These bugs are grave bug because they make attachments too hard to
 access.

 Fix is pending.

this bug is a stable only issue.

Huh? Did you mix up the bug numbers? #383344 talks about the AMD64
startup issue and is reported in 1.5.0.5-1, so how can this be fixed
in 1.5-1 and why is it stable only?

I'm not sure, whether this bug is reproducible somewhere else, but the
closing agruments look strange to me...

Bug#383344: thunderbird: crashes on startup

2006-08-19 Thread Alexander Sack
here we go:

1. add the lines of my unstable archive to your sources.list:

  deb http://people.debian.org/~asac/unstable ./
  deb-src http://people.debian.org/~asac/unstable ./

1a. apt-get update (aptitude update)

2. get sources:

apt-get source thunderbird

3. install build essentials:

   aptitude install build-essential

4. switch to the source directory (cd thunderbird-1.5.0.5)

5. run dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot

It will fail naming missing build dependencies. Install those
packages too, until the package starts to build fine.

6. the build will fail at the end because you don't have my key. This
is no problem

7. install all debs: dpkg -i thunderbird*1.5.0.5-2*deb

8. run thunderbird with debug:

  thunderbird --debug
  (gdb) run

9. as soon as it crashes, use:
   (gdb) bt

to print a good backtrace, like (see the source files and lines mentioned).

10. post that one.

If I need more information, I will let you know.

Thanks!

I did a 'useradd -m test' , switched the user in Gnome to 'test',

Bug#383344: thunderbird: crashes on startup

2006-08-16 Thread Leszek Koltunski

Package: thunderbird
Version: 1.5.0.5-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

typing 'thunderbird' at the console results in

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ thunderbird
/usr/lib/thunderbird/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 2809 Segmentation fault
$prog ${1+$@}

the same happens when I try 'thunderbird -safe-mode':

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ thunderbird -safe-mode
/usr/lib/thunderbird/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 4055 Segmentation fault
$prog ${1+$@}

Of course, trying to launch the program from Gnome's menu results in a
silent failure.
