Bug#763694: libtecla transition breakage
Hi Aurelien, On Wed, Oct 01, 2014 at 09:29:45PM +, Aurelien Jarno wrote: Source: libtecla, bladerf, maude Severity: serious Dear Maintainer, it looks like the latest libtecla upload to unstable renamed libtecla1-dev into libtecla-dev. This has not been coordinated with the reverse-dependencies, so bladerf and maude are now unbuildable. Please don't do that. You are right - this was a bad thing. However, it seems bladerf has just adapted: $ apt-cache showsrc bladerf | grep Build-Depends.*libtecla-dev Build-Depends: debhelper (= 9), cmake (= 2.8.5), pkg-config, doxygen, libusb-1.0-0-dev (= 1.0.12) [linux-any], libusb2-dev [kfreebsd-any], libtecla-dev, libncurses5-dev, help2man Now this has to be fixed. Either by reverting the change in libtecla, or by updating the build-dependencies in bladerf and maude. I let you choose what is the best. As the freeze is approaching please fix that within a week. I'll upload a fixed maude today. Thanks for noticing Andreas. -- http://fam-tille.de -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#763710: FTBFS on various architectures, test-suite failures
* Michael Biebl: as can be seen on [1], libguestfs FTBFS on various architectures, like amd64 and i386. Even though libsystemd0 is installed, the test suite fails with guestfsd: error while loading shared libraries: libsystemd.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory That probably happens because libsystemd.so.0 is not transferred into the guest filesystem. I believe that this is fixed in experimental. Cheers, -Hilko -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Could somebody from debian-arm@ (x-d-cc) check what's going on precisely and possibly forward the failure to the right place if d-i isn't the buggy package here? Thanks for your time. Bug#763741: libguestfs: Incorrect build-dependencies (libsystemd-id128-0, libsystemd-journal0), fails binNMU
Source: libguestfs Version: 1:1.26.9-1 Severity: serious Justification: 7.7 Relationships between source and binary packages Dear Maintainer, During a round of binNMUs for the transition[1] to the unified libsystemd0 the binNMU fails to accomplish its goals for libguestfs. Somehow the old libraries still get linked although the pkg-config flags tells it to use libsystemd0. I spotted these build-dependencies which in themselves are wrong: libsystemd-id128-0, libsystemd-journal0 This might be the culprit for making the binNMU fail. This transition is already underway, and is being tracked by the release team here: https://release.debian.org/transitions/html/wxpython3.0.html The wxPython 3.0 API mostly adds to the wxPython2.8 API. Many packages work with wxPython 3.0 without any changes, but there are a few incompatibilities. For example, wx.Color is no longer supported as an alias for wx.Colour, and some constants which were deprecated in 2.8 have been removed. All the removed constants I'm aware of were set to 0 in wxPython 2.8, so removing them is still compatible with 2.8. To assist updating to wxPython 3.0, I've put together a script which will help make the mechanical changes required. This is in a git repo on collab-maint along with a README about using it and updating packages for wxPython 3.0 in general: http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab-maint/wx-migration-tools.git The script has some options to control the sorts of changes it makes - see the README and --help output for more information - you can view the latest version of the README online here: http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab-maint/wx-migration-tools.git/tree/README I've developed this script by trying to convert 20+ packages. Please try it out on your package - in many cases, it should be enough to get your package working (if it doesn't already) - if it does, please upload (and close this bug). If the script doesn't do the job, please let me know (or improve the script if you can figure out what it needs to do to get your package working). Another issue you may hit is that wxWidgets 3.0 now defaults to enabling its WXDEBUG checks for incorrect API usage, so some applications will emit scary sounding assertion failures. These are unlikely to actually be new, just in a default build of 2.8, such incorrect uses were handled quietly behind the scenes. Sometimes these are easy to fix, but if not you can easily patch the application to tell wx 3.0 to handle them in the same way wx 2.8 does - details of how to do so are in the README: http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab-maint/wx-migration-tools.git/tree/README I'm happy to sponsor uploads for this transition, though if you have an active sponsor already check with them first - I don't want to tread on anyone's toes. Bug#759745: gdm3: Unable to login post-upgrade without systemd-sysv installed
Hi there, It's very well possible that this is a policykit issue - although I'm not 100% sure yet; it happens *before* anything user related after all. This is the bare gdm3 itself which doesn't work (it doesn't show any login/password fields). I would instinctively start looking at systemd-logind, but I wouldn't have the faintest clue on how those two play together. Is there a way to get a list of all policykit groups that exist on a system, and what they do? Thanks, Lennert signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#763759: bash: please drop debian-specific privmode disablement patch
Package: bash Version: 4.2+dfsg-0.1+deb7u3 Severity: grave Tags: security Justification: user security hole This is not about a new security problem. This bug is a request for re-evaluation of debian/patches/privmode.diff, in light of the recent developments re. bash security. This patch was added to Debian's bash packages a _very_ long time ago, to bash 2.03-2. Please downgrade and tag this bug wontfix if you feel we should still carry the privmode.diff patch in Debian. The above mentioned patch disables one of the security defenses in upstream /bin/bash against privilege escalation attacks. Specifically, it prevents the early drop of setuid/setgid priviledges, and also prevents the secure behavior (not importing shell functions, not executing startup scripts, etc) when /bin/bash is _NOT_ used as /bin/sh. This behaviour change is surprising to just about everyone, including Debian users. While it is mentioned in very cryptic form in the README.Debian file, the manpage still documents the upstream behaviour. I request that we remove the debian/patches/privmode.diff local change from the bash packages in unstable, and preferably also from stable and squeeze-lts, in light of Shellshock, and also past vulnerability history. Installing and uninstalling gives me that damn symlink issue, and my whole system is paralyzed. This issue has been fixed in all Debian releases. Bug#763780: apt-get: Insecure temporary changelog handling
Package: apt Version: 0.8.7 Severity: serious Tags: security patch Hi! I've found an instance of insecure temporary filenames handling. The problem is that the code correctly creates a temporary directory, but then uses that name as just a prefix for the created changelog filename, thus creating it alongside the tamporary directory (instead of inside of it), and making it very much predictable. This is worsened due to the time it takes apt-get to download the changelog from the net, which gives a very huge window to use that pathname. Attached a patch fixing this. This affects all versions starting from the one in squeeze. I'm not sure if this deserves a CVE or perhaps a lower severity? Chromium is actually a special case. It's a huge monster package which is very difficult to integrate and maintain. One of the reasons that make it difficult to integrate is that it embeds many other projects. (The third_party folder in the chromium source tree contains 150 subfolders!) From chromium's debian/rules one can see that the chromium maintainers try to use system libraries wherever possible, e.g. for bzip2, libjpeg, libpng and so on. It also already contains (outdated) support for using system FFmpeg libraries, but using that was not possible, because FFmpeg hadn't been available in Debian since squeeze until very recently. So I hope the maintainer of chromium is now happy to be able to use more system libraries. You seem to have missed that for Chromium we rebuild the current upstream releases in stable. I was aware of that and as I understand it, this is not something the security team likes very much. Since there're not guarantees for any kind of API stability in the local ffmpeg copy that is obviously not a good idea. Great that we agree on b) being no good idea. I've classified the bug as grave and rendering package unusable, however, since glib2 provides no independent functionality to the flesh-and-blood user, this implies unusability in packages that utilize glib2. I'm surprised that this sort of garba^Wunfortunate malfunction, for which bug #758619 has existed since 19th of August this year, can still hit testing; and that it has seemingly gone untested to a degree at which the bug hasn't been seen by the glib2 maintainers. Bug#761629: Quick response from upstream!
Received this today: Hi Ross, I'm currently unable to check this issue directly on Debian Unstable, anyway I discovered in the meanwhile that the same identical problem affects Debian Testing and Ubuntu 14.04: all them ships wxWidgets 3.0.x the real cause of this bug is really puzzling: immediately after selecting the Shapefile path the app will then attempt to identify the appropriate platform charset name. the actual code supporting this task is located on libspatialite in -/src/gaiaaux/gg_utf8.c - gaiaGetLocaleCharset() on every Linux this simply ends up in calling nl_langinfo(CODESET) and here happens the puzzling issue: e.g. Fedora (wxGTK-2.8) will return 'UTF-8' exactly as expected. Ubuntu wxGTK-3.0 will return insead 'ANSI_X3.4-1968': AFAIK this simply is an alias name for US-ASCII, anyway it's *not* defined in the standard list of well-known charsets supported by spatialite_gui (based on common iconv definitions) and this causes an invalid pointer to be returned, thus finally causing the reported crash. counter-check: I've just applied this brutal patch on Main.cpp near line 280: - LocaleCharset = wxString::FromUTF8(gaiaGetLocaleCharset()); + LocaleCharset = wxT(UTF-8); this seems to succesfully eradicate the crash (indirectly confirming that the crash cause is to be identified in the crazy charset name returned bu Ubuntu, and I strongly suspect from Debian as well). I'm absolutely unaware if this odd issue is caused by Debian/Ubuntu or by wxGTK-3.0.x; the ubunu shell apparently reports UTF-8 as the default charset currently used, and this focuses the strongest suspects on wxGTK-3.0 surely to be investigated in more depth bye Sandro --- And then: Hi Ross, there is an interesting follow-up: googling around I've found this old Debian ticket: https://lists.debian.org/debian-glibc/2008/08/msg00146.html so it looks that on Debian (and Debian-derived such as Ubuntu) ANSI_X3.4-1968 is the expected default charset name until the program explicitly asks to import all Locale definitions from the environment. after this the charset name will become UTF-8 as usually expected. accordingly to all this the most appropriate patch seems to be the following one (to be placed on the very first line of the Main ctor): { // // main GUI frame constructor // + setlocale(LC_ALL, ); it's just a suspect of my own, but probably wxGTK-2.8 automatically performed this task during its own initialization, whilst wxGTK-3.x doesn't bye Sandro signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#763157: [PATCH initramfs-tools 0/5] Only mount /usr if the real init is systemd
On Mon, 2014-09-29 at 01:44 +0100, Ben Hutchings wrote: Currently initscripts will not work correctly if /usr is mounted by initramfs-tools. Firstly, fsck will fail and the boot process will stop. If you press Ctrl-D to continue, the boot process will succeed but /usr will not be remounted read-write if necessary. [...] Also, we must not run fsck in the initramfs because the system clock may not be correct yet; see #763777. Unfortunately, systemd does not fsck /usr if it's already mounted. Please, pretty please, make this smoother! I don't know what you want changed, but there's certainly no critical bug on systemd. If you don't want packages to depend on systemd, that'd be bugs in those packages, not on systemd (but honestly I'll probably close any such bugs on any of my packages). Anyway, you can install systemd, libpam-systemd and systemd-shim and keep running any init system. But if you don't want to install those, that's fine. Just don't. But don't complain if some package links with libsystemd0 in order to be able to talk to some systemd service if that's available. Emilio---End Message---

It has been removed in 1:1.3.1-4 as I said it would be. https://tracker.debian.org/news/574328 O. Bug#745969: guile-1.8: FTBFS: conflicting types for 'yyget_leng'
Andreas Barth a...@ayous.org writes: Especially as the freeze is in about a month, I don't think this will be acomplished unless someone is pushing really hard right now. Possibly, but I'd still like to make the attempt -- and we *have* been making progress (in unstable at least). And note that I believe there's also a chance that some of the packages may just be removed from Debian. So I'd like to see how close we can get by the pre-freeze deadline. I am not sure why the old libjpeg-progs 1:1.3.1-3 binaries are still in sid. Maybe you need to ask the ftp-masters to remove them.
