Bug#492488: Reproduction of the Iceweasel crashes.
I removed the empty folder: /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9/chrome/ and made the symbolic link: ln -s ../../share/xulrunner-1.9/chrome /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9/chrome and iceweasel runs!!! I really think iceweasel should not crash this way for a missing folder but give an error at the console at least of the missing files. I also think iceweasel installation should check this issue and proceed with your fix as I think we are not the only ones having this problem. Bug#489726: should numpy be built with atlas?
On Mon, Jul 7, 2008 at 2:12 PM, Matthias Klose <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Package: python-numpy > Version: 1:1.1.0-2 > Severity: serious > > python-numpy now has an unconditional dependency on libatlas3gf-base, > needing the "specialized" atlas libraries as a runtime > dependency. Users still should have the option to use the standard > blas and lapack libs instead of the untested/unmaintained atlas > libraries in debian. The problem is that the new (>1.0) numpy building system needs ATLAS at compile time to enable fast matrix-multiplication. If ATLAS is not found at compile time, numpy.core._dotblas.so is not built and slow matrix multiplication is used even if the end user has ATLAS installed. In the old numpy _dotblas.so was always compiled using refblas and the end user would still have had the option of using ATLAS. I'm not sure I understand why ATLAS is now needed at compile time, but look here: http://scipy.org/scipy/numpy/ticket/667 and here: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=464784 I think python-numpy should stay as it is now and a bug-wishlist should be reported to the atlas package to encourage packaging of the new stable version (3.8.2). Filing a ticket on numpy trac may help, but the fate of ticket 667 seems to indicate that there's no will of fixing this bug upstream... thank you, tiziano -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#457044: My box didn't reboot after upgrading linux-image-2.6.18-4-686
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-4-686 Version: linux-image-2.6.18-4-686 2.6.18.dfsg.1-12etch2 Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system This morning, as usual I did : apt-get update apt-get upgrade today, there was a security update on linux-image-2.6.18-4-686 I followed the given instructions : >You are attempting to install a kernel version that is the same as the version >you are currently running (version 2.6.18-4-686). >The modules list is quite likely to have been changed, and the modules >dependency file /lib/modules/2.6.18-4-686/modules.dep needs to be re-built. >It can not be built correctly right now, since the module list for the running >kernel are likely to be different from the kernel installed. >I am creating a new modules.dep file, but that may not be correct. It shall be >regenerated correctly at next reboot. > ? > >I repeat: you have to reboot in order for the modules file to be created >correctly. Until you reboot, it may be impossible to load some modules. > Reboot as soon as this install is finished (Do not reboot right now, since > you may not be able to boot back up until installation is over, but boot > immediately after). >I can not stress that too much. You need to reboot soon. So I rebooted my machine (a distant one) And then... nothing else. My production server never came up until now. I asked to my hosting provider an electrical reboot as I had no way to act, but the machine didn't boot. As it's a distant server, I can't tell you what error messages it can show. The only thing I can provide is the listing of the session from the apt-get upgrade command to the reboot command I'll send it in a next post Of course, I'm not sending this report for the concerned server, as at the moment it's dead, but from a local test box with a very similar configuration -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4-686 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) (ignored: LC_ALL set to [EMAIL PROTECTED]) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- Ce message a été vérifié par MailScanner pour des virus ou des polluriels et rien de suspect n'a été trouvé. I've found a workaround : I started iceape on profile manager, created a new profile, then started with this profile without any problem, then I restarted with my previous profile, which worked without problem, so I removed the new profile and now everything is ok ;) -- Ce message a été vérifié par MailScanner pour des virus ou des polluriels et rien de suspect n'a été trouvé. Hello, I must say, I find very deceptive the way you "fixed" this bug by removing mysql support :( I gave you all the infos to correct this and you didn't. Bug#353981: Precisions
Hello, again, I wanted to precise a bit my explanation. As the repeat keyword is also used in other part of the code, the repeat string should be replaced only where it is used to contruct a SQL query ;) for example, there were many occurence in the appointment.pinc file : see # # Second query ( repeating appointments w/o end ) # $q = "SELECT c.* FROM ". $obj->dbconn->prefix ."calendar c WHERE "; $q .= " r_ignore = 1 AND ("; $q .= " ( repeat = 1 AND r_arg in (". $wd .") )"; $q .= " OR ( repeat = 2 AND r_arg in (". $md .") )"; $q .= " OR ( repeat = 3 AND r_arg in (". $ymd .") )"; $q .= " OR ( repeat = 4 )"; $q .= " ) AND ( a_start <= ". $x2 ." )"; $q .= ""; $q .= " ORDER by a_start"; which should be replaced by : # # Second query ( repeating appointments w/o end ) # $q = "SELECT c.* FROM ". $obj->dbconn->prefix ."calendar c WHERE "; $q .= " r_ignore = 1 AND ("; $q .= " ( `repeat` = 1 AND r_arg in (". $wd .") )"; $q .= " OR ( `repeat` = 2 AND r_arg in (". $md .") )"; $q .= " OR ( `repeat` = 3 AND r_arg in (". $ymd .") )"; $q .= " OR ( `repeat` = 4 )"; $q .= " ) AND ( a_start <= ". $x2 ." )"; $q .= ""; $q .= " ORDER by a_start"; -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#353981: solved
Hello, I had this problem, and solved it on my server. The cause is that the word "repeat" is a reserved word for Mysql 5.0. when used as a field or table name, it must be "backquoted" with ``, otherwise Mysql refuses the syntax. So I looked in tutos code for the string repeat and I replaced it by `repeat`, and now all works fine -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#345823: apt: Key error at year turnover resembles security problem, and may represent one
I use aptitude and I'm sure I don't know all the ins and outs here. But I do have a suggestion for your consideration: Stop signing the archives with the 2006 key for now. That will allow those who have been using the 2005 key to continue getting updates. After you have your fixes in place -- and the users have updated their systems with those fixes -- then you can add the 2006 key back in for archive-signing purposes. Maybe you would wait until Feb 1 to start using the 2006 key, for the sake of those who don't update their systems daily. Again, I admittedly don't know all of the ramifications. I hope that you will, as a part of your fixes, enable users' copies of apt/keyrings to automatically be updated to use the 2006 key based on trust of the 2005 key which they are already using. That would be good for those who don't know about http://ftp-master.debian.org/ziyi_key_2006.asc. Thank you for considering these possibilities. Rodger Williams ___ No banners. No pop-ups. Bug#340890: feynmf: FTBFS: fmtutil: format `mpost' not available
Thanks to all who reminded me to add a Build-Dep on tetex-extra. I'll fix this immediately in the next upload. For some reason, though, I'm able to build feynmf in my sid chroot even without tetex-extra installed. (???) Why could this possibly be? I did have tetex-extra installed originally, then dpkg --purge'd it to test this bug report -- does it leave something behind that's sufficient for MetaPost to run? Just looking around, I am guessing the needed file in question is /var/lib/texmf/web2c/mpost.mem ... perhaps tetex-extra should remove this in postrm. The bug in subject is still present with mplayerplug-in 3.15. I use debian sarge, so I downloaded the source from debian repository, i built the package and I installed it. But the bug in sarge is still present; it doesn't happen with the steps I described in my bug, but happens often if you change webpage without stop the audio/video stream I send you as attachments two logs from gdb of two segfaults: in the case of bt1.txt, after the segfault the mplayer process was still alive, in the case of bt2.txt it wasn't. Usually the backtraces I've seen are similar to bt2.txt, the bt1.txt seems different (I'm not an expert at all). You can find other backtraces here: http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1346036&forum_id=242727 I read that according to the mplayerplug-in developers, the segfaults depends from debian glibc. Bug#326507: The plugin makes Firefox crash very often
Package: mozilla-mplayer Version: 2.70-1 Severity: grave The plugin makes Firefox very unstable, because the browser crashes very often after the plugin has been used in the same session. A way to reproduce a crash: 1. go at http://fredrik.hubbe.net/plugger/test.mpg 2. play the video for some seconds 3. click on the homepage button, without stopping the video 4. when the homepage is shown, click on Edit --> Preferences 5. crash But the crashes can happen in several ways, even if you stop correctly the video before changing webpage. According to the bug #275240, the reason is a bug in libc6 and it's been fixed in glibc/2.3.5-3. But glibc/2.3.5-3 can't be used on Sarge, so it's not a solution for the stable release. In this situation, it's strange that mozilla-mplayer is in the stable branch. So: 1: you must search a way to correct the problem of the plugin with glibc2.3.2 2: if it's not possible, the mantainers of libc6 should find a way to fix the problem also with glibc2.3.2 3: if the solution n°1 and n°2 are not possible, the package should be deleted from the stable branch, because it's not stable at all and makes the browsers crash very often Anyway a solution should be found, because the plugin is a very good tool. Bug#297980: gnat-gps: kill(-1, SIGINT), additional info

I tried that and behold, the bug is fixed! I agree that this fixes the symptoms and not the cause. However, that will be the solution in Debian for the time being. The reasons are (a) to keep the patch minimal, and (b) because the sources in CVS have been refactored and reorganised quite heavily. Of course I will submit the patch to the upstream authors. FYI, the offending #ifdef pfa is still there in CVS, although the file moved from gvd/gnat to common/gnat. Also FYI, the upstream sources now use /dev/ptmx if available, and fall back to a function called allocate_pty_the_old_fashioned_way (sic) if this fails :) Thank you for the invaluable help! -- Ludovic Brenta.
Bug#297980: xserver-xfree86: X server crashes when compiling a program from gnat-gps

Bug#304293: php4-interbase: Building against libfirebird2-classic produces incorrect dependencies
Package: php4-interbase Version: 4.3.10-1 Severity: serious Building against libfirebird2-classic produces incorrect dependencies and makes interbase.so link against libfbembed.so instead of libfbclient.so This is what just happend when my sponsor rebuild the binary with a different library as I did, and hence escaped my tests. I am sorry I didn't catch this. This makes the library only usable with the classic version of the database. It should be resolved by fixing why it builds against libfbembed.so in the libfirbird2-classic case or declaring a build dependency against libfirebird2-super. Bug#297980: GPS causes XServer to crash bug
Yossi Tamari wrote: > I noticed you reported about the GPS problem. I was wondering if you > know what is the staus of this bug and what is the estimated time it > would be fixed. I would hate to install Windows for Ada > programming... The status of the bug is exactly as described in the report. Nothing has happened since the last update, and I try to work on it on my free time (i.e. after work) but I cannot yet explain or solve the problem. I also cannot estimate the time required to fix it. You don't have to install Windows. As Peter Keller reported, you can use GPS if you install linux 2.6.8-2-386 and ensure that udev is enabled. The problem is specific to linux 2.4, or 2.6 with udev disabled. > If I can help trace the origin of the problem please > let me know - Yes, you can help trace the problem; thank you for the offer. As far as I understand, GPS is somehow causing the X server to shut down cleanly i.e. the X server decides to shut down, like when you do Ctrl+Alt+Backspace. You can try to attach gdb to the X server and see why it decides to shut down; see my earlier comments in the bug report, and bug #297895, for instructions. Also, I suspect that the X server is trying to access a device file which does not exist, of has wrong permissions, when udev is disabled. This causes the X server to shut down. When udev is enabled, it creates the device file dynamically and everything works. You can help confirm this theory of mine, and determine what that device is and what it's used for. > I do not know to whome I should refer in the Debian team. The first issue "also" relies on Path.pm trying to be clever: # notabene: 0777 is for making readable in the first place, # it's also intended to change it to writable in case we have # to recurse in which case we are better than rm -rf for # subtrees with strange permissions > I don't really see that this is fixable outside of rewriting rmtree to > recursively chdir+readdir+unlink. > Given that there are possible pitfalls even with this approach (cf. > CVE-2002-0435) ... I am not sure that all platforms have fileutils: no -v option on rm. (Tru64 doesn't.) CAN-2004-0452 exploited the "chmod 0777", the fix changed the mode to 0700 (and 0666 to 0600) but did not avoid the race.
