Bug#636459: Breaks unrelated software
Hi oh, and no, the fix for #881725 does not actually help, thanks to this bug. It keeps the systemd-private-* dir around, but everything inside is gone. Joerg
Bug#982685: sl-modem: Depends on removed package
Package: sl-modem Severity: serious Dear Maintainer, the prelink, and with it the execstack, package got removed. You do have a build-dependency on exec-stack. Your package is in non-free, so its not as serious as in main, but still nice to fix. Please either drop the b-d or, if you really need it, reintroduce execstack (as an own package without the broken prelink part) to use it. -- bye, Joerg
Bug#885195: guile-2.0 removed
Hi, i just removed guile-2.0 from unstable. While your package already won't be part of the next release, it will now also be unusable in unstable. Please either upload a fixed version or request removal of the package by reassigning this bug to ftp.debian.org, retitling it appropriatly. I can do this for you, if I don't hear back/see no action within 3 weeks, I will reassign it, so please either finally update or beat me to the reassign. Thanks. -- bye, Joerg
Bug#982683: mysql-workbench: Uses no-longer existing package for build, remove?
Package: mysql-workbench Severity: serious Dear Maintainer, mysql-workbench uses gcc-8 for building, known through bug #944177 for more than a year. Nothing seems to happen, package looks unmaintained. gcc-8 is now removed from Debian, so this package either must have an update, or should be removed too. Please either fix this with an upload removing the usage of gcc-8, or reassign this bug to ftp.debian.org asking for removal, and retitle it something like RM: mysql-workbench -- ROM; outdated, unmaintained Thank you! I intend to do this myself in 3 weeks, if there is no reply. So if you are on it and need a little more time, please tell. -- bye, Joerg
Bug#969839: [Pkg-rust-maintainers] Bug#969839: Bug#973298: Bug#969839: rust-failure: Should rust-failure be removed from unstable?
On 15973 March 1977, Sylvestre Ledru wrote: So you are right, thanks for spotting my mistake, which is because I indeed only check if dak rm would cause any issues. I agree that we thus likely cannot remove it for now from unstable. It has been removed despite this comment. This causes a bunch of breakage. At the request of the release-team, we re-injected the packages which were still in testing back into unstable. Should be back at the next dinstall. Thanks Mark, and for the rest: If you don't want us to act on a rm bug, tag it moreinfo (if its likely to need action later) *or* close it. That ensures that it won't be acted on, as the interface we mostly use for looking at removals hides those. -- bye, Joerg

Bug#924151: grub2-common: wrong grub.cfg for efi boot and fully encrypted disk
Package: grub2-common Version: 2.02+dfsg1-11 Severity: grave Dear Maintainer, I'm unsure about the severity, so feel free to adjust it. But it did make my system unbootable twice already, and as its a setup one can get directly from within debian-installer, it would be nice if it can be fixed before buster. Setup: A new buster install with a fully (except for the EFI partition) encrypted disk. That includes /boot as encrypted, as /boot is just part of / here. In that setup, grub-install writes a /boot/efi/EFI/debian/grub.cfg that contains something like --8<---cut here---start->8--- cryptomount -u e37941013b6c4997bfcdff6145ee0918 search.fs_uuid a6cd673c-de1d-474f-8808-2ae4fdc7e755 root lvmid/0l70u1-APaW-hXej-Sn6a-Nnsb-ue1X-0cFW3Y/APpMrR-2yO8-7EOl-V1pi-DH3a-eNby-lwWX3K set prefix=($root)'/boot/grub' configfile $prefix/grub.cfg --8<---cut here---end--->8--- Which tries to be clever to not duplicate the actual information in grub.cfg by loading it from the usual /boot/grub/grub.cfg place. Unfortunately the cryptomount line above appears to *not* be enough to enable grub to decrypt /, so it can not load the real config and you end up in a rather unusable tiny grub shell. Ugh. A cp /boot/grub/grub.cfg /boot/efi/EFI/debian/grub.cfg fixes it and makes it nicely bootable. No idea which of the many extra commands in the full grub.cfg are doing the magic, but they do. grub asks for passphrase, then takes ages (easily 45 seconds) to decrypt, then shows grub menu and boots. Yay. I do get the same small efi grub.cfg again if i run another grub-install --efi-directory=/boot/efi/EFI/debian/ so I guess it comes from there. -- Package-specific info: *** BEGIN /proc/mounts /dev/mapper/lennier-root / ext4 rw,relatime,discard,errors=remount-ro 0 0 /dev/nvme0n1p1 /boot/efi vfat rw,relatime,fmask=0077,dmask=0077,codepage=437,iocharset=ascii,shortname=mixed,utf8,errors=remount-ro 0 0 *** END /proc/mounts *** BEGIN /boot/grub/grub.cfg # # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE # # It is automatically generated by grub-mkconfig using templates # from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub # ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/00_header ### if [ -s $prefix/grubenv ]; then set have_grubenv=true load_env fi if [ "${next_entry}" ] ; then set default="${next_entry}" set next_entry= save_env next_entry set boot_once=true else set default="0" fi if [ x"${feature_menuentry_id}" = xy ]; then menuentry_id_option="--id" else menuentry_id_option="" fi export menuentry_id_option if [ "${prev_saved_entry}" ]; then set saved_entry="${prev_saved_entry}" save_env saved_entry set prev_saved_entry= save_env prev_saved_entry set boot_once=true fi function savedefault { if [ -z "${boot_once}" ]; then saved_entry="${chosen}" save_env saved_entry fi } function load_video { if [ x$feature_all_video_module = xy ]; then insmod all_video else insmod efi_gop insmod efi_uga insmod ieee1275_fb insmod vbe insmod vga insmod video_bochs insmod video_cirrus fi } insmod part_gpt insmod fat if [ x$feature_platform_search_hint = xy ]; then search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root FAAB-1A17 else search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root FAAB-1A17 fi if loadfont /EFI/debian/grubfont.pf2 ; then set gfxmode=auto load_video insmod gfxterm set locale_dir=$prefix/locale set lang=de_DE insmod gettext fi terminal_input gfxterm terminal_output gfxterm if [ "${recordfail}" = 1 ] ; then set timeout=30 else if [ x$feature_timeout_style = xy ] ; then set timeout_style=menu set timeout=5 # Fallback normal timeout code in case the timeout_style feature is # unavailable. else set timeout=5 fi fi ### END /etc/grub.d/00_header ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ### insmod part_gpt insmod cryptodisk insmod luks insmod gcry_rijndael insmod gcry_rijndael insmod gcry_sha256 insmod lvm insmod ext2 cryptomount -u e37941013b6c4997bfcdff6145ee0918 set root='lvmid/0l70u1-APaW-hXej-Sn6a-Nnsb-ue1X-0cFW3Y/APpMrR-2yO8-7EOl-V1pi-DH3a-eNby-lwWX3K' if [ x$feature_platform_search_hint = xy ]; then search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root --hint='lvmid/0l70u1-APaW-hXej-Sn6a-Nnsb-ue1X-0cFW3Y/APpMrR-2yO8-7EOl-V1pi-DH3a-eNby-lwWX3K' a6cd673c-de1d-474f-8808-2ae4fdc7e755 else search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root a6cd673c-de1d-474f-8808-2ae4fdc7e755 fi insmod png if background_image /usr/share/desktop-base/futureprototype-theme/grub/grub-16x9.png; then set color_normal=white/black set color_highlight=black/white else set menu_color_normal=cyan/blue set menu_color_highlight=white/blue fi ### END /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/10_linux ### function gfxmode { set gfxpayload="${1}" } set linux_gfx_mode= export linux_gfx_mode menuentry 'Debian GNU/Linux' --class debian --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os $menuentry_id_option

Note that as a DD you can engage in discussions about ffmpeg but can't keep the block alive. Reading this thread and how release team members get hit to allow one package into testing makes me want to use my ftpmaster hat to remove it entirely from Debian. Have you read their delegation? It's the release teams right to keep a package out of testing, even if you don't like them using that right. And that goes for every single member, so sod the your own private opinion or teams position, as soon as someone tells you no, then its a no. As usual with people using their delegated rights you have ways to go get to change that. Tons of repeating on a list thread/bug is not one of them. Hi as we have been asked about this license problem and not yet provided an answer: Either the licensing is changed so that the incompatibility no longer is there (by either getting the license changed, or exceptions in the other parts, or by using replacement software which does not have license problems, whatever works), or failing that, the package(s) need to go from Debian. -- bye, Joerg Yeah, patching debian/rules sounds like changing shoes while running the 100 meters track. -- Michael Koch -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. What might have happened is that in a high load scenario if the 1 admin.eticomm.net became unavailable, and there was no other name server to go to, then the request could timeout. With the redundant name servers added in now, if one doesn't answer in time, then it will automatically go to the 2nd and 3rd and so on. Bug#506977: bug 506977 ( ubuntu 275688)
Please have a look at bug 506977 (of which the last and most explaining comment is below this email). The issue involved is a copyright infringement in the source of fpc before version 2.2.2 (i.e. everything version except for the one in unstable). I fear that we should either update or remove the sources of fpc on all but unstable releases. Well. Looked. In clear, either FPC + Lazarus should get out of Lenny or should be updated. You miss etch, which has an even older 2.0.0, so that needs to be fixed too. Now, having talked to the RMs for the various releases: etch - will get done within two weeks. We need time to prepare and coordinate a new stable release. lenny - it will, together with its reverse dependencies, get removed within a day (well, next britney + archive sync run) Its unfortunately way too large a code change to sync the new version from unstable to lenny. -- bye, Joerg elmo [..] trying to avoid extra dependencies on gnumeric is like trying to plug one hole in the titantic with a bit of tissue paper -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. tags 377109 - moreinfo thanks On 10750 March 1977, Jeroen van Wolffelaar wrote: There many reverse dependencies still, and there is no replacement at the moment nor dummy upgrade packages for users of tools like 'mkisofs'. Removing now would break too many things. Thats why i still wait. Therefore, we cannot sanely remove it right now. Yeah. Im waiting until we have the free fork replacement ready (slowly working on it), cdrtools will go out when that goes in. One possibility is to do an epoched upload of the previous version, that doesn't have this controversial legal issue around it? It doesn't seem controversial to me either to apply code patches from upstream to this version if so needed, as the controversy doesn't include the code itself. This allows to not have this controversy hold etch hostage. its more than that. We go from a slightly later version whith replacing the non-free build-system that has, but not from a version where the rest also switched to non-free license combinations. And no, upstream now has 80% CDDL, which is incompatible to GPL, so you cant simply take patches. For the record, I do not (yet) hereby judge on the legal controversy itself, there is no ftp-master position on the matter (yet). Mine is to remove cdrtools and replace it with a forked one. -- bye Joerg Wie gesagt, mein /proc/kcore ist 536MB gross und ich würde meinen Rechner gern davon befreien. Ein rm -f schlägt fehl! The sane way is to remove cdrtools from Debian main (unstable) and add a free replacement, most possible a fork from the last free version (which had only the CDDL licensed build scripts, which can easily be replaced by some automake thing). If you want to join that effort - contact me. For Debian etch I dont think its a big problem right now, dependencies will stop it from getting removed before we release. -- bye Joerg Some NM: 3. Package: imms Severity: serious Hi Maintainer, looking at your package I find analyzer.{ch}, which have the following header: /* emd.h Last update: 3/24/98 An implementation of the Earth Movers Distance. Based of the solution for the Transportation problem as described in Introduction to Mathematical Programming by F. S. Hillier and G. J. Lieberman, McGraw-Hill, 1990. Undistributable. If you get that fixed you also want to fix your debian/copyright file, you miss that multiple files have LGPL, not only GPL. You need to list all (C) holders and licenses... Also you should read the thread behind http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2003/12/msg00188.html to see how to imporve your copyright file even more. -- bye Joerg Unstable means subject to rapid change rather than full of bugs, though sometimes it is both :-). pgpM8zSNDo4gV.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#339214: library package needs to be renamed (libstdc++ allocator change)
#secure method=pgpmime mode=sign On 10477 March 1977, Thomas Bushnell wrote: - Your package was held back since it was requested to ease a move of whatever packages to testing. The unblock was sent on November 2 to [EMAIL PROTECTED] It was repeated on November 17. Should I send requests directly to you instead of using that address? Or should I send repeated requests more frequently? (On what frequency?) Could you read what I wrote? The part in () about the @work. And no, the address is ok. Yes, here @home I can see the mail. Quoting You: Based on past experience, my guess is that it will simply wait, and wait, until it gets whatever special attention it needs. No reupload can change that. Pfffrt, wrong. Just always follow what vorlon says and do it. Can you perhaps tell me what I should do when I have questions like this? It has certainly been my experience that things which get put on back burner just stay there. An excellent example is this very example: what happened between November 2nd and today? We are all 17 days older now. Vorlon's email seems to have received an instantaneous response from you, where my email on November 2 is unanswered after more than two weeks. Is this normal procedure, or did something unusual happen in this case? Nothing unusual, I just happened to have a minute to comment on this bug when he asked me on IRC.
Bug#339214: library package needs to be renamed (libstdc++ allocator change)
Hi Steve asked for a little comment here, so here it goes: - Your package was held back since it was requested to ease a move of whatever packages to testing. I cant see right now a unblock request in my mail folders (but that may be because Im @work, so may be unable to find it, limited access to my mailbox @home) and simply skipped it while doing NEW and havent checked again if it could go through (sorry). - Right now you should upload the renamed packages as it was suggested in this bug. The pending upload wont go out of NEW now anyways. Those c++ crap hitting us again. Quoting You: Based on past experience, my guess is that it will simply wait, and wait, until it gets whatever special attention it needs. No reupload can change that. Pfffrt, wrong. Bug#334164: yada: Touches debian/control, first paragraph, modifies Build-Depends on the fly
Package: yada Severity: serious Hi yada rebuilds the debian/control file when it is run, *AND* it goes and *modifies* data in the first paragraph of it. This is *really* broken and should never be done, except by the maintainer itself. The reason is simple: If its done automagically and noone checks it, it can produce results which may break later, for example in security updates. -- bye Joerg Getty LOL die Telefonnummer vom Arbeitsamt Mönchengladbach ist echt 404-0? Bug#331418: php4-pear-log: ELICENSE - licensed under non-free The PHP License, version 2.02
Package: php4-pear-log Severity: serious Sorry, but the license doesnt really fit the package. You have a php addon thing, using PHP license 2.02, but unfortunately for you this license cant really be used with anything else than PHP itself. It always only talks about the product PHP, not about software. And php-whatever isnt really PHP from the PHP group. Point 5 in the older version 2) is also an advertisement clause. Bad thing which is usually discouraged. And, at the end there is the following text: --- This software consists of voluntary contributions made by many individuals on behalf of the PHP Group. The PHP Group can be contacted via Email at [EMAIL PROTECTED] For more information on the PHP Group and the PHP project, please see http://www.php.net. This product includes the Zend Engine, freely available at http://www.zend.com. --- I doubt that your package is made on behalf of the PHP group. Or that it includes the Zend Engine. As a good solution for this I suggest to talk to your upstream. Looking at the license they choosed they do want to make it available for everyone, so I suggest to use either the original BSD license or the LGPL. The other solution is to reassign this bug to ftp.debian.org requesting the removal of this package. -- bye Joerg towo Das Internet, jetzt auf 47 DVDs - oder auf 2 CDs in der jugenfreien Fassung? pgpxdeM20uqqF.pgp Description: PGP signature
