Bug#403058: xtla: FTBFS: b-dep on emacs-snapshot, which is not in testing

2007-09-11 Thread Regis Boudin
Hi,

For the record, emacs-snapshot was removed from unstable as well, so xtla
definitely needs to be updated and this build-dep to be removed.

Bug#403058: xtla: FTBFS: b-dep on emacs-snapshot, which is not in testing

2006-12-14 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: xtla
Version: 1.2.1-1
Severity: serious
Justification: FTBFS on i386, very likely to fail everywhere else
Usertags: grid5000

Hi Matthieu,

During a rebuild of all packages in etch, I discovered that your package
failed to build on i386.

It build-depends on emacs-snapshot, which is not available in testing (see
#321676).

The full build log is available from
http://blop.info/bazaar/buildlogs/20061214/

About the archive rebuilt: The rebuilt was done on about 30 AMD64 nodes
of the Grid'5000 platform, using a clean chroot containing an etch i386
environment (not unstable). Internet was not accessible from the build
systems. The builds were processed as root.

About Grid'5000:
Grid'5000 is an highly reconfigurable experimental Grid platform
gathering 9 sites and featuring a total of 5000 CPUs. It serves as a
testbed for research in Grid Computing. See https://www.grid5000.fr/

 Hi Matthieu,

 #321676).

The purpose of this Build-Depends seems to be the creation of a
flavor-specific xtla-autoload.el. I see two possible solutions to this
problem:

- Generate the files once when the source package is built, and ship
them in the diff.gz. This might be the simpler short-term solution.
If emacs-snapshot is too much of a moving target, and the static
autoload.el file stops to work, then we're not better off with having
it statically in the deb, so this is no argument against having it in
  the diff.gz.

- Run configure and generate the autoload files at package install
time. AUCteX, another emacs-add on, does this already.

Regards, Frank
