Bug#340439: firestarter: denial of service

2006-02-19 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi Yann,

Should this bug report actually be grave? From the description, it doesn't
sound to me as though it makes the package unusable; do you disagree?

Thanks,

I don't think that the bug shoud be reported as grave. But it depends on what
usage of firestarter is done. If people use it as a graphical firewall (not
only as a graphical configuration tool), firestarter has indeed some serious
problems of performance. In all others cases, there is no problem.

Bye,

Yann.

Bug#340439: firestarter: denial of service

2005-11-23 Thread Rossen Naydenov
Subject: firestarter: denial of service
Package: firestarter
Version: 1.0.3-1.1
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

*** Please type your report below this line ***
when reconfiguring the firewall (from menu -> run wizard) and finally pressing
save button, the gui interface is becomming unresponsive. Although the iptable
rules are already saved the interface stays unresponsive.
The same thing happens if I use nmap to scan the network - the gui becomes
unresponsive. After a while though the gui becomes responsive and I can see
the events, but not in real time.

thanks

There is already a bug which has probably the same causes (I added here your
request) :
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=311494

For the moment, a workaround may be :

* Don't use the GUI after you have configured the firewall. I think there is
the same problem for all graphical firewalls when ports are scanned, but it's
true that firestarter is not the best for this.

* Or, disable events displaying :
In /etc/firestarter/configuration, set the LOG_LEVEL variable as this :
# System log level
LOG_LEVEL=debug

Regards,

Yann.
