Bug#492488: Reproduction of the Iceweasel crashes.

2008-10-29 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I removed the empty folder:
/usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9/chrome/
and made the symbolic link:
ln -s ../../share/xulrunner-1.9/chrome /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9/chrome

and iceweasel runs!!!

I really think iceweasel should not crash this way for a missing folder but
give an error at the console at least of the missing files.

I also think iceweasel installation should check this issue and proceed with
your fix as I think we are not the only ones having this problem.

Bug#492488: Reproduction of the Iceweasel crashes.

2008-10-27 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I have added the crash log (copiling with --enable-debug) and a bt full to show
that it is the same bug at the forwarded upstream mozilla bug report.
Mike, your diff makes my xulrunner not compile:

I can confirm this.
Since python -c 'import matplotlib.nxutils' fails

Bug#489726: should numpy be built with atlas?

The problem is that the new (>1.0) numpy building system needs ATLAS
at compile time to enable fast matrix-multiplication. If ATLAS is not found
at compile time, numpy.core._dotblas.so is not built and slow matrix
multiplication is used even if the end user has ATLAS installed. In the old
numpy _dotblas.so was always compiled using refblas and the end user
would still have had the option of using ATLAS. I'm not sure I understand
why ATLAS is now needed at compile time, but look here:
http://scipy.org/scipy/numpy/ticket/667
and here:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=464784

I think python-numpy should stay as it is now and a bug-wishlist should be
reported to the atlas package to encourage packaging of the new stable
version (3.8.2). Filing a ticket on numpy trac may help, but the fate of
ticket 667 seems to indicate that there's no will of fixing this bug upstream...

thank you,
tiziano

This bug is causing trouble for more and more people.
Please, Marco, if you do not have the time to fix it by adding these
rules, at least let us know what are the changes you though to at least
let anyone else work on them, even if you are the one approving them.

Since the last upgrade, many packages don't work anymore. At least awstats

As you can see "causes data loss" so this is a grave bug.

Many people do not want to loose all their preferences at full disk or
system crash.
I hope you are not serious and do not mind losing all your data because
the disk went full or the system crashed.

This package is de facto orphaned as the maintainer is MIA.

Bug#457044: My box didn't reboot after upgrading linux-image-2.6.18-4-686

2007-12-19 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-4-686
Version: linux-image-2.6.18-4-686 2.6.18.dfsg.1-12etch2
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

This morning, as usual I did :
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

today, there was a security update on linux-image-2.6.18-4-686
I followed the given instructions :
>You are attempting to install a kernel version that is the same as the version
>you are currently running (version 2.6.18-4-686).
>The modules list is quite likely to have been changed, and the modules
>dependency file /lib/modules/2.6.18-4-686/modules.dep needs to be re-built.
>It can not be built correctly right now, since the module list for the running
>kernel are likely to be different from the kernel installed.
>I am creating a new modules.dep file, but that may not be correct. It shall be
>regenerated correctly at next reboot.
> ?
>
>I repeat: you have to reboot in order for the modules file to be created
>correctly. Until you reboot, it may be impossible to load some modules.
> Reboot as soon as this install is finished (Do not reboot right now, since
> you may not be able to boot back up until installation is over, but boot
> immediately after).
>I can not stress that too much. You need to reboot soon.

So I rebooted my machine (a distant one)
And then... nothing else. My production server never came up until now.
I asked to my hosting provider an electrical reboot as I had no way to act, but
the machine didn't boot.
As it's a distant server, I can't tell you what error messages it can show.

The only thing I can provide is the listing of the session from the apt-get
upgrade command to the reboot command
I'll send it in a next post
Of course, I'm not sending this report for the concerned server, as at the
moment it's dead, but from a local test box with a very similar configuration

Bug#453632: (pas de sujet)

2007-12-03 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I've found a workaround :
I started iceape on profile manager, created a new profile, then started with this profile without any problem, then I
restarted with my previous profile, which worked without problem, so I removed the new profile and now everything is ok ;)

Bug#453927: gqview: configuration not saved atomically

2007-12-02 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Package: gqview
Version: 2.0.4-1
Severity: grave
Tags: patch

configuration is not saved atomically. So on errors
like out of space a 0 sized file overwrites a good
configuration.

Instead gqview should write configuration to a temp
file and when everything went OK replace the new
configuration file with the old one.

The patch is at:

I've got four versions of linux-image installed on my box but I can't get the
last one to be used.
here are the different version installed :
linux-image-2.6-686 2.6.22+10

linux-image-2.6.21-2-686 2.6.21-6

the active one, (refering to the links in / path) is 2.6.18-4-686
and there's no way to force the use of 2.6.22, except modifying by hand the
links

when trying dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-2.6.22-2-686, I always get the
messages :
>Not updating initrd symbolic links since we are being updated/reinstalled
>(2.6.22-4 was configured last, according to dpkg)
>Not updating image symbolic links since we are being updated/reinstalled
>(2.6.22-4 was configured last, according to dpkg

and the --force option doesn't force the configuration.

Digg This When trying to get the drive status via ioctl CDROM_DRIVE_STATUS,
with no disk
it gives CDS_TRAY_OPEN even if the tray is closed.

ioctl works as expected with ide-cd driver. Here is the patch to get the same
behaviour on SCSI drives for kernel 2.6.10. 2.4 branch have same problem.

Bug#440160: sysklogd uses /var/log/mail.log .err .info instead of /var/log/mail/mail.log .err .info

2007-08-30 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Package: sysklogd
Version: 1.5-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

I don't really know if it is new sendmail config, proftpd config or new sylogd
config, but many of my log files have been deactivated and replaced by others
in others
places, it's really annoying, because many other tools pointing to the past
paths can't anymore find their childrens, for example, logcheck, logrotate,
fail2ban

all mail related logs are now written in /var/log/mail.log mail.err mail.warn
and mail.info instead of being all written in the directory /var/log/mail/ as
it has always
been...
I don't know exactly when the change was done, as I didn't saw any warning
about that when apt-getting :(

libapr1 (1.2.7-6) made it to testing. It took me a while to figure out why
I got segfaults on the Apache upgrade; Yes, my server runs a 2.4 kernel.
The deb-src solution worked for me too.

Is the 1.2.7-7 release coming to testing really soon?

Yes, this is the case, upgrade was interrupted few times. But after that
it was left to finish all tasks normally - so I thought it will not be
affected? Shouldn't apt be resist to such interrupting?

Bug#394192: Security: integer overflow in pixmap handling (CVE-2006-4811)

2006-10-20 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Package: libqt4-core
Version: all
Severity: critical
Tags: security, fixed-upstream

CVE-2006-4811
A critical integer overflow was found in QT, possibly allowing remote code
execution, for example via manipulated images loaded by apps like Konqueror

See Red Hat Advisory:

https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2006-0720.html

"
An integer overflow flaw was found in the way Qt handled pixmap images.
The KDE khtml library uses Qt in such a way that untrusted parameters could
be passed to Qt, triggering the overflow. An attacker could for example
create a malicious web page that when viewed by a victim in the Konqueror
browser would cause Konqueror to crash or possibly execute arbitrary code
with the privileges of the victim. (CVE-2006-4811)

Bug#376295: AW: Re: [pkg-ntp-maintainers] Bug#376295: ntpdate doesn't work

2006-07-02 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Ok, did some investigation: removing /etc/services (after having
installed inetutils-inetd) causes ntpdate to fail, so you're
correct.

(just fyi: other packages like syslog and most likely fam are also
affected by that, so maybe it would make sense to communicate with
each other ...)

My first guess is that it's missing /etc/services which is

Hello,
I must say, I find very deceptive the way you "fixed" this bug by removing
mysql support :(
I gave you all the infos to correct this and you didn't. You just had to read Mysql 5 documentation to understand how to
solve it, and you choosed a lamer's way ! Bravo !

Hello,
once again I've some informations to provide :
There were left other errors in the php/db/db.pinc :

in the getInsert(), getUpdate() and getSelect() functions which are used to

for the same reason, it's necessary to replace some mentions to $i by the backquoted
version "`$i`"
to get :

 /**

$flds = "(";
$vals = "(";

Bug#353981: Precisions

2006-03-01 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello, again, I wanted to precise a bit my explanation.
As the repeat keyword is also used in other part of the code, the repeat string should be replaced only where it is used
to contruct a SQL query ;)

for example, there were many occurence in the appointment.pinc file : see
 #
# Second query ( repeating appointments w/o end )
#
$q = "SELECT c.* FROM ". $obj->dbconn->prefix ."calendar c WHERE ";
$q .= " r_ignore = 1 AND (";
$q .= " ( repeat = 1 AND r_arg in (". $wd .") )";
$q .= " OR ( repeat = 2 AND r_arg in (". $md .") )";
$q .= " OR ( repeat = 3 AND r_arg in (". $ymd .") )";
$q .= " OR ( repeat = 4 )";
$q .= " ) AND ( a_start <= ". $x2 ." )";
$q .= "";
$q .= " ORDER by a_start";

which should be replaced by :

 #
# Second query ( repeating appointments w/o end )
#
$q = "SELECT c.* FROM ". $obj->dbconn->prefix ."calendar c WHERE ";
$q .= " r_ignore = 1 AND (";
$q .= " ( `repeat` = 1 AND r_arg in (". $wd .") )";
$q .= " OR ( `repeat` = 2 AND r_arg in (". $md .") )";
$q .= " OR ( `repeat` = 3 AND r_arg in (". $ymd .") )";
$q .= " OR ( `repeat` = 4 )";
$q .= " ) AND ( a_start <= ". $x2 ." )";
$q .= "";
$q .= " ORDER by a_start";

Bug#353981: solved

2006-03-01 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello, I had this problem, and solved it on my server.
The cause is that the word "repeat" is a reserved word for Mysql 5.0.
when used as a field or table name, it must be "backquoted" with ``,
otherwise Mysql refuses the syntax.
So I looked in tutos code for the string repeat and I replaced it by
`repeat`, and now all works fine

Bug#345823: apt: Key error at year turnover resembles security problem, and may represent one

2006-01-04 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I use aptitude and I'm sure I don't know all the ins and outs here. But I do
have a suggestion for your consideration:

Stop signing the archives with the 2006 key for now. That will allow those who
have been using the 2005 key to continue getting updates.

After you have your fixes in place -- and the users have updated their systems
with those fixes -- then you can add the 2006 key back in for archive-signing
purposes. Maybe you would wait until Feb 1 to start using the 2006 key, for the
sake of those who don't update their systems daily. Again, I admittedly don't
know all of the ramifications.

I hope that you will, as a part of your fixes, enable users' copies of
apt/keyrings to automatically be updated to use the 2006 key based on trust of
the 2005 key which they are already using. That would be good for those who
don't know about http://ftp-master.debian.org/ziyi_key_2006.asc.

Thank you for considering these possibilities.

Bug#340890: feynmf: FTBFS: fmtutil: format `mpost' not available

2005-11-26 Thread Kevin B McCarty ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
Thanks to all who reminded me to add a Build-Dep on tetex-extra.
I'll fix this immediately in the next upload.

For some reason, though, I'm able to build feynmf in my sid chroot
even without tetex-extra installed. (???) Why could this possibly
be? I did have tetex-extra installed originally, then dpkg --purge'd
it to test this bug report -- does it leave something behind that's
sufficient for MetaPost to run?

Just looking around, I am guessing the needed file in question is
/var/lib/texmf/web2c/mpost.mem ... perhaps tetex-extra should
remove this in postrm. Should I file a separate bug report?

regards,

Bug#326507: mozilla-mplayer bug #326507

2005-11-12 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
The bug in subject is still present with mplayerplug-in 3.15.
I use debian sarge, so I downloaded the source from debian repository, i built
the package and I installed it.
But the bug in sarge is still present; it doesn't happen with the steps I
described in my bug, but happens often if you change webpage without stop the
audio/video stream
I send you as attachments two logs from gdb of two segfaults: in the case of
bt1.txt, after the segfault the mplayer process was still alive, in the case of
bt2.txt it wasn't.
Usually the backtraces I've seen are similar to bt2.txt, the bt1.txt seems
different (I'm not an expert at all).
You can find other backtraces here:
http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1346036&forum_id=242727
I read that according to the mplayerplug-in developers, the segfaults depends
from debian glibc.
Tell me if I can make other tests useful for you.
Really thanks for your work in debian.
Best regards , Paolo

Bug#326507: The plugin makes Firefox crash very often

2005-09-03 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Package: mozilla-mplayer
Version: 2.70-1
Severity: grave

The plugin makes Firefox very unstable, because the browser crashes very often
after the plugin has been used in the same session.
A way to reproduce a crash:

1. go at http://fredrik.hubbe.net/plugger/test.mpg
2. play the video for some seconds
3. click on the homepage button, without stopping the video
4. when the homepage is shown, click on Edit --> Preferences
5. crash

But the crashes can happen in several ways, even if you stop correctly the
video before changing webpage.
According to the bug #275240, the reason is a bug in libc6 and it's been fixed
in glibc/2.3.5-3.
But glibc/2.3.5-3 can't be used on Sarge, so it's not a solution for the stable
release.
In this situation, it's strange that mozilla-mplayer is in the stable branch.
So:

1: you must search a way to correct the problem of the plugin with glibc2.3.2
2: if it's not possible, the mantainers of libc6 should find a way to fix the
problem also with glibc2.3.2
3: if the solution n°1 and n°2 are not possible, the package should be deleted
from the stable branch, because it's not stable at all and makes the browsers
crash very often

Anyway a solution should be found, because the plugin is a very good tool.
Thanks for your work in Debian.
Paolo

I tried that and behold, the bug is fixed!

I agree that this fixes the symptoms and not the cause. However, that
will be the solution in Debian for the time being. The reasons are
(a) to keep the patch minimal, and (b) because the sources in CVS have
been refactored and reorganised quite heavily. Of course I will
submit the patch to the upstream authors.

FYI, the offending #ifdef pfa is still there in CVS, although the file
moved from gvd/gnat to common/gnat.

Also FYI, the upstream sources now use /dev/ptmx if available, and
fall back to a function called allocate_pty_the_old_fashioned_way
(sic) if this fails :)

Thank you for the invaluable help!

Bug#297980: xserver-xfree86: X server crashes when compiling a program from gnat-gps

2005-04-27 Thread Ludovic Brenta <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
As noted previously, the X server does not crash, it exists
voluntarily. The cause for this is now known to be that gnat-gps
calls kill (-1, SIGINT) which kills the user's session.

See #297980 for more details.

Bug#306405: webmin-bind 1.180-3 forget to physically rename bind8-lib.pl

2005-04-26 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Package: webmin-bind
Version: 1.180-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Version 1.180-3 in testing of webmin bind has not renamed the bind8-lib.pl in
/usr/share/webmin/bind. It is still called as above. that means webmin
returns an error message that is could not find bind-lib.pl a rename of
file of symlink fixes the problem. But a file rename on a part of a
package is not for the average joe. So IMO this breaks webmin bind for
most users.

Bug#297980: gnat-gps: starting compilation terminates X session

I don't think that using the legacy mechanism for allocating a pty is
the culprit, but if I have time I will patch gnat-gps to just use
/dev/ptmx.

Thank you so much for your detailed investigation. I ran gnat-gps
under strace too, but couldn't spot the problem with ioctl. I will
investigate in the gnat-gps sources and tell you where I think the
problem is. If you can lend a hand as you say, your help is most
welcome.

Bug#304293: php4-interbase: Building against libfirebird2-classic produces incorrect dependencies

2005-04-11 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Package: php4-interbase
Version: 4.3.10-1
Severity: serious

Building against libfirebird2-classic produces incorrect dependencies
and makes interbase.so link against libfbembed.so instead of
libfbclient.so

This is what just happend when my sponsor rebuild the binary with a
different library as I did, and hence escaped my tests. I am sorry I
didn't catch this.

This makes the library only usable with the classic version of the
database. It should be resolved by fixing why it builds against
libfbembed.so in the libfirbird2-classic case or declaring a build
dependency against libfirebird2-super.

A new version is under construction and being tested, hopefully ready
tonight.

Cheers,
Remco.

Bug#297980: GPS causes XServer to crash bug

Yossi Tamari wrote:

The status of the bug is exactly as described in the report. Nothing
has happened since the last update, and I try to work on it on my free
time (i.e. after work) but I cannot yet explain or solve the problem.
I also cannot estimate the time required to fix it.

You don't have to install Windows. As Peter Keller reported, you can
use GPS if you install linux 2.6.8-2-386 and ensure that udev is
enabled. The problem is specific to linux 2.4, or 2.6 with udev
disabled.

> If I can help trace the origin of the problem please
> let me know -

Yes, you can help trace the problem; thank you for the offer. As far
as I understand, GPS is somehow causing the X server to shut down
cleanly i.e. the X server decides to shut down, like when you do
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace. You can try to attach gdb to the X server and see
why it decides to shut down; see my earlier comments in the bug
report, and bug #297895, for instructions.

Also, I suspect that the X server is trying to access a device file
which does not exist, of has wrong permissions, when udev is disabled.
This causes the X server to shut down. When udev is enabled, it
creates the device file dynamically and everything works. You can
help confirm this theory of mine, and determine what that device is
and what it's used for.

> I do not know to whome I should refer in the Debian team.

The Debian team for gnat-gps is one person - me. The best is to send
mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] so that your
contributions are logged in the bug reports. Other people can help,
too, by reading the reports and trying things out. For that matter, I
am CCing the two bug reports; please feel free to followup there. If
you would like to be notified by email whenever someone sends mail to
one of the bug reports, go to the package tracking system[1] and
subscribe to the package gnat-gps.

Bug#286905: perl-modules: File::Path::rmtree makes setuid

Brendan O'Dea <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

The first issue "also" relies on Path.pm trying to be clever:

# notabene: 0777 is for making readable in the first place,
# it's also intended to change it to writable in case we have
# to recurse in which case we are better than rm -rf for
# subtrees with strange permissions

That pitfall is known and easily avoided by double-checking inodes.

I am not sure that all platforms have fileutils: no -v option on rm.
(Tru64 doesn't.)

Rafael Garcia-Suarez <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

CAN-2004-0452 exploited the "chmod 0777", the fix changed the mode
to 0700 (and 0666 to 0600) but did not avoid the race.
