I tried it on this amd64/testing-system, on an amd64/sid-system, and on an i386 /testing-system. Is that in a chroot? openmpi-bin is known not to work in chroots, see #494046. Erm, can you try installing openmpi-bin, if you have that one not installed, and let me know if that fixes it?
