Bug#367267: ftp.debian.org: still not there

2006-09-22 Thread Eddy Petrișor
Package: ftp.debian.org
Followup-For: Bug #367267

Hello,

The packages are still not in the right places, couldn't something like
a move by hand be done? In order to have my local mirror synced I have
to ignore errors (debmirror) which I don't really like.

I wonder if this would affect the availability of the package in etch
(as released, on cd images).

Bug#389030: xserver-xorg: does not start (after reboot) if no mouse is attached

2006-09-23 Thread Eddy Petrișor
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.0.22
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,

I have found that if I plug out the USB mouse and restart the system the
X server will not start unless th mouse is attached. Removing the mouse
after the server has started has no ill effects.

Although currently there are almost no systems without a mouse, it
shouldn't be a requiremnt for the X server to start.

Bug#443358: keeps on changing tunes

2007-09-20 Thread Eddy Petrișor
Package: last-exit
Version: 5-1
Severity: serious
Justification: makes the player unusable

Hello,

I just discovered that last-exit is no longer usable since it keeps on changing
the tune after 5 to 10 seconds from a song had gone. I tried restarting the
player, but I had no luck.

I also tried to start the player from the console in the hope I'll see any
significant messages on the console, but still, no luck.

With this upload we'll have builds for all arches done against 2.0-dev

... since I implemented the "best" solution.

Will do a local build and then I'll ask for a sponsor.

I have just sent a call on debian powerpc to test the game to see if the bug is
reproducible for
other powerpc machine since nobody else tested it yet on powerpc.

Hmm, probably due to backporting xorg from Ubuntu.

I have seen this too on a fresh installation on a Dell Inspiron 6400/E1505

After the installation of the system the kbd and mouse modules are not
installed. Nor are the video drivers.

Yes, this fixed it for me, too.

Bug#407435: laptop-net: does not set the appropriate scheme according to the neighbouring IPs

Hello,

I am using laptop-net to connect to the network at home(ritter) and the
one at work(bd). Both places use DHCP.
At work I need to do some stuff after connecting (setting some tunnel
for safe synergy sessions), but although I have the following lines in
ip-map, the scheme does not change even after the interface is brought
up.

I tried the suggested workaround and it worked. Indeed, it seems lilo expects
/dev/dm-* to be symlinks. Thanks.

Note that my /dev/mapper/ directory look like this:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/usr/src/bd/packs/_release/radmin$ ll /dev/mapper/
total 0
crw-rw 1 root root 10, 63 2007-01-15 14:18 control
brw-rw 1 root disk 254, 1 2007-01-15 14:18 hdapool-homefilesystem
brw-rw 1 root disk 254, 0 2007-01-15 14:18 hdapool-rootfilesystem

So, the symlink creation should be done according to what is present in
/dev/mapper and is not necessarily /dev/mapper/vg0-lg0 or similar.

(I knew which is which by looking at the major and minor device numbers.)

Bug#408387: the Debian menu is (not consistently) localized

2007-01-25 Thread Eddy Petrișor
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: menu
Version: 2.1.33
Severity: serious
Justification: localization is a release target

Hello,

I am using an Etch system with GNOME and I have seen that the Debian
menu is not localized in Romanian, although a translation exists.

I am also using GNOME in Etch on another system which at the moment
shows the Debian menu localized, but I remember I've seen it "slip"
before.

I tried running update-menus both as root and as a regular user, but the
menu wasn't updated (well, the translation didn't appear).

$ LANG=C apt-cache policy metacity
metacity:

(The localmirror is a clean Debian mirror with nothing else)

So the problem is that the menu does not seem to be respecting the
locale selected via the LANG environment variable.

Note that the whole system is localized in Romanian:
$ cat /etc/default/locale

If anyone wants to play the game, there is a workaround:

# mkdir -p /usr/share/games/wormux/font/
# ln -s /var/lib/defoma/fontconfig.d/D/DejaVu-Sans.ttf
/usr/share/games/wormux/font/DejaVuSans.ttf

this path is stored in pieces and I haven't found it yet.(

May I suggest using "grep -q" here instead of plain "grep"?
It makes it more obvious that you don't use the result.

Bug#425933: fix pending

2007-05-28 Thread Eddy Petrișor
tags 425933 pending
thanks

Since now jadetex is installable I was able to fix the build deps. This will be
fixed in the 0.6.20 upload.

I asked Eduard Bloch to do the upload, since he likes to do some checks of his
own before an upload.

If the original submitter is eager to test the fix, the source package can be
obtained directly from SVN with the
following command:

svn export
svn://svn.debian.org/svn/collab-maint/deb-maint/svn-buildpackage/tags/0.6.20
svn-buildpackage-0.6.20

This will create a svn-buildpackage-0.6.20 directory where the source package
is.

nah, is gtk 2.8 and I followed the README to add colours to tasks (I knew it

I agree, I grepped for the assertion and found it in openmoko, but not in

Not sure if this is good enough; as you can see, I didn't knew where to put the

This was done on the svn code r206.

The svn build seems ok. Will you do a 0.8 release; I went back to 0.6 which
worked fine, but it would be nice to be able
to set categories right from task creation.

BTW, I think that task categorization could be done more intuitive with a
syntax like "::category:: task". This would
allow later multiple categorization (e.g.: "::dev::pkg:: release tasks 0.8" ;-)
).

I was suspecting that GTD was behind the design :-).

Make sure you use the upsteam source as version since there might be binNMUs
and the API should not change anyway from
a.b.c-X to a.b.c-Y.

It is highly possible that vdrift will be removed from the archive. We recently
found that it contains some non-free
parts from a commercial game. I am not sure it those parts are so critical that
a clean-up wouldn't do it, but Goneri
already requested its removal (although I raised that question and never got a
clear answer, iirc).

2006-10-13 Thread Eddy Petrișor
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Package: wormux
Version: 0.7.4-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

Hello,

I have found that wormux leads to a total halt and also halts X in the
following context:

- - start the game with two teams
- - use the weapon GNU launcher after aiming at some scenery object
- - the game will block when the gnu touches the aimed scenery
- - the whole X session become unusable

Note: I have tried to reproduce this on a testing (0.7.2-6) i386 machine,
but I couldn't. I have tried also with 0.7.4-1 on the same i386 machine,
the bug still doesn't appear. I suppose is a powerpc issue or (maybe) a
r300 driver issue(?).

Thanks for the report. I hope you could do a second test later after the
package is fixed and uploaded or, if you wish, you can test now a full
installation:

0)load the module
1)switch to VT2
2)move rp-pppoe.so in /usr/lib/pppd/2.4.4b1
3)wget

4)switch back to VT1 and test the installation (via PPPoE)

Jean Parpaillon wrote:
> Can someone try to reproduce the bug ?

I have tried to see what is happening and seems to some sort of platform
specific issue. I am not that skilled with assembler, but I think either
the generated code is wrong or the FPU has some issues.

The problem occurs at weapon/gnu.cpp:84.

  82
  83   while(angle < -M_PI) angle += M_PI;
  84   while(angle > M_PI) angle -= M_PI;
  85
  86   angle *= 180.0 / M_PI;

The code enters in an endless loop at that line but there seems to be no
apparent reason for that. I have observed that the endless loop occurs
if the gnu hits a wall which is inclined at such an angle that the gnu
hits it with the head on the rising side of a jump.

I will try to explain with some aiding ASCII drawing.

   \
\
__>__\

Assume ">" is the gnu which goes in the direction indicated by the sign.
The game will enter an endless loop when it gets to the state indicated
below.

Although the code (IMO) should do the decrementing of f1 (the register
where the angle is stored) and set cr7 accordingly, it seems that the
decrementing never occurs, as the listing below shows.

The commands are the listed ones by DDD in its console.
The first interrupt was done to define the regs macro which prints the
values of the relevant registers and of the angle variable.

The second interrupt was done after I managed to block the gnu.

Note: Although I have assembler background experience, I don't have such
experience with PowerPC assembler. I think a better skilled person at
PowerPC assembler than myself should analyze the code and say if this is
a GCC bug or a platform bug (at least that's what I think this problems
seems to be).

Bug#395197: ppp/detect_progress should be of type progress, not type note

2006-10-25 Thread Eddy Petrișor
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: ppp
Version: 2.4.4rel-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,

I haven't tested this since there is no image with the 2.4.4rel-3, but I
am fairly sure the ppp-udeb is unusable because the template
ppp/detect_progress is of type note instead of progress. This will
certainly break the debconf protocol when the progress bar is set to a
value, since the note has no progress value.

Marco, I can merge my newest changes until tomorrow morning, the latest.
Also I can fix the recently reported issues in the postinst script.
Also, I will revert this gratuitous change.

Hello,

Steve, thanks for the additional info, I didn't realised the value was

I will look into the physics engine to see what is wrong and try to
understand what is wrong. It appears that upstream is quite aware of the
issue that it exists, but they don't know why it happens:

AFAICT, the same problem is present on a Sid system, but since in most

I have looked deeper into this issue, and (of course, still a problem
just in front of me - the lack of coding in the last year starts to show
its hideous face). I have seen this from the start, but I have payed too
much attention.

The issue is that angle and norme are declared locally instead of the
class. The physics engine is quite ok from the GNU POV.

I will be experimenting with some asserts in the code before providing a
final patch.

The bug is really fixed in our (Debian games Team) SVN, but I have no
sponsor for the package. Still, I would like to make some small changes
before an upload.

Sorry for the lack of follow-up, I (currently) don't have internet
access @ home, so I am constrained by office schedule and public
transportation schedule.

Also, the patch adds redundant entries like 800x600(minimal),
800x600(current) and 800x600, which is confusing, IMHO.

I would have liked better a patch that wouldn't make this confusion. I
will look in the upstream repo to see if their patch is better (I think
they fixed this issue in r904 in their svn)

I have changed the patch as seen at:
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-games?op=comp&[EMAIL PROTECTED]&[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Changelog (in SVN):
* no more redundant resolutions in the resolution list
* the current resolution is marked by "*" since it doesn't need translation
* unfortunately the current resolution is always at the top, not ordered

Thanks again, Hanna :-) .

The package is ready for upload and can be found at
http://pkg-games.alioth.debian.org/upload/wormux/

The urgency has been set to medium as it fixes 2 RC bugs, although I am
not sure if this shouldn't have been high. Steve?

Also, I have seen that wormux has been removed from testing, I hope this
package will replace the missing one, right (i.e. Etch will release with
wormux included in it)?

Bug#398757: konserve: fails to make backups

2006-11-15 Thread Eddy Petrișor
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Subject: konserve: fails to make backups
Package: konserve
Version: 0.10.3-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,

I have found that konserve chokes if the backup URL is an existant
directory. Also, backups in a file does not work, generating a always a
2 bytes file. It claims during the wizard creation that it is capable of
doing backups in directories, thus creating a file for each
snapshot/backup (whatever) (as opposed to overwriting the file, is the
backup URL is a file).

The error is saying that it failed because the backup URL exists.

Steps to reproduce:
- - start the app from the menu from kde
- - create a backup task of a directory (I chose ~/tmp/_eraseme just to
test the app) via the wizard; select an existing directory (or
create a new one) as the backup URL
- - start a backup task by hand via the systray icon/backup task_name

After a while there should be two error messages one saying the backup
failed and the second complaing about the existing directory.

- - change the backup URL to an existing file (or a non-existing one) in
the aforementioned directory and force backup creation now like in the
  previous step

After a while the disk activity will stop, but the backup URL file will
be of size 2.

This looks like a deterministic problem :-/ (well, probably is a
initialization issue)...

I have tried to see what happens (and complied the package with

tshark on a console while running by hand arp-discovery, and behold,
the answer came right away:

If tshark is not started, the response doesn't come, so this looks
like either a deterministic problem (want to measure, phenomena

I am not sure if this has anything to do with the pcap library which

It appears that linking laptop-net with libcap0.8 fixes the issue.
Also, note that on the upstream pcap homepage, 0.8 is mentioned to
fix some 64 bit issue[1]:

LIBPCAP 0.8.3

LIBPCAP version 0.8.3 has been released as of March 30, 2004. 0.8.3
fixes a minor problem with gencode.c on 64-bit architectures. It
also carries the correct version numbers.

I attached a patch which implements the change I proposed and fixes
the issue I encountered (this is a patch against laptop-net 2.26-7.1).

Since the 0.8 version added some changes I have checked the following:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~/usr/src/laptop-net/laptop-net-2.26 $ grep -R -E
"(pcap_next_ex|pcap_breakloop|pcap_dump_flush|pcap_list_datalinks|pcap_set_datalink|pcap_lib_version|pcap_datalink_val_to_name|pcap_datalink_name_to_val)"
*

since the changelog said:
Wed. November 12, 2003. [EMAIL PROTECTED] Summary for
0.8 release

added pcap_findalldevs()
Win32 patches from NetGroup, Politecnico di Torino (Italy)
OpenBSD pf, DLT_PFLOG added
Many changes to ATM support.
lookup pcap_lookupnet()
Added DLT_ARCNET_LINUX, DLT_ENC, DLT_IEEE802_11_RADIO, DLT_SUNATM,
DLT_IP_OVER_FC, DLT_FRELAY, others.
Sigh. More AIX wonderfulness.
Document updates.
Changes to API: pcap_next_ex(), pcap_breakloop(), pcap_dump_flush(),
pcap_list_datalinks(), pcap_set_datalink(),
pcap_lib_version(), pcap_datalink_val_to_name(),
pcap_datalink_name_to_val(), new error returns.

Later changelog entries say:
Tue.July 5, 2005. [EMAIL PROTECTED] Summary for 0.9.3 libpcap
release

Fixes for compiling on nearly every platform,
including improved 64bit support
MSDOS Support
Add support for sending packets
OpenBSD pf format support
IrDA capture (Linux only)

Tue. March 30, 2004. [EMAIL PROTECTED] Summary for 3.8.3
release

Fixed minor problem in gencode.c that would appear on 64-bit
platforms.
Version number is now sane.

I suspect these two releases are the main reason why arp-discovery
works when linked against libpcap0.8 and doesn't on libpcap0.7.

Also note that it appears that the configure script of laptop-net
ignores completely libpcap, but the compilation fails if either of
the libpcap*-dev are not present.

If I run tshark with -p it has the broken behaviour.

Since I have absolutely no knowledge of ruby, so I can't debug the

Of course, this isn't helpful at all, the test is ran with a purpose

Now, this is helpful:

http://blade.nagaokaut.ac.jp/cgi-bin/scat.rb/ruby/ruby-core/8975

It seems that the functions fu_* are even private and upstream has
removed the dependency on these functions:

http://blade.nagaokaut.ac.jp/cgi-bin/scat.rb/ruby/ruby-core/8987

Hth.

Ok, I digged even a little bit more and I found that upstream
released 0.7.2 meanwhile.

I backported what I thought it should fix the thing (note that I am
ABSOLUTELY foreign to ruby), and the package build.

Patch is attached. Not sure if i counts, but sure it was fun for me
:-) .

Just to spare people from going to the manual:

"If such a process does not exist, start-stop-daemon exits with
error status 1 (0 if --oknodo is specified)"

>

Yes, I should never send patches when I am tired :-) I was trying
something along the lines of the code below.

- - if start-stop-daemon --stop --quiet --pidfile ${PIDFILE} \
- - --exec ${DAEMON} --retry 10 ; then
+ if start-stop-daemon --stop --quiet --oknodo --pidfile
${PIDFILE} \
+ --signal TERM/3/TERM/3/KILL/10; then

Still I wasn't sure if it would make any difference to try to TERM
twice and I ended up in sending a half baked/broken patch.

Maybe is time to install timidity and check if I can reproduce the
bug :-)

(after some time)

So I went on and changed the command, and came up with a patch.

I could reproduce the bug on my machine after uncommenting the
option in /etc/default, and, of course the result was fine after
applying the patch...

NMU patch attached.

Below this line is not that relevant for this bug...

OTOH, Steve, you said that the --exec option should not be used, but
I see the same type of code for many other daemons on my system, so
the issue you are talking about should happen for these binaries,
too, shouldn't it?

Or am I missing something like most or all are calling that in a
fuinction?

(Went and tested a little)

I tested on laptop-net's init script (well, its stop command) which
also uses --exec and it seems the --exec parameter should be indeed
avoided for --stop:

No, you misunderstood.

These don't work (according to /usr/share/doc/README.Debian, only
for interfaces marked auto and using dhcp):

/etc/init.d/networking restart

/etc/init.d/networking start

until you log in and enable the network interface.

I meant that I haven't tested right out the box from a text console,
before starting any X session, but the commands above did not work
from X until NM fiddled with it.

I have tested this after logging once and leaving the network
configuration in an unconfigured state (according to NM); in this
case, too the init script didn't work.

The only case where the init script worked was when I enabled the
interface from NM and *then* it worked, even if I logged out of the
X session. This would work until NM disables/deconfigures(/whatever
is appropriate term would be according to NM) the card, when the
init script, again, has no effect.

I have added a dummy pre-up hook to the network interface, after
reading this text in the readme:

2.)
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
- -> This devices is *not* managed by NM because it has additional
options.

I have restarted the system, and indeed, NM stopped managing it.

This could be a work around for this issue, but needs to be done in
d-i to make NM ignore the interface.

How? Those are only strings. Nothing is executed from po/mo/gmo files.

If they are loaded, that doesn't mean they are executed.

I won't deny that the relative path thingie leads to segfault (I
haven't tested), but the security tag doesn't seem justified.
