Bug#800496: evolution-ews: Unable to store Host URI / OAB URI

2015-09-30 Thread Yusuf Iskenderoglu
Package: evolution-ews
Version: 3.16.3-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

Currently, evolution cannot access EWS anymore and prevents me from using
company mail.

Between 2015-09-25 and 2015-09-28 some packages were updated in
Debian/unstable.
I cannot tell which one is causing the problem. I experimented on downgrading
libsoup, on downgrading
all of the parts of evolution to 3.16.3 (currently, evolution itself has a
different version
than evolution-ews [3.16.5 vs 3.16.3]).
None of them helped.

I assume, it might be related to something deeper in the dconf/dbus/glib
interaction, but for this to find out, I am not technical enough.

The problem is: After that upgrade evolution "lost" the setting of Hosturl in
the source file (in .config/evolution/sources), and is no longer able to store
it. I can enter the URL to exchange web services, I can fetch the OAB Url,
however when storing

a) I am no longer asked for a password
b) I monitored the happening with dbus-monitor and have seen that something is
returning "CredentialsRequired"
c) Evolution first displays "Timeout"
d) Evolution prints to the console "failed to commit changes" due to some dconf
timeout.
e) However, the /usr/lib/dconf/dconf-service is running
f) Using dconf-editor I can see and modify settings in dconf
g) No other gnome-application seems to have a problem

If I retry storing, evolution hangs and needs me to execute killev.
If I try to see what it is trying to open using strace, evolution hangs and
becomes unresponsive requiring me to kill strace.

It also does not help modifying the .config/evolution/sources/xxx.source file
by adding the URLs manually, somehow they are not used when starting evolution.

In the meantime: The company using the Microsoft Exchange Server did not change
the server version, nor
there was a mystical Microsoft Update.

It would be nice if somebody can point me to the right solution.

I agree. I just took over from a former Uploader in the team and did
not wanted to change his scheme but think it is not a good solution.
I'll upload a fixed package in the next couple of days.

You are perfectly right.

Package: plowshare4
Version: 1.0.5-1
Severity: grave
Tags: security

(Rationale for severity grave: introduces a security hole
allowing access to the accounts of users who use the package.
plowshare4 is a command-line tool for downloading files from
cyberlocker-type sites. For some sites, this requires evaluating
snippets of javascript code, to this end the plowshare4 package
depends on rhino, a JVM-based javascript implementation.

According to the rhino documentation, the rhino command-line tool is
capable of loading arbitrary java classes, accessing the filesystem
and executing shell commands
(see https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Projects/Rhino/Shell ).

This has obvious security implications: If the individual plowshare4
download modules are not carefully implemented, a malicious download
site could emit javascript code which causes arbitrary commands to be
run on the user's system. Where the javascript is downloaded via http
rather than https, a malicious 3rd party (man-in-the-middle) could do
the same.

In order to prevent this, the javascript interpreter should be invoked
in such a way that the code is evaluated in a sandbox, i.e. loading
arbitrary java classes, accessing the filesystem and executing shell
commands are not possible. There does seem to be some support for this
in rhino, judging by the documentation
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Projects/Rhino/Overview#Security

Moreover, the javascript code snippets should be filtered to check for
malicious code before being passed to the javascript interpreter;
ideally, any code that doesn't match a specific, known-good pattern
should be rejected.

Until these things have been implemented, I suggest disabling
javascript support in plowshare4 completely to prevent putting users
at risk.

I confirm it fixes the issues seen on ffmpeg, and I guess it might fix
some other issues as well like the protobuf FTBFS. Everything has been
committed in the SVN, so it will be in the next upload.

Package: iceweasel-vimperator
Version: 3.8.2-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

possibly caused by the recent iceweasel update, vimperator 3.8.2-2
stopped working on jessie.
The browser behaves exactly as if vimperator was not installed or not
active.
Purge/re-install does not help.

Workaround: Installing vimperator 3.10.1-1 from testing works for me.

Bug#799140: squeeze update of wordpress?

Hi Craig,

Hello Craig,

I just checked and the security issues reported in #799140 also apply to
the version in jessie, wheezy and squeeze.

Do you plan to prepare updates for those suites?

As usual, the same fixes can be used in wheezy and squeeze since
both suites have version 3.6.1 of the package.

I have marked wordpress as needing an update in squeeze and
if you can't handle it yourself, someone from the LTS team might
pick it up.

Thank you very much.

PS: A member of the LTS team might start working on this update at
any point in time. You can verify whether someone is registered

I (with my Debian LTS Team member hat on) am about to start working on

Hi

See https://wordpress.org/news/2015/09/wordpress-4-3-1/ for details. I
have not checked older versions in jessie and wheezy. Are they
affected? If so can you update the BTS version information as needed?

Regards,
Salvatore

Thanks for this feedback

With the JsSIP move to Node, a lot of dependencies were added and I had
to package all of them, including node-websocket. You can see the
package details for node-websocket here:

https://packages.qa.debian.org/n/node-websocket.html

Debian and Ubuntu only allow one version of each dependency on each
system. To use node-websocket >= 1.0.22 in Debian stable (via
jessie-backports), we will need to either

a) have node-nan >= 2.0.x in jessie-backports, or

b) adapt node-websocket to support both old and new versions of node-nan
using compiler macros, or

c) maybe we could split the package to have a browser-only version that
doesn't need any of this compiled code? That would be less painful to
support.

d) Just take the dist/jssip.js browser-only version and use just that
file for the deb package.

I just noticed that with uhd 3.9.0 libuhd003 lost the v5 suffix that had
been introduced with 3.8.5-2.1.

And the changelog has no explanation for this. So to avoid problems
when upgrading from jessie to stretch, this should be fixed again...

Thank you!

1: Using Breaks in uhd package, listing packages currently in the

uhd 3.9.1-2

2: Tighten libuhd003 dependencies in gnuradio using
override_dh_makeshlibs:

Bug#800566: nvidia-graphics-drivers: CVE-2015-5950 Memory corruption due to an unsanitized pointer in the NVIDIA display driver

2015-09-30 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Source: nvidia-graphics-drivers
Version: 304.22-1
Severity: serious
Tags: security

https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3763

A vulnerability has been found in the NVIDIA driver that could be used
to allow a local, non-privileged user to corrupt kernel memory. This
could be used to gain local root privileges.

A local user can issue a specially crafted IOCTL to write a 32-bit
integer value stored in the kernel driver to a user-specified memory
location, potentially in the kernel address space. The user has a
limited ability to influence the value of the integer that is written.

Exploit Scope and Risk:

This issue is present on Windows and Linux operating systems and affects
all currently supported NVIDIA driver releases and all GPUs. This issue
does not affect Android-based NVIDIA Tegra products.

Unfortunately, pyke is no longer compatible with the newer version of ply
which is in unstable.

It has only a dependant (science-machine-learning), but the dependency will be
removed soon (#799284 for details).

I will wait for the new upload of science-machine-learning and then I will ask
for the removal of pyke from unstable.

Kind regards,

Bug#800574: libc6: lock elision hazard on Intel Broadwell and Skylake

2015-09-30 Thread Henrique de Moraes Holschuh
Package: libc6
Version: 2.19-4
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

Intel Broadwell-H and Skylake-S/H have critical errata that causes HLE
to be extremely dangerous to use on those processors, resulting in
unpredictable behavior (i.e. process crashes when you are lucky, data
corruption when you are not) when hardware lock-elision is enabled in
glibc/libpthread.

Broadwell errata BBD50 (desktop/mobile), BDW50 (server):

An HLE (Hardware Lock Elision) transactional region begins with
an instruction with the XACQUIRE prefix. Due to this erratum,
reads from within the transactional region of the memory
destination of that instruction may return the value that was
in memory before the transactional region began

According to the Intel errata list, a firmware fix is possible, but I
have no idea whether it is done by toggling a boot-locked MSR that
disables HLE, or through a microcode update. The MSR is more likely,
but if it is a microcode update, it is going to be as much of a hazard
as the Haswell one that disabled TSX+HLE.

I recommend that we extend the HLE blacklist in glibc to also include
CPU signature 0x40671. This will disable HLE on Xeon E3-1200v4, and
5th-generation Core i5/i7. These processors are supposed to already
have TSX disabled (errata BBD51/BDW51).

Skylake's latest public specification update still doesn't list any HLE
errata, but it is not really recent. OTOH, there is a Gentoo user's
report that Skylake is also unstable when HLE is enabled in glibc and
that the crashes stop when glibc is compiled without lock elision.

For that reason, it might be a good idea to also blacklist HLE on CPU
signatures 0x506e1, 0x506e2 and 0x506e3, which would disable HLE on
Skylake-S and Skylake-H (6th gen Core i5/i7). This won't cover the
Skylake Xeon E3-1200v5, for which there are no reports of breakage (nor
a public specification update I could find).

In hindsight, it looks like we would have been better off by disabling
lock elision entirely for Debian jessie when we fixed #762195.
Something to consider when the time comes to fix this bug in stable
through a stable update...

Bug#800487: retext crashes with a SIGSEGV

2015-09-30 Thread Erik Haller
My pleasure.

Window Manager: xfce4

dpkg-query -W xfce4 libxcb1-dbg python3-dbg
libxcb1-dbg:i3861.10-3+b1
python3-dbg 3.4.3-4
xfce4 4.12.1

I also had to install the libxcb source.

I executed:

gdb python3 |& tee retext.gdb
...

directory /src/src
...

full bt

Looks like the error is file line number 27 in ../../src/xcb_out.c:160

FYI: Many python libraries were suddenly upgraded after the last day it
worked.

There is not any lintian warning about this and there probably
shouldn't be as many packages ship empty directories in /var.

That's just because numexpr hasn't been rebuilt for the python 3.5 transition
yet, see:

https://release.debian.org/transitions/html/python3.5.html

It should work once that's done.
