I have built/installed bind9.4.2-4 from testing and will let you know
whether this fixes the problem. The build-deps for bind9.4.2-8 from
sid conflict with util-linux.

Could you check and see if the problem still exists with bind9.4.2
(which may require a recompile...)

thanks,

Bug#471865: bind9 dies with assertion failure adb.c:2617

2008-03-20 Thread Ben Holt
Package: bind9
Version: 9.3.4-2etch1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

bind9 dies with the following showing in the logs:

Mar 20 03:51:02 firewall named[5714]: adb.c:2617: INSIST(bucket == (-1)) failed
Mar 20 03:51:02 firewall named[5714]: exiting (due to assertion failure)

This has happened three times, all in the last five days. Prior to this bind9
had been running stable for months. No recent configuration changes
have been made.

This instance of bind9 provides local DNS lookups and is master for 4 public
facing slave servers for 17 domains. It does
not provide public lookups and is firewalled from the internet except for the
slave servers.

I have found bug #445781, however this appears to be a seperate issue with a
similar result.
