Bug#595273: If xscreensaver child dies, screen is deadlocked
Le Sun, 05 Sep 2010 22:18:33 -0430, Jose Luis Rivas ghost...@debian.org a écrit : Hello, Please, tell us how to reproduce it. - Swhich to VT or remote ssh acces to the machine - find hack's pid schedule a kill on the child eg. sleep 30 ; kill $pid ; switch back to X-console before the end of slrep command or kill it remotely *should* reproduce it. I was probably wrong : killing the process did not resolve screen locking but was not the reason why it occured. How a xscreensaver child dies in your machine? Some hacks dies badly or acts nastily. If I find some I will fill a bug if necessary. I did test while upgrading xscreensaver (today) which is most probably a bad idea. This was weird but I did not lose my X-session that time. Which hack were you running? Worm (/usr/bin/worm (!?) or is that that' this hack has been removed from xscreensaver ?) and some others . I set up xscreensaver so that it launches a random hack. And what occured when nasty hack was launched is that screensaver warns that the hack died unexpectly and then the screen became totally unresponsive. Now, worm hack is launched corectly, but as this is a text game, it is not very beautiful/interesting hack Can this be related to your video card? Yes it is most probably related to nvidia card and nouveau driver. Sorry for noise, it looks like there is no more problems for now (but I'm now running nvidia proprietary driver). -- L'expérience est le nom que chacun donne à ses erreurs. -+- Oscar Wilde -+- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#567991: There is no more work-around to install root-system on sid
Package: root-system Version: 5.18.00-2.3~lenny1 Severity: serious Tags: sid Hi, I wish that reportbug did not mix me up because I want to add a followup to #567991, not to fill a new report. Bug#563238: Consoles (VT1-VT6) displays are scrambled when gdm is running
Package: gdm Version: 2.20.10-1 Severity: grave Hi, When switching to consoles Ctrl+Alt+Fn, the display is scrambled and there is no way to read what is displayed by login or shell. It occures when consoles display is using svga and gdm is running. The displau keeps trace of what was displayed by X instead of displaying what was expected. I experiment this only with gdm running, not xdm or no dislay manager at all (eg. starting te X server from command line). I experiment this with 2 different nvidia video cards and an asus one so this problem does not seem to be bound to hardware. It may be a regression bug that had been solved in some versions of gdm: in some machine svga for consoles is enabled and I uninstalled gdm weeks ago, I don't remember I had the problem when I uuninstalled it, this is a slow machine with a small harddrive, I uninstalled gdm because I needed the room 0and xdm were sufficient.. when installing latest gdm, the problem has occured. On some other machine, on which I use gdm, I activated framebuffer days ago and I did not notice the problem until I upgraded to latest gdm. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-trunk-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: lang=fr...@euro, lc_ctype=fr...@euro (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages gdm depends on: ii adduser 3.112 add and remove users and groups ii debconf [debconf- 1.5.28 Debian configuration management sy ii gksu 2.0.2-2+b1 graphical frontend to su ii gnome-session [x- 2.28.0-4 The GNOME Session Manager ii gnome-terminal [x 2.28.2-1 The GNOME terminal emulator applic ii kde-window-manage 4:4.3.4-3 the KDE 4 window manager (KWin) ii konsole [x-termin 4:4.3.4-1 X terminal emulator for KDE 4 ii kterm [x-terminal 6.2.0-46 Multi-lingual terminal emulator fo ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.20-2 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-0 1.29.3-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libattr1 1:2.4.44-1 Extended attribute shared library ii libc6 2.10.2-2 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.9.4-1The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.16-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.82-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdmx1 1:1.0.2-3 X11 Distributed Multihead extensio ii libfontconfig12.8.0-1generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.3.11-1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libglade2-0 1:2.6.4-1 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.23.1-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.26.0-1 A powerful object-oriented display ii libgtk2.0-0 2.19.1-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libpam-modules1.1.0-4Pluggable Authentication Modules f ii libpam-runtime1.1.0-4Runtime support for the PAM librar ii libpam0g 1.1.0-4Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libpango1.0-0 1.26.2-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii librsvg2-22.26.0-1 SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii librsvg2-common 2.26.0-1 SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii libselinux1 2.0.89-4 SELinux runtime shared libraries ii libwrap0 7.6.q-18 Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra ii libx11-6 2:1.3.2-1 X11 client-side library ii libxau6 1:1.0.5-1 X11 authorisation library ii libxdmcp6 1:1.0.3-1 X11 Display Manager Control Protoc ii libxext6 2:1.1.1-1 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxi62:1.3-1X11 Input extension library ii libxinerama1 2:1.1-1X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxml2 2.7.6.dfsg-1 GNOME XML library ii lsb-base 3.2-23 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii metacity [x-windo 1:2.28.0-3 lightweight GTK+ window manager ii mutter [x-window- 2.28.1~git20091208-1 lightweight GTK+ window manager ii terminal.app [x-t 0.9.4+cvs20051125-5+b1 Terminal Emulator for GNUstep ii wmaker [x-window- 0.92.0-8.1 NeXTSTEP-like window manager for X ii xfce4-session [x- 4.6.1-1Xfce4 Session Manager ii xfwm4 [x-window-m 4.6.1-1window manager of the Xfce project ii xterm [x-terminal 253-1 X terminal emulator Versions of

Bug#527739: Workaround
Package: aptitude Version: 0.5.2.1-1 Severity: normal The guilty is the dependancy solver: to work around it, i put manual resolution and uncheck treat recommandations as dependency, I did not manage and crash the solver using 'e' then '+' etc. Maybe it may crash that way too, but it seems that it is harder to make a ptitude crash that way :) I guess that it crashes when there is no trivial solution. -- Package-specific info: aptitude 0.5.2.1 compiled at Apr 27 2009 04:54:50 Compiler: g++ 4.3.3 Compiled against: apt version 4.6.0 NCurses version 5.7 libsigc++ version: 2.0.18 Ept support enabled. Bug#483363: acpi: ACPI hangs K7 processors
Package: acpi Version: 0.09-1 Severity: critical Justification: causes serious data loss Hi, I had my machine who was hanging without any reason. I checked the log: nothing unusual before hang up excepot some fancy errors about voltage (-5V is not monitored by the hardware but was between -6.7 and -6.0 in the soft monitor (sane interval is -6.0--4.0) . I suspected a hardware problem : I put the disks in a PII/III box and it was running OK (but slowly indeed) . I ran a freeBSD on the athlon box and it ran OK, no hang up. I changed the alimentation : same hangup :-( I then changed the mobo, as i had sometime litle problems with ide detect and so. It is a slightly different motherboard (old one was an asus, new one is an msi) but hangs up still happenned. I then reinstall the system, using same unsane practice (experimentaal and unstable system packages and so...) and it hanged up again. I reinstalled the system again, keeping carefully stable kernel and testing system, it worked fine then when I updated acpi* due to a new version in testing the system hanged up again... I cannot be sure that acpi is guilty but it is a good candidate. Hang up : the screen is frozen on its state (any of X display, virtual console. The machine is no longer present on the network, the keyboard does not replys disk access stay on the same state, soft off does not work... -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'proposed-updates'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.24-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages acpi depends on: ii libc6 2.7-10 GNU C Library: Shared libraries acpi recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#380086: totem (totem-xine) crashes always on launch wth an error:
Aurelien Jarno wrote: Hi, Could you please retry with glibc 2.5 to see if the problem is fixed? It is available in experimental. This works for me. afair the problem seemed to be related to libc6-i686 - which is expected to be optimized for AMD architecture too. I am shipping libc6-i686 2.5-0exp3 and glibc/libc6 2.5-0exp3. Totem works fine. I experienced another probably reproducible totem crash but this one is most probably not due to glibc but totem iself. I blame myself not to have provided a basic test and not to have reported before that it worked for me since 2.5.0 first or second experimental package. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#357439: traceback just /before/ crash
I hope this can be useful: My video card is a nvdia. I am using nv module. With --sync option the signal is received in glXMakeCurrent () from /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 the instruction that raise the exception is 0xa7e2bf9e (8th instruction of glXMakeCurrent) It seems that glXMakeCurrent is guilty (anyhow if amaya provided invalid arguments to glXMakeCurrent, glXMakeCurrent should raise an exception.) I will forward it to this bug. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17-1-k7 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages gimp depends on: ii gimp-data 2.2.11-3.1 Data files for The GIMP ii libaa1 1.4p5-30 ascii art library ii libart-2.0-22.3.17-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-0 1.11.4-3 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc6 2.3.6-15 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.2.0-3 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libexif12 0.6.13-4 library to parse EXIF files ii libexpat1 1.95.8-3.2 XML parsing C library - runtime li ii libfontconfig1 2.3.2-7 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype62.2.1-2 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgimp2.0 2.2.11-3.1 Libraries necessary to Run the GIM ii libglib2.0-02.10.3-3 The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.8.18-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libice6 1:1.0.0-3X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libjpeg62 6b-13The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii liblcms11.15-1 Color management library ii libmng1 1.0.9-1 Multiple-image Network Graphics li ii libpango1.0-0 1.12.3-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpng12-0 1.2.8rel-5.1 PNG library - runtime ii libsm6 1:1.0.0-4X11 Session Management library ii libtiff43.8.2-5 Tag Image File Format (TIFF) libra ii libwmf0.2-7 0.2.8.3-3.1 Windows metafile conversion librar ii libx11-62:1.0.0-7X11 client-side library ii libxcursor1 1.1.5.2-5X cursor management library ii libxext61:1.0.0-4X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxfixes3 1:3.0.1.2-4 X11 miscellaneous 'fixes' extensio ii libxi6 1:1.0.0-5X11 Input extension library ii libxinerama11:1.0.1-4X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxmu6 1:1.0.1-3X11 miscellaneous utility library ii libxpm4 1:3.5.4.2-3 X11 pixmap library ii libxrandr2 2:1.1.0.2-4 X11 RandR extension library ii libxrender1 1:0.9.0.2-4 X Rendering Extension client libra ii libxt6 1:1.0.0-5X11 toolkit intrinsics library ii wget1.10.2-2 retrieves files from the web ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3-13 compression library - runtime Versions of packages gimp recommends: ii gimp-print 4.3.99+cvs20060521-4 print plugin for the GIMP ii gimp-svg2.2.11-3.1 SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) plu -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
