Since this is ok to you, you'll confirm this. BUT: debootstrap does not, as mentioned, overwrite files, instead it stops as soon as a file it tries to unpack exists. I'd awaited debootstrap to do waht it warned me for before it started: intentionally overwrite files. I suppose this a bug, since debootstrap did warn before it would overwrite files!
Bug#884116: linux-image-4.9.0-4-amd64: screen atrifacts then crash
Package: src:linux Version: 4.9.65-3 Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? I did an upgrade today and linux image was upgraded from 4.9.51-1 to 4.9.65-3. * What was the outcome of this action? Various screen artifacts appear under Xorg, fortunately the console still works so I can write this report. The most noticeable artifact is the whole screen image shifting to the right then back very fast. Artifacts are more violent under compiz but they appear with xfwm4 too. And then after a while the system crashes, no response to the keyboard/mouse. Reverting to linux-image-4.9.0-3-amd64 makes the problem go away. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 4.9.0-4-amd64 (debian-ker...@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 6.3.0 20170516 (Debian 6.3.0-18) ) #1 SMP Debian 4.9.65-3 (2017-12-03) ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-4.9.0-4-amd64 root=UUID=e9287df1-d10d-4d6e-8910-7887cf5e5900 ro quiet ** Tainted: O (4096) * Out-of-tree module has been loaded. ** Kernel log: Unable to read kernel log; any relevant messages should be attached ** Model information sys_vendor: To be filled by O.E.M. product_name: To be filled by O.E.M. product_version: To be filled by O.E.M. chassis_vendor: To Be Filled By O.E.M. chassis_version: To Be Filled By O.E.M. bios_vendor: American Megatrends Inc. bios_version: 5.6.5 board_vendor: INTEL Corporation board_name: CRESCENTBAY board_version: To be filled by O.E.M. ** Loaded modules: dm_mod binfmt_misc rfcomm joydev hid_generic usbhid pci_stub vboxpci(O) vboxnetadp(O) vboxnetflt(O) vboxdrv(O) bnep uas btusb btrtl btbcm btintel usb_storage bluetooth crc16 intel_rapl x86_pkg_temp_thermal intel_powerclamp coretemp kvm_intel kvm irqbypass crct10dif_pclmul crc32_pclmul snd_hda_codec_hdmi ghash_clmulni_intel intel_cstate arc4 rt2800pci rt2800mmio rt2800lib rt2x00pci rt2x00mmio rt2x00lib iTCO_wdt eeprom_93cx6 iTCO_vendor_support evdev mac80211 intel_uncore cfg80211 crc_ccitt intel_rapl_perf pcspkr rfkill sg snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_hda_codec_generic snd_hda_intel battery i915 snd_hda_codec dw_dmac snd_soc_ssm4567 snd_soc_rt5640 snd_soc_sst_acpi dw_dmac_core video snd_soc_sst_match elan_i2c acpi_als snd_soc_rl6231 snd_hda_core snd_soc_core snd_hwdep snd_compress snd_pcm drm_kms_helper snd_timer snd drm kfifo_buf soundcore acpi_pad button industrialio i2c_algo_bit shpchp lpc_ich mfd_core parport_pc ppdev lp sunrpc parport ip_tables x_tables autofs4 xfs raid10 raid456 async_raid6_recov async_memcpy async_pq async_xor async_tx xor raid6_pq libcrc32c crc32c_generic raid1 multipath linear raid0 md_mod sd_mod crc32c_intel aesni_intel aes_x86_64 glue_helper lrw gf128mul ablk_helper cryptd i2c_i801 i2c_smbus ahci libahci libata ehci_pci ehci_hcd xhci_pci scsi_mod xhci_hcd r8169 mii usbcore usb_common fan thermal sdhci_acpi sdhci mmc_core i2c_hid hid i2c_designware_platform i2c_designware_core ** PCI devices: 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Host Bridge -OPI [8086:1604] (rev 09) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Host Bridge -OPI [8086:1604] Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx- Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- SERR- Kernel driver in use: bdw_uncore 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Iris Graphics 6100 [8086:162b] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Iris Graphics 6100 [8086:162b] Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx+ Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- SERR- TAbort- SERR- TAbort- SERR- TAbort- SERR- TAbort- SERR- TAbort- Reset- FastB2B- PriDiscTmr- SecDiscTmr- DiscTmrStat- DiscTmrSERREn- Capabilities: [40] Express (v2) Root Port (Slot-), MSI 00 DevCap: MaxPayload 128 bytes, PhantFunc 0 ExtTag- RBE+ DevCtl: Report errors: Correctable- Non-Fatal- Fatal- Unsupported- RlxdOrd- ExtTag- PhantFunc- AuxPwr- NoSnoop- MaxPayload 128 bytes, MaxReadReq 128 bytes DevSta: CorrErr- UncorrErr- FatalErr- UnsuppReq- AuxPwr+ TransPend- LnkCap: Port #1, Speed 5GT/s, Width x1, ASPM L0s L1, Exit Latency L0s <1us, L1 <4us ClockPM- Surprise- LLActRep+ BwNot+ ASPMOptComp- LnkCtl: ASPM Disabled; RCB 64 bytes Disabled- CommClk- ExtSynch- ClockPM- AutWidDis- BWInt- AutBWInt- LnkSta: Speed 2.5GT/s, Width x0, TrErr- Train- SlotClk+ DLActive- BWMgmt- ABWMgmt- RootCtl: ErrCorrectable- ErrNon-Fatal- ErrFatal- PMEIntEna+ CRSVisible- RootCap: CRSVisible- RootSta: PME ReqID , PMEStatus- PMEPending-

Package: cron Version: 3.0pl1-127+deb8u1 Severity: critical Tags: security Justification: root security hole Hi Debian Security Team: I recently started to read the source code of Cron / Crontab and I think I found a vulnerability in that. I found that in file "database.c" # http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-cron/pkg-cron.git/tree/database.c?h=debian/3.0pl1-128 load_database(...) -> process_crontab(...) -> force_rescan_user(...) free(u);# line 600 ... link_user(new_db, u); # line 609 "u" have been freed but still put it into link_user(...). link_user(...) connect the freed "u" to a linked-list. So, if the program use the "new_db" later, the program will segment fault. Ex. In "cron.c" find_jobs(...) will use the freed "u" And there is a condition to step into force_rescan_user(...). In file "database.c" line 599 if ((u->name = strdup(fname)) == NULL) { free(u); errno = ENOMEM; } But I think in a low-memory machine or embedded system the condition can be ignored : ) p.s. I think other Linux distribution like ubuntu also have this vulnerablity Above is the detail of this vulnerability. Thanks :) -- Package-specific info: --- EDITOR: --- /usr/bin/editor: /bin/nano --- /usr/bin/crontab: -rwxr-sr-x 1 root crontab 36008 Jun 11 2015 /usr/bin/crontab --- /var/spool/cron: drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Jun 7 2015 /var/spool/cron --- /var/spool/cron/crontabs: drwx-wx--T 2 root crontab 4096 Dec 27 14:22 /var/spool/cron/crontabs --- /etc/cron.d: drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 27 14:07 /etc/cron.d --- /etc/cron.daily: drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 27 14:07 /etc/cron.daily --- /etc/cron.hourly: drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 27 14:07 /etc/cron.hourly --- /etc/cron.monthly: drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 27 14:07 /etc/cron.monthly --- /etc/cron.weekly: drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 27 14:07 /etc/cron.weekly -- System Information: Debian Release: 8.1 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages cron depends on: ii adduser 3.113+nmu3 ii debianutils 4.4+b1 ii dpkg 1.17.25 ii init-system-helpers 1.22 ii libc62.19-18 ii libpam-runtime 1.1.8-3.1 ii libpam0g 1.1.8-3.1 ii libselinux1 2.3-2 ii lsb-base 4.1+Debian13+nmu1 Versions of packages cron recommends: pn exim4 | postfix | mail-transport-agent Versions of packages cron suggests: pn anacron pn checksecurity ii logrotate 3.8.7-1+b1 Versions of packages cron is related to: pn libnss-ldap pn libnss-ldapd pn libpam-ldap pn libpam-mount pn nis pn nscd -- no debconf information

Bug#769682: (no subject)
Subject: jenkins-tomcat: Secure and HttpOnly flags are not set for cookies with Jenkins on Tomcat Package: jenkins-tomcat Version: 1.565.3-2.1 Severity: grave Tags: security Dear Maintainer, The Jenkins currently shipped with Debian doesn't correctly set the HttpOnly and Secure options on session cookies. The first option prohibits the cookies to be read by scripts, thus preventing XSS scripts vulnerabilities from stealing sessions. The second option prohibits the session cookie to be sent over clear HTTP connection, thus preventing malvolent users to steal session cookie while redirecting users to HTTP access. There is already an upstream bug for this problem located at this url: https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-25019 with a proposed fix that only adresses the HttpOnly issue for Tomcat. Bug#586056: grub-pc: update-grub fails with Invalid parameter
Package: grub-pc Version: 1.98+20100614-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable The latest grub introduces a change to the argument processing for grub-mkconfig. Now, rather than ignoring unknown arguments, it produces an error. This is a problem because the kernel image postinst script invokes the postinst_hook (defined in /etc/kernel-img.conf to be update-grub, a wrapper for grub-mkconfig) with arguments that appear to be the kernel version and path. These arguments were previously ignored, but now produce an error. Because of this, kernel image configuration will always fail. Here's an example (yes this is a sidux kernel, but I don't think the postinst is significantly different in this regard): $ sudo dpkg --configure -a -D3 Setting up linux-image-2.6.34-0.slh.9-sidux-686 (2.6.34-10) ... Bug#566844: libc6 causing Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info

If there is anything that I can do, please let me know. I have to say I am out of idea. I am only able to reproduce the behaviour you observed when using adjunct passwords (this is actually what the security issue fixed), but at the same time you told me you are not using adjunct passwords. Well, I decided to do some searching around in hopes of coming up with some new ideas. I've never used adjunct passwords before, so I never really knew what they were. After doing some research online, do adjunct passwords mean that you put a ##username in the passwd file for each of the users? If so, I think that might be the problem. We use a custom PAM authentication module that we wrote to do a special type of kerberos authentication. And our passwd file contains the special kerberos principal in the password field, so for instance, our users would have passwd entries like this: username1:##ABC12:123:100:Name:/home/dir1:/bin/tcsh username2:##CAB21:124:100:Name:/home/dir2:/bin/tcsh username3:##I#XYZ12:125:100:Name:/home/dir3:/bin/tcsh username4:##E#ZYX21:125:100:Name:/home/dir4:/bin/tcsh We use the ## to determine whether or not we should use our authentication module or not. Is the new libc6 just looking for the ## in the beginning and using that to determine whether or not the passwd file is using adjunct passwords or not? If so, is there any other way to determine adjunct passwords because I'm guessing that, that must be causing the problem. In other words, the new libc6 is seeing our special password entries and simply removing them. Yes, the new glibc only looks for the ## at the beginning of the passwd entry to detect the adjunct passwords. Actually this part hasn't changed in the new glibc, it's only the corresponding action that has changed. Before it was doing a new query to the NIS server to get the adjunct password and merge it. With the new version merges a 'x' instead, as the real merge is now done in the shadow part. So even before it seems your system was doing a lot of useless NIS requests to the server, even though it harms less than in the current status. I will look if the adjunct password detection can be improved. Like I said, I don't know much about how adjunct passwords work, or the underlying authentication system itself, but could you just leave the ## entry there instead of putting the x in there? Or would that cause problems? I completely understand why the actual password would be put in the shadow part, but would it hurt to just leave the ## entry there in the password field? Thanks, and please let me know if I can do anything to help. -- Aurelien Jarno GPG: 1024D/F1BCDB73 aurel...@aurel32.net http://www.aurel32.net
Bug#566844: libc6 causing Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info
Is more information needed from me? Or is there anything I can do to expedite this bug fix? I've got 138 machines in an unstable state because I can't do updates on them because of this libc6 issue. If there is anything that I can do, please let me know. Thank you! On Wed, 27 Jan 2010, root wrote: On Mon, 25 Jan 2010, Aurelien Jarno wrote: On Mon, Jan 25, 2010 at 09:08:08AM -0500, root wrote: Package: libc6 Version: 2.7-18 Severity: critical Justification: breaks unrelated software I'm running Debian Lenny with a stock 2.6.26-2 AMD64 kernel, and after upgrading any of my systems to use the latest libc6 package from debian-security (2.7-18lenny2), all of my systems that use NIS can no longer authenticate. All I get is Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info. If I upgrade a system to 2.7-18lenny2, I immediately start having problems, and as soon as I revert back to 2.7-18, everything works perfectly. I've been using the same NIS setup for close to 5 years now, and have been moving it along from Sarge, to Etch, to Lenny without any problems...until now. I am sorry about that. This security update was there to prevent leaking adjunct passwords to normal users. My /etc/nsswitch.conf: passwd: compat group: compat shadow: compat Like I said, I am using NIS, however both the NIS master server and the NIS clients both break when I upgrade libc6 to 2.7-18lenny2. The NIS server is again, a stock Debian Lenny server. With the NIS server, I am combining the passwd/shadow files on the NIS server into just the passwd map (using the MERGE_PASSWD option). So the NIS clients don't actually see any shadow file entries for any of the NIS accounts. Ok, so users were able to login even if there was no shadow entry. I've also tried changing the nsswitch.conf file to: passwd: nis files group: nis files shadow: files You'll notice I left the nis option off of the shadow entry, since there's no need for it, since there's no shadow map. My guess is that, this is the cause of the problem...In other words, because the system isn't seeing shadow entries, it's bailing out. But why all of a sudden did this break in the latest libc6? And is there a way to get the old functionality back? What the changes did is to stop merging adjunct passwords to the passwd database, and merge them in the shadow database instead. There is no new requirement for shadow entries. If you are not using adjunct password, no changes should have happened for you. As it doesn't work, it seems something has broken, we have to understand why. FYI, I have just done a NIS setup using the MERGE_PASSWD option, and only compat entries into /etc/nsswitch.conf, and I don't see this problem. I will need more informations to debug this: - Are you using adjunct passwords in addition to merged passwords? No. - As I understand, you have upgraded libc6 on both the NIS server and the clients. Bug#566844: libc6 causing Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info
On Fri, 12 Feb 2010, Aurelien Jarno wrote: root a écrit : Is more information needed from me? Or is there anything I can do to expedite this bug fix? I've got 138 machines in an unstable state because I can't do updates on them because of this libc6 issue. If there is anything that I can do, please let me know. Bug#528754: kdelibs do not build without avahi
Package: kdelibs Version: 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-2 Severity: serious Justification: no longer builds from source I have found, that it is not possible to turn off some questionable features, like dnssd. patch debian/patches/98_buildprep.diff makes ./configure fail without libavahi-dev installed. That is true for Debian/unstable users. Is that correct, that zeroconf, dnssd, auto-configuration, auto-publication, auto-discovery, etc. services are now the core of KDE and not the optional usability improvements (sometimes unneeded), that opens additional attack vectors (silently)? If so, why is it true for Debian and not true for upstream? Still, it is possible (by hand-editing patch files) to compile debianized kdelibs without extra dependencies on libavahi. So here is the additional wishlist: * fix the ./configure, put back or add new --without- and --disable- options * split all the questionable improvements into separate packages * make kdelibs Suggest such features or Recommend, but not Depend on them. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-spg (SMP w/2 CPU cores; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.KOI8-R (charmap=KOI8-R) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages kdelibs depends on: ii kdelibs-data 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-2 core shared data for all KDE appli ii kdelibs4c2a4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-2 core libraries and binaries for al kdelibs recommends no packages. kdelibs suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#512660: ocsinventory-server cannot work 'cause many files are missing
Package: ocsinventory-server Version: 1.01-6 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable After installing ocsinventory-server, it doesn't work, because while the database has been created, there is no tables inside it. The indications given in /usr/share/doc/ocsinventory-server/README.Debian are mainly wrong : Database The Debian package uses dbconfig to automatically create the database user and the database. The schema and data will be created by the install.php script (see later for instructions). If you choose not to use dbconfig, you will have to create them manually, and configure files /etc/ocsinventory/dbconfig.inc.php and /etc/ocsinventory/ocsinventory.conf Important: even if the debian package allows to change the database name, using a different name from the default (ocsweb) will probably cause problems, as the name is hardcoded in many files. Bug#497056: lsb-base: /lib/lsb/init-functions NON-DSFG Licence ?
Package: lsb-base Version: 3.2-19 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 2.1 Please investigate if files included in lsb-base conform to DFSG. A lincense change to GPL would be better suited for Debian. Policy / 2.1. The Debian Free Software Guidelines: ... Derived Works The license must allow modifications and derived works, and must allow them to be distributed under the same terms as the license of the original software. Integrity of The Author's Source Code The license may restrict source-code from being distributed in modified form _only_ if the license allows the distribution of patch files with the source code for the purpose of modifying the program at build time. The license must explicitly permit distribution of software built from modified source code. Bug#395564: xserver-xorg: X server enters cpu loop on startup following 7.1 upgrade
Package: xserver-xorg Version: 1:7.1.0-5 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable I just updated my workstation yesterday after the new version of X.org hit testing; previously I was running 7.0-22 (? - whatever used to be the version in testing.) On X server startup, the server process goes into a CPU loop and does not exit (or do anything useful) -- kill -9 is required to stop it. I have attached my latest Xorg.0.log file and configuration file for your reading pleasure, but don't see anything interesting to my eyes in either. This appears to be distinct from bug 344110, in that strace -p pid does not report any calls occurring, so either I don't understand how to use it :-) or the loop is occurring in program code only. *** /etc/X11/xorg.conf # XF86Config-4 (XFree86 X server configuration file) generated by dexconf, the # Debian X Configuration tool, using values from the debconf database. # # Edit this file with caution, and see the XF86Config-4 manual page. # (Type man XF86Config-4 at the shell prompt.) # # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xfree86 package upgrades *only* # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xfree86 # package. # # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated # again, run the following commands as root: # # cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.custom # md5sum /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /var/lib/xfree86/XF86Config-4.md5sum # dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 Section Files FontPathunix/:7100# local font server # if the local font server has problems, we can fall back on these FontPath/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1 FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1 FontPath/usr/share/fonts/X11/CID FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/CID FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo FontPath/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc FontPath/usr/share/fonts/X11/cyrillic FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic FontPath/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi FontPath/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi EndSection Section Module Loadbitmap Loaddbe Loadddc Loadextmod Loadfreetype Loadglx Loadint10 Loadrecord Loadtype1 Loadvbe Loadcfb Loadcfb32 EndSection Section InputDevice Identifier Generic Keyboard Driver keyboard Option CoreKeyboard # Option XkbRules sun # Option XkbModel type5 Option XkbRules xfree86 Option XkbModel pc104 Option XkbLayout us EndSection Section InputDevice Identifier Configured Mouse Driver mouse Option CorePointer # Option Device/dev/sunmouse # Option Protocol BusMouse Option Device/dev/input/mouse0 Option Protocol PS/2 EndSection Section InputDevice Identifier Generic Mouse Driver mouse Option SendCoreEventstrue Option Device/dev/input/mice Option Protocol ImPS/2 EndSection Section Device Identifier Sun Creator 3D Driver sunffb EndSection Section Monitor Identifier Sun Monitor HorizSync 30-94 VertRefresh 50-75 Option DPMS EndSection Section Screen Identifier Default Screen Device Sun Creator 3D Monitor Sun Monitor DefaultDepth24 SubSection Display Depth 1 Modes 1600x1200 1024x768 EndSubSection SubSection Display Depth 4 Modes 1600x1200 1024x768 EndSubSection SubSection Display Depth 8 Modes 1600x1200 1024x768 EndSubSection SubSection Display Depth 15 Modes 1600x1200 1024x768 EndSubSection SubSection Display Depth 16 Modes 1600x1200 1024x768 EndSubSection SubSection Display Depth 24 Modes 1600x1200 1024x768 EndSubSection EndSection Section ServerLayout Identifier Default Layout Screen Default Screen InputDevice Generic Keyboard InputDevice

Bug#318572: amule: Extra information
Package: amule Followup-For: Bug #318572 # apt-get install amule Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that the package is simply not installable and a bug report against that package should be filed. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: amule: Depends: libwxbase2.4 (= 2.4.3.1) but it is not installable Depends: libwxgtk2.4 (= 2.4.3.1) but it is not installable E: Broken packages -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-1-386 Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Please upgrade. Thanks for your report though. Since sarge is frozen and you uploaded only to unstable I fear that unless something is done sarge will not have this bug fixed. I suspect either a seperate upload with only the bugfixes for testing-updates or hinting from a release manager is needed.
