Bug#595273: If xscreensaver child dies, screen is deadlocked

2010-09-06 Thread Yves Lambert
Le Sun, 05 Sep 2010 22:18:33 -0430,
Jose Luis Rivas ghost...@debian.org a écrit :

Hello,

Please, tell us how to reproduce it.

- Swhich to VT or remote ssh acces to the machine
- find hack's pid
schedule a kill on the child eg. sleep 30 ; kill $pid ; switch back to
X-console before the end of slrep command or kill it remotely *should*
reproduce it.

I was probably wrong : killing the process did not resolve screen
locking but was not the reason why it occured.

How a xscreensaver child dies in
 your machine?

Some hacks dies badly or acts nastily. If I find some I will fill a bug
if necessary.

I did test while upgrading xscreensaver (today) which is most probably a
bad idea. This was weird but I did not lose my X-session that time.

 Which hack were you running?

Worm (/usr/bin/worm (!?) or is that that' this hack has been removed
from xscreensaver ?) and some others . I set up xscreensaver so that it
launches a random hack. And what occured when nasty hack was launched is
that screensaver warns that the hack died unexpectly and then the screen
became totally unresponsive.

Now, worm hack is launched corectly, but as this is a text game, it
is not very beautiful/interesting hack

Can this be related to your video card?

Yes it is most probably related to nvidia card and nouveau driver.

Sorry for noise, it looks like there is no more problems for now (but
I'm now running nvidia proprietary driver).

2010-09-02 Thread Yves Lambert
Package: xscreensaver
Version: 5.11-1
Severity: grave

Hello,

It looks like when xscreensaver child dies, xscreensaver does not
launch another child and the keyboard is locked, only magic keys still
works, no way to switch to another VT.

It may be a nouveau/linux-2.6.35 issue so I am tagging the bug as
experimental.

Bug#567991: There is no more work-around to install root-system on sid

2010-08-06 Thread Yves Lambert
Package: root-system
Version: 5.18.00-2.3~lenny1
Severity: serious
Tags: sid

Hi,

I wish that reportbug did not mix me up because I want to add a
followup to #567991, not to fill a new report. Seems OK.

libkrb53 is broken by libkrb5-3 which hinders now any attempt
to installing root-system on sid or prevents any further krb5
upgrade. root-system depends on libroot5.18 which depends on
libkrb53. There is no alternative, so upgrading krb5 breaks
definitely this root-system version.

Please consider applying ubuntu patch suggested by OP and/or
upload upstream recommended dev and pro versions which are
respectively 5.27/04 and 5.26/00.

Yours sincerely,

YL.

koffice can not be installed. This is formally an *important*
bug.

Bug#563238: Consoles (VT1-VT6) displays are scrambled when gdm is running

2010-01-01 Thread Yves Lambert
Package: gdm
Version: 2.20.10-1
Severity: grave

Hi,

When switching to consoles Ctrl+Alt+Fn, the display is scrambled and there is
no
way to read what is displayed by login or shell. It occures when consoles
display
is using svga and gdm is running. The displau keeps trace of what was
displayed by X instead of displaying what was expected. I experiment this only
with
gdm running, not xdm or no dislay manager at all (eg. starting te X server from
command line). I experiment this with 2 different nvidia video cards and an
asus one
so this problem does not seem to be bound to hardware.
It may be a regression bug that had been solved in some versions of gdm:
in some machine svga for consoles is enabled and I uninstalled gdm weeks ago,
I don't remember I had the problem when I uuninstalled it, this is a slow
machine
with a small harddrive, I uninstalled gdm because I needed the room 0and xdm
were
sufficient.. when installing latest gdm, the problem has occured. On some
other machine, on which I use gdm, I activated framebuffer days ago and I did
not
notice the problem until I upgraded to latest gdm.

Maybe the problem is with font-config, or maybe not.

Bug#527739: Workaround

2009-06-13 Thread Yves Lambert
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.5.2.1-1
Severity: normal

The guilty is the dependancy solver:
to work around it, i put manual resolution and uncheck treat recommandations as
dependency, I did not manage and crash the solver using 'e' then '+' etc. Maybe
it may crash that way too, but it seems that it is harder to make a
ptitude crash that way :)

I guess that it crashes when there is no trivial solution.

Bug#483363: acpi: ACPI hangs K7 processors

2008-05-28 Thread Yves Lambert
Package: acpi
Version: 0.09-1
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

Hi,

I had my machine who was hanging without any reason. I checked the log:
nothing unusual before hang up excepot some fancy errors about voltage
(-5V is not monitored by the hardware but was between -6.7 and -6.0 in
the soft monitor (sane interval is -6.0--4.0) . I suspected a hardware
problem : I put the disks in a PII/III box and it was running OK (but
slowly indeed) . I ran a freeBSD on the athlon box and it ran OK, no
hang up.
I changed the alimentation : same hangup :-(
I then changed the mobo, as i had sometime litle problems with ide
detect and so. It is
a slightly different motherboard (old one was an asus, new one is an
msi) but hangs up still happenned.

I then reinstall the system, using same unsane practice (experimentaal
and unstable system packages and so...) and it hanged up again.

I reinstalled the system again, keeping carefully stable kernel and
testing system, it worked fine then when I updated acpi* due to a new
version in testing the system hanged up again...
I cannot be sure that acpi is guilty but it is a good candidate.

Hang up : the screen is frozen on its state (any of X display, virtual
console. The machine is no longer present on the network, the keyboard
does not replys disk access stay on the same state, soft off does not
work...

Bug#380086: totem (totem-xine) crashes always on launch wth an error:

2007-01-26 Thread Yves Lambert

Aurelien Jarno wrote:

Hi,

Could you please retry with glibc 2.5 to see if the problem is fixed?
It is available in experimental.

This works for me.
afair the problem seemed to be related to libc6-i686 - which is
expected to be optimized for AMD architecture too. I am shipping
libc6-i686 2.5-0exp3 and glibc/libc6 2.5-0exp3. Totem works fine.
I experienced another probably reproducible totem crash but this one is
most probably not due to glibc but totem iself.

I blame myself not to have provided a basic test and not to have
reported before that it worked for me since 2.5.0 first or second
experimental package.

Bug#357439: traceback just /before/ crash

2006-08-09 Thread Yves Lambert

I hope this can be useful:

My video card is a nvdia. I am using nv module.
With --sync option the signal is received in glXMakeCurrent () from
/usr/lib/libGL.so.1
the instruction that raise the exception is 0xa7e2bf9e (8th instruction
of glXMakeCurrent)

It seems that glXMakeCurrent is guilty (anyhow if amaya provided
invalid arguments to glXMakeCurrent, glXMakeCurrent should raise an
exception.)

I broke on glXMakeCurrent and ran step by step.
The signal is received during execution of 0xa7e2bf9e in glXMakeCurrent.
I made a trace just *before* the execution of the instruction (here is
gdb full output)

Bug#378134: gimp data version and gimp version aren't the same (experimental)

2006-07-13 Thread Yves Lambert

Package: gimp
Version: 2.3.9-1
Severity: serious

(closing bug #378130 severity: normal because of wrong version of gimp)
gimp data version is 2.3.10-1 in experimental. This package replaces
gimp 2.3.9-1
gimp version 2.3.9-1: this package cannot be installed as gimp data
2.3.9-1

is unavailable.
I did not install gimp data 2.3.10-1 yet. Problems with this package
should be related to this bug. If there is some (dependancies and
so...) I will forward it to this bug.

Bug#358569: gnome: yelp galeon and epiphany crash in latest unstable

2006-03-23 Thread Yves Lambert
Subject: gnome: yelp galeon and epiphany crash in latest unstable
Package: gnome
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

*** Please type your report below this line ***
galeon 2.0.1-3, yelp 2.12-4 and epiphany-browser 1.8.5-2 crash in unstable
environment. It seems to be a regression and maybe related to a Mozilla bug
in 1.7*. Epiphany-browser 1.8.3-4 yelp 2.12-2 and galeon 2.0.0-2 work fine
(with all other gnome packages in latest release) and Mozilla 1.7.12
