Bug#730267: libkrb5-dev: file conflict with heimdal-multidev: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/k{adm, rb5}*.pc

2013-11-25 Thread Benjamin Kaduk
Sam, were you planning to work on fixing this in krb5-multidev or should I
add it to my list?

Bug#730267: libkrb5-dev: file conflict with heimdal-multidev: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/k{adm, rb5}*.pc

2013-11-24 Thread Sam Hartman
I assume we're agreed that the -multidev packages should not conflict
with the libkrb5-dev or heimdal-dev packages.
That is, you can have both multidevv packages and one of the lib*-dev
packages installed?

So it's fine to have some mit-specific .*pc files in krb5-multidev, and
some heimdal-specific in heimdal-multidev, but not to have generic *.pc
files in either of the multidevs?

Makes sense?

Yep, exactly.

Package: libkrb5-dev
Version: 1.12~alpha1+dfsg-1
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package failed to install
because it tries to overwrite other packages files without declaring a
Breaks+Replaces relation.

See policy 7.6 at

Bug#730267: libkrb5-dev: file conflict with heimdal-multidev: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/k{adm, rb5}*.pc

Control: reassign -1 libkrb5-dev,heimdal-multidev

trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/kadm-client.pc',
which is also in package heimdal-multidev 1.6~git20131117+dfsg-2

The following files are in both packages:

 usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/kadm-client.pc
 usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/kadm-server.pc
 usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/krb5-gssapi.pc
 usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/krb5.pc

These files need to move to krb5-multidev in a different path and be
symlinked into that path by libkrb5-dev, and heimdal-multidev similarly
needs to install those files into a different path and symlink them into
that path in libheimdal-dev, now that both packages are providing them.

(Or, alternately, they could move to libkrb5-dev and libheimdal-dev
without the symlinks, but I think the symlinks are better since then users
of the -multidev packages have access to them via PKG_CONFIG_PATH.

Symlinks make sense I think. I'll have a look at fixing this in Heimdal.
