Bug#856826: installation-reports: Debian 8.6 installer with encrypted swap creates unusable swap logical volume

2017-03-04 Thread Terry Tibbles
Package: installation-reports
Severity: serious
Justification: ?

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
installing Debian 8.6 from the netinstall disk and confiuring LVM with
encrypted root, swap and var logical volumes. Then, reboot as soon as the
system has booted for the first time.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I've tried re-installing the system several times, deleting all of the
partitions and setting everything up again from scratch. The same problem
applies if you reboot immediately after booting the system for the first time.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
the system boots the first time, and you are prompted for the swap
logical volume password. Then, without making any changes, if you reboot, the
system hangs with an "a start job is running" message, referring to swap. When
this times out, the system boots, but with no swap disk.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
for the system to boot with an encrypted swap, as with Debian 7 (which
I've tried on the same system, sucessfully).

Hi,

I just ACCEPTed golang-github-sergi-go-diff from NEW but noticed it
was missing attribution in debian/copyright for at least some parts
owned by Google, Inc.

(This is not exhaustive so please check over the entire package
carefully and address these on your next upload.)

upgrade openssh-server from jessie (1:6.7p1-5+deb8u3 -> 1:7.3p1-5 -> 1:7.4p1-6)
sliently overwrite unmodifyed config,
that leads to unintented change commented ``AuthorizedKeysFile'' options.

This disallow reading ~/.ssh/authorized_keys2 and break remote login without

Also, how many files and directories do you have under

find /etc/letsencrypt/archive | wc -l
ls /etc/letsencrypt/archive | wc -l

There is a known issue with Certbot performing poorly when many old
certificates are present.

The build logs are publicly available, for this build[1] the versions used were:

binutils_2.25-8
gcc-4.9_4.9.2-19

Bug#856487: pulseaudio: SIGSEGV upon streaming to bluetooth headset

2017-03-04 Thread Linus Lüssing
> Are you sure it's definitely related to the gcc version? Did you actually
> try rebuilding with gcc-4.9 on the target machine?

> The thing is that assembly code is not interpreted by gcc but by the assembler

I didn't try from a chroot, but tried 2.28 as you suggested as
well as a few downgraded versions, which all failed:

binutils 2.28-1 -> not
binutils 2.27.51.20161220-1
binutils 2.27-9 -> not working
binutils 2.26-1 -> not working
binutils 2.26.1-1 -> not working
binutils 2.26-12 -> not working

I also tried downgrading gcc-6, which didn't help either:
gcc 6.0.1-2

What worked then:
* gcc 4.9.4-2 + binutils 2.26.1-1
* gcc 4.9.4-2 + binutils 2.28-1

Not really familiar with how binaries get created or uploaded in
Debian, but is it possible to determine the gcc + binutils
versions with which libsbc 1.3-1 and 1.3-1+b2 were created? Just
to double check whether the official uploads were indeed created
with gcc-4.9 for libsbc 1.3-1 and gcc-5/gcc-6 for 1.3-1+b2?

Regards, Linus

PS: All those tests above just with a plain
"$ CC=gcc-{4.9,6} dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc", so with the default
hardening flags.

Package: compass-slickmap-plugin
Version: 0.5.1.1-4

The recently added patch 2001 had a syntax error - missing quotes around
path string.

This causes Compass to throw this error:

from /usr/bin/compass:21:in `block in '

Fix is to add singlequotes around the path on first line of the patched
file.

I don't think that is written explicitly in the policy, but there seems
to be general understanding that you must be able upgrade from one
package version to the next package version within a suite (unstable,
testing, stable) as well as between suites (oldstable->stable,
stable->testing, testing->unstable). (This may not be true for packages
in experimental, but once the package gets uploaded to unstable ... you
want to be able to upgrade from the previous version in unstable to the
current one).
What is usually not supported are upgrades that skip stable releases
(e.g. upgrading directly from old-oldstable to stable without upgrading
from old-oldstable to oldstable first).

If you disagree, please take this to the tech-ctte.

I didn't touch anything, I'm just doing automated upgrade tests with
piuparts, so all config files are at their defaults.

Use ucf? But you already use this.
Or what do you mean with "making changes in configuration files"?

Having briefly looked at the postinst script, it appears to me that all
the nginx_* variables are not set at all ...

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package failed to install
(in 'jessie'), remove (but not purge), distupgrade to 'stretch',
and install again.
Before the second installation the package is in config-files-remaining
state. The configuration is remaining from the last version that was
successfully configured - which is from the previous release.

Like a plain failure on initial install this makes the package too buggy
for a release, thus the severity.

I only tried once, and it immediately failed. This was in a sid
cowbuilder amd64 chroot. Log attached,

(Besides that I note that the package tries to access the internet
during building; AFAICS it tries to contact a DNS server.)

The script update-debian-edu-artwork-softwaves (shipped with the package
debian-edu-artwork-softwaves) causes it.

This script is triggered after the packages plymouth and desktop-base
have been installed and d-e-artwork is going to be set as default theme,
including the one for plymouth.

No easy way to fix this bug, I guess. IMO the only solution would be to
drop the plymouth configuration from the script mentioned above and to
let cfengine do the job after installation.

IIRC it had been planned to use update-alternatives for the plymouth
theme as well, but it has been too late for desktop-base to implement it
for stretch.

I guess this bug should be addressed to src:debian-edu-artwork.

I (pencil2d maintainer) don't deem pencil2d as good enough to be in a
Debian stable release, so I'd like to see it out of stretch.

I didn't notice until too late, apparently it has grown a rdep!
Could you please drop your dependency on pencil2d?

Bug#856789: education-desktop-other: modifies conffiles (policy 10.7.3): /etc/plymouth/plymouthd.conf

As education-desktop-other is a metapackage simply pulling in other
packages, the cause must be in some other package. I do not really have
any good idea which package it could be.

Could the trigger be installing plymouth with debian-edu-softwaves?

This is not surprising, as these metapackages pull in the same set of
packages as desktop-other.

Also expected, as the metapackages recommends most packages. Only key
packages are depends.

Package: src:gmchess
Version: 0.29.6-2
Severity: normal
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: arm64

The package fails to build on arm64 (aarch64-linux-gnu), because the
config.{guess, sub} files are out of date, and are not updated during
the build. If possible, please do not update these files directly,
but build-depend on autotools-dev instead, and use the tools provided
by autotools-dev to update these files.

  - For dh, call dh --with autotools_dev (yes, underscore).

  - For other rules files, call dh_autotools-dev_updateconfig before
calling configure (in the build or configure target), and call
dh_autotools-dev_restoreconfig before calling dh_clean in the clean
target.

For combining autoreconf and autotools_dev, see bug #698765.

After the build on any architecture, and before a clean, a grep for
aarch64 in the config.sub file(s) should print some lines.

The full build log can be found at:
http://people.debian.org/~doko/logs/arm64-20131027/buildlog_ubuntu-trusty-arm64.gmchess_0.29.6-2_FAILEDTOBUILD.txt
The last lines of the build log are at the end of this report.

Please note that these build were done in an Ubuntu development,
environment there may be a few false positives in these bug reports.

Dear maintainer,

nadoka produces one or more binary packages that depends on ruby1.8,
or it uses ruby1.8 to build. ruby1.8 is unmaintainable at this point,
and we can't keep it for Jessie. We plan to request its removal in 4
weeks.

Recommendations for some common cases:

If your package contains Ruby programs that are hardcoded to use
ruby1.8, you need to port those to a more recent version. Please use
/usr/bin/ruby instead. Please do not change to /usr/bin/ruby1.9.1

If your package calls `ruby1.8` during build, please make it call
`ruby` instead. If your scripts don't work with a newer Ruby, you
need to port them. Please do not change `ruby1.8` to `ruby1.9.1` as
it will require more work later when we want to get rid of ruby1.9.1
(and we will).

If your packages builds binary extensions for ruby1.8, you need to
remove those. Please consider building binary extensions for all
supported Ruby versions. You can get a list of supported Ruby
versions at runtime by build-depending on gem2deb and running

$ dh_ruby --print-supported

I'm flagging this bug as release critical, since it's impossible to
have ruby1.8 in the next release.

If you need advice on the best way to handle your package, please
feel free to get in touch with debian-r...@lists.debian.org

Package: jython
Version: 2.5.3-14
Severity: serious

There is no classpath for the dependencies of jython.jar defined in its
manifest:

$ unzip -p /usr/share/java/jython.jar META-INF/MANIFEST.MF | \
  grep Class-Path
$

This leads to the problem that dependent packages need to specify the
classpath themself, which is difficult since it is not documented in
/usr/share/docs/jython. Also, it requires tracking internal changes of
jython, since some of the dependent jar names are version dependent;
namely antlr3-runtime-3.2.jar, which makes it difficult to handle for
the dependencies over long time (f.e. for backports).

Java policy requires to have the classpath documented. I would ask you
to do this in the manifest (at least for the strong dependencies), since
this makes the usage much easier.

Thank you very much

Best regards

Ole

Bug#856662: xorg: starting X within X without specifying -vt destroys current X session

2017-03-04 Thread Martin

Hello Adrian,

not sure what happened, but something changed the last few days, maybe
due to an update.
(Latest update was small: libpgm-5.2-0 libwxbase3.0-0v5 libwxgtk3.0-0v5
libzmq5 orage. I'm not sure if I had more updates in the meantime)

I've had the described bug, but now I get the same error messages as you
without crashing X on display :0.
Before sending this bug report, I did further tests in virtualbox. The
bug still persists in VirtualBox with guest additions installed. It is
gone in virtualbox _without_ guest additions, and it does not happen on
my host machine anymore.

> You are basically trying to shoot yourself into the foot and you are
> surprised that you get hit.
:) Nice said. Those command has been possible in debian jessie, stretch
behaves different. For example, in jessie I can use vt8...vt12, but not
in stretch. But that is another story ...

Not sure if this is related:
Now, if running several X servers on tty1...tty6 with
xinit xterm -- :1 vt1
...
xinit xterm -- :6 vt6
my desktop session (xfce) on display :0 returns to lightdm login after
some switching between ttys.

Thanks,
Martin

Bug#856606: gitlab: fails to upgrade from 'stretch': nginx example configuration file not found

I thought you need support upgrading between stable to next stable only.
Can you show the relevant policy that says upgrading between versions in
testing has to work?

Did you update /etc/gitlab/gitlab-debian.conf? This happened because a
configuration file has changed. How am I supposed to make changes in
configuration files then?

Bug#856726: sapgui-package: depends on no longer available openjdk-6-jre

2017-03-04 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: sapgui-package
Version: 0.0.10+nmu1
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts

Hi,

sapgui-package has

  Depends: openjdk-6-jre | java5-runtime

but openjdk-6-jre is no longer available and java5-runtime is a virtual
package provided by several packages, so a random one might get
installed.

You should probably switch to

  Depends: default-jre | java5-runtime

Bug#856722: wolf4sdl: fails to install, remove, distupgrade, and install again

2017-03-04 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: wolf4sdl
Version: 1.7+svn262+dfsg1-3
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package failed to install
(in 'jessie'), remove (but not purge), distupgrade to 'stretch',
and install again.
Before the second installation the package is in config-files-remaining
state. The configuration is remaining from the last version that was
successfully configured - which is from the previous release.

Like a plain failure on initial install this makes the package too buggy
for a release, thus the severity.

Patch looks good now. If there are more issues, piuparts will find them
after upload :-)

BTW, this wasn't a recent regression, piuparts had seen this problem for
quite some time already, but I never took the time to file a bug for it ...

Yes, upgrading packages must work. And especially between versions in
testing (which will become relevant if 8.13.11+dfsg-4 migrates to
testing). And later on from stable to stable-pu (in case you need to
apply fixes after the release).

What else would you want to do with a gitlab installation in testing if
upgrading does not work?

Hi,

I just ACCEPTed libbluray from NEW but noticed it was missing
attribution in debian/copyright for at least Oren Ben-Kiki,
Diego Petteno, xine project, etc.

(This is not exhaustive so please check over the entire package
carefully and address these on your next upload.)

What is the command that is running when certbot consumes a lot of memory?

Can you provide the contents of /etc/cron.d/certbot, and
/var/log/letsencrypt.log from a run where certbot consumed a lot of memory?

If you're using the Nginx or Apache configurators, can you provide your
Nginx or Apache configs?
