Bug#323687: diveintopython: [NONFREE-DOC:GFDL1.1] does not comply with DFSG

2005-11-07 Thread Ross Burton
Upstream has been contacted about this, when he replies I shall either
upload a new release under a new license, or move it to non-free.

Bug#323687: diveintopython: [NONFREE-DOC:GFDL1.1] does not comply with DFSG

2005-08-17 Thread Francesco Poli
Package: diveintopython
Version: 5.4-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.2.1

Hi!

_Dive into Python_ is released under the GNU FDL license (version 1.1),
although with no unmodifiable & unremovable parts (i.e. Invariant
Sections, Front/Back-Cover Texts, ...).
Nonetheless, the consensus on debian-legal is that a work licensed
under the terms of the GNU FDL v1.1 does not meet the DFSG, even if it
does not include unmodifiable & unremovable parts.

Consequently _Dive into Python_ does not comply with the DFSG.

Upstream author should be contacted and asked to relicense
the document in a DFSG-free manner (for instance under the
GNU GPL or possibly under a dual GFDL/GPL license)

If upstream does not agree to such license change, the package
should be moved to the non-free section :-(
