I'm tempted to downgrade it to important, since it's still possible to
use it with Sun Java6 JRE (6-06-1), but openjdk-6 is still in NEW, hence
the block.

I'm not sure upstream is likely to invest any time to double-check and
improve gcj support since Sun's JVMs are his main targets.

 Sunflow won't start properly and just shows a grey window. I tried
 starting in Wmii, Dwm and failsafe Gnome sessions. I also used Janino
 first and since then I have installed Sun Java6 JDK.  Sometimes it
 displays error messages (when starting from) in console and in the
 application window there is a broken dialogbox with a red x.

Could you double-check the alternative you're using? I believe gcj has
a higher priority. See sunflow's README.Debian, which contains pointers
for that.
