Bug#895388: Symbol removal prevents upgrade of postgres 9.6 cluster with postgis columns

2018-04-10 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: libsfcgal1
Version: 1.3.3-1
Severity: serious

I have postgresql-9.6-postgis-2.3 installed (no longer in Debian
buster, but was in stretch, current stable). After upgrading libsfcgal1
and trying to use postgis on my existing Postgres 9.6 server, I get an
error when trying to access a table with a geography column:

ari@ari:~ % psql
ari=# \d+
location_order_providers

ERROR: could not load library

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libSFCGAL.so.1: undefined symbol:

That would be fine if I could upgrade the database to Postgres 10, since
the new postgresql-10-postgis-2.4 package doesn't depend on libsfcgal1,
but I can't do that with the missing symbol:

ari@ari:~ % sudo pg_upgradecluster 9.6 main
Stopping old
cluster...

Disabling connections to the old cluster during
upgrade...

Restarting old cluster with restricted
connections...

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libSFCGAL.so.1: undefined symbol:
_ZN4CGAL11NULL_VECTORE

If I downgrade libsfcgal1, all of that works fine.

Bug#790867: New version available

2015-07-02 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: gnome-shell-pomodoro
Version: 0.10.3-1
Severity: serious

gnome-shell-pomodoro 0.10.3 dosn't work with gnome-shell 3.16. There is a
new version of gnome-shell-pomodoro available upstream that does.

Maybe the Debian package should also be updated to depend on versions of
gnome-shell less than the version after what's currently supported? So
in the current case, it would be gnome-shell (<< 3.15).

Thanks!

2012-03-14 Thread Ari Pollak
It does appear that squeeze's libpurple0 is affected by this, though the
patch doesn't apply cleanly.
Technically, the possible crash is in the client code, and I don't think
pidgin or finch exhibit this behavior; the original bug was against
Adium for OS X, based on libpurple.
I don't think backporting the patch would be too difficult, but it might
be difficult to try reproducing the issue on pidgin to test that the
problem would actually get fixed.

Bug#562720: pidgin hangs if a jabber buddy opens a audio/video connection to you

2010-02-15 Thread Ari Pollak
severity 562720 important
thanks

Please accept my deepest apologies for downgrading the severity of a bug
that obviously did not meet the criteria for a serious severity. Let me
quote from the BTS manual:

serious
is a severe violation of Debian policy (roughly, it violates a must or
required directive), or, in the package maintainer's or release
manager's opinion, makes the package unsuitable for release.

Please point to the section of Debian policy that this bug violates.
Assuming your XMPP settings require that users must authenticate with
you before being able to send you messages, only your authenticated
users would be able to freeze your client, assuming they knew you were
actually affected by this bug. Not everyone sees this behavior, and it's
only on one protocol, but if you'd really like to hold up this package
from Debian stable, feel free to take it up with the release team or
tech-ctte.

Additionally, please try to refrain from changing the severity of a bug
that the maintainer has already triaged. If you disagree with a bug's
attributes, there are processes in place to get around them without
abusing the BTS.

>From upstream:

A patch for the file upload vulnerability can be found in 4be2df4f,
3d02401c, and c64a1adc [1, 2, & 3]. The fix itself is in [3], but depends
on the first two to apply properly (and clean up memory correctly).

As a note, when backporting the patch to anything older than 2.6.0, the use
of purple_strequal will need to be changed.

I just requested a CVE.

Read my earlier message. There is no minimum kernel requirement of
2.6.27 or higher for squeeze, and you can't just declare a kernel
dependency and hope the user isn't running a lower kernel version.

Er, that's not what this bug is about. It's about the flag passed to

is checked at compile-time instead of run-time.

Because there's no dependency on kernel >= 2.6.27, and there's nothing

Bug#520189: nspluginwrapper does not work on kernel 2.6.26

2009-03-17 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: nspluginwrapper
Version: 1.3.0-1
Severity: serious

nspluginwrapper currently does not work at all on my system; I believe
this has to do with a kernel 2.6.27-specific flag passed to socket()
now, but I'm not entirely sure. This is especially bad given that the
default kernel in both squeeze and sid is 2.6.26, but this package
should work regardless of the particular 2.6 kernel version.

Nope, the crash was pretty clearly in the engine. I'm sure gimp 2.4 uses

Unfortunately this means I'd have to re-run autoconf & automake during
build, which I'm trying to avoid doing. Since the current patch
essentially does the same thing in the end, I'll just switch to the
configure option for 2.5.0 and fix the path for now.

If what you say is correct, then most Pidgin installations are not

It's not explicitly checking for write permissions, it just tries to

In version 3.12.0~beta2-1 of libnss3-1d, -lnssutil was added as a
required library in nss.pc, but the symbols file was not updated with
the correct version. So programs that link against nss with the new
version installed will depend on libnssutil3.so.1d, but will most likely
depend on a version of libnss3-1d that is too old, possibly resulting in
a missing library error.

Bug#441882: NMU

2007-09-23 Thread Ari Pollak
Sorry, this was well open for an immediate NMU since it had been filed for
longer than a week. No harm done in getting the fix in early.

Wow, thanks for the thirty minutes notice. I had planned to build and
upload tomorrow. Oh well.

Bug#442427: Changes to sysmacros.h cause FTBFS in previously good software

2007-09-15 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: libc6-dev
Version: 2.6.1-4
Severity: grave

After the changes in -3 to sysmacros.h to fix #439859, software that
defined a major or minor variable now breaks, whereas it used to compile
fine. I have not heard a valid rationale for breaking things resulting
from that patch. gimp currently fails to build with the following:
