Bug#720466: Request for new maintainer
I have sent the following to sub...@bugs.debian.org: Package: cinnamon Severity: normal First let me say I am a user, not the maintainer. However, this package seems to have been abandoned by its maintainer. There have been no version changes since August 2013. Is it possible to give someone else the responsibility of packaging this DE? Thanks, --Peter It is my hope that someone will be able to adopt this package to start making regular updates again. I miss having a usable cinnamon! Regards, --Peter

Bug#742590: gnat-4.9: FTBFS on powerpc, Storage_Error in two source files
Package: src:gnat-4.9 Followup-For: Bug #742590 Control: retitle -1 FTBFS on powerpc, wrong System.Address'Size Control: tags -1 + pending Revision b1ec15211bb78fd840cc96b500d13e5f1531f9b8 fixes this issue. In order to help next newcomer to modify flags for specific sources, please consider applying or forwarding the attached diff. Two points deserve review: * debian/ada-symbolic-tracebacks.diff adds this line: +convert_addresses.o : convert_addresses.c I believe this is redundant and can safely be removed. * the recipe for tracebak.o inserts -fno-omit-frame-pointer after INCLUDES, and my diff inserts it after ALL_COMPILERFLAGS. This usually means an old version of the package shipped a symlink but that was later replaced by a real (and non-empty) directory. This kind of overwriting another package's files cannot be detected by dpkg. This was observed on the following upgrade paths: jessie -> sid wheezy -> sid wheezy -> jessie For /usr/share/doc/PACKAGE this may not be problematic as long as both packages are installed, ship byte-for-byte identical files and are upgraded in lockstep. But once one of the involved packages gets removed, the other one will lose its documentation files, too, including the copyright file, which is a violation of Policy 12.5: http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-docs.html#s-copyrightfile For other overwritten locations anything interesting may happen. Note that dpkg intentionally does not replace directories with symlinks and vice versa, you need the maintainer scripts to do this. See in particular the end of point 4 in http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-unpackphase It is recommended to use the dpkg-maintscript-helper commands 'dir_to_symlink' and 'symlink_to_dir' (available since dpkg 1.17.2) to perform the conversion, ideally using d/$PACKAGE.mainstscript. See dpkg-maintscript-helper(1) and dh_installdeb(1) for details. >From the attached log (usually somewhere in the middle...): 0m56.4s ERROR: FAIL: silently overwrites files via directory symlinks: /usr/share/doc/libwine-bin/changelog.Debian.gz (libwine-bin) != /usr/share/doc/libwine/changelog.Debian.gz (libwine:amd64, libwine:i386) /usr/share/doc/libwine-bin/copyright (libwine-bin) != /usr/share/doc/libwine/copyright (libwine:amd64, libwine:i386) /usr/share/doc/wine-bin/changelog.Debian.gz (wine-bin) != /usr/share/doc/libwine/changelog.Debian.gz (libwine:amd64, libwine:i386) /usr/share/doc/wine-bin/copyright (wine-bin) != /usr/share/doc/libwine/copyright (libwine:amd64, libwine:i386) cheers, Andreas wine_1.6.2-2.log.gz Description: GNU Zip compressed data --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: wine Source-Version: 1.6.2-8 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of wine, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive. Package: ckeditor version: 3.0+dfsg0-0.1 user: debian...@lists.debian.org usertags: source-is-missing user: lintian-maint@d.o usertags: source-is-missing severity: serious X-Debbugs-CC: ftpmas...@ftp-master.debian.org Dear package maintainer, dear ftpmaster, Ckeditor package seems to include some files that lacks source in prefered forms of modification. *.js (minified) According to Debian Free Software Guidelines [1] (DFSG) §2: "The program must include source code, and must allow distribution in source code as well as compiled form.". This could also constitute a license violation for some copyleft licenses such as the GNU GPL (It is the case GPL/LGPL/MPL need the source so cc ftpmaster) In order to solve this problem, you could: 1. repack the origin tarball adding the missing source to it. 2 add the source files to "debian/missing-sources" directory Both way satisfies the requirement that we ship the source. Second option might be preferable due to the following reasons [2]: - Upstream can do it too and you could even supply a patch to them, thus full filling our social contract [3], see particularly §2. - If source and non-source are in different locations, ftpmasters may miss the source and (needlessly) reject the package. - The source isn't duplicated in every .diff.gz/.debian.tar.* (though this only really matters for larger sources). If this is a false-positive, please report a bug against Lintian. You could also ask debian-qa for more guidance. In this case it seems svn is the only part of upstream that include source. Bug#740097: nVidia driver 304.121 does NOT solve issues
My configuration is nearly identical to those mentioned above: `# uname -a Linux obx-056-ws 3.13-1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.13.5-1 (2014-03-04) x86_64 GNU/Linux` `# lspci | grep VGA 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G71 [GeForce 7900 GT/GTO] (rev a1)` There no 'nvidia' packages listed in dpkg. I received the 'acpi_os_wait" in logs. Problem began immediately upon 'apt-get dist-upgrade' to 3.13-1-amd64. I installed that last proprietary drive from nVidia 'NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-304.121.run' which I downloaded directly form them. I was unable to get it to install using DKMS so had to install without. Otherwise installation went without event. It now boots directly into KDE desktop without issue, flashing the nVidia splash screen. It seems to be working normally until I push it a little with OpenGL. After running for about a minute or so while requiring OpenGL (not sure if its OpenGL or just because of heavy rendering load) it starts to lag fast, until within a few seconds it's no longer usable. After waiting a few minutes for the close application instructions to be executed, it then goes back appearing normal again. This effect is also seen when requesting full screen video, another heavy rendering task. This behavior is identical to what I received when I previously installed 304.117 with the section in nv_acpi.c commented out and tested it. This makes me wonder if nVidia just released the same driver with this patch in it... possibly not addressing the problem adequately.

Bug#742894: Incomplete debian/copyright [was: Uploading package(s)]
Hi, > By the way. How did you get the lintian error? Mine doesnt > report any errors. lintian -ivIE --pedantic jabberd2_2.2.17-2_i386.changes > ./lintian.log And as a maintainer you should always use the latest lintian version for testing of your packages. Currently it is 2.5.22. > Is there a tool which lists all different copyright licenses in > all files? I searched but could not find one. Or have I to check > all files by hand? There are few tools which may help you. For example, you may use licensecheck from package devscripts. Just run command: licensecheck --copyright -c . -r . or even: licensecheck --copyright -c . -r . | /usr/lib/cdbs/licensecheck2dep5 > ./copyright_ in the sources directory. But have in mind that its output includes not full info and all blocks with "Copyright: *No copyright*" and "License: UNKNOWN" should be checked manually. Also I would recommend to sort all blocks by license, instead of specific files or copyright holders. In this case debian/copyright file will be simpler. Yes, this is tiresome and not fun, but this is the part of maintainers work. Best regards, Boris -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". I am not sure how Gi overrides work, but in normal Python 2.x packages such debug files usually have _d suffix, i.e. _gi_gst_d.so (that is usually done by dh_python2). Take a look at python-cairo-dbg or python-sip-dbg for an example. Also, I would expect python-gst-1.0-dbg to contain debug symbols stripped from python-gst-1.0, i.e. /usr/lib/debug/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gi/overrides/_gi_gst.so. This bug does not affect Python 3.x version of the package, where the naming is proper. -- Dmitry Shachnev signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: gst-python1.0 Source-Version: 1.2.0-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of gst-python1.0, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive. The problem appears to be that rudeconfig's ltmain.sh comes from an old version of libtool (1.5.22, from December 2005) that lacks proper regexp metacharacter escaping when canonicalizing the compiler version (4.6 at present), wrongly transforming i486-* path components into i4.6-*. Updating ltmain.sh wholesale fixes the error, provided you also run aclocal and autoconf to resync the rest of the build system. Could you please take a look? Bug#742955: rmpi: FTBFS on arm*

The last change was a pretty innocent (and otherwise very useful) patch by Don (CC'ed) -- see #741297 for more on that. And the 'SHLIB_LIBADD' rings a bell, but I cannot recall where / how else we fixed that :-/ I fear this is an arm-and-R issue, not a Rmpi issue. Eg on amd64 box: edd@max:~/src/debian/CRAN/Rmpi-0.6-3$ grep SHLIB_LIBADD /etc/R/Makeconf SHLIB_LIBADD = ALL_LIBS = $(PKG_LIBS) $(SHLIB_LIBADD) $(LIBR)# $(LIBINTL) edd@max:~/src/debian/CRAN/Rmpi-0.6-3$ [ Ok, goes digging some more. ] Bug #679180 was all about this already, so it is a regression. HOWEVER this very issue is also said to be addressed in R 3.1.0. From its NEWS file * Some bugs in TRE have been corrected by updating from the git repository. This allows R to be installed on some platforms for which this was a blocker (PR#15087 suggests Linux on ARM and HP-UX). Here #15087 is a ticket in R's bugzilla. Could you try with the r-base-core 3.0.3.20140328-1 build I uploaded yesterday? And slim has a regression where it is not build with pam: #742904. Bug#722362: Updating the Ruby packaging policy for your package «libroot-bindings-ruby-dev»
Hi, Those RC bugs with Ruby1.8 dependency would be solved by rebuilding with current ruby-default as 1.9.1. I've tried it and its dependency is set as ruby1.9.1-dev as below > henrich@hp:~/tmp/build $ LANG=C dpkg --info > libroot-bindings-ruby-dev_5.34.14-1_amd64.deb (snip) > Package: libroot-bindings-ruby-dev > Source: root-system > Version: 5.34.14-1 > Architecture: amd64 > Maintainer: Debian Science Maintainers > > Installed-Size: 89 > Depends: libroot-bindings-ruby5.34 (= 5.34.14-1), libroot-core-dev, > ruby1.9.1-dev | ruby-dev (>= 4.9) (snip) Of course we should deal with bump up default Ruby version to 2.0, 2.1 in the future, but anyway now we should eliminate dependency with ruby1.8 so please consider to push package (or binNMU?). -- Regards, Hideki Yamane henrich @ debian.or.jp/org http://wiki.debian.org/HidekiYamane -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#742950: network-manager: After updating to network-manager/0.9.8.8-4: connecting to network fail: NO session found for uid
Package: network-manager Version: 0.9.8.0-5 Severity: grave Hi Disclaimer: have set the severity to grave as it renders for me an non-working network connection (but I'm unable to replicate the problem on a second system -- but with a different setup). Package: samhain Version: 3.1.0-5 Followup-For: Bug #735530 User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com Usertags: origin-ubuntu trusty ubuntu-patch In Ubuntu, the attached patch was applied to achieve the following: * Configure with disable-asm on amd64 targets to work around FTBFS. * Build-depend on autotools-dev to always update config.{sub, guess} Obviously, upstream fixing their asm would be better than disabling it, but this works around the FTBFS nicely. Tacked on to this diff is also updating build-deps to add autotools-dev so that builds on new arches get config.{sub, guess} automatically without you needing to do a fresh upload to update the diff. ... Bug#742915: Confirmed this issue.
> xserver-xorg-video-vmware : Depends: libxatracker1 but it is not > installable I confirmed this issue when debootstraping a sid. Apparently libxatracker1 is no more. It's replaced by libxatracker2 (10.1.0-4).
