Bug#458909: closed by Kenshi Muto [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Re: [Pkg-cups-devel] Bug#458909: cupsys: foomatic is not in dependency list - my laserjet wont print)
Hello! The bug I have reported was not in cupsys itself, but in dependencies - when foomatic-filters are in dependecy list, then I wouldnt have to wonder why my printer wont print even cups give no error in frontend. I have seen that foomatic-filters is an optional dependency - how can it be installed using apt-get? Thank You! Tomek

If cupsys has more Depends: to call more (not essential) packages, some people will become angry. Current solution for you is to use tasksel. tasksel provides print-server task. It will install: printconf hpijs foomatic-db-gutenprint cupsys-bsd foomatic-filters-ppds hplip foomatic-db-hpijs cupsys cupsys-client cupsys-driver-gutenprint foomatic-db-engine You can install the task by tasksel or aptitude. Bug#458909: cupsys: foomatic is not in dependency list - my laserjet wont print
Package: cupsys Version: 1.2.7-4etch2 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable CUPS does not depend on foomatic filters package that is needed to print. My HP LaserJet could be installed and set-up with config but didnt want to print, except it blinked LED once. I got the solution by tail -f /var/log/cups/error_log: E [03/Jan/2008:12:30:27 +0100] PID 4555 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip) stopped with status 22!
