Bug#770402: nautilus-dropbox on Wheezy destroys Debian's package manager

2015-09-13 Thread Regis Smith
Package: nautilus-dropbox
Version: 1.4.0-3
Followup-For: Bug #770402

Dear Maintainer,

Installing nautilus-dropbox on Wheezy leads to the hang at "Downloading
Dropbox... 100%" as reported earlier. This leaves apt in an unrecoverable
state, as apt needs to complete the installation before doing anything else.
Please consider removing this package from Wheezy in the next update. I think
people like myself who use oldstable don't have time to waste with stuff like
this.

Nevertheless, I'll take this as proper punishment for attempting to install
proprietary software.

Go for it (no pun intended), but bear in mind that this issue will
persist until the uploads clear NEW.

Meanwhile, rawdns's build dependency on

  golang-github-miekg-dns-dev | golang-dns-dev

is similarly problematic.

Hi,

gurlchecker uses libgnet, which is deprecated upstream [1]. We want
to remove libgnet soon (although it won't probably happen before
Squeeze is released), so gurlchecker should stop using libgnet. It
could be ported to glib and/or libsoup.

We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:

gurlchecker | 0.13.1-2.2 | source, amd64, armel, armhf, hurd-i386, i386,

--

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive and will not propagate to any mirrors until the next
dinstall run at the earliest.

Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.

We try to close bugs which have been reported against this package
automatically. But please check all old bugs, if they were closed
correctly or should have been re-assigned to another package.

Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 798...@bugs.debian.org.

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package fails to upgrade from

It installed fine in 'sid', then the upgrade to 'experimental' fails
because it tries to overwrite other packages files without declaring a

Bug#756729: about to close

2015-09-13 Thread Russell Coker
I'm going to upload a new policy to unstable that closes this bug. It allows
udev to restart systemd services (the core problem with allow-hotplug). The
policy in question doesn't support all the features of the version of systems
in unstable (I'll get to that later).

deb http://www.coker.com.au jessie selinux

For people who use Jessie the above APT repository will have the new policy to
fix these problems.

Package: vlc
Version: 2.2.1-3
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 3.5

after upgrade, vlc started segfaulting on startup. This was solved by:

[UPGRADE] libvlc5:amd64 2.2.0~rc2-2+deb8u1 -> 2.2.1-3
[UPGRADE] libvlccore8:amd64 2.2.0~rc2-2+deb8u1 -> 2.2.1-3
[UPGRADE] vlc-data:amd64 2.2.0~rc2-2+deb8u1 -> 2.2.1-3
[UPGRADE] vlc-plugin-pulse:amd64 2.2.0~rc2-2+deb8u1 -> 2.2.1-3

which suggests that dependency on at least one of these packages is
too lax (should be more strictly versioned).

here's the backtrace for reference (without symbols)

Package: gettext-el
Version: 0.19.5.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

po-mode now yields an error

  'msgfmt' from GNU gettext 0.10.36 or greater is required

when validating a .po file, making it unusable to edit such files.

msgfmt seems to be recent enough:

$ msgfmt --version
msgfmt (GNU gettext-tools) 0.19.5.1

/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/gettext/po-mode.el contains:

  (>= (string-to-number
   (format "%d%03d%03d"
   (string-to-number (match-string 1))
   (string-to-number (match-string 2))
   (string-to-number (or (match-string 3) "0"
  010036)

It seems that the format is incorrect (3 components instead of 4).

I suggest to remove the version check: the dependency system is
there to avoid that.

Changes:
 gettext (0.19.6-1) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   * New upstream release.
   * Drop debian/patches/03-fix-gettextize-version. No longer needed.
   * Drop dependency of gettext-base on libasprintf0v5 as it dates from
 a split made in release 0.18.1.1-6.
   * Keep curl and friends in Recommends, for translators.
 Move autopoint, libasprintf-dev and libgettextpo-dev to Suggests.
   * Downgrade libasprintf0v5 to optional.
   * Add debian/upstream/signing-key.asc and improve debian/watch file.
   * Makefile.in.in has now a general mechanism to set the header of
 a POT file, using $(DOMAIN).pot-update. This could be used to set
 copyright holders and other things. Closes: #682580.
   * Fix po-mode handling of msgfmt version number. Closes: #798903.
   * Drop Pre-Depends on multiarch-support, because a stable release
 has already happened.

Dear maintainer,

I only removed leftovers of packages that had already been removed by a
dist-upgrade.
After that, sddm would not give me a login prompt so I was unable to log
into KDE the normal way.

I had to do 'systemctl stop sddm.service', as root.
Then 'startx startkde' as user to access the desktop, this bypassing sddm.
I checked the above mentioned packages and they are installed and the
latest version in stretch.
In order to log into desktop the normal way I installed kdm and set is
as default.

To help troubleshooting I will attach some traces I collected from error
logs.

Bug#798903: po-mode: 'msgfmt' from GNU gettext 0.10.36 or greater is required

2015-09-13 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: gettext-el
Version: 0.19.5.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

po-mode now yields an error

  'msgfmt' from GNU gettext 0.10.36 or greater is required

when validating a .po file, making it unusable to edit such files.

msgfmt seems to be recent enough:

$ msgfmt --version
msgfmt (GNU gettext-tools) 0.19.5.1

/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/gettext/po-mode.el contains:

  (>= (string-to-number
   (format "%d%03d%03d"
   (string-to-number (match-string 1))
   (string-to-number (match-string 2))
   (string-to-number (or (match-string 3) "0"
  010036)

It seems that the format is incorrect (3 components instead of 4).

I suggest to remove the version check: the dependency system is
there to avoid that.

That's not a full patch. There is more in src/url.c. gurlchecker can
probably be fixed easily, if someone knows gnet and glib.

But: Upstream hasn't worked on it in years. Its not widely used (low
popcon). The RFA is open for a long time without anybody stepping up.
So its probably not a bad idea to remove the package from Debian.

All is not well with 3.16.5 either: when I create a new account for my

However after quitting evo , that mail account is GONE. This has

Bug#798888: ntfs-3g: pretends to be a library in a broken way

2015-09-13 Thread Jonathan Wiltshire
Package: ntfs-3g
Version: 1:2014.2.15AR.3-3
Severity: serious
Justification: I said so

ntfs-3g ships shared objects in a non-private location and these are used
by other packages. ntfs-3g does not have a proper shared library package.

Currently ntfs-3g advertises its ABI through a virtual package. This makes it
difficult to detect breakage in other packages when that ABI changes.

Upstream appears to want to bump ABI regularly.

ntfs-3g should provide a proper shared library package conforming to
policy §8.1. It would be helpful if the maintainer worked with depending
packages to ensure a smooth transition.

Bug#798882: libmodule-build-perl: change for #797709 breaks (at least) libdevice-cdio-perl build

2015-09-13 Thread Niko Tyni
Package: libmodule-build-perl
Version: 0.421400-2
Severity: serious
User: reproducible-bui...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: ftbfs
X-Debbugs-Cc: reproducible-bui...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Control: affects -1 libdevice-cdio-perl

The libdevice-cdio-perl package fails to build on current sid because
of the libmodule-build-perl change in 0.421400-2 that sorts results of
Module::Build::Base::rscan_dir() [see #797709].

The libdevice-cdio-perl Build.PL contains this:

my $cfiles = $self->rscan_dir('./',qr/\.c$/);

and later it basically looks at the basename of the file and
skips it if one by that name has already been compiled.

Now, the rscan_dir() call finds files like
  ./.pc/07_fix_perl_5.16_ftbfs.patch/perlmmc_wrap.c

and the Module::Build change moves those up on the list so they get
compiled first, spectacularly breaking the build of course. See
  https://reproducible.debian.net/rb-pkg/unstable/amd64/libdevice-cdio-perl.html
for the results.

So the libdevice-cdio-perl build relies on ./perlmmc_wrap.c coming before
./.pc/07_fix_perl_5.16_ftbfs.patch/perlmmc_wrap.c in the rscan_dir()
results, and our change breaks that.

It turns out I was wrong with my patch for #797709 in that I assumed
that the order of the File::Find::find() return list is altogether
undeterministic, while it apparently takes care to process regular files
first and only then recurses into subdirectories. This isn't particularly
well (if at all) documented, but the code (or at least the comments; my
eyes bleed already from the actual code) at

https://sources.debian.net/src/perl/5.20.2-6/ext/File-Find/lib/File/Find.pm/#L763
or thereabouts seems to confirm it.

So we need to sort more smartly, and I don't have patch right now.
I suggest to revert the patch and reopen #797709 for the time being.

Authorising with Twitter does not work, the web view only shows an error
message from Twitter that SSL is required. Obviously Gwibber tries to do
OAuth over plain HTTP, which Twitter does not allow anymore.

Please prepare Gwibber 3.5 to be uploaded to sid once the freeze is
over.

Hi,

Your package includes some files that seem to lack sources
in prefered forms of modification:

ui/templates/jquery.js
ui/themes/ubuntu/jquery.js
ui/themes/simple/jquery.js
ui/themes/gwilouche/jquery.js
ui/themes/flat/jquery.js
ui/themes/default/jquery.js
ui/themes/compact/jquery.js

According to Debian Free Software Guidelines [1] (DFSG) #2:
 "The program must include source code, and must allow distribution
  in source code as well as compiled form."

In some cases this could also constitute a license violation for some
copyleft licenses such as the GNU GPL. (While sometimes the licence
allows not to ship the source, the DFSG always mandates source code.)

In order to solve this problem, you could:
1. add the source files to "debian/missing-sources" directory.
2. repack the origin tarball and add the missing source files to it.

Both way satisfy the requirement to ship all source code. The second option
might be preferable due to the following reasons [2]:
 - Upstream can do it too and you could even supply a patch to them, thus
   full filling our social contract [3], see particularly §2.
 - If source and non-source are in different locations, ftpmasters may
   miss the source and (needlessly) reject the package.
 - The source isn't duplicated in every .diff.gz/.debian.tar.* (though
   this only really matters for larger sources).

You could also ask debian...@lists.debian.org or #debian-qa for more
guidance.

Hi,

gwibber is no longer buildable in experimental because libgtkspell-3-dev

Package: gwibber
Version: 2.91.2-1
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Gwibber bypasses certificate checking when the login/password is
provided, at least to identi.ca.

Here's what I did:

1. Since I revoked Gwibber access for identi.ca a few days ago (by
   mistake: it was listed as an unknown application), I had to
   re-authorize it. For that, I had to provide my login/password.

2. Gwibber still didn't work with identi.ca: Refresh did nothing.

3. With Firefox, I checked on the "Connected applications"
   page that a new application was approved (still listed as
   "Unknown application" BTW, but it could only be Gwibber).
   This means that my login and password were really sent to
   identi.ca.

4. I quit Gwibber.

5. I installed the COMODOHigh-AssuranceSecureServerCA.crt certificate
   as described on:
   http://www.mail-archive.com/ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com/msg2685302.html

6. I restarted Gwibber and did a refresh. It worked!

So, since the needed certificate wasn't installed for Gwibber
(because Refresh didn't work before and worked after its manual
installation) but the login and password had been accepted by
identi.ca before I installed the certificate, this means that
Gwibber didn't do the usual CA certificate checking for the OAuth
part, which is quite critical as this is where the login and
password were sent.

Hi,

Your package depends on python-gtkspell which is about to be removed from the
archive. Please remove the gtkspell support and the dependency from your package
for now. For a longer term solution, your package should be ported to the
GObject Introspection bindings and use gir1.2-gtkspell3-3.0. See [1] for more
details on porting to PyGI.

Thanks,
Emilio

now we get

0m58.5s ERROR: FAIL: silently overwrites files via directory symlinks:

Probably this should fix it (UNTESTED!):

needed for upgrades from jessie)

  symlink_to_dir /usr/share/doc/openexr libopenexr6v5 2.2.0-4~

Dear Maintainer,

When a server is queried for a large number of entries, scli segfaults. I've
seen this on Debian Wheezy and Debian testing, both querying Ubuntu-8.04-LTS

It's had a recent maintainer upload, so it's not really abandoned, but it
seems dead upstream and looks decidedly non-trivial to port away from gnet, so
I'm going to go ahead with the removal.

There's an unreleased patch in the upstream svn to switch to glib [1]. Since
this is easy enough if someone cares to update the package, I'm going to
proceed with the gnet removal without also removing gurlchecker.

This is most probably a transient issue caused by the ongoing GCC 5
transitions. It takes time for alll the libraries to be renamed and all
the dependencies to be rebuilt, and that has not yet happened for
enfuse. Please be patient.

Bug#798870: geany-plugins: FTBFS with libgit2 0.23.1

Indeed. This is due to libgit2 0.23 breaking some API geany-plugins
uses. Upstream added support for it in
http://git.geany.org/geany-plugins/commit/?id=37aa25a1a4508c3d7559c0a2d00663b9c8d322c6,
and it should be trivial and safe to cherry-pick.

Bug#798863: CVE-2015-0853: insecure use of os.system()

2015-09-13 Thread Luke Faraone
Package: svn-workbench
Version: 1.6.8-2.1
Severity: grave
Tags: security upstream
Justification: user security hole

SYNOPSIS:
If a user was tricked into using the "Command Shell" menu item
while in a directory with a specially-crafted name,
svn-workbench would execute arbitrary commands with the
permissions of the user.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
 1. Add "https://github.com/lfaraone/turbulent-octo-garbanzo"; as a
project in svn-workbench
 2. Checkout the project
 3. Navigate to "trunk/$(xeyes)"
 4. Click "Actions", then "Command Shell"

The `xeyes` program (if installed on your system) should start.

Source/wb_shell_unix_commands.py starting at line 53:
def ShellOpen( app, project_info, filename ):
app.log.info( T_('Open %s') % filename )
cur_dir = os.getcwd()
try:

wb_platform_specific.uChdir( project_info.getWorkingDir() )
os.system( "xdg-open '%s'" % filename )
finally:
wb_platform_specific.uChdir( cur_dir )

The code should instead start a subprocess in a secure way, such as
using subprocess.call().

Bug#798862: CVE-2015-0854: Insecure use of system()

2015-09-13 Thread Luke Faraone
Package: shutter
Version: 0.85.1-2
Severity: grave
Tags: security upstream patch
Justification: user security hole
Forwarded: https://bugs.launchpad.net/shutter/+bug/1495163

Using the "Show in folder" menu option while viewing a file with a
specially-crafted path allows for arbitrary code execution with the permissions
of the user running Shutter.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
 1. Put an image in a folder called "$(xeyes)"
 2. Open the image in Shutter
 3. Right-click the image and click "Show in Folder"

The `xeyes` program (if installed on your system) should start.

Lines 54-65 of share/shutter/resources/modules/Shutter/App/HelperFunctions.pm:
sub xdg_open {
my ( $self, $dialog, $link, $user_data ) = @_;
system("xdg-open $link");
return TRUE;
}

Because `system` is used, the string is scanned for shell
metacharacters[1], and if found the string is executed using a shell.

That may be the reason the issue didn't show up on a test system.

> Certainly there is nothing in the latest update which

I just installed the 8.1 -> 8.2 update at once. So any package of
https://www.debian.org/News/2015/20150905 may be the cause. But most likely
there are:
# tail -50 /var/log/aptitude | grep dovecot
[AKTUALISIERUNG] dovecot-core:amd64 1:2.2.13-11 -> 1:2.2.13-12~deb8u1
[AKTUALISIERUNG] dovecot-imapd:amd64 1:2.2.13-11 -> 1:2.2.13-12~deb8u1
[AKTUALISIERUNG] dovecot-ldap:amd64 1:2.2.13-11 -> 1:2.2.13-12~deb8u1
[AKTUALISIERUNG] dovecot-lmtpd:amd64 1:2.2.13-11 -> 1:2.2.13-12~deb8u1
# tail -50 /var/log/aptitude | grep systemd
[AKTUALISIERUNG] libsystemd0:amd64 215-17+deb8u1 -> 215-17+deb8u2
[AKTUALISIERUNG] systemd:amd64 215-17+deb8u1 -> 215-17+deb8u2
[AKTUALISIERUNG] systemd-sysv:amd64 215-17+deb8u1 -> 215-17+deb8u2

I got to see it, because etckeeper told of two new symlinks:
/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/dovecot.service
/etc/systemd/system/sockets.target.wants/dovecot.socket

Your postinst does some systemd stuff:
|if deb-systemd-helper --quiet was-enabled dovecot.socket; then
|# Enables the unit on first installation, creates new
|# symlinks on upgrades if the unit file has changed.
|deb-systemd-helper enable dovecot.socket >/dev/null || true|
|else
|# Update the statefile to add new symlinks (if any), which need to be
|# cleaned up on purge. Also remove old symlinks.
|deb-systemd-helper update-state dovecot.socket >/dev/null || true|
|fi
But that should not raise this issue.

I tried to reproduce the issue on a test system. But as last time, it doesn't
occur there.

This bug was actually a problem in the plugins abi breakage caused by the gcc5
transition, sadly the transition tracker doesn't detect this kind of abi
changes. It has been solved in testing with the migration of kdecoration
4:5.3.2-3:
[2015-08-27] kdecoration 4:5.3.2-3 MIGRATED to testing (Britney)

there bugs are 5 years old, the maintainer hasn't even
bothered commenting on them, the packages has quite low
popcon (~ 300 inst, ~ 20 vote) it doesn't feel
like there's any reason to wait with gnet removal
for these packages which noone cares about.

Regards,
Andreas Henriksson

Bug#782098: openexr, libopenexr-dev: directory vs. symlink conflict: /usr/share/doc/{openexr, libopenexr-dev} -> /usr/share/doc/libopenexr6

2015-09-13 Thread Mathieu Malaterre
Andreas,

Could you please be little more verbose than just:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=782098;msg=41

I have not been able to reproduce your issue using openexr 1.6.1-8.1
-> openexr 2.2.0-3

Thx

Bug#798821: dovecot-core: changed to systemd without documentation

2015-09-13 Thread Jaldhar H. Vyas

On Sun, 13 Sep 2015, Frank Engler wrote:

Package: dovecot-core
Version: 1:2.2.13-12~deb8u1
Severity: serious

Dear Maintainer,

last update introduced /lib/systemd/system/dovecot.socket
and /lib/systemd/system/dovecot.service to handle startup.
Despite the fact customized configuration - especially
/etc/init.d/dovecot - might get ignored and these changes
are within a /stable/ release these changes are not
documented at all.

I'm curious as to which version you upgraded from and could you have
installed anything else which would trigger the use of systemd? systemd
support was added way back in 1:2.1.7 (May-June 2012) and hasn't been
touched since then. Certainly there is nothing in the latest update which
involves it? In your last upgrade did you lose systemd-shim perhaps?

+Subject: Fix a problem properly saving URIs
+
+As written by Martin Kletzander :
+Since commit 8eb55d782a2b9afacc7938694891cc6fad7b42a5, when you parse
+and save an URI that has no server (or similar) part, two slashes
+after the 'schema:' get lost. It means 'uri:///noserver' is turned
+into 'uri:/noserver'.
+
+basically
+   foo:///only/path
+
+means a host of "" while
+
+   foo:/only/path
+
+means no host at all
+
+ So the best fix IMHO is to fix the URI parser to record the first
+case and an empty host string and the second case as a NULL host string
+
+ I would not revert the initial patch, we should not 'invent' those
+slash, but we should instead when parsing keep the information that
+it's a host based path and that foo:/// means the presence of a host
+but an empty one.
+
+Once applied the resulting patch below, all cases seems to be saved
+properly:
+
+thinkpad:~/XML -> ./testURI uri:/noserver
+uri:/noserver
+thinkpad:~/XML -> ./testURI uri:///noserver
+uri:///noserver
+thinkpad:~/XML -> ./testURI uri://server/foo
+uri://server/foo
+thinkpad:~/XML -> ./testURI uri:/noserver/foo
+uri:/noserver/foo
+thinkpad:~/XML -> ./testURI uri:///
+uri:///
+thinkpad:~/XML -> ./testURI uri://
+uri://
+thinkpad:~/XML -> ./testURI uri:/
+uri:/
+thinkpad:~/XML ->
+
+ If you revert the initial patch that last case fails
+
+The problem is that I don't want to change the xmlURI structure to
+minimize ABI breakage, so I could not extend the field. The natural
+solution is to denote that uri:/// has an empty host by making
+the uri server field an empty string which works very well but breaks
+applications (like libvirt ;-) who blindly look at uri->server
+not being NULL to try to reach it !
+Simplest was to stick the port to -1 in that case, instead of 0
+application don't bother looking at the port of there is no server
+string, this makes the patch more complex than a 1 liner, but
+is better for ABI.

Package: libxml2
Version: 2.9.1+dfsg1-5
Severity: normal

Hi,

This currently fails on Jessie (from the libvirt-clients package):

$ virsh -c test:///default uri
test:/default uri

while on Wheezy/Sid it correctly roundtrips the URI:

$ virsh -c test:///default uri
test:///default uri

The reason is that libvirt's virURIFormat invokes xmlSaveURI as shown
here:

http://libvirt.org/git/?p=libvirt.git;a=blob;f=src/util/viruri.c;h=6166c372b048063eebf11a4ba21712784be348d0;hb=HEAD#l252

caused by

0034-xmlSaveUri-incorrectly-recomposes-URIs-with-rootless.patch.

It'd be nice to have this fixed for Jessie since this also breaks
libvirt's testsuite.

Cheers,
 -- Guido

Package: libvirt0

Dear Maintainer,

When asking libvirt to report the URI it misses out two of the
three '/' characters in the URI

eg

  # virsh -c qemu:///session uri
  qemu:/session

This is invalid / broken syntax for the URI. This is possibly
a bug in libxml2, since libvirt delegates its URI formatting
to libxml2

I am unable to reproduce the issue. I've installed vlc, vlc-plugin-pulse and
vlc-plugin-sambda in jessie, marked vlc-data, vlc-plugin-pulse, libvlc5 and
libvlccore5 as hold and upgraded to unstable.

Please provide the output of vlc -vvv until the crash and a backtrace including
symbols (by installing vlc-dbg and liblua5.2-0-dbg).

I'm downgrading the bug until the issue can be reproduced.

Cheers
