I just built the enigmail source package using CC='ccache gcc-3.4' debian/rules clean binary and it worked fine (in fact this email will be signed using the resulting package). Perhaps it is a GCC bug? I played around with adding extra libs and checking for extern decls. but didn't find a problem in the enigmail package, though my search was not at all exhaustive.
In the mean time it might be useful to use & depend on gcc-3.4 (if that can be done?) to reduce the ill-effect of this problem. -Ted
