Bug#472826: openoffice.org-writer: Openoffice fails to start up with arphic fonts

2008-03-29 Thread David Koo
Hi,

> With 1:2.3.1-5 or sids 2.4?

I'm using Lenny, so its 1:2.3.1-5

> Did you change something on your system except moving that dir back?

The only thing I can recall is switching to the open source radeonhd
driver for ATI graphics cards instead of the proprietary fglrx
(support free software :)). I just switched back to the proprietary
fglrx driver and tried - no crash ... everything started fine.

As you can see above, I can't reproduce it now, so I suppose you
can close this bug. I just hope it isn't a ticking time bomb waiting
to explode somewhere else!!!

Thanks.

Bug#472826: openoffice.org-writer: Openoffice fails to start up with arphic fonts

2008-03-28 Thread David Koo
> I disagree, sorry. But it doesn't really matter anyway, see below.

I'm embarrased to say but I agree with your tests now. This morning I
gave it one more shot and renamed the arphic directory back to its
original name and openoffice started up!

But I swear I had tried this at least 6 times (really!) before filing
the bug report and every time it crashed (as the strace output
showed).

I supposed the bug severity can be lowered (or even closed) now that
it seems to be running fine!

Thanks.

Bug#472826: openoffice.org-writer: Openoffice fails to start up with arphic fonts

2008-03-26 Thread David Koo
Package: openoffice.org-writer
Version: 1:2.3.1-5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I start up openoffice.org-writer (or openoffice.org-calc) from the
command line. The splash screen comes up and, after the progress bar
proceeds to about 50% it hangs. Then I edited
/etc/openoffice/sofficerc and disabled the startup log (set Logo=0 in
the sofficerc file)

This time there was no logo but the application immediately quit
(i.e. I type openoffice.org-writer (or calc) and I am returned to the
bash prompt immediately.

An strace shows a segmentation fault after opening an "arphic"
font (output trimmed - full strace output can be provided if needed):

If I remove the arphic directory (or rename it to something else)
the application(s) start up fine.

I don't know if its a defect in the openoffice application or the
font but since a font does not exactly "execute" I've filed this
report against the openoffice.org package.

Thanks.
