Bug#317873: libaspell15c2: Broken dependency in unstable

2005-07-15 Thread Jack Malmostoso
Package: libaspell15c2
Followup-For: Bug #317873

I'd just like to confirm that the last distupgrade (15/7/2005) tends to fail
because of
this package. It is however enough to exclude gaim/gaim-data and
gedit/gedit-common from upgrade to go straight without problems.
I also tried to pull Gaim from experimental, but the dependency is broken
also there.

(and I am still lmao on "Go run gentoo or something and leave me alone.")

Bug#427514: linux-image-2.6.21-1-amd64: System does not boot with 2.6.21-4

2007-06-04 Thread Jack Malmostoso
Subject: linux-image-2.6.21-1-amd64: System does not boot with 2.6.21-4
Package: linux-image-2.6.21-1-amd64
Version: 2.6.21-5~snapshot.8808
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

*** Please type your report below this line ***
Hi there,

since I have installed 2.6.21-4 from unstable I cannot boot my system
anymore.
First my configuration: an Asus A8N-E (nforce4) motherboard with two
SATA disks.
The disks are configured in a software RAID1 using mdadm:

/dev/md0 is my /
/dev/md1 is my swap
/dev/md2 is my /home

If I start the system with 2.6.20 it boots fine. Here's a picture of the
end of the initramfs and the start of the normal boot:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/530049031/

The system reaches /sbin/init and it boots just fine.

Here is what happens with 2.6.21:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/530049047/

Something goes wrong in the initramfs, and despite /dev/md0 is started,
it can't be mounted.
At this point I have tried to toy around in the initramfs, read
the /scripts directory but couldn't understand how to make the system
move along. (btw, I could really use a pager in there... I hate vi :D)
It should be noted that I can start my other two RAID arrays without
problems!

Please ignore the fact that my 2.6.21 is now a snapshot from the Debian
Kernel Team (btw, I have tried also 2.6.22rc3 but the problem is still
there) as the problem arised with the upgrade from 2.6.21-3 and -4 from
unstable.

I don't recall any udev or initramfs-tools upgrade that could have
broken the system, especially since 2.6.20 works just fine. Additionally
the changelog between -3 and -4 is extremely short so no luck there.

Thanks for any help you might give me.

Bug#427972: Followup to #427514 and #428399

2007-06-18 Thread Jack Malmostoso
Hi there,

I am writing in this bug cause noone seems to be able to help me in the
aforementioned #427514 and #428399.

I have the same issues on a RAID 1 system. I'll copy paste all the info
I gathered by reading the previous messages.

---start

I found this bug and I think that it's what's blocking my report
#427514. I guess my 2.6.20 works because its initramfs has been created
with the old version, while the newer kernels don't because of
initramfs-tools = 0.88.

Anyway, I have checked what has been suggested in the thread:

/lib/udev/vol_id -t /dev/md0

and the output was

LVM2_member

To my surprise, since I never had LVM on this machine.
In #427972 it was suggested that it could be the partitioner's fault:
this machine has been partitioned only once at install time, with the
d-i. Should this be reported against d-i or against (I think) parted? It
is potentially very very troublesome...

Anyway, I have tried to blank the sectors of the two partitions member
of /dev/md0 as well as /dev/md0 itself, but with no luck, the output is
still the same and the system does not boot.

Is there any additional idea? It's worth noticing that if I mount
manually the root:

mount -t ext3 /dev/md0 /root

and then exit the initramfs, the system boots just fine. That's why I
think it's the same issue as the one of the OP here.

---end--

Thanks for any help, please ask for any additional info you might need!

Bug#394519: openafs-modules-source: Cannot authenticate to my cell - "pioctl failed"

2006-10-21 Thread Jack Malmostoso
Package: openafs-modules-source
Version: 1.4.2-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi there,

I have upgraded my Debian Sid and rebuilt the openafs kernel module against
my kernel 2.6.18 (stock Debian kernel). I have used m-a:

# m-a a-i openafs

it worked alright just like always. The module loads without errors and the
service can be restarted without failure.
Although it is not possible to obtain a token from my cell with the
following error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ klog -principal -cell XXX.XX
Password:
Unable to authenticate to AFS because a pioctl failed.

The password is obviously correct.
I have found this page:
http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/course/15-491/readings.html

where it is said:

Unable to authenticate to AFS because a pioctl failed.

The openafs driver hasn't loaded properly. The TA or instructor may need to
re-install the driver because a Kubuntu security update has replaced the
kernel with a newer one.

I have checked dmesg and /var/log/messages for errors, but nothing:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dmesg | grep afs
openafs: module license 'http://www.openafs.org/dl/license10.html' taints
kernel.

Please suggest some other place to look for possible failures. If you think
this might be related to the setup of the cell I am trying to connect to,
let me know and I'll ask my sysadmins.

Thanks for any help!

Bug#394661: kernel-package 10.063 didn't fix this issue

2006-10-28 Thread Jack Malmostoso

Manoj Srivastava wrote:

Well, can you provide some logs of the error mode? Can you
start by removing the ./debian directory, building a new kernel
image, and capture the full installation log?

Actually it wasn't happening with a homemade kernel, but upgrading the
normal linux-image-2.6.18 package. The error displayed is exactly the
same reported in the original bug report.

I will need a couple of days to try with a homemade kernel.

Without any details, it is hard to find out where the problem
is, since it does not seem to affect my machines.

I have the impression this is PPC specific, since I cannot observe it on
my AMD64 machine either. Maybe Sven can comment further?

Bug#414535: Workaround for this bug

2007-03-28 Thread Jack Malmostoso
Hi there,

looks like that launching your java application by preloading the
libXinerama shipped by Debian solves the problem:

http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6532373

It works just fine for Azureus:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/opt/azureus$
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libXinerama.so.1 /opt/azureus/azureus

Hope this helps, there's not much Debian can do about this.
