attr.)

After that:

$ dpkg-query --show --showformat '${Package} ${Version} ${Architecture}\n' |
grep attr
attr 1:2.4.47-1 i386
libattr1 1:2.4.47-1 amd64
libattr1 1:2.4.47-1 i386
libattr1-dev 1:2.4.47-1 amd64

Now to reproduce the bug, do:

$ supermin --version
supermin 5.1.5
$ supermin --prepare attr xfsprogs -o /tmp/supermin.d
supermin: internal error: assertion failed at dpkg.ml, line 86, char 19

However, using supermin 5.1.6 does not produce the assertion failure,
and I am able to prepare and build an appliance:

$ git describe
v5.1.6
$ ./src/supermin --prepare attr xfsprogs -o /tmp/supermin.d
$ ./src/supermin --build /tmp/supermin.d -o /tmp/appliance.d -f chroot

So I think you should try upgrading to 5.1.6 to fix this bug.

Rich.

Bug#718682: Intending to NMU lcms (Version 1)

2014-03-27 Thread Tobias Frost
Hallo Oleksandr,

I just saw that you have a LowNMU policy, but you'd like to be contacted
before doing the actual NMU.

Well, I'm currently preparing a NMU for the lcms* to fix some CVE and a
fatal lintian error. Please feel

(* I'm talking about the old lcms-1, not the lcms2 ... just to avoid
confusion)

Please note that I cannot upload the NMU by myself, so I will ask my AM,
Thijs Kinkhorst (CC'ed) to put the upload into DELAYED/8 if he approves
(and you not vetoing).
I've choosen DELAYED/8 because I will be away from computers starting
tomorrow for a week, and I'd like to be available when the package
enters the queue.

This is the current changelog for the intended NMU:

lcms (1.19.dfsg1-1.3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Apply fix from OpenSuse for CVE-2013-4276 (Closes: #718682)
  * Repack orig-source to remove non-dfsg free color profiles. This is
necessary as the resulting lintian error
license-problem-md5sum-non-free-file would lead to an autoreject
(Closes: #736806).
  * Fix CVE-2013-4160 by backporting the fix from lcms-2 (Closes:
#728208)

 -- Tobias Frost t...@coldtobi.de  Thu, 27 Mar 2014 12:20:24 +0100

I already attached the patches I will use for the CVS's to the BTS,
but of course I will also send an complete nmudiff later to the BTS.

Best regards,

Bug#742780: Bogus LFS test on autoconf

2014-03-27 Thread Mathieu Malaterre
Package: autoconf
Version: 2.69-1
Severity: grave
Tags: lfs

The file: ./lib/autoconf/specific.m4 contained basically the following C code:

[...]
#include sys/types.h

int main(int argc, char **argv)
{
  /* Cause a compile-time error if off_t is smaller than 64 bits */
#define LARGE_OFF_T (((off_t) 1  62) - 1 + ((off_t) 1  62))
  int off_t_is_large[ (LARGE_OFF_T % 2147483629 == 721  LARGE_OFF_T
% 2147483647 == 1) ? 1 : -1 ];
  return 0;
}
[...]

this is undefined behavior (clang fails as expected, but not gcc 4.6
and above). Instead it should (maybe?) read as:

[...]
#include sys/types.h

int main(int argc, char **argv)
{
  /* Cause a compile-time error if off_t is smaller than 64 bits */
#define LARGE_OFF_T (((off_t) (1LL  62)) - 1 + ((off_t) (1LL  62)))
  int off_t_is_large[ (LARGE_OFF_T % 2147483629 == 721  LARGE_OFF_T
% 2147483647 == 1) ? 1 : -1 ];
  return 0;
}
[...]

  int off_t_is_large[ sizeof(off_t) = 8 ? 1 : -1 ];

Bug#742691: New version of python-biom-format (Was: Bug#742691: please make robust against ad-hoc (pre/post released) versions of cython)

2014-03-27 Thread Andreas Tille
Hi,

On Wed, Mar 26, 2014 at 10:54:11AM -0400, Yaroslav Halchenko wrote:
 ok -- done -- see patch attached

I just realised that Biom-format has moved to a different location and
thus we missed the new version. When inspecting this I realised that it
is not using Cython any more - so the problem will be fixed with the new
version automatically (Yaroslav, sorry for keeping you busy for no use
:-().

I have updated the packaging at

   svn://svn.debian.org/svn/debian-med/trunk/packages/python-biom-format/trunk/

and have the following questions (specifically also to Tim):

  1. Did you forwarded this patch to upstream?

http://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/debian-med/trunk/packages/python-biom-format/trunk/debian/patches/smart_arse_fix.patch?view=markup

 I think upstream would be interested in incorporating it.

  2. Tim, your latest changelog says: Rename add_metadata to something
 less generic. It will die in the next release anyway. Since the
 script did not died in 1.3.1 I wonder what next release you might
 mean.

  3. Will the packaging which I prepared in SVN work together with the
 latest qiime package? This question is probably important before
 I'll upload it to unstable.

Kind regards

   Andreas.

This is happening because the sieve_plugins setting is used, which

Well, seems to be worth discussing. I'll do since I also want to
approach them about unit tests (which vanished in the new version).

2. Tim, your latest changelog says: Rename add_metadata to something

 My guess is that updating PyQi might help
 (https://pypi.python.org/pypi/pyqi/). Did you already do that?

No, I did not. I just realised that this also has moved. To bad if
projects are moving and our watch files are pointing to the wrong
location. Since it might perfectly be the cause of the problem I could
try to do this today evening / night if nobody will beat me.

This also scores one more point for the unit test which simply should
have made the build fail ...

 Also, can this now be arch=all or is there still something being
 compiled that I missed?

I think so. I'm not done with the package anyway since it creates
a lintian error about google-spying in the docs. Letting you have
a look in parallel has proven to be valuable. ;-)

Kind regards and thanks for testing

Andreas.

Bug#742780: Bogus LFS test on autoconf

2014-03-27 Thread Sven Joachim
On 2014-03-27 12:56 +0100, Mathieu Malaterre wrote:

 Package: autoconf
 Version: 2.69-1
 Severity: grave
 Tags: lfs

 The file: ./lib/autoconf/specific.m4 contained basically the following C code:

 [...]
 #include sys/types.h

 int main(int argc, char **argv)
 {
   /* Cause a compile-time error if off_t is smaller than 64 bits */
 #define LARGE_OFF_T (((off_t) 1  62) - 1 + ((off_t) 1  62))
   int off_t_is_large[ (LARGE_OFF_T % 2147483629 == 721  LARGE_OFF_T
 % 2147483647 == 1) ? 1 : -1 ];
   return 0;
 }

There is one important difference, though: in autoconf, the
off_t_is_large array is declared _outside_ main(), and current gcc
versions barf with variably modified 'off_t_is_large' at file scope
error message on it.

So despite the undefined behavior, packages in the archive are probably
not broken (yet?).

Cheers,
   Sven

Bug#726370: gphoto2: Similar behaviour with Nokia Lumia 1020

2014-03-27 Thread Massis Sirapian
Source: libgphoto2
Followup-For: Bug #726370

Hello,

The Nokia Lumia 1020 now supports RAW and when trying to get some files from
the (PTP) device, I occasionnaly get the same 150 error.

Besides, when with some browsers I can copy JPGs, the RAW files (DNG) won't
even open or be copied with a -6 error (operation not supported).

I don't understand why I get sometimes error 150 and other times that -6 error.
However, I've reported this upstream (at least the fact that DNG won't copy),
suspecting a MIME type not being explicity defined in the WP8 camera driver of
gphoto2.

Marcus from gphoto2 has responded: http://sourceforge.net/p/gphoto/bugs/975/

He suggests to test 2.5.4 where he has relaxed restrictions on downloading from
mtp devices.

Back to this bug, I am unable to download anything from Darktable ; with
Digikam, JPG will eventually be copied but DNG will always fail.

Konqueror returns an error 150, dolphin camera:// works fine (except with DNGs).

I'm not sure the 2 bugs (DNG can not be copied or read) and this error 150 are
totally linked, but upstream seems to suggest things have evolved for PTP
connection in 2.5.4.

Happy to test the new version when available.

Regards

Massis

 Hi,

  I cannot reproduce it on i386/amd64 cowbuilder, so tag it as unreproducible.

Try it with sbuild instead. python-babel fails to build every time with
sbuild. Removing the unreproducible tag again.

Bug#742822: file conflict with sysvinit-utils breaks debootstrapping unstable

Package: startpar

Severity: serious

Hi

The undeclared file conflict between the new startpar package and
sysvinit-utils (2.88dsf-51) breaks debootstrapping:

# debootstrap --arch=amd64 --variant=minbase sid /mnt/
http://debianrepo.lan/debian/
[...]
W: Failure while unpacking required packages. This will be attempted up to
five times.
W: See /mnt/debootstrap/debootstrap.log for details (possibly the package
archive is at fault)

which leads to

The new startpar package is pulled into the debootstrap run due to
being Priority: required, but neither startpart nor the package it
aims to replace (sysvinit-utils) know about the file conflict via
proper Conflicts/ Replaces.

This most likely affects cdebootstrap just as well, although I can't
confirm that because of #737939.

[ Re-sent to BTS by request of the security team, also updated ]

a bug in the handling of indirect magic rules of libmagic leads to
an infinite recursion when trying to determine the file type of
certain files. The has been assigned CVE-2014-1943. Additionally,
other well-crafted files might result in long computation times (five
seconds for a single file while using 100% CPU) and overlong results
(~400k line), something some applications that operate on the file
result might not handle in a sane way.

The issue has been made public by Bernd Melchers who initially found
this bug: http://mx.gw.com/pipermail/file/2014/001327.html

Impact is two-layered. The bug itself has been introduced years ago
(pre oldstable). From jessie on, the default magic file as shipped in
the package contains a file magic rule that is exploitable for a
segmentation fault.

In other words:

jessie: Always affected and in full scale.

squeeze/wheezy: Segmentation fault when using non-standard magic
files that use indirect in a certain way. Still vulnerable for the
computation time and overlong issues mentioned above.

Upstream released 5.17 last night, fixing the bug for all
reproducers I have in my collection. Backporting the patch is not
trivial but hopefully feasible. I'll give that a try later the day.

Hi Moritz,

Thanks for the heads up, but that link is rather unclear and talks about
an old version of cacti. How is e.g. CVE-2014-2326 different than (the
already fixed) CVE-2013-5588, CVE-2010-2545, CVE-2010-2544 and
CVE-2010-2543?

And is CVE-2014-2328 not the same as CVE-2009-4112?

I see CVE-2014-2327 as being new though.

The debdiff at
http://debdiffs.raspbian.org/main/m/memcachedb/memcachedb_1.2.0-10%2brpi1.debdiff
was applied to make the package build in raspbian. It will probablly
make it build in debian too but this has not been tested. Whether or not
the package actually works after fixing the build has also not been tested.

Hi,

muffin FTBFS with the new cogl. The attached debdiff fixes this issue.

I plan to NMU this RSN if no action is taken, as this is going to block
the cogl transition soon.

 Oh, do you know if this is communicated upstream? I didn't see this on
 the cacti list and don't see it in the bug tracker.

I don't know, I only saw the announcement from Telekom CERT on bugtraq.
Maybe contact them at c...@telekom.de for more information.

 Hi,

 I've tried to build it on i386/amd64 cowbuilder and succeeded.
[...]

You probably built src:iproute2 which has been fixed with the
new dependencies needed for texlive these days.

The bug is against src:iproute, which should be decrufted from
the archive since it's useless now.

Hi

The undeclared file conflict between the new startpar package and
sysvinit-utils (2.88dsf-51) breaks debootstrapping:

# debootstrap --arch=amd64 --variant=minbase sid /mnt/
http://debianrepo.lan/debian/
[...]
W: Failure while unpacking required packages. This will be attempted up to
five times.
W: See /mnt/debootstrap/debootstrap.log for details (possibly the package
archive is at fault)

which leads to

startpar 0.58-1
dpkg-deb: error: subprocess paste was killed by signal (Broken pipe)

The new startpar package is pulled into the debootstrap run due to
being Priority: required, but neither startpart nor the package it
aims to replace (sysvinit-utils) know about the file conflict via
proper Conflicts/ Replaces.

This most likely affects cdebootstrap just as well, although I can't
confirm that because of #737939.

Bug#742840: Crashes when typing numbers using a .

Package: gnome-calculator
Version: 3.12.0-1
Severity: grave

I'm using the German locale. I've tried to enter a real number using .
instead of of ,. This immediately caused a segfault.

To reproduce, run the following
LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 gnome-calculator
then try to enter 3.14. This results in

either the iterator is uninitialized, or the characters/pixbufs/widgets
in the buffer have been modified since the iterator was created.
You must use marks, character numbers, or line numbers to preserve a

You can apply tags and insert marks without invalidating your iterators,
but any mutation that affects 'indexable' buffer contents (contents that
can be referred to by character offset)
will invalidate all outstanding iterators

Thanks

The fix for this issue that I just uploaded to raspbian can be found at
http://debdiffs.raspbian.org/main/h/hotkeys/hotkeys_0.5.7.4-0.3%2brpi1.debdiff

It seems that the file Changelog in the source tree is hardlinked to
debian/changelog, this may require some care when applying the patch.
