When exporting from a *.dia file from a *.PNG one, the content gets broken. All
text is gone and some lines too. However, this isn't happening with the Wheezy
version.

Bug#754850: upower 0.99 drops support for non-systemd

2014-09-04 Thread Adam Borowski
A new version of upower packages came up -- so I just retested.

As of mid-August, both "suspend" and "hibernate" buttons were grayed out.
With current (Sep 04) versions from unstable, they are shown but show a
dialog box:
.--==[ Failed to suspend session ]
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied:
Operation not permitted
`

Probably related: I can't reboot or shutdown from the GUI as well, both
while logged on and from lightdm login screen.

On my real box:
* purged systemd-must-die
* unheld all utopia packages
* installed systemd-shim with dependencies
* dist-upgraded, bringing utopia up to date
* rebooted
* tried to suspend/hibernate
* tested that pm-utils do work -- all ok
* tried to reboot
* restored the system to the old state (thank gods and Chris Mason for btrfs!)

On virtualbox VM:
* installed from the jessie d-i Beta 1 image
* upgraded to unstable
* upgraded to sysvinit-core, installed systemd-shim
* rebooted
* messed with virtualbox-guest-{dkms,x11} to get proper X drivers
* rebooted
* tried suspending, hibernating, rebooting, etc.

Today:
On virtualbox VM:
* dist-upgraded the VM
* rebooted
* tried the stuff again
* installed your /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/suspend-hibernate.pkla
* rebooted
* tried the stuff yet again

Ie, basically what I did (except for dist-upgrading everything to unstable).

That's not something an user should need to do. And even if you added this
configuration by default, only people in the sudo group would be able to
suspend -- rather than whoever is logged on.

> Ofcourse, if you want to avoid fiddling around with undermaintained software

I did not break this, the utopia team did. Just keeping the packages at
their working version would work -- so it's not a matter of
"undermaintained", it's "maintained in a bad way". Inaction would be enough
(or at the moment, reverting to wheezy's or mid-jessie-cycle state).

And on 3 out of 5 machines in the room I'm currently I can't even install
systemd-sysv even if I somehow wanted to.

But back to the problem at hand:
could you list your test environment, so I could see any setup where upower
_does_ work?

Thanks.

I have not been able to reproduce this behavior. I've recently updated the
backport to 1.3.0, so once it gets out of binary New, please check and see if
you can still replicate it.

In any case, I don't see this as anything other than a fairly normal bug. If
it was reproducible, I'd go for important.

Bug#760540: doxygen: Update to 1.8.8-3 causes FTBFS

2014-09-04 Thread Scott Kitterman
Package: doxygen
Version: 1.8.8-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Upgrading from 1.8.7 in Jessie to 1.8.8 in Sid causes libopendbx to FTBFS.

See #759951. I've verified that taking current Sid and downgrading just
doxygen fixes the FTBFS. I've also reviewed the upstream changelog and did
not find any intentional changes that would have caused the desired behavior
of doxygen to change (which is why I think it's a bug in doxygen):

http://www.stack.nl/~dimitri/doxygen/manual/changelog.html

I did try running doxygen -u on the Doxyfile.in for libopendbx, but that
made no difference regarding the FTBFS.

This package runs tests with HOME set to /tmp. But HOME is supposed to
be writable only by trusted users, whereas /tmp is world-writable.

Malicious local user could exploit this flaw to execute arbitrary code,
by putting a crafted Python module into
/tmp/.local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/.

I don't believe this bug affects tox after 1.7.1 (I didn't go back farther
than that). Neither d/rules nor d/tests/built set $HOME any more, since
upstream fixed the issue causing this.

Pretty sure. From my build log this evening:

| /usr/bin/make -C build all_build stats release \
| USE_UDEBS_FROM=unstable BUILD_DATE=2014 \
| USE_PROPOSED_UPDATES= \
| TRANSSTATUS= BOOTMENU_BEEP=n

No more changes to this package. Thanks.

At some point I'll check through remaining "uninstallable" udebs,
perhaps adding some to anna/excludes where it seems legitimate (e.g.
arch:all package with Linux-specific dependencies, like partman-iscsi).
 And the dependencies of any others.

Out of curiosity: are you sure udebs are pulled from unstable and not
testing? (checking the suite mentioned in syslog, or udeb versions
should do the job.)

Yep, I saw the commit notification on IRC. If you don't have any further
changes planned, I'll probably upload it later tonight.

Thanks.

Hi KiBi,

I know almost everything looks uninstallable according to:
http://d-i.debian.org/edos/#unstable

But it seems I can still build d-i from unstable udebs, and anna fetches
all the needed udebs, not caring that partman-partitioning/104 and
partman-basicfilesystems/98 are uninstallable. In partman itself I
don't notice any regressions in functionality. I can't actually find
anything broken due to this?

That said, I would of course like to clean this up.

I can't find any documentation that kfreebsd ever supported ntfs in d-i.
 If/when we come to implement that we should base it on ntfs-3g and
Colin's new code in partman-basicfilesystems. It's not a high priority
for me though.

Until then, we'll drop the dependency; partman's menus don't list ntfs
as an available option if I do this. I've applied this in Git in case
anyone is able to do a new upload fixing this soon. Thanks.

Bug#760520: metview: FTBFS: cannot access 'debian/metview-data/...'

2014-09-04 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Source: metview
Version: 4.4.8+dfsg.1-1
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

Thanks again for addressing #760028!

Builds now get much further, but still fail when covering only
metview's architecture-dependent binary packages:

  chmod -R -x debian/metview-data/usr/share/metview/*
  chmod: cannot access 'debian/metview-data/usr/share/metview/*': No such file
or directory
  make[1]: *** [override_dh_fixperms] Error 1

  make[1]: Leaving directory '/«BUILDDIR»/metview-4.4.8+dfsg.1'
  make: *** [binary-arch] Error 2
  debian/rules:22: recipe for target 'binary-arch' failed

Could you please arrange to run this command (and any others specific
to metview-data) only when actually building metview-data?

Thanks!

The extract of the build log[0] on the bug report isn't particularly helpful.
All the test failures (there are more than just the ones listed) are
of the form:

Unhandled error: [DBD::SQLite::st execute failed: attempt to write a readonly
database at /usr/share/perl5/Wiki/Toolkit/Store/Database.pm line 567.

The first of this appears at t/109_autocreate.t:

$ perl -Ilib t/109_autocreate.t
1..13
Creating table internal_links... done
Creating table content... done
Creating table metadata... done

] at /usr/share/perl5/Wiki/Toolkit.pm line 849.
# Looks like your test exited with 2 before it could output anything.

Next, t/802_stylesheet.t:

$ perl -Ilib t/802_stylesheet.t
1..3
Creating table metadata... done
Creating table content... done
Creating table schema_info... done
Creating table node... done

] at /usr/share/perl5/Wiki/Toolkit.pm line 849.
# Looks like your test exited with 2 before it could output anything.

Thirdly, 809_recent_changes_ip_addr.t, just to demonstrate it doesn't
always happen immediately:

$ perl -Ilib t/809_recent_changes_ip_addr.t
1..10
Creating table internal_links... done
Creating table metadata... done
Creating table schema_info... done
Creating table node... done
Creating table content... done
ok 1 - prefs available as TT var on recent changes
ok 2 - ...even when there's a recent changes tracking cookie set
Unhandled error: [DBD::SQLite::st execute failed: attempt to write a readonly
database at /usr/share/perl5/Wiki/Toolkit/Store/Database.pm line 567.
] at /usr/share/perl5/Wiki/Toolkit.pm line 849.
# Looks like you planned 10 tests but ran 2.
# Looks like your test exited with 2 just after 2.

Running strace on the first of these gives:

which doesn't immediately explain why we got the error. It does seem
to be peculiar to the Debian environment (no failures at [1] except
unrelated ones on Windows).

I should probably make explicit that I don't think these are genuine
ACL problems. The file and its containing directory remain writeable by the
user at all times, as far as I can see. It doesn't seem to be architecture
specific (at least it fails with i386 and amd64 equally).

I'm at a bit of a loss how to proceed, here. Does anyone have any ideas?

Dominic.

Hi,

During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on
amd64.

On new readline versions old-style function typedefs have been deprecated.

I've disabled opendmarc now because half an hour after restarting
it it crashed again. If it was a certain e-mail, I might have
received it now and it might stop crashing now.

Bug#741785: libpeas, seed and FTBFS bugs.

2014-09-04 Thread peter green
I was looking at why gnome-core is not yet installable on arm64
(currently checking with both debian-ports and debian official in
sources.list). One of the problems I ran into was the depchain.

gnome-core->eog->libpeas->seed

Seed currently has four RC bugs, three of them are duplicates of each other and
relate to failures on big endian architectures which does not appear to be
getting much attention upstream and one general FTBFS bug that has a fix
upstream (and has had for some time).

I have been informed that libpeas is already built without seed support on hurd-i386 mips powerpc s390x sparc and there are outstanding requests to add hppa and alpha support to that list ( https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=757241 ).

Looking at the seed packages with apt-cache rdepends I get

libseed-gtk3-0
Reverse Depends:
 libpeas-1.0-0
 seed
 libseed-gtk3-dev
 libpeas-1.0-0

libseed-gtk3-dev
Reverse Depends:
 gnome-core-devel

seed
Reverse Depends:

seed-doc
Reverse Depends:
 libseed-gtk3-dev

Build-rdeps shows a similar story with libpeas being the only source package in
debian listed.

The dependency of gnome-core-devel on seed is also architecture qualified (as
not mips) so presumablly seed is optional there too.

I see three possible ways to get things back to a sane (non rc-buggy) state

1: Fix all the FTBFS bugs in seed.
2: Apply the fix the general FTBFS in seed. Check what architectures the
resulting package builds on and either fix or declare seed unssupportable on
any remaining architectures. On the architectures where seed has been declared
unsupportable adjust libpeas and gnome-core-devel to eliminate dependencies on
it and then request removal of the old seed binaries from those architectures.
3: get rid of seed completely.

Option 1 would obviously be prefferable in an ideal world but it doesn't seem like there is anyone prepared to do the work
Option 2 seems like the most sensible course of action to me.

Option 3 is probablly over-aggressive.

Bug#760499: partman-partitioning: uninstallable on kfreebsd-*: depends on ntfs-3g-udeb

Hi,

this package is no longer installable on kfreebsd-* since it depends on
ntfs-3g-udeb; this totally breaks d-i on kfreebsd-* since partman-base
depends on partman-partitioning, and many other components depend on
partman-base.

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package fails to upgrade from

Dear maintainer,

We're aiming to migrate the archive to using wxwidgets3.0 instead of
wxwidgets2.8, and intend to drop wxwidgets2.8 before jessie is released.

I've tried rebuilding qutemol with the BD updated to use
libwxgtk3.0-dev, but the build fails due to wx API changes. I've
attached a log of my attempt in case it's useful. A quick look suggests
qutemol is dead upstream, so you may find wx upstream's overview of
changes since wx2.8 useful:

http://docs.wxwidgets.org/3.0/overview_changes_since28.html

One of the most common reasons for packages failing to build seems to
be that wx3.0 drops compatibility with things which were deprecated in
wx2.8 (so for example you now must use wxFD_SAVE not wxSAVE). Updating
these should remain compatible with wx2.8, so shouldn't block pushing
fixes upstream even if your upstream still cares about supporting wx2.8.

Another thing to be aware of is that wx3.0 turns on "WXDEBUG" mode by
default, and some applications throw up a lot of assertion failed
dialogs due to using the wx API in invalid ways. If you compile your
package with -DNDEBUG then such assertions aren't checked, and the same
fallbacks which were quietly used in wx2.8 are used instead.

If you hit any problems with getting packages working with wxwidgets3.0
which you can't overcome, let me know and I'll try to help.

Cheers,
Olly

Package: gocr-tk
Version: 0.49-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

We plan to drop alternatives for /usr/bin/wish from tk8.5 (only the tk package
will provide symlink /usr/bin/wish) before jessie release.

In your gocr-tk package the /usr/bin/gocr-tk script calls /usr/bin/wish,
so it will stop working after the change in tk8.5.

I see two ways of fixing this:
either replace /usr/bin/wish by /usr/bin/wish8.5 and use tk8.5 in dependencies,
or retain /usr/bin/wish and use simple tk in tependencies.

In the latter case, please, test you script using tk package from experimental,
as it pulls tk8.6 package as a default (8.6 as a default is planned for jessie
too).

Bug#725714: Problem with firmware loading

2014-09-04 Thread octane indice

Hello,

I ran into the same problem with a wifi card (iwlwifi). I have a workaround for
that. First, be
sure to have the installation medi with the non-free firmware/drivers. Install
until the error
"ethernet card not found".

Open console (alt-f2).
Then install manually the firmware:
# cp /cdrom/firmware/firmware-iwlw*deb /tmp
 (choose your firmware accordingly to your hardware)
# cd /tmp
# ar x *deb
# xzcat data.tar.xz > data.tar
# cd /
# tar xf /tmp/data.tar
 (at this point, you should have a /lib/firmware directory)
# rmmod iwlwifi
# modprobe iwlwifi
# ip a
should show a wlan0 card.

Go back to console 1, and choose the network detection from the menu. The
network is
detected.

But unfortunatley, I couldn't go further: The iwlwifi card was detected,
network scanning was
OK (all SSID were shown) but connection was impossible, with messages similar
to
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=174659 in console 4. I used an
USB/RJ45 dongle to
netinstall and now the wifi card works flawlessly. So it could be another
installer issue, or the
way I've loaded the firmware or modprobe the module (?)

Yeah, this is your problem then. You have a policykit-1 version which
uses ConsoleKit as backend, and your corresponding libraries use logind
as backend. That doesn't work.

While such partial upgrades and mixtures between suites are *not*
supported, we will most likely add explicit breaks to the library
packages, so such a partial upgrade is not possible.

Downgrading as not-RC.

I'm saying that instead of bothering the person doing the apt-get

Bug#742875: why doesn't the command do it for us

2014-09-04 Thread 積丹尼 Dan Jacobson
"This likely means that your installation is broken.
Try running the command
  gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders >
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/2.10.0/loaders.cache
to make things work again for the time being."

Why not do it for the user instead of having him type it in year after year?

Well, a script in the authentication phase can either be sufficient
for authentication, or it can further limit authentication. If you
look at the examples in '/usr/share/doc/libpam-script/examples/',
the README.examples explains how to use a script 'tally' [1] to limit
the number of login attempts, or imagine the restriction to time slots
where login is allowed. For all these cases using 'sufficient' is
fatal, as any other authentication method is bypassed.

Sure, depending on what you want to do (further restrict or allow) you
have to modify that configuration. The question is: "What is the
most common configuration?" and "Which configuration can/cannot cause
harm by default?".

> If you want to change the default, then better

I think optional is fine. It does not undermine the authentication
already in place by the examples returning zero by default. It does
not lock out everybody if the script returns non-zero. If either
'sufficient' or 'required' are needed, the system is modified anyway,
and the sysadmin implementing this will test if things work as
expected. There will be no surprises.

However, I agree that 'required' is still much better from a security
perspective than 'sufficient'.

Best regards,

 Andi

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail, and violates
sections 7.6.1 and 10.1 of the policy. An optimal solution would
consist in only one of the packages installing that file, and renaming
or removing the file in the other package. Depending on the
circumstances you might also consider Replace relations or file
diversions. If the conflicting situation cannot be resolved then, as a
last resort, the two packages have to declare a mutual
Conflict. Please take into account that Replaces, Conflicts and
diversions should only be used when packages provide different
implementations for the same functionality.

Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages
(according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be
slightly out of sync):

  /usr/share/lintian/overrides/libgyoto1

This bug has been filed against both packages. If you, the maintainers of
the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will
resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package. You may then
also register in the BTS that the other package is affected by the bug.

Bug#760450: libc6-prof is unusable

2014-09-04 Thread Dmitry Eremin-Solenikov
Package: libc6-prof
Version: 2.19-10
Severity: grave

The library from libc6-prof package is unusable.

I'm compiling the simple example program:

int main(void)
{
return sleep(3);
}

If I follow directly the suggestion from the README.Debian, I get the
following error:

$ gcc -g -pg test.c  -static-libgcc -lc_p
/usr/bin/ld: dynamic STT_GNU_IFUNC symbol `strcmp' with pointer equality
in
`/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.9/../../../x86_64-linux-gnu/libc_p.a(strcmp.op)'
can not be used when making an executable; recompile with -fPIE and
relink with -pie
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

I was able to make executable using one of the following compile lines:

$ gcc -g -pg test.c -nodefaultlibs  -lc_p -lgcc_eh -lc_p

or

$ gcc -g -pg test.c -nodefaultlibs -Wl,--start-group -lc_p -lgcc_eh
-Wl,--end-group

However the resulting executable segfaults:

$ ./a.out
Segmentation fault
$ valgrind --quiet ./a.out

Bug#760449: harden: outdated info

2014-09-04 Thread Ivo De Decker
package: harden
severity: serious

Hi,

The information in harden is seriously outdated. The last upload was my NMU to
fix issues for the wheezy release (if we had auto-removals back then, it would
not have been in wheezy). It clains to 'make your system hardened', but that's
obviously not the case. It's probably better to keep it out of jessie.

Cheers,

Ivo

can you install amule-dbg and run amule thru gdb and when it crashes
attach to this bug the output of "bt" / "bt full" / "thread apply all
bt" gdb command?

Thanks,

The service file has the following line:
User=transmission

It should be replaced with:
User=debian-transmission

Moreover, the type is set to "notify", but it never sends a signal, so
systemd kills it. Until this has been explained, this line should be
removed.
