If you're offering to help put together a new patch that would be
greatly appreciated. I have a patch that builds currently, but it
doesn't actually work (i.e. fails tests with kernel oops), so is worse
than no patch! I've not made much progress to tracking it down, but I
think both my path lookup and BKL removal handling is wrong.

[1] basically sums up the extent of my progress towards a patch.
Hacking the build to allow new version numbers is trivial, and I'm not
certain on the rest of the changes, so I've not let it loose.
