Bug#1022174: linux-image-6.0.0-1-amd64: nvidia 470 modul builds successfully, but does not get loaded on boot -> no X

2022-10-21 Thread Michael Hatzold
Package: src:linux
Version: 6.0.2-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
Installing linux-image 6.0.0.1 (may not be the *exact* nam, but you'll figure
it out

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   * What was the outcome of this action?
The nvidia470 module seems to be build (?), no error message

On reeboot with the newwly installed kernel there are red *Failed* messages.
The first one stating:

*Failed* start load Kernel modules (or the like)

The boot continues with some more *Failed* messages

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

all neccessary modules, including a working nvidia 470 modul should be loaded

*** End of the template - remove these template lines ***

BTW:
I am writing this report on a terminal (i.e. no X -> ctrl-Alt_F2)
reportbug asks *repeatedly* for sudo PW (for the kernel log) (I don't want to
use 'sudo' which is not configured for that reason)
I am sure most people will give up writing a bug report at this point.

Apart from this:
I hope the internal reportbug-email works (which it didn't in recent times)
because I don't know - being here now outside of X - how to forward it to my
email client.

Bug#1009322: reportbug-gtk: sending bugreport via Debian mail fails

2022-04-11 Thread Michael Hatzold
Package: reportbug-gtk
Version: 11.4.1
Severity: serious
Justification: unusuable

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where
appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
I tried to file a bugreport against a debian 5.17. trunk kernel. When
*finished* I wanted to send it via the configured mail provider
(debian). But it failed (as did nearly all bug reports within the
last year or so). Additionally the then generated temp file
containing the report now cannot be opened again for whatever
reason. This is frustrating for whoever tries to provide usefull
info. I am NOT going to write several wishbugs now. It is OBVIOUS
that, if the mail fails, reportbug has to go back to the previous
menu to then allow one of the other options. Otherwise you (we?)
lose reports and people who want to participate.

I append the (corrupted?) tmp file with the bug report against the 5.17
trunk kernel.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

I wanted to send a bug report (about 5.17-trunk kernel), but reportbug
prevented me from doing so.

Bug#770695: Dovecot 2.2.13-10 uploaded; please test

2014-12-11 Thread Michael Hatzold

Am 11.12.2014, 04:28 Uhr, schrieb jaldhar-dove...@debian.org:

Dear Debian Dovecot user,

I am writing to you because you have helped me in debugging bug #770695.
I have just uploaded -10 which I think should finally fix this once and
for all. (Famous last words! :-) Please test it and let me know what
happens. It also fixes the hang I inadvertantly caused in dovecot-sieve
in the last update.

Thanking you in advance,

Hi,

I upgraded dovecot-core together with dovecot-imapd running this command:

*
dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/dovecot-core_1%3a2.2.13-10_amd64.deb
/var/cache/apt/archives/dovecot-imapd_1%3a2.2.13-10_amd64.deb

*

The new version 2.2.13-10 installs fine without any problem. (I don't use
and don't have installed dovecot-sieve)

Thanks for caring about this bug!

I assume this won't get you any valuable info as here the install did
*not* hang.

So after some further testing I think your latest version somehow did
solve the problem without me noticing it because it *did* hang during the
very first upgrade from 2.2.13-8 to 2.2.13-9 but did not hang reinstalling
it.

As I still have older versions in my archives (2.2.13-6 to 2.2.13-9) I
downgraded to the oldest version,

***
dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/dovecot-core_1%3a2.2.13-6_amd64.deb
***
which was hanging during downgrade at the point it ever hangs, after
restart of the IMAP server:

**
[ ok ] Starting IMAP/POP3 mail server: dovecot.
**

htop always showed dovecot-core.po in it's list doing nothing, all values
being 0 except in column S where it was marked Z.
This time I didn't kill dpkg (pkill dpkg in a new console) but simply run
ctrl-C. Afterwards I could run dpkg --configure -a which apparently
did what had to be done and finished with showing me the prompt. This
happened with all versions from *13-6 to *13-8 . Same goes for
dovecot-core.po . Only exception: your latest version where there was a
problem only with the *very first* upgrade. Now during my tests I could
upgrade this version without problems. Maybe todays dist-upgrade changed
something in some somehow related package, I don't know.

FYI in case you still need to see what happens when the install hangs here
the output from when I installed v2.2.13-6 :

I now found out how to trigger the bug even with your latest version. This
explains why I saw the installation hanging the first time I installed
v2.2.13-9 because I installed dovecot-core AND dovecot-imapd:

***
dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/dovecot-core_1%3a2.2.13-9_amd64.deb
***

does not cause a problem,

***
dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/dovecot-core_1%3a2.2.13-9_amd64.deb
/var/cache/apt/archives/dovecot-imapd_1%3a2.2.13-9_amd64.deb

***

does cause the upgrade/installation to hang after the restart of the IMAP
server.

I can finish the installation by running ctrl-C followed by dpkg
--configure -a.

It seems dovecot-imapd must be tweeked, too. Here the output from its
installation:

Bug#770695: Dovecot-core unable to finish its installation

2014-12-09 Thread Michael Hatzold

Hi

I downgraded to 2.2.13-9

Still hanging after these lines:

I waited more than 5 minutes, then killed dpkg which gave this output:

**
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg exited unexpectedly

E: Problem executing scripts DPkg::Post-Invoke 'adequate --help /dev/null

**

dpkg --configure -a didn't work due the dpkg lock. While searching for
other processes which might be in the way htop showed me a file called
dovecot-core.po where the S column was marked Z . (I have no clue
what this means or whether or not this is valuable info, I telling you
anyway I case it is).

After a reboot I could issue dpkg --configure -a which then configured
dovecot-core, started the IMAP server and returned to the prompt.

Let me know if you need further info or testing.

Thanks

Bug#770695: Dovecot-core unable to finish its installation

2014-12-09 Thread Michael Hatzold

Am 10.12.2014, 00:17 Uhr, schrieb Jaldhar H. Vyas jald...@debian.org:

It seems dovecot-core.po is only runing during install/upgrade, because
now it's not listed in htop.

What is the output of:

debconf-show dovecot-core

as root: nothing
as user: ~$ debconf-show dovecot-core
debconf: DbDriver passwords warning: could not open
/var/cache/debconf/passwords.dat: Keine Berechtigung

(keine Berechtigung = no permission)

After a reboot I could issue dpkg --configure -a which then
configured dovecot-core, started the IMAP server and returned to the
prompt.

So you did not reboot after previous installs?

Sure I did reboot after previous installs, I had to. Otherwise I couldn't
finish dist-upgrades which I interrupted when I killed dpkg due to the
hanging dovecot-core install/upgrade. It is always the same procedure:
dovcote-core install/upgrade hangs, I kill dpkg, apt-get dist-upgrade
and/or dpkg --configure -a won't work, I reboot and try to finish the
install or dist-upgrade doing whatever is necessary (dpkg --configure
-a, apt-get dist-upgrade, apt-get -f install) .

Thanks

here I waited half an hour ... nothing

***

At the first times I though it would be related to ssl (and maybe it is):
It seems that if I comment the path to the ssl certificate IMAP would
start but it then hangs a bit later (don't know how to reproduce).

To overcome the hanging update I needed to kill dpkg (which then remains
locked). After reboot ~# dpkg --configure -a may work if no other
packages were involved during a failed dist-upgrade:

***
dovecot-core (1:2.2.15-1) wird eingerichtet ...
[ ok ] Starting IMAP/POP3 mail server: dovecot
***

As I remember this does not work when ssl path is uncommented during
install.

BTW, bug 771407 seems related if it is not entirely the same.

Let me know if you need further informations.

Bug#755528: moc not working: FATAL_ERROR: Can't receive value from the

2014-07-21 Thread Michael Hatzold
Package: moc
Version: 1:2.5.0~beta2-1+b1
Severity: serious
Justification: unusuable

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

What I did today was:

Open moc (mocp)
trying to play a *.mp4, but my mp4_s weren't shown (as they use to be). But I
could play mp3_s.
I noticed moc-ffmpeg-plugin was missing and installed it -
*.mp4 files were shown but there was an error, something like ..couldn't
initiate sent() on server or the like.
I reinstalled moc and moc-ffmpeg-plugin and rebooted.
*.mp4 files still shown, but now a different error, no matter what files (mp3
or mp4) I try to play:
FATAL_ERROR: Can't receive value from the server!

Neither deleteing ~/.moc or rm -rf ~/.moc/cache nor --reinstall does solve the
problem.

Currently moc is unusuable here.

Bug#737745: /usr/sbin/update-flashplugin-nonfree: update-flashplugin-nonfree -iv not working

Package: flashplugin-nonfree
Version: 1:3.4

Justification: root security hole

Dear Maintainer,
* What led up to the situation?
according to public reports there is a new *critical* vulnerability in
flashplayer. But the command to update isn't working:

   * What led up to the situation?
update-flashplugin-nonfree -iv

* What was the outcome of this action?

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

update to upstream version = 11.2.202.336

BTW:
There is a bunch of Debian/sid users who use the following cronjob to check for
and update to new versions if available:

***script /etc/cron.daily/flash***
#!/bin/sh

test -x /usr/sbin/update-flashplugin-nonfree /usr/sbin/update-flashplugin-
nonfree --install --quiet
***end***

Shouldn'd such functionality be part of update-flashplugin-nonfree?

Bug#660803: oss-compat 3 problems with udev and breaks audio

As root in a VT I did run:

udevadm --debug trigger --verbose

Output in attachement. If it's not what you wanted pls let me know what
to

do exactly.

Thanks, that is what I wanted although it's not enough to figure out the
problem - but Sven provided the missing info (thanks!).

If you don't mind, could you try the following workarounds?

The first is to drop the last softdep from oss-compat.conf (v3):

softdep snd-pcm post: snd-pcm-oss
softdep snd-mixer post: snd-mixer-oss

This version is working for me. No delay during boot and working sound
even with oss-depending software (wmmixer).

That's the workaround provided by Sven, so it should work just fine.

The second is to add a variant of the last softdep:

softdep snd-pcm post: snd-pcm-oss
softdep snd-mixer post: snd-mixer-oss
softdep snd-seq post: snd-seq-oss

Thisone is *not* working. Delay during boot an no sound.

This will help determine whether the initialisation lock-up is related to
loading snd-seq-midi... (Incidentally, the Debian kernels don't ship
snd-seq-oss.)

I don't use a Debian stock kernel, but a siduction kernel which is vanilla
plus whatever patches siduction applies.

In the hope of providing usefull info I attach:

lsmod | grep oss lsmod.grep_oss.workaround1 (workaround #1 config)
lsmod | grep oss lsmod.grep_oss.workaround2 (workaround #2 config)
strace.workaround2 ( strace -f modprobe snd-seq-oss with workaround #2
config)

If you need further testing, just let me know.

Thanks,

Michael

Stephen

Bug#660803: oss-compat 3 problems with udev and breaks audio

2013-06-27 Thread Michael Hatzold
Package: oss-compat
Version: 3
Followup-For: Bug #660803

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
updating oss-compat form v2 to v3

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
apt-get install oss-compat (pulled and installed v3, then reboot)
   * What was the outcome of this action?
During boot a delay of more then one minute at
udev [473] /sbin/modprobe -b pci. very large number
after more than a minute:
terminated by signal 9 (killed)
- alsa error during boot no soundcard found/configured
boot completes, but no sound, no soundcard.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Working sound even with oss-dependent applications

What I found out:

- manually deleting /etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat.conf lets alsa configure the
soundcard at next boot (but then applications depending on oss-compat won't
work).
- apt-get install oss-compat/testing *won't* work, as it does not replace
/etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat.conf (v3) with /etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat.conf (v2)
- apt-get install oss-compat/testing *will* work if you remove
/etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat.conf beforehand.

To me it seems that the new format of /etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat.conf is the
main problem.

And a sidenote:
oss-compat (3) *recommends* osspd, which when installed *replaces* oss-compat
(but leaves /etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat.conf at its palce). But then whether I
remove /etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat.conf or not, plication dependign on oss wont
work with ossdp.

So here the only working solution is:
manually remove /etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat.conf (v3)
install oss-compat/testing (=v2)
