Do you have any particular data you want me to request before and
during the update? As you saw, the error message was not very
informative.

If it's possible I'd be grateful. (Not that it it sure that it will give the
info we need to fix this, but...)

There were thousands of lines earlier, but they looked ok, and did not
look related. I think my theory at the time was that apt-get just
started to work on openoffice.org-emailmerge_1%3a3.1.1-8_all.deb and
encountered an error when doing that.

I removed Openoffice, and then the rest of the installation worked.

Sorry about that. I mainly wanted to get my system to work. I wrote
the email mainly to report that the bug happens to more than one
person.

I have a backup of the system from right before the upgrade. If you
are really interested, I can install that backup somewhere and try to
replicate the bug. But that requires quite a bit of effort, so I
don't want to do it unless it's necessary.

Eh? And where please is the actual error of this? Must be much more
above in the log.

Did you read? What did that do? Looks like dpkg/apt get confused because
the upgrade failed mid-upgrade and some packages already are the new
and some the old.

Helpful. Not.

Bug#561498: apt-get upgrade fails

2009-12-22 Thread Anton Ertl
I have a problem at the same package; the bug I see on "apt-get
dist-upgrade" (from Lenny to Squeeze) is:

Preparing to replace myspell-en-us 1:2.4.0-3 (using
.../myspell-en-us_1%3a3.2.0~beta-1_all.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement myspell-en-us ...
Processing triggers for man-db ...
Processing triggers for menu ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/openoffice.org-emailmerge_1%3a3.1.1-8_all.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

The I tried to see if persistence would help, but it didn't:

# apt-get dist-upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  openoffice.org-base: Depends: openoffice.org-base-core (=
1:2.4.1+dfsg-1+lenny3) but 1:3.1.1-8 is installed
  openoffice.org-base-core: Depends: openoffice.org-core (= 1:3.1.1-8) but
1:2.4.1+dfsg-1+lenny3 is installed
Depends: ure (>= 1.5.1) but it is not installed
  openoffice.org-calc: Depends: openoffice.org-core (= 1:3.1.1-8) but
1:2.4.1+dfsg-1+lenny3 is installed
Depends: ure (>= 1.5.1) but it is not installed
  openoffice.org-draw: Depends: openoffice.org-core (= 1:3.1.1-8) but
1:2.4.1+dfsg-1+lenny3 is installed
Depends: ure (>= 1.5.1) but it is not installed
  openoffice.org-impress: Depends: openoffice.org-core (= 1:3.1.1-8) but
1:2.4.1+dfsg-1+lenny3 is installed
Depends: ure (>= 1.5.1) but it is not installed
  openoffice.org-officebean: Depends: openoffice.org-core (= 1:3.1.1-8) but
1:2.4.1+dfsg-1+lenny3 is installed
  openoffice.org-writer: Depends: openoffice.org-core (= 1:3.1.1-8) but
1:2.4.1+dfsg-1+lenny3 is installed
Depends: ure (>= 1.5.1) but it is not installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f.

That's on an AMD64 system. Next I'll just try to get rid of
openoffice.
