Bug#467609: failed assertion in nscd (hstcache.c:364) on host name lookup
Package: nscd Version: 2.3.6.ds1-13etch5 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable This looks a lot like #451552, except the bug *still* occurs on more recent versions. I expect this grave bug would have been fixed _in_etch_ by the time... Setting debug-level to 16383 in /etc/nscd.conf, and running nscd -d in a terminal gives the following crash before a few minutes to hours (even when nscd was started after invalidating the caches with nscd -i): [...cut...] 10152: add new entry adtech.panthercustomer.com of type GETHOSTBYNAME for hosts to cache (first) 10152: Reloading adtech.panthercustomer.com in hosts cache! 10152: add new entry adtech.panthercustomer.com of type GETHOSTBYNAME for hosts to cache (first) 10152: Reloading adtech.panthercustomer.com in hosts cache! 10152: add new entry adtech.panthercustomer.com of type GETHOSTBYNAME for hosts to cache (first) 10152: Reloading adtech.panthercustomer.com in hosts cache! 10152: add new entry adtech.panthercustomer.com of type GETHOSTBYNAME for hosts to cache (first) 10152: Reloading ecx.images-amazon.com in hosts cache! nscd: hstcache.c:364: cache_addhst: Assertion `hst-h_addr_list[1] == ((void *)0)' failed. Aborted Of course, after the crash all networking is slowed to a pain since name lookups aren't cached any more... and the lack of cache also has impacts on other tables :( Since the process isn't rock solid, it has become unusable... one can't go restart it every time it crashes, it would be far too often. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-6-686 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages nscd depends on: ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-13etch5 GNU C Library: Shared libraries nscd recommends no packages. -- no debconf information Ce message est à l'attention exclusive des destinataires désignés. Bug#410823: closed by Christian Perrier [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Re: Bug#410823: samba: smbd segfaults during startup)
Date: Tue, 13 Feb 2007 19:47:35 +0100 From: Christian Perrier [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Bug#410823: samba: smbd segfaults during startup (cut) Please change passdb backend to tdbsam alone. See Samba Changelog for rationale. 1/ if guest has been disabled from passdb backend, smbd should *not* crash with a segfault when guest is still written inside, but instead ignore it or show an explanatory error message; testparm should also report it (it still doesn't). 2/ The changelog provided in the Debian package doesn't give any rationale, only the fact it was removed. 3/ by reading the changelog I see that some upgrade *should* have *silently* removed the incriminated guest value. (a) it didn't, and (b) it shouldn't be done silently but instead clearly advertised since it's important functionality removal. 4/ passdb backend = tdbsam guest was working fine for me. Is the new version supposed to behave the same, i.e. provide the same access right policy, with guest removed ? -- Hope this helps, Fabien. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#398449: /sbin/hwclock: fails to use RTC, hence 1 hour shift in my TZ
Package: util-linux Version: 2.12r-12 Severity: grave File: /sbin/hwclock Justification: renders package unusable Using manual command: hwclock --show waits a few seconds and fails with the message: select() to /dev/rtc to wait for clock tick timed out and so is the --hctosys command. Etch kernel here is linux-image-2.6.17-2-686 version 2.6.17-9. Booting the same hardware to sarge + 2.6.17 or 2.6.18 is fine and its hwclock works as expected (so not a hardware bug). I found this after tracking why I had a 1 hour time shift at boot. I normally use Europe/Paris for my local time, but I had to work around this bug by setting the system timezone to GMT (I hope this is temporary). Playing manually with hwclock I also discovered --directisa, which when added makes it work but I guess this is for debug only and should not be used in production. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17-2-686 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages util-linux depends on: ii libc62.3.6.ds1-7 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libncurs 5.5-5 Shared libraries for terminal hand ii libslang 2.0.6-4 The S-Lang programming library - r ii libuuid1 1.39+1.40-WIP-2006.10.02+dfsg-2 universally unique id library ii lsb-base 3.1-15 Linux Standard Base 3.1 init scrip ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3-13 compression library - runtime util-linux recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- Hope this helps, Fabien. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
