Thanks for your report!

I tried 0.3.3-6 locally, and can download latest 11.0.3 TBB without issue.
Of course I can upload a backports version, but I guess it will be the
same on your side.

Maybe you can clean up ~/.local/share/torbrowser/ folder and try again.

Compiling libzim/wrapper.pyx because it depends on
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/Cython/Includes/libcpp/string.pxd.
[1/1] Cythonizing libzim/wrapper.pyx

This seems to be the issue, it is running Cython during the clean step,
which dirties source tree, ironic. I codesearched and found that other
packages modify setup.py to skip cythonize during clean and other steps,
e.g. https://github.com/Unidata/cftime/issues/91. Will work on a patch
for this and upstream it.

[This bug is not targeted to the upcoming bullseye release]

Please keep this issue open in the bug tracker for the package it
was filed for. If a fix in another package is required, please
file a bug for the other package (or clone), and add a block in this
package. Please keep the issue open until the package can be built in
a follow-up test rebuild.

The package fails to build in a test rebuild on at least amd64 with
gcc-11/g++-11, but succeeds to build with gcc-10/g++-10. The
severity of this report will be raised before the bookworm release,
so nothing has to be done for the bullseye release.

The full build log can be found at:
http://people.debian.org/~doko/logs/20210228/filtered/gcc11/asmjit_0.0~git20201108.4b13f71-1_unstable_gcc11.log
The last lines of the build log are at the end of this report.

To build with GCC 11, either set CC=gcc-11 CXX=g++-11 explicitly,
or install the gcc, g++, gfortran, ... packages from experimental.

  apt-get -t=experimental install g++

Common build failures are new warnings resulting in build failures with
-Werror turned on, or new/dropped symbols in Debian symbols files.
For other C/C++ related build failures see the porting guide at
http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-11/porting_to.html

GCC 11 defaults to the GNU++17 standard. If your package installs
header files in /usr/include, please don't work around C++17 issues
by choosing a lower C++ standard for the package build, but fix these
issues to build with the C++17 standard.

Hi,

The package libformula uses debhelper with a compat level of 5 or 6,
which is deprecated and scheduled for removal[1].

Please bump the debhelper compat at your earliest convenience
/outside the freeze/!

  * Compat 13 is recommended (supported in stable-backports)

  * Compat 7 is the bare minimum

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT the release team *DOES NOT* accept uploads
with compat bumps during the freeze.

If there is any risk that the fix for this bug might not migrate to
testing before 2021-01-01[3] then please postpone the fix until after
the freeze.

At the time of filing this bug, compat 5 and 6 are expected to be
removed "some time during the development cycle of bookworm".

Thanks,
~Niels

[3] The choice of 2021-01-01 as a "deadline" is set before the actual
freeze deadline to provide a safe cut off point for most people.

Mind you, it is still your responsibility to ensure that the upload
makes it into testing even if you upload before that date.

I wanted to do this, but could it be that this version is for some
reason taking much more space than the previous one?  Here I have
~40 GB

free, and v96 built just fine (though I wasn't looking when it was
running), but now this failed already twice due to ENSPC.

I'll try looking for someplace more spacy but it's odd :)

Yeah, I think it's the debugging info; it's also breaking lld. It's
a result of enabling official build, I'm working on it.

In debian/rules, along with is_official_build=true, you can set
symbol_level=#. With is_official_build=false (which is the way it
used to build), it used level 0. The default for
is_official_build=true is level 2, which results in a lot more space
(it used 50gb on my last build) and also means I run out of ram
linking the final chrome binary on my 8gb build machine.

I'm not sure what we should use, as I'm not sure if 0 will break any
of the dbgsym packaging yet. I'm currently trying a build with
symbol_level=1.

Fedora doesn't set it, and instead manually patches BUILD.gn to -g0.
Ungoogled-chromium sets it to 1. Arch sets it to 0 if strip is set.
Mint sets it to 0.

Here's (sid) binaries with symbol_level=0, if anyone would like to
test them out: https://people.debian.org/~dilinger/chromium/.

Btw, https://salsa.debian.org/dilinger/chromium/-/tree/stable is my
branch with cleaned-up commits. That's what I'll use for the NMU, which
I'm preparing now.

Bug#1000234: marked as pending in lintian

2022-01-09 Thread Felix Lechner
Control: tag -1 pending

Hello,

Bug #1000234 in lintian reported by you has been fixed in the
Git repository and is awaiting an upload. You can see the commit
message below and you can check the diff of the fix at:

https://salsa.debian.org/lintian/lintian/-/commit/c39ee6ca53e0c761b6e124792c7941fd87f6e107

Tolerate multiarch acceptors in prerequisites for Debhelper commands and
addons. (Closes: #1000234)

This fixes the issue reported here and in the cloned Bug#999810, although for
the wrong reason. Lintian currently assumes that prerequisites are met when the
unrestricted declared prerequisites imply, or satisfy, a particular requirement.

In the present situation, Lintian replaces the :native multiarch acceptor on
python3-sphinx with :any (no restrictions!) and compares it with the weakest
assertion we can make about prerequisites, which is also :any. Hey, presto!

That logic is flawed and will be fixed in additional commits in the near future.

The offending hint in cmake is now gone even if the preceeding commit is
reverted. Please note the comment about that in the preceeding commit.

Thanks to Timo Röhling for bringing the matter to our attention!

Bug#1003405: misses dependency on python3-pmw

2022-01-09 Thread Stuart Prescott
Control: severity -1 wishlist
Control: retitle -1 consider devendoring pmw module

The bkchem package is functional without a separate python3-pmw package as it
is carrying its own vendored version of pmw:

$ dpkg -L bkchem|grep -i pmw
/usr/share/bkchem/bkchem/Pmw.py
/usr/share/bkchem/bkchem/PmwBlt.py
/usr/share/bkchem/bkchem/PmwColor.py

Bundling pmw into the application is one of the intended modes of use of this
module, with the pmw sources including a "bundlepmw.py" script that generates
the files included in bkchem.

For bkchem we can then either:

1. carefully check through the quite large divergence between pmw upstream and
bkchem's vendored version of pmw (some 41 commits in bkchem git)
2. package python3-pmw
3. wait for it to go through NEW
4. devendor pmw (note that is not just a matter of deleting the files)
5. depend on the python3-pmw package instead

or

1. do nothing to bkchem. (that doesn't preclude updating python3-pmw for
#886617 anyway, just that bkchem wouldn't use it)

There is one other potential user of a python3-pmw package in Debian and that
is the auto-07p package. Like bkchem, the auto-07p git history shows
modification of the bundled pmw making devendoring hard.

regards

I wanted to do this, but could it be that this version is for some
reason taking much more space than the previous one?  Here I have
~40 GB

free, and v96 built just fine (though I wasn't looking when it was
running), but now this failed already twice due to ENSPC.

I'll try looking for someplace more spacy but it's odd :)

Yeah, I think it's the debugging info; it's also breaking lld. It's a
result of enabling official build, I'm working on it.

In debian/rules, along with is_official_build=true, you can set
symbol_level=#. With is_official_build=false (which is the way it used
to build), it used level 0. The default for is_official_build=true is
level 2, which results in a lot more space (it used 50gb on my last
build) and also means I run out of ram linking the final chrome binary
on my 8gb build machine.

I'm not sure what we should use, as I'm not sure if 0 will break any
of the dbgsym packaging yet. I'm currently trying a build with
symbol_level=1.

Fedora doesn't set it, and instead manually patches BUILD.gn to -g0.
Ungoogled-chromium sets it to 1. Arch sets it to 0 if strip is set.
Mint sets it to 0.

Here's (sid) binaries with symbol_level=0, if anyone would like to test
them out: https://people.debian.org/~dilinger/chromium/.

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package fails to upgrade from

It installed fine in 'testing', then the upgrade to 'sid' fails

Hi Sandro

I _think_ the closed bugs (#1001283 was merged with 6 others) only cover
the cases where the FTBFS tracebacks showed nbconvert (rather than
direct import of mistune). I haven't admittedly tried rebuilding them
all, but given the failure mode, I think the bug was correctly merged
and they're likely to be fixed.

* #1002371 python-fluids
* #1002373 python-fabio
* #1002374 silx
* #1002375 mdtraj
* #1002383 pyswarms
* #1002790 statsmodels

The main tracking bug for mistune (#1001591) should still be open, along
with related bugs for packages which imported mistune directly (#1002163
python-m2r, #1002254 lookatme, #1002380 python-matrix-nio).

Am I missing anything else which was wrongly closed?

Hi,

there is finally a bkchem version ported to python 3 and it has already been
packaged. However, it requires the update pf pmw to version 2.1
(https://pypi.org/project/Pmw-py3/).

This would close a lot of open bug reports, and maybe even allow the final
removal of python2.

Should we prepare an NMU?

Dear maintainer,

We're in the process of transitioning to php8.1 (see bug #976811). As
part of that, the default PHP in experimental has been switched to 8.1.
The pseudo excuses [1] show that the autopkgtest of
phpmyadmin-sql-parser fails with PHP8.1 with the error pasted below. To
my eye, the failure seems to be only a bug in the test, not in the
installed binary. Please fix the autopkgtest to support PHP8.1.

bkchem requires the pmw module. But it ships neither a dependency on
python3-pmw, nor has python3-pmw been uploaded to the archive yet.

There is a working module though:
https://pypi.org/project/Pmw-py3/

i think you closed *all* the mistune bugs by doing this. can you
reopen the ones not affecting nbconvert so that we dont lose track of

Do you know if this error is due to qtfeedback5-dev package itself? In another
package that I am trying to build (not in archive yet)
is choking with similar errors.
Since you maintain both hfd-service (which has the above bug report) and
qtfeedback5-dev, I wonder if you have some ideas?

Do let us know.

Package: python3-nbconvert
Version: 6.1.0-1
Severity: serious
Justification: FTBFS
Control: affects -1 src:mistune

setup.py for nbconvert declares the requirement
'mistune>=0.8.1,<2'

The upper bound is not enforecd in the debian packaging.

In this case it actually matters. mistune 2.0.0 has just been
uploaded, and nbconvert fails against it,
e.g. debci
https://ci.debian.net/data/autopkgtest/testing/amd64/n/nbconvert/17364189/log.gz

or using sphinx to build docs
e.g. rebuilding nbconvert:

Hi,

The following vulnerability was published for node-shell-quote.

CVE-2021-42740[0]:
| The shell-quote package before 1.7.3 for Node.js allows command
| injection. An attacker can inject unescaped shell metacharacters
| through a regex designed to support Windows drive letters. If the
| output of this package is passed to a real shell as a quoted argument
| to a command with exec(), an attacker can inject arbitrary commands.
| This is because the Windows drive letter regex character class is
| {A-z] instead of the correct {A-Za-z]. Several shell metacharacters
| exist in the space between capital letter Z and lower case letter a,
| such as the backtick character.

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the
CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) id in your changelog entry.

Dear maintainer,

Your package does not include build-arch and/or build-indep targets in
debian/rules. This is required by Debian Policy section 4.9, since 2012.
https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-source.html#main-building-script-debian-rules

Please note that this is also a sign that the packaging of this software
could benefit from a refresh. For example, packages using 'dh' cannot be
affected by this issue.

This mass bug filing was discussed on debian-devel@ in
https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2021/11/msg00052.html .
The severity of this bug will be changed to 'serious' after a month.

Best,

Well, having participated to writing some documentation, I am not sure
that this number of differences is that vast. Mistune, on itself, was
not that big a project in terms of features, and getting a grip on the
new version should not take that much time.

Okay, lets go with 3 months from Jan the 15th so April the 15th. If
things seem to go faster than expected I will maybe contract that
schedule. (let's say if two thirds of the deps are up-to-date upstream
on March the 1st I'll come back to the initial schedule)

Would that make sense for you?

Ah right, I never used it, it's about time. :)

Thanks!

I fully agree - also with the other points made by Sandro (which he
phrased better than I imagine I could have done!)

There's a new upstream release. I can do both at the same time.

Bug#999272: libxml-tokeparser-perl: missing required debian/rules targets build-arch and/or build-indep

Since the package needed quite a few changes to bring it up to modern
packaging standards, I've done so under the Perl team umbrella as those
changes are unsuitable for an NMU.

Please join the team and help maintain the package there:

  https://perl-team.pages.debian.net/

The packaging can be found on Salsa:

https://salsa.debian.org/perl-team/modules/packages/libxml-tokeparser-perl/

Besides fixing this issue by using dh sequencer with a more recent
compat level, it also modernizes the other packaging like
copyright-format 1.0, watch version 4, and Standards-Version 4.6.0.
Autopkgtests are added via the autopkgtest-pkg-perl.

These changes have been uploaded to DELAYED/7 per the Package Salvaging
process.

Could you drop that restriction or is it really broken with higher
versions?

They're conservative with their official releases. From
scipy/pyproject.toml: "This to prevent that a future
backwards-incompatible release will break the source build of a SciPy
release.".

It's more relevant for local user pip builds in a virtualenv, keeping
the virtualenv constrained to known-good package versions.

It's not so crucial for Debian since we maintain our own package
self-consistency.  In fact the upper bound is only applied upstream to
the release versions. The development version has no upper bound
(still set at "pybind11>=2.4.3")

So it should be safe to remove the upper bound for us.  It's a pity
apt-rdepends doesn't support reverse build-dependencies yet, it would
make it simpler to keep track of these things when testing new releases.

Dear maintainer,

Your package does not include build-arch and/or build-indep targets in
debian/rules. This is required by Debian Policy section 4.9, since 2012.
https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-source.html#main-building-script-debian-rules

Please note that this is also a sign that the packaging of this software
could benefit from a refresh. For example, packages using 'dh' cannot be
affected by this issue.

This mass bug filing was discussed on debian-devel@ in
https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2021/11/msg00052.html .
The severity of this bug will be changed to 'serious' after a month.

Best,

Changes:
 discover (2.1.2-10) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   * Modernize packaging a little:
  - Switch from debhelper 8 to debhelper 13.
  - Delete CONFIGURE_PCMCIA support from debian/rules entirely
(commented out for 15+ years).
  - Delete VERSION and ARCH variables from debian/rules (unused).
  - Switch from manual debian/rules to a dh-based one. Stick to an
out-of-tree build (relocated from builddeb/ to build/ though,
given udeb building is long gone), since in-tree building breaks.
  - Switch from dh_movefiles to dh_install (moving from debian/*.files
to debian/*.install).
  - Make discover.install handle the move from /usr/bin/discover to
/sbin/discover (instead of doing that manually from debian/rules).
  - Unhardcode individual header and documentation filenames from
libdiscover-dev.install.
  - Unhardcode exact library version (use to the SONAME), and insert a
wildcard for the multiarch directory in both libdiscover2.install
and libdiscover-dev.install.
  - Disable test suite entirely for the time being (it wasn't run
previously, and it seems broken anyway).
  - Configure dh_missing for the few files that aren't shipped.
  - Clean generated aclocal.m4 (via dh_clean).
   * This fixes the missing mandatory build-* targets (Closes: #999249).
