Bug#724711: insighttoolkit4: Drops architecture support

2013-09-26 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Source: insighttoolkit4
Version: 4.4.2-2
Severity: serious

Hi,

It seems that insighttoolkit4 4.4.2-2 restricted itself to support
i386 and amd64. The only reason I can find for that is that the
test suite had some errors on the other arches. I generally find
this a poor excuse to drop support for arches.

Since this is a new source package, this normally wouldn't be an
RC bug. But there are other source pacakges that now
build-depend on insighttoolkit4-dev and are now blocked because
of this, and they used to build on other arches.

It was not a decision taken lightly, I assure you. ITK v4 has been in
the archive for 1 year and 7 months. In all that time we were not
able to get it building on other architectures so it was never able to
enter testing. I believe Debian is better served by having two
supported architectures rather than zero.

Other packages are blocked not because the arches were dropped, but
because ITK isn't in testing. Dropping unsupported arches is simply
admitting reality.
