As I tried to express: I do not agree that the effort to maintain a
symbols file is really needed. I just do so if upstream randomly
changes ABI. Than dh_makeshlibs fails in the packaging step which is a
flag that we need to bump SOVERSION. If you have other means to spot
the need of a SOVERSION bump that's fine.

Yes, exactly that's the point. BTW, sometimes it helps to just have a
*.symbols.amd64 file which is sufficient to detect these changes while
there is no need to fiddle with other architectures which in some cases
might have different symbols and need extra care.

Kind regards and thanks for caring for these packages

  Andreas.

Because the PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN define modifies the API exposed by
Python.h, I think it is better to explicitly define it everywhere
Python.h is included. However, if the reduced version solves the problem
you are seeing, I don't see a reason to insist.

Please note that removing the other two includes is technically also a
bug-fix as those are technically two Python internal header files. I
removed the includes because I am not sure how including those files
directly interacts with the changes to the public API enabled by
PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN. Again, if you don't see any problem, I don't see a
reason to insist.

The patch I proposed has been merged upstream, along with another that
solves another problem in the test suite with Python 3.8 (although I
didn't encounter this second bug in my testing). You may want to base
your package on a more recent (but unreleased) version. Since the 2.2.3
release I see mainly bug-fixes and improvements to the emacs
beancount-mode (which I don't know if you package along with the
application).

Cheers,
Dan

Dear maintainers,

nototools is involved in the Python 2 removal of Debian. Unfortunately, one of
your Build-Depends, python-fonttools has been removed already and currenty
isn't build from source in either unstable or testing. Also (indirect)
dependencies from python-fonttools are not build anymore, python-fs and
python-backports.fs. I fear the only solution is to quickly move to the Python
3 package that you already have prepared in experimental.

Thanks

Paul

Python2 becomes end-of-live upstream, and Debian aims to remove
Python2 from the distribution, as discussed in
https://lists.debian.org/debian-python/2019/07/msg00080.html

Your package either build-depends, depends on Python2, or uses Python2
in the autopkg tests (the specific reason can be found searching this
source package in
https://people.debian.org/~morph/mass-bug-py2removal_take2.txt ).
Please stop using Python2, and fix this issue by one of the following
actions.

- Convert your Package to Python3. This is the preferred option. In
case you are providing a Python module foo, please consider dropping
the python-foo package, and only build a python3-foo package. Please
don't drop Python2 modules, which still have reverse dependencies,
  just document them.

  This is the preferred option.

- If the package is dead upstream, cannot be converted or maintained
in Debian, it should be removed from the distribution. If the
package still has reverse dependencies, raise the severity to
"serious" and document the reverse dependencies with the BTS affects
command. If the package has no reverse dependencies, confirm that
the package can be removed, reassign this issue to ftp.debian.org,
make sure that the bug priority is set to normal and retitle the
issue to "RM: PKG -- removal triggered by the Python2 removal".

- If the package has still many users (popcon >= 300), or is needed to
build another package which cannot be removed, document that by
adding the "py2keep" user tag (not replacing the py2remove tag),
using the debian-pyt...@lists.debian.org user. Also any
dependencies on an unversioned python package (python, python-dev)
must not be used, same with the python shebang. These have to be
replaced by python2/python2.7 dependencies and shebang.

This is the least preferred option.

If there are questions, please refer to the wiki page for the removal:
https://wiki.debian.org/Python/2Removal, or ask for help on IRC
#debian-python, or the debian-pyt...@lists.debian.org mailing list.

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package failed to install. As
per definition of the release team this makes the package too buggy for
a release, thus the severity.

Package: python3-pcapy
Version: 0.11.4-1
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package fails to upgrade from
'stable'.
It installed fine in 'stable', then the upgrade to 'sid' fails
because it tries to overwrite other packages files without declaring a
Breaks+Replaces relation.

See policy 7.6 at
https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html#overwriting-files-and-replacing-packages-replaces

This test intentionally skipped 'testing' to find file overwrite
problems before packages migrate from 'unstable' to 'testing'.

Package: mopidy-doc
Version: 2.3.1-1
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts

Hi,

an upgrade test with piuparts revealed that your package installs files
over existing symlinks and possibly overwrites files owned by other
packages. This usually means an old version of the package shipped a
symlink but that was later replaced by a real (and non-empty)
directory. This kind of overwriting another package's files cannot be
detected by dpkg.

This was observed on the following upgrade paths:

  buster->sid
  buster->bullseye

For /usr/share/doc/PACKAGE this may not be problematic as long as both
packages are installed, ship byte-for-byte identical files and are
upgraded in lockstep. But once one of the involved packages gets
removed, the other one will lose its documentation files, too,
including the copyright file, which is a violation of Policy 12.5:
https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-docs.html#copyright-information

For other overwritten locations anything interesting may happen.

Note that dpkg intentionally does not replace directories with symlinks
and vice versa, you need the maintainer scripts to do this.
See in particular the end of point 4 in
https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#details-of-unpack-phase-of-installation-or-upgrade

It is recommended to use the dpkg-maintscript-helper commands
'dir_to_symlink' and 'symlink_to_dir' (available since dpkg 1.17.14)
to perform the conversion, ideally using d/$PACKAGE.maintscript.
See dpkg-maintscript-helper(1) and dh_installdeb(1) for details.

Bug#947385: openstack-cluster-installer-agent: missing Breaks+Replaces: openstack-cluster-installer (<< 24)

2019-12-25 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: openstack-cluster-installer-agent
Version: 24
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package fails to upgrade from
'testing'.
It installed fine in 'testing', then the upgrade to 'sid' fails
because it tries to overwrite other packages files without declaring a
Breaks+Replaces relation.

See policy 7.6 at
https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html#overwriting-files-and-replacing-packages-replaces

>From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

Hi,

an upgrade test with piuparts revealed that your package installs files
over existing symlinks and possibly overwrites files owned by other
packages. This usually means an old version of the package shipped a
symlink but that was later replaced by a real (and non-empty)
directory. This kind of overwriting another package's files cannot be
detected by dpkg.

This was observed on the following upgrade paths:

  sid -> experimental

This bug is present in several libreoffice-l10n-?? packages
and libreoffice-help-common. Maybe also in more packages
depending on these failing ones since they cannot be tested.

Package: linux-base
Version: 4.6
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi.

Since last April, the package can't be upgraded as it conflicts with
the current version of kernel-common.

Would be nice if this could be resolved.

Probably it's this change:
  * Take over kernel-img.conf(5) manual page from kernel-common

 ▒
(Closes: #925415)

 ▒
but then this should be reflected in kernel-common, or it should have
been coordinated with its maintainer in the first place.

Cheers,
Chris.

Manoj suggested that the kernel team should take over kernel-img.conf,
and I prepared updates to both linux-base and kernel-package (see <
https://salsa.debian.org/benh/kernel-package>). However I never got a
response from him as to whether he or I should upload kernel-package.

I suppose I should just go ahead and do that now.

Ben.

It is easier to change the specification to fit the program
than vice versa.

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package fails to upgrade from
'testing'.
It installed fine in 'testing', then the upgrade to 'sid' fails
because it tries to overwrite other packages files without declaring a

Hi,

dpdk/experimental FTBFS during the indep-only build. (Both arch+indep
and arch-only work fine.) This was not observed on the buildds due to
the arch+indep maintainer upload (probably needed for NEW processing).

mesa doesn't seem to be building Vulkan drivers on mipsel, but the
Architecture field of mesa-vulkan-drivers says it should be:

This might be because mipsel is present in the list of architectures where
LLVM is enabled (confflags_GALLIUM += -Dllvm=true etc.), and is present in
the list of architectures where the Vulkan loader is enabled
(confflags_VULKAN += -Dvulkan-overlay-layer=true), but is absent from the
list of architectures where VULKAN_DRIVERS += amd, despite that list being
documented as "only build on the subset of arches where we have LLVM enabled
and where the Vulkan loader is built".

Python2 becomes end-of-live upstream, and Debian aims to remove
Python2 from the distribution, as discussed in
https://lists.debian.org/debian-python/2019/07/msg00080.html

Your package either build-depends, depends on Python2, or uses Python2
in the autopkg tests (the specific reason can be found searching this
source package in
https://people.debian.org/~morph/mass-bug-py2removal_take3.txt ).

Bug#937617: Debdiff, and NMU with DELAYED/7

2019-12-25 Thread Thomas Goirand
Hi,

Here's the proposed NMU debdiff. I'm uploading it to delayed/7 since the
bug has been opened for so long, there's no reverse dependency for the
py2 only package, and the package will be AUTORM in 22 days.

Cheers,

Bug#947367: lebiniou breaks lebiniou-data arm64 autopkgtest: ALSA lib confmisc.c:767:(parse_card) cannot find card '0'

Dear maintainers,

With a recent upload of lebiniou the autopkgtest of lebiniou-data fails
in testing on when that autopkgtest is run with the binary packages of
lebiniou from unstable. It passes when run with only packages from
testing. In tabular form:
   passfail
lebiniou from testing3.32-1
lebiniou-data from testing3.28-2
all others from testingfrom testing

I copied some of the output at the bottom of this report.

Currently this regression is blocking the migration of lebiniou to
testing [1]. Due to the nature of this issue, I filed this bug report
against both packages. Can you please investigate the situation and
reassign the bug to the right package?

Dear Daniele,

Thanks for the patch.

I adapted it a little to reduce it's volume:

https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/applications/beancount/blob/debian/master/debian/patches/0003-parser-Work-around-python3.8-bug-causing-a-segmentat.patch

The #define PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN was in both parser.h and parser.c, and the
removal of the two other includes seems out of scope for this bugfix
IMO.

Is it fine with you?

Cheers!

Hi,

Probably a direct Build-Depends: libxcb-randr0-dev is now needed while
this was previously pulled by some other B-D.

Python2 becomes end-of-live upstream, and Debian aims to remove
Python2 from the distribution, as discussed in

Your package either build-depends, depends on Python2, or uses Python2
in the autopkg tests. Please stop using Python2, and fix this issue
by one of the following actions.

- Convert your Package to Python3. This is the preferred option. In

This is the least preferred option.

If the conversion or removal needs action on another package first,
please document the blocking by using the BTS affects command, like

  affects + src:pytest-mock

If there is no py2removal bug for that reverse-dependency, please file
a bug on this package (similar to this bug report).

If there are questions, please refer to the wiki page for the removal:
https://wiki.debian.org/Python/2Removal, or ask for help on IRC

Package: cubicsdr
Severity: normal

Hi,

Your package appears to be using the wxWidgets GTK 2 implementation. In
Debian, we have had a GTK 3 implementation of wxWidgets for some time.
For the bullseye release, the wxWidgets package maintainers plan to
remove the GTK 2 version, so we kindly request that you switch your
package to use the GTK 3 version. We have a transition tracker [1]
setup to track progress.

Switching to the GTK 3 version may be as simple as:
1) Update your Build-Depends
   libwxgtk3.0-dev -> libwxgtk3.0-gtk3-dev
   libwxgtk-media3.0-dev -> libwxgtk-media3.0-gtk3-dev
2) Rebuild
3) Test

If everything seems to be working fine, that's probably all you need to do.

There are a couple of known issues:
1) If your package uses wxGLCanvas, this doesn't currently work when running
under Wayland. As a workaround, you can force use of X. See bug: [2]
2) If your package uses graphics contexts, it may encounter a problem with
coordinate overflow. See bug: [3]

If you have any questions, or need assistance with the conversion, please
contact the wxWidgets team, team...@tracker.debian.org.

Package: python-pyqt5.qtwebengine
Version: 5.11.3+dfsg-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

Unknown

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

Apt-get dist-upgrade -> uninstall calibre and install puthon-qt5 packages
Work around: apt-get upgrade and leave rest of the packages at old level.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

Apt-get dist-upgrade wants to uninstall calibre as it wants to upgrade
python-gt5 packages and this package isn't available in raspbian.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Correct upgrade of all installed packages, including calibre.

Calibre upgrad e would be from 4.0.0+really3.48.dfsg-1 to 4.6.0+dfsg-1

This is probably a raspbian only issue or a calibre dependency that should
be fixed.

Qt WebEngine itself is not available for Raspbian.

There is nothing I can do about this in Debian, you should discuss this with
Raspbian maintainers.

Yeah, the C++ symbols generated are the mangled versions. You need to
unmangle them by piping the generated file through c++filt, and then add
the (c++) prefix to tell dpkg-gensymbols about this. The
UsingSymbolsFiles [1] page has a practical example on the bottom.

The c++filt(1) and dpkg-gensymbols(1) man pages have theoretical
background on this, but TBH, I don't think it's needed.

There are voices that say that symbols files for C++ libraries are
overly hard to maintain, but in case of this specific upstream, I didn't
have a negative experience, and it did help me detect breaking changes a
few times.

Bug#936924: Moving libsvm to Debian Science team

2019-12-25 Thread Chen-Tse Tsai
Thanks Andreas and Christian for the updates/comments. I agree that I
should have been more verbose in the changelog. I'm tracing all the commits
to learn more about packaging. I was playing with gbp for updating
upstream. I really like how it works with git! No worries, my time was not
wasted anyway.

I talked to Christian briefly about the symbol file. He added one for
liblinear4. I have a question about this file. The symbol file I generated
looks a bit different from liblinear4.symbols, in which several lines start
with (c++) and contain the exact parameters. I couldn't figure out how to
make dpkg-gensymbols produce this.

Thanks,
Chen-Tse

I admit I did not considered it overly harsh. My upload was in fact not
the best idea and your response just reflected it.

> Apologies.

Thanks but from my point of view not needed. Everything is fine at my
side and as I said I'll now leave the issue to you who are more
comfortable with that package. Something that came to my mind later:
When upstream does not mark SOVERSIONs: In this case I usually add a
symbols file. Thats more maintenance burden but usually helps to spot
issues with ABI changes.

Kind regards

   Andreas.

Dear Maintainers,

I propose that we stop shipping the python2 file which in fact is
part of build system for a PDF, and ship the actual PDF book in
the package instead. How do you find this approach?

An NMU patch is attached and I've tested it using sbuild.

It may not be a bug in src:geopandas (if it disappears using a fixed

Dear maintainers,

The grantlee5 package fails to build with the version of Qt in experimental,
5.12.4. This was discovered because Ubuntu also has Qt 5.12.4 in its devel
series, so grantlee5 5.1.0-2.1 has failed to build on all architectures:

I don't know why the behavior of Qt has changed, but this will eventually
become a serious bug on grantlee5 in unstable once Qt is updated there.

 grantlee5 (5.2.0-1) experimental; urgency=medium
 .
   * New upstream release:
 - fixes build with Qt 5.12 (Closes: #939362)
   * Update watch file to the new download location, and allow xz as format.
   * Switch Vcs-* fields to salsa.debian.org.
   * Add the configuration for the CI on salsa.
   * Update the build dependencies according to the upstream build system:
 - bump cmake to 3.5
 - remove libboost-dev, and qtscript5-dev, no more required
 - add qtdeclarative5-dev
   * Update the patches:
 - datatime-fractional.diff: drop, fixed upstream
   * Add Build-Depends-Package in symbols files.
   * Bump the debhelper compatibility to 12:
 - switch the debhelper build dependency to debhelper-compat 12
 - remove debian/compat
 - remove --parallel for dh, as now done by default
 - switch from dh_install to dh_missing for --fail-missing
 - drop the dh_makeshlibs override, as:
   - -V is done by default
   - plugins are no more misdetected as shared libraries, and thus no need
 to manually exclude them
   * Drop the migration from grantlee5-dbg, no more needed after two Debian
 stable releases.
   * Bump Standards-Version to 4.4.1, no changes required.
   * Mark the library packages as Multi-Arch: same.
   * Remove the , and lcov build dependencies, as they are not used

Bug#947352: python-pyqt5.qtwebengine: No install candidate in raspbian stretch/buster/bullseye/sid

2019-12-25 Thread Jan Huijsmans
Package: python-pyqt5.qtwebengine
Version: 5.11.3+dfsg-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

Unknown

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

Apt-get dist-upgrade -> uninstall calibre and install puthon-qt5 packages

This is probably a raspbian only issue or a calibre dependency that should
be fixed.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the build failures came directly from
buildds, so I would expect then to be ok.

Cheers, Lisandro.

Bug#945920: Chromium segfaults - analysis and binary hotfix

2019-12-25 Thread Stefan Bühler
Hi.

Thanks for the hint with reproducing it via the Task Manager, makes
debugging a lot easier :)

So the problem is `task_manager::TaskManagerImpl::Refresh()` calling
`memory_instrumentation::MemoryInstrumentation::GetInstance()` and using the
returned pointer without checking it; but is is `NULL`; this is what the
segfault in
`memory_instrumentation::MemoryInstrumentation::RequestPrivateMemoryFootprint()`
(0x55...f87; dereferencing `this` from register `rdi`) is about.

(gdb) frame 1
(gdb) disassemble /r
Dump of assembler code for function
_ZN12task_manager15TaskManagerImpl7RefreshEv:
...
   0x591ba757 <+39>:41 80 bd 99 01 00 00 00 cmpb $0x0,0x199(%r13)

/usr/lib/chromium/chromium
  0x60922000 0x6098b0000x69000 0xb3cd000
/usr/lib/chromium/chromium

So for a hotfix I changed the `je` at `+47` into `jne`; this negates
the check for `!waiting_for_memory_dump_` in
https://github.com/chromium/chromium/blob/master/chrome/browser/task_manager/sampling/task_manager_impl.cc#L603
and should make it never use that block.

The offset of `0f 84` in the file is:
0x591ba75f - 0x4000 = 0x3C6675F

To patch it to `0f 85`:

$ cp -a /usr/lib/chromium/chromium /usr/lib/chromium/chromium-pre-patched
$ printf '3C66760: 85\n' | xxd -r -  /usr/lib/chromium/chromium
$ sha1sum /usr/lib/chromium/chromium*
036f623e158cffaa91be63df307bb2eda4d359e1 /usr/lib/chromium/chromium
5056c781602f4bbd41f06b3bd1940b6edbd7dc8c /usr/lib/chromium/chromium-pre-patched

cheers,
Stefan

  * Secure URI in copyright format
  * Remove trailing whitespace in debian/changelog
  * Remove trailing whitespace in debian/control
  * Remove trailing whitespace in debian/copyright
  * Trim trailing whitespace.
  * Use secure URI in Homepage field.
  * Fix day-of-week for changelog entry 2.91-1.
  * Use Files-Excluded to exclude Windows binaries

I intended to help by recommending some automatic procedure
that fixes a lot of lintian issues.

Sorry about this. I should not have uploaded.

I agree and will not rush without coordination with this package.

Kind regards

   Andreas.

Bug#936924: Moving libsvm to Debian Science team

Andreas, what are you doing?

24 files changed, but debian/changelog only contains two entries.
Nothing about changes to debhelper compat level, patches, etc. It would
have been far more helpful to Chen-Tse (and thus to the team) to supply
feedback on this.

Looking at Salsa, you also imported the new upstream version 3.24 an
hour ago, something that Chen-Tse said just before that he would be
working on? Is he wasting his time now?

Furthermore, I indicated previously that after 3 years, we will almost
certainly need a transition (upstream's versioning does not reflect
SOVER. We arrived at liblinear4 from liblinear1 entirely from Debian
builds discovering backwards-incompatible changes). Did you check this
before updating to 3.24?

Can you please not rush things like this? This package has been sitting
there for 3 years, a few Christmas Holiday days more or less will not
make a difference. I (who happens to maintain another package by the
same upstream) offered to help from the 27th; this could have waited
until then and would have profited from doing so.

Bug#947346: Useless in Debian

2019-12-25 Thread David Prévot
Package: php-fig-link-util
Version: 1.1.0-1
Severity: serious

[ Filled as an RC-bug by the maintainer to see the package auto-removed
  from testing. ]

I packaged php-fig-link-util as used by symfony, but symfony does not
use is anymore (it contains php-symfony-web-link that also provide
php-psr-link-implementation). There is a priori little point to ship
php-fig-link-util in the next stable Debian release.

I intend to follow up with an RM request in a few months if nobody
objects (but feel free to beat me to it).

Regards

David
