I installed a kernel with the patch referred to in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=526169#41 and the tiling persists. However I managed to solve the problem by setting the Tiling option to false as mentioned in https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21246#c10 Currently my /etc/X11/xorg.conf reads Section Device Identifier Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Driver intel Option Tiling false EndSection And I'm using a Thinkpad R50e. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.7.0-1 Severity: serious There is a serious problem with 2:2.7.0-1, even the xdm login screen is made into unreadable rectangular chunks. Downgrading to 2:2.6.1-1 fixes it. Here is a diff I made after downgrading. diff -U0 /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old /var/log/Xorg.0.log --- /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old 2009-04-30 00:35:23.0 +0800 +++ /var/log/Xorg.0.log 2009-04-30 00:51:33.0 +0800 @@ -14 +14 @@ -(==) Log file: /var/log/Xorg.0.log, Time: Thu Apr 30 00:30:22 2009 +(==) Log file: /var/log/Xorg.0.log, Time: Thu Apr 30 00:35:23 2009 @@ -116 +116 @@ - compiled for 1.6.1, module version = 2.7.0 + compiled for 1.5.99.901, module version = 2.6.1 @@ -121,2 +121,2 @@ - E7221 (i915), 915GM, 945G, 945GM, 945GME, IGD_GM, IGD_G, 965G, G35, - 965Q, 946GZ, 965GM, 965GME/GLE, G33, Q35, Q33, + E7221 (i915), 915GM, 945G, 945GM, 945GME, 965G, G35, 965Q, 946GZ, + 965GM, 965GME/GLE, G33, Q35, Q33, @@ -151,3 +150,0 @@ -(II) Loading sub module ramdac -(II) LoadModule: ramdac -(II) Module ramdac already built-in @@ -184 +181 @@ - compiled for 1.6.1, module version = 1.0.0 + compiled for 1.5.99.901, module version = 1.0.0 @@ -191 +188 @@ - compiled for 1.6.1, module version = 1.0.0 + compiled for 1.5.99.901, module version = 1.0.0 @@ -199 +196 @@ - compiled for 1.6.1, module version = 1.0.0 + compiled for 1.5.99.901, module version = 1.0.0 @@ -207 +204 @@ - compiled for 1.6.1, module version = 1.0.0 + compiled for 1.5.99.901, module version = 1.0.0 @@ -215 +212 @@ - compiled for 1.6.1, module version = 1.0.0 + compiled for 1.5.99.901, module version = 1.0.0 @@ -221 +217,0 @@ -(II) intel(0): Resizable framebuffer: not available (1 3) @@ -293,0 +290,2 @@ +(==) intel(0): Will not try to enable page flipping +(==) intel(0): Triple buffering disabled @@ -307,0 +306,3 @@ +(II) Loading sub module ramdac +(II) LoadModule: ramdac +(II) Module ramdac already built-in @@ -356,0 +358,3 @@ +(EE) intel(0): Failed to set tiling on front buffer: Invalid argument +(EE) intel(0): Failed to set tiling on back buffer: Invalid argument +(EE) intel(0): Failed to set tiling on depth buffer: Invalid argument @@ -358,0 +363 @@ +(II) intel(0): [drm] Initialized kernel agp heap manager, 33554432 @@ -359,0 +365 @@ +(II) intel(0): Page Flipping disabled @@ -370,6 +376,7 @@ -(II) intel(0): xf86BindGARTMemory: bind key 0 at 0x06df4000 (pgoffset 28148) -(II) intel(0): xf86BindGARTMemory: bind key 1 at 0x06df5000 (pgoffset 28149) -(II) intel(0): xf86BindGARTMemory: bind key 2 at 0x06df9000 (pgoffset 28153) -(II) intel(0): xf86BindGARTMemory: bind key 3 at 0x06dfa000 (pgoffset 28154) -(II) intel(0): xf86BindGARTMemory: bind key 4 at 0x06dfe000 (pgoffset 28158) -(II) intel(0): xf86BindGARTMemory: bind key 5 at 0x06dff000 (pgoffset 28159) +(II) intel(0): xf86BindGARTMemory: bind key 0 at 0x04df4000 (pgoffset 19956) +(II) intel(0): xf86BindGARTMemory: bind key 1 at 0x04df5000 (pgoffset 19957) +(II) intel(0): xf86BindGARTMemory: bind key 2 at 0x04df9000 (pgoffset 19961) +(II) intel(0): xf86BindGARTMemory: bind key 3 at 0x04dfa000 (pgoffset 19962) +(II) intel(0): xf86BindGARTMemory: bind key 4 at 0x04dfe000 (pgoffset 19966) +(II) intel(0): xf86BindGARTMemory: bind key 5 at 0x04dff000 (pgoffset 19967) +(II) intel(0): xf86BindGARTMemory: bind key 6 at 0x059ff000 (pgoffset 23039) @@ -378,2 +385,2 @@ -(II) intel(0): 0x007df000-0x06df3fff: DRI memory manager (104532 kB) -(II) intel(0): 0x06df4000-0x06df4fff: Core cursor (4 kB, 0x1e8cf000 physical +(II) intel(0): 0x007df000-0x04df3fff: DRI memory manager (71764 kB) +(II) intel(0): 0x04df4000-0x04df4fff: Core cursor (4 kB, 0x1e7f8000 physical @@ -381 +388 @@ -(II) intel(0): 0x06df5000-0x06df8fff: ARGB cursor (16 kB, 0x1e5b4000 physical +(II) intel(0): 0x04df5000-0x04df8fff: ARGB cursor (16 kB, 0x1e73c000 physical @@ -383 +390 @@ -(II) intel(0): 0x06df9000-0x06df9fff: Core cursor (4 kB, 0x1720f000 physical +(II) intel(0): 0x04df9000-0x04df9fff: Core cursor (4 kB, 0x1e94f000 physical @@ -385 +392 @@ -(II) intel(0): 0x06dfa000-0x06dfdfff: ARGB cursor (16 kB, 0x1ebc8000 physical +(II) intel(0): 0x04dfa000-0x04dfdfff: ARGB cursor (16 kB, 0x1e758000 physical @@ -387 +394 @@ -(II) intel(0): 0x06dfe000-0x06dfefff: overlay registers (4 kB, 0x1775d000 physical +(II) intel(0): 0x04dfe000-0x04dfefff: overlay registers (4 kB, 0x1e76e000 physical @@ -389 +396,2 @@ -(II) intel(0): 0x06dff000-0x079fefff: exa offscreen (12288 kB) +(II) intel(0): 0x04dff000-0x059fefff: exa offscreen (12288 kB) +(II) intel(0): 0x059ff000-0x079fefff: classic textures (32768 kB) @@ -393,4 +401,5 @@ -(II) intel(0): 0x0080-0x00bf: depth buffer (4096 kB) X tiled -(II) intel(0): 0x00c0-0x00ff: back buffer (4096 kB) X tiled -(II) intel(0): 0x0100-0x013f: front buffer (4096 kB) X tiled -(II) intel(0):
