Bug#854528: texlive-lang-japanese: LuaLaTeX-ja doesn't work with the current texlive-lang-japanes
Package: texlive-lang-japanese Version: 2016.20170123-2 Severity: serious Tags: stretch, sid Dear Maintainer, I recently noticed a problem of LuaTeX-ja in Debian/testing. The problem is * LaTeX2e 2017.01.01 is released and is in Debian/testing * LuaLaTex uses TU encoding by default, and fontspec is updated * luatexja-fontspec of LuaTeX-ja was not compatible with the new fontspec * the author of LuaTeX-ja updated luatexja-fontspec at 2017.01.24 to fix the problem I guess he uploaded it to CTAN and so TeXLive but I don't know when it comes into Debian package, and further, Debian is in freeze state already. The error is critical (for LuaLaTeX-ja users) and lualatex fails to compile even very simple TeX file as follows: (/usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/tex/luatex/luatexja/addons/luatexja-fontspec-24. sty ! Undefined control sequence. l.352 \__fontspec_define_feature_option:n {CJKShape}{JIS2004}{20}{100}{+jp04} ? I installed manually the new LuaTeX-ja in /usr/local and the problem is certainly fixed. So I believe Debian must update LuaTeX-ja (texlive-lang-japanese) for stretch. If you need any further information please let me know. Best regards, Atsuhito Kohda -- Package-specific info: IMPORTANT INFORMATION: We will only consider bug reports concerning the packaging of TeX Live as relevant. If you have problems with combination of packages in a LaTeX document, please consult your local TeX User Group, the comp.text.tex user group, the author of the original .sty file, or any other help resource. In particular, bugs that are related to up-upstream, i.e., neither Debian nor TeX Live (upstream), but the original package authors, will be closed immediately. *** The Debian TeX Team is *not* a LaTeX Help Desk *** If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries (latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the error in your report. Please run your example with (pdf)latex -recorder ... (or any other program that supports -recorder) and send us the generated file with the extension .fls, it lists all the files loaded during the run and can easily explain problems induced by outdated files in your home directory. Don't forget to also include minimal examples of other files that are needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures! If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem), you can probably minimize it further. Due to the bug #711383, I refrain from uploading TeXmacs to unstable/testing/jessie yet. Further, it is true that TeXmacs doesn't work with guile-2.0. So I don't know what I can do at present. If guile-2.0 is necessary then there is no room I can do. Even if guile-1.8 is permissible, I don't know how to overcome #711383 yet so it looks there is no choice I can select. I thought wrongly that this package was obsolete and unnecessary after removal of vfdata-morisawa5 so did not pay so much attention to this package (sorry). But I notice after reviewing that this package is necessary even now to use complete set of morisawa fonts. But it seems necessary to modify contents of the package to be compatible with texlive-lang-cjk's directory structure. Installable but not usable is not a good solution, so I need to check a bit more throughly the package. Please wait for a while. Thanks for your contributions. Defoma will be dropped in the next release of Debian and it is recommended to drop defoma support in every packages of fonts. It is intentional to drop defoma-font and hint-file in postinst. If both packages migrate to testing at the same time it's best but I guess it is not so bad if there is some time delay between them. And, fortunately, we know what is wrong in this case. Thanks for your work. However I think it is much better if a maintainer fixes this kind of important bug so I intend to take over ptex-bin. I will NMUpload a new upstream version of ptex-bin within a week and after one more week (so within January) I will upload a new package as a new maintainer if Hatta-san doesn't object to it. I already participate in maintenace of xdvik-ja (xdvi for ptex) and uploaded a new package which should fixed a similar problem. Also I filed a similar bug to dvipsk-ja (dvips for ptex) and dvi2ps (another dvi to ps converter for ptex/jtex). Thanks to all for your work. It is very unfortunate that lenny was released at the time wolfram removed their fonts from the web site. But note mathematica fonts are no more necessary for MathML but stix fonts (otf-stix package) are necessary instead. So if you need mathematica fonts for displaying MathML, please simply remove ttf-mathematica4.1 and install otf-stix (in testing perhaps). If you need mathematica fonts for using Mathematica from remote machine, for example, please install mathematica-fonts (in testing) which will install mathematica fonts without problem at the moment. The package in sid should work, at least it installs fonts at present and you can use them but I don't know how they are useful for you. I have a system with MathematicaPlayer(perhaps ver6) and find it has Mathematica fonts under (in my case) /usr/local/Wolfram/MathematicaPlayer/6.0/SystemFiles/Fonts/ If it fixes the problem for you I believe there is no need to provide the package any more and I'll request removal of the package. * Mathematica fonts of ver.7 includes not only ttf but also type1 (and afm), bdf, and I wonder if only ttf is enough for your purpose or type1 etc. are also necessary. If type1 is necessary too, ttf-mathematica is not an appropriate name and I should change a name to something like mathematica-fonts and might change drastically packaging methods. Further, I don't have an environment to test a package ;-) Thanks for your interest in the package. Further, at first, the package was for MathML, which would be of generic interest, but for iceweasel of Lenny the package is unnecessary for rendering MathML so I once thought I would orphan the package. (And STIX fonts, which I intend to package, are necessary for iceweasel in Lenny.) But Drew Parsons told me, in short, the package would be important for users who access Mathematica remotely even if the package is unnecessary for MathML. So the package should change its nature in this case. At present, I believe to neglect ttf-mathematica4.1 is the best solution for Lenny release. Are you sure the above kind of use of the fonts is legal use of Mathematica fonts? (Further, I'm afraid the above needs might be so small.) In the above example, I guess Mathematica7.0 fonts (not 4.1) will be okay but then the package should be ttf-mathematica and install the (latest?) available Mathematica fonts. (For MathML with old iceweasel/firefox, only Mathematica4.1 fonts are acceptable, as far as I understand.) In any case, the most biggest problem for the pakage is if WRI keeps the fonts on their website with an appropriate license. I've contacted WRI but didn't get any good answer. I suspect this is mainly due to my English. (Can anyone help me?) I know that there are some websites where they keep Mathematica4.1 fonts, for example, (could be obsolete however) http://downloads.sf.net/math-linux/ http://ftp.freebsd.or.id/distfiles/mathfonts-4.1/ and for Windows, there is an installer of them in MIT http://web.mit.edu/ist/topics/webpublishing/mathml/index.html I want to know why these are legally acceptable. I guess if I keep them as configuration files, it needs only to check if a file exists or not before copying configuration files and if I changed them as conffiles I needs to check if they were changed or not with, for example, md5sums and rmoved unmodified files in preinst (with version check). ucf might be another option but I don't understand your point of "conffiles won't work". > Do you think you will be able get lync-cur rc-bug-free and add a > transition package for lynx in time for lenny? I've concentrated on recent developement of Japanese TeX these days (if you have interests in this, please visit http://www1.pm.tokushima-u.ac.jp/~kohda/tex/ptexlive.en.html) so I don't take so much time for investigating this problem but I'll take time to fix this silly mistakes. Umm, saying it is stable enough and you advised to put it in experimental? This sounds to me very self-contradicting. If you all think it is enough to update lynx to the current version (and a maintainer keeps it in the latest version), it's okay for me now (sigh). But if I'm allowed to advice, it will be better to use the package name lynx-cur because it is the name of the upstream source. Zephaniah, I'd like to hear your opinion if possible. Umm, not so good Debian developer, but I'll submit a bug report as maximilian advised, perhaps in the next week. The Alpha machine is in a office of a univ. so I will not test it in this week end. I maintain two alpha machines but they are very sensitive and I experienced boot failure many times with them. In fact, one fails to boot with kernel greater than 2.6.12 and so it is running with 2.6.12-1-alpha-generic even now. The other, which I reffered to in this report, booted successfully until 2.6.24-1-alpha-generic came and there was time when it failed to boot with kernels of versions smaller than 2.6.8 So I think to have two options for generating initrd.img is good for users. Hi all, I encountered a problem recently on my alpha machine running Debian testing. linux-image-2.6.22-3-alpha-generic was failed to boot if I used initramfs-tools to generate initrd.img but it booted successfully with initrd.img generated by yaird. Unfortunately linux-image-2.6.24-1-alpha-generic failed to boot with both initramfs-tools and yaird. Anyway I believe yaird is necessary for, at least, alpha in lenny. Bug#322387: Question for DD: TeX live upload to unstable?

An upstream of pTeX already released ptex-src-3.1.9 which supported teTeX-3.0 (the current ptex-bin was based on ptex-src-3.1.5). So I assume that ptex will have no problem with teTeX-3.0 but I'm not sure if it has a problem with texlive or not. To be more precise, removeal of initex could be a news but its background, i.e. initex is replaced with "tex -ini" is not a news. I'm not usre that one can say initex _has to_ be removed but at least it is reasonable to remove it in teTeX3.0 as I already explained. Further, it's your too personal impression to say it's an interface that has been used. At most one should say there was a time in the past when it was an interface commonly used. > 2. It's too late. This is already not even a news. > Please provide a 'initex' that prints out a warning that > it is being deprecated for etch. This would break the fundamental initex feature as documented in its manual. I can understand that you've been considerinig initex as a fundamental executable to dump fmt file and are surprised to see it removed but it's not general issue but, sorry to say, only your personal issue. I believe it is reasonable to tag this wontfix or something. In changelog.gz of tetex-bin one can find; Sun May 9 21:33:12 CEST 2004 * A huge change, to bring the teTeX source in sync with Olaf's working sources for web2c. These changes implement: - ini* and vir* links are no longer created Sun Mar 28 13:14:45 CEST 2004 * add manpage for kpsewhere (thanks, Frank!) * clean up texk/tetex/Makefile for manpage symlinks (initex, virtex etc. are no longer installed, so we don't need manpages for this). About manual, initex feature is there forever so manual doesn't stop to mention initex feature. So this doesn't mean removal of initex is premature. (even right now, if you call tex with the name initex, it behaves as such.) Historically, in old, old days (TeX2.99 or so), there were real binaries; tex, initex, virtex (one needed to call initex to dump fmt files) and then, perhaps at sometime of TeX3.1x, "tex -ini" was introduced but, for backward compatibility, a symbolic link for initex (to tex) was kept for a (enough long) while. Now it isn't surprise that major TeX distributions think it is time to drop a obsolete symbolic link for initex. > Ermm.. something is confused, I suppose. Anyway, a setting like; INITEX="pdfetex -ini" in whizzytexrc seems to work. Is it not enough for whizzytex? Generally, initex is obsolete and is now equivalent to "tex -init". Same for etex/einitex. (einitex is obsoete and removed, it is equivalent to "etex -ini".) > From the 'NEWS' file, it looks like 'pdfetex' is the default now, > so invoking pdfeinitex would be the right option?
