I did not catch this notice actually, but you are 100% right. Thanks a
lot. I have been mislead by the fact local accounts configuration was
not updated and directories recreated under $HOME/.evolution/local

Bad assumption from me, my bad.

Will do.

Bug can be closed, or severity downgraded as it misses something to
update configuration for impacted accounts.

Bug#615822: Evolution wipe $HOME/.evolution/mail on upgrade

2011-02-28 Thread Cedric Blancher
Package: evolution
Version: 2.32.2-1
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

After upgrading Evolution and associated packages to 2.32.2, I saw that
some of my local email accounts were now empty. It appears that the entire
$HOME/.evolution/mail was wiped without any notice or warning during the
upgrade. Therefore, all local emails stored there are actually *lost*.

Apparently, I am not the only one affected:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1378906

Checking last modification dates on file system, I can confirm that it is
due to upgrading Evolution. Now, is it due to Evolution upstream bug or
packaging, I don't know. But that's a serious issue as you are actually
losing email without any mean of recovering it as far as I can see...
Quite a lot as far as I am concerned :(

Actually, it was not... PEBCAK :/

Gnome-session now starts fine, no issue with usual applications up to
now. Seems you have a win there. Thx.

Bug#522370: Updating gconf2 to 2.24 freezes gnome-session startup

2009-04-03 Thread Cedric Blancher
Package: gconf2
Version: 2.24.0-7
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When I upgrade gconf2 and directly related packages from 2.22 to 2.24,
gnome-session does not start anymore.
After login, desktop background is displayed, then everything is stuck,
even before Gnome splash screen. It does also affect Rescue Session, as
well as every user on the system, including freshly created accounts.

Downgrading to 2.22 restores system usability.

Bug#358071: SIGABRT error after libc6 update

2006-03-21 Thread Cedric Blancher
Package: evolution
Version: 2.4.2.1-1
Followup-For: Bug #358071

I have the exact same bug here, although it seems that libglib2 is
the main problem.

Workaround: downgrading install for following packages

. libc6 2.3.6-3
. libc6-dev 2.3.6-3
. libglib2.0-02.8.6-1
. libglib2.0-data 2.8.6-1
. libglib2.0-dev 2.8.6-1
. libpango1.0-0 1.10.4-1
. libpango1.0-common 1.10.4-1
. libpango1.0-dev 1.10.4-1

Downgrading libc6 2.3.6-4 alone does not fix anything. Downgrading
libglib2.0 2.10.1-2 alone breaks libpango 1.12.0-2 which is to be
downgraded as well.

Didn't mention I was using a deb packaged Xorg. OK, so it must be this
that causes problem. I'll investigate this lead, and eventually contact
upstream developper.

So, as far as Debian is concerned, we can close this bug. Sorry for the
bother.

Bug#290291: evolution: Evolution does not authenticate using MD5 methods (DIGEST/CRAM) and remains plaintext

2005-01-16 Thread Cedric Blancher
So, to eventually close this bug. It is identified in 2.0.3 by upstream
maintainers and a patch[1] has been issued to fix the bug.

What I could see for now : bug is triggered when you open any email
account preferences. All accounts auth type is then reset to plaintext
authentification, although you may not have edited other accounts.

Indeed, I changed an account settings last thursday, day on which I
began to experienced the problem. So, nothing related to a package
update. To get things back, one have to repeat procedure explained in
previous message (or apply patch).

Bug#290291: evolution: Evolution does not authenticate using MD5 methods (DIGEST/CRAM) and remains plaintext

I don't know what went wrong with my Evolution theses last days, but got
something wierd. However, I could find this bug that fits my situation :

http://bugzilla.ximian.com/show_bug.cgi?id=70535

Authentication Type not being stored correctly in account config

Solution : manually edit ~/.gconf/apps/evolution/mail/%gconf.xml

It works ! So, this what has to be done :

1. shutdown Evolution: "evolution --force-shutdown"
2. shutdown gconfd: "gconftool-2 --shutdown"
3. edit ~/.gconf/apps/evolution/mail/%gconf.xml
4. Change [protocol]://[USER]@ to [protocol]://[USER];auth=[Auth]@
under (and if your server requires
authentication
for sending)
5. Start evolution (gconfd will restart automatically)

Auth in step 4 being Basic, NTLM, DIGEST-MD5 or CRAM-DM5...

Bug#290291: evolution: Evolution does not authenticate using MD5 methods (DIGEST/CRAM) and remains plaintext

2005-01-14 Thread Cedric Blancher
I can't figure out what could have caused this. Must be some linked
library It can't spot... By the way, CAMEL_DEBUG does not figure some
interesting message except one. The thing is when I try to configure my
account access, login is always set as plaintext. When I try to
validate another mechanism (such as CRAM-MD5), I get this :

(evolution:8343): evolution-mail-CRITICAL **: file em-folder-tree-
model.c: line 825 (em_folder_tree_model_remove_uri): assertion `uri !=
NULL' failed

Thanks for your help.

Bug#290291: evolution: Evolution does not authenticate using MD5 methods (DIGEST/CRAM) and remains plaintext

2005-01-13 Thread Cedric Blancher
Package: evolution
Version: 2.0.3-1.1
Severity: grave
Justification: user security hole

Since yesterday's sid update, my Evolution only authenticate using
plaintext login/password, whether you choose NTLM, DIGEST-MD5 or
CRAM-MD5, introducing a security issue on non SSL accounts and denial of
access on servers refusing plaintext authentications.
