Can you be more verbose? I'm not really an TeX expert, but I want the
bugs to disappear. If there is anything what I can do please say so, but
at least I failed to apply the solutions in the bug reports.

I've fixed the ja_JP LaTeX output in the CVS.
Problem was that "dnp" was between {} and not [].

I'm confident that this bug (#397571) is solved after new
debiandoc-sgml and debian-reference packages have been released.

Cheers

2006-11-08 Thread 韓達耐

Okay, I checked out the SGML-generated .tex file, and it seems very
much that Perl or something else misinterprets some of the CJK
characters.

The command I used to create the .tex file was:
debiandoc2latex -l zh_TW.Big5 reference.zh-tw.sgml

Examples of these misinterpreted characters:

in titledoc.sgml: 程 -> 琵{

in preface.sgml:  開 -> 跚}
  閱 -> 閱textbackslash{}
  誤 -> 蓋textasciitilde{}

in system.sgml:   開 -> 跚}
  起 -> 豹_
  址 -> 吭}
  ) -> ﹏textasciicircum{}
  閱 -> 閱textbackslash{}
  復 -> 廄_
  途 -> 許textasciitilde{}
  否 -> 吭_
  現 -> 淚{
  功 -> 功textbackslash{}
  許 -> 許textbackslash{}
  蓋 -> 蓋textbackslash{}
  認 -> 蓋{
  回 -> 吒textasciicircum{}
  業 -> 愧textasciitilde{}
  才 -> 么textasciitilde{}
  外 -> 功textasciitilde{}
  英 -> 苒textasciicircum{}
  年 -> 吒textasciitilde{}
  破 -> 珮}
  腳 -> 稞}

in install.sgml:  斷 -> 擺_
  品 -> 俞textasciitilde{}
  繼 -> 孀textasciitilde{}
  洞 -> 枯}

in tutorial.sgml: 慮 -> 墦{
  癮 -> 髏}
  良 -> 沔}

in debian.sgml:   冒 -> 俞_
  奇 -> 坼_

in kernel.sgml:   淘 -> 淚textasciicircum{}
  于 -> 么_

in tips.sgml: 稀 -> 琵}
  訛 -> 許_
  癖 -> 擺}

in tune.sgml: 擷 -> 擺textasciicircum{}
  鑰 -> 躡_
  漂 -> 暝}

in appendix.sgml: 貢 -> 豹textasciicircum{}

And perhaps a few other characters. I find it strange that not all
characters suffer from this problem, but only some. Perhaps Perl
doesn't have a complete map of the Big5 encoding?

A quick fix would perhaps be to put everything in a sed script.

Because of the many \text* commands it's best to keep using "bg5latex"
instead of just "latex", which apparently doesn't work. Fixing the
FTBS is much more important now ATM, so let's stick to bg5latex.

And on a sidenote, in zh-tw/install.sgml "Windwos 95/98/Me" should
become "Windows 95/98/Me" of course.

Best regards from a sleepy man

Same problem as debian-reference and debian-zh-faq, this time in the

Why do you think these are a problem? How do they Build-depend on

OK, that's noted. It probably only needs a switch from the HBF fonts
to the DNP Type1 fonts (see other email).

Sorry, both packages recommend cjk-latex. There's no Build-Depend.
I just need to contact the packager. Please disregard this.

Thanks. I uploaded debiandoc-sgml and one more package today.

I will do debian-reference later.(once debiandoc-sgml hit unstable)

I have tried this, and there are still issues.

First of all, debian-reference as currently in sid (is there a public
repository somewhere?) needs to depend (at least) on latex-cjk-chinese
and latex-cjk-chinese-arphic-bkai00mp.

If I install these packages, reference.zh-tw.pdf still fails. The first
error is:

! Improper alphabetic constant.

   \textbackslash
l.102 ...textbf{shell O}d[\textbackslash

{}tzUVC
]A...
A one-character control sequence belongs after a ` mark.
So I'm essentially inserting \0 here.

This looks like an encoding problem?

debian-reference hasn't been updated yet in sid.
You can get the source from http://qref.sourceforge.net/ .

After building it, you get the unified .sgml files.
Then make the TeX files using these commands:
  debiandoc2latex -l ja reference.ja.sgml
  debiandoc2latex -l zh_TW reference.zh-tw.sgml
  debiandoc2latex -l zh_CN reference.zh-cn.sgml

Hmmm, I created the TeX file outside a pbuilder environment, copied it
into a pbuilder environment and it works, of course after installing
latex-cjk-all, latex-cjk-japanese-wadalab and
latex-cjk-chinese-arphic-{bkai00mp,bsmi00lp,gbsn00lp,gkai00mp}

I can compile it, until line 4174 because I hit a TeX capacity

Oops, I forgot to run "bin/fixlatex" on it. debiandoc2latex doesn't
provide an "s" function like the other debiandoc2* commands. It's in
my TODO list.

Anyway, I've reuploaded a correct zh_TW version now, and zh_TW works
in my pbuilder, even with the unpatched TeXlive.

Which texlive packages are needed? I tried to build debian-reference
from CVS, it works with tetex, but with texlive I get "TeX capacity
exceeded [max font recursion limit=10]". After increasing each capacity
in 95NonPath.cnf that looks like it has to do with fonts, I get a
different error:

So, I have proceeded a bit, but there's still problems. I use
debian-reference_1.09-4, and the following texlive packages (plus there
Depends:) installed:

texlive-latex-extra texlive-latex-recommended texlive-fonts-recommended

(that makes

ii texlive-base 2005.dfsg.2-4 TeX Live: Essential programs and

ii texlive-base-bin 2005.dfsg.2-5 TeX Live: Essential binaries

ii texlive-pictures 2005.dfsg.2-4 TeX Live: Drawing and graphing
packages

).

Now I get

[12
! TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [max level recursion of virtual fonts=10].

   \endgroup [EMAIL PROTECTED]@protect
l.666

The other error I reported in the mail to Danai was probably because an
unfinished aux file was still around, just forget about it.

Indeed, pdftex.ch has

@ The |do_vf_packet| procedure is called in order to interpret the
character packet for a virtual character. Such a packet may contain the
instruction to typeset a character from the same or an other virtual

recursion level, i.e., the number of times this has happened, is kept

@=
@!vf_max_recursion=10; {\.{VF} files shouldn't recurse beyond this level}
@!vf_stack_size=100; {\.{DVI} files shouldn't |push| beyond this depth}

But this is the same in teTeX-3.0: Why does it not happen with
tetex-bin?

I have exactly the same setting in my pbuilder environment.
That's a good list to include in the debian/control file of
debian-reference.

Great to hear that the patch also works for TeXlive, solving the
remaining issues! Now we can move to TeXlive as our default TeX
distribution for debian-reference and debiandoc-sgml.

Cheers!

Yes, but not all of them. I think texlive-latex-{extra,recommended} and
texlive-fonts-recommended will pull in all of them (maybe latex-base is
needed too?)

I can confirm this with a pbuilder build.

It (at least the upstream CVS) depends already on
latex-cjk-chinese-arphic-bkai00mp and latex-cjk-all which itself depends
on latex-cjk-chinese.

I can build it well in my etch system but pbuilder still has issues with
zh-tw:
debiandoc2latexpdf: ERROR: reference.zh-tw.pdf could not be generated properly
debiandoc2latexpdf: rerun with the -v option to found out why
debiandoc2latexpdf: or check the log file reference.zh-tw.log
make[1]: *** [reference.zh-tw.pdf] Error 1
make[1]: *** [reference.zh-tw.pdf] Error 1

I need to play with pbuilder to obtain the log file ...
"pbuilder debuild" started in the source directory doesn't try to build
the package.

No, outside pbuilder it works well.

Because tetex-bin has patch-pdftex-cjkfonts-overflow.  I have tested
with a patched texlive-bin, and Heureka, it builds debian-reference
fine.

I'll upload texlive-bin ASAP

What do you mean?
 sed s/foo/bar/

debiandoc2latex -s sed_script

as it can be used with debiandoc2latex{dvi,ps,pdf}

I added it to CVS. We need to test it and debug it.

But why we need it. since if it is debiandoc2latex, then latex source
is not intermediate but final file. We can run script on it without -s.
But if you need it for consistency of operation, new source may work
after debugging.

Good night.

Osamu

Indeed. pbuilder installed all of them automagically when I installed
the three packages you mention.

qref also needs things like texlive-language-vietnamese and others.
I think I'll try out Kevin McCarty's scripts mapping the files of
teTeX and TeXlive.
