Hello,

I'm not a maintainer but just tried to reproduce this issue on two
different fresh headless systems and failed to do so.

nginx-full has been installed successfully on multiple tries on debian
unstable and debian testing.

As test setup I used:
a) An up-to-date, debootstraped system on an OpenVZ machine with kernel
2.6.32-042stab104.1.
b) A up-to-date system inside VirtualBox which has been installed from
an RC1-netinst media.

For those both amd64 systems I've set the locale to en_IN to match yours.

Have you made an aptitude update and aptitude safe-upgrade with non-CD
sources before trying to install nginx?

Also, are there any broken packages on your system? You can try
detecting and fixing those by issuing: aptitude -f install.

Have you already started another web server which has been bound to
TCP port 80? You should stop any of those services beforehand. Bound
ports can be seen by issuing sudo netstat -ntlp which also gives you
the name of the service.

Are there any related entries in /var/log/nginx/error.log? If the start
script for nginx fails, there's probably some information in the
error.log.

Checking /var/log/syslog and /var/log/messages could give helpful
messages as well.

Regards
Norbert Fischer

Look like this is the case with bug.

Shirish, can you check and revert back, please?

Package: nginx-full
Version: 1.6.2-5
Justification: renders package unusable
Severity: grave

Dear Maintainer,
I was trying to install nginx-full to learn and play with it and was
unable to install it.

I first looked at nginx package

$ aptitude show nginx
Package: nginx
State: not installed
Version: 1.6.2-5
Priority: optional
Section: httpd
Maintainer: Kartik Mistry kar...@debian.org
Architecture: all
Uncompressed Size: 101 k
Depends: nginx-full (= 1.6.2-5) | nginx-light (= 1.6.2-5) |
nginx-extras (= 1.6.2-5), nginx-full ( 1.6.2-5.1~) | nginx-light (
1.6.2-5.1~)
 | nginx-extras ( 1.6.2-5.1~)
Provided by: nginx-extras, nginx-full, nginx-light
Description: small, powerful, scalable web/proxy server
 Nginx (engine X) is a high-performance web and reverse proxy server
created by Igor Sysoev. It can be used both as a standalone web server
 and as a proxy to reduce the load on back-end HTTP or mail servers.

This is a dependency package to install either nginx-full (by default)
or nginx-light.
Homepage: http://nginx.net

Tags: implemented-in::c, interface::daemon, network::server,
network::service, protocol::http, role::program, use::proxying

As seen the package says it is a 'dependancy package' for installing
either nginx-full or nginx-light.

Then tried to install the default.

$ sudo aptitude install nginx-full -y

Sorry for the detailed output but have configured so issues such as
above can be known and figured out.

As can be seen the nginx package is not pulled in as a dependancy package.

Seems something in the post-installation scenario didn't work,
although what isn't specified.

Sharing as has been asked to :-

$ systemctl status nginx.service
