Bug#293556: Similar problems

2006-10-09 Thread Andreas Barth
severity 293556 important
thanks

* martin f krafft ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) [060811 07:03]:
GPG has failed me on numerous occasions in the past week. Usually,
 I'd find ~/.gnupg/pubring.pgp.tmp next to a zero-sized
~/.gnupg/pubring.pgp, and the damage would be easily solved. Today
it started to truncate the file:

 -rw--- 1 madduck madduck 3725 2006-08-11 14:53 pubring.gpg
 -rw--- 1 madduck madduck 0 2006-08-11 14:53 pubring.gpg~

I also have backups, and it's arguable whether the pubring is data
that needs to be guarded (I'd say YES), but this is clearly not
 acceptable.

I don't want to say everything is nice (and please feel free to
continue working on this bug), but I don't think this bug is
release-critical aka we need to fix it prior to release. So, setting
severity back to important (aka this is an ugly bug and should be
fixed).

Cheers,
Andi

I almost agree. Even though I *have* lost data to this bug, I have
not been able to work my way forward. It is a real bitch.

Anyway, wouldn't it be better to leave it at grave (aka causes
data loss) but tag it etch-ignore because

  - I don't think we'll be able to fix it in time
  - gnupg cannot be removed from etch
