May be able to try again next weekend if I can still reproduce it. PS: I also unarchived this bug report because of other iceweasel bug report that seems to be exactly the same (should have really unarchived #797227). Just about to mail #799632 submitter cc'ing this unarchived bug report. Regards, -- Agustin

Bug#788708: iceweasel: GStreamer causes segmentation fault
Hi, gstreamer plugins maintainers I have unarchived this bug report to add more info on it. Not yet reopened it for jessie because I am not fully sure that is is the one to blame. I am having some problems in jessie similar to those reported in this bug report, although they are not yet as reproducible. Using iceweasel=38.4.0esr-1~deb8u1 and gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad+libgstreamer-plugins-bad1.0-0=1.4.4-2.1+b1 I have been finding some problems about iceweasel sudden closure. I have build a personal gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad=1.4.4-2.1.0.0+amd1 package including the patch that fixed this problem and it seemed to disappear. The reason why I am not yet reopening this bug report for jessie is that after reverting to current jessie versions (1.4.4-2.1(+b1)) I am not reproducing it, so I cannot discard that there is something else involved. Adding this info here in case anyone else is finding this problem in jessie. If so, a jessie point upload may be be useful. Regards, -- Agustin

Hi, I can confirm that removing gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad solves the issue here. (Btw, upgrading to the 1.5.90-1 version from Experimental didn't help.) Thanks a lot Agustin! This is still happening as of today ; i however don't have the problem with chromium (v44.0.2403.157-1 from sid repository)
Bug#788708: iceweasel: GStreamer causes segmentation fault
Package: iceweasel Version: 40.0.3-3 Followup-For: Bug #788708 Hi everyone! Since a recent upgrade, Iceweasel has been crashing regularly whenever a video is loaded (eg on youtube pages). The crash happens immediately and no part of the video is shown. I'm on Sid but tried different Iceweasel versions (testing, unstable and experimental). All of them were affected by the issue. I tried with an empty `.mozilla` folder and with the `-safe-mode` option - still no luck. Any hints? This happened after my last dist-upgrade yesterday ; here's the apt history (sadly there was a lot of packages involved so it's kind of messy) Start-Date: 2015-08-31 22:47:56 Commandline: apt-get dist-upgrade Install: libdrm-amdgpu1:amd64 (2.4.64-1, automatic), libdrm-amdgpu1:i386 (2.4.64-1, automatic), libopencv-ml2.4v5:amd64 (2.4.9.1+dfsg-1.2, automatic), libopencv-calib3d2.4v5:amd64 (2.4.9.1+dfsg-1.2, automatic), libbabeltrace-ctf1:amd64 (1.2.4-1, automatic), libcacard0:amd64 (2.4+dfsg-1, automatic), libexiv2-14:amd64 (0.25-2, automatic), libopencv-highgui2.4v5:amd64 (2.4.9.1+dfsg-1.2, automatic), libbotan-1.10-1:amd64 (1.10.10-6, automatic), libopenexr6v5:amd64 (1.6.1-8.1+b1, automatic), libopencv-imgproc2.4v5:amd64 (2.4.9.1+dfsg-1.2, automatic), libbabeltrace1:amd64 (1.2.4-1, automatic), libopencv-flann2.4v5:amd64 (2.4.9.1+dfsg-1.2, automatic), libopencv-legacy2.4v5:amd64 (2.4.9.1+dfsg-1.2, automatic), libwxbase3.0-0v5:amd64 (3.0.2+dfsg-1.2, automatic), libilmbase6v5:amd64 (1.0.1-6.2, automatic), libwxgtk3.0-0v5:amd64 (3.0.2+dfsg-1.2, automatic), libllvm3.5v5:amd64 (3.5.2-2, automatic), libllvm3.5v5:i386 (3.5.2-2, automatic), libopencv-features2d2.4v5:amd64 (2.4.9.1+dfsg-1.2, automatic), libwacom-bin:amd64 (0.15-1, automatic), libqscintilla2-12v5:amd64 (2.9+dfsg-8, automatic), libopencv-core2.4v5:amd64 (2.4.9.1+dfsg-1.2, automatic), libffmpegthumbnailer4v5:amd64 (2.0.8-2.1, automatic), linux-image-4.1.0-2-amd64:amd64 (4.1.6-1, automatic), libopencv-video2.4v5:amd64 (2.4.9.1+dfsg-1. 2, automatic), libopencv-objdetect2.4v5:amd64 (2.4.9.1+dfsg-1.2, automatic), libopencv-contrib2.4v5:amd64 (2.4.9.1+dfsg-1.2, automatic) Upgrade: libspice-client-gtk-3.0-4:amd64 (0.28-1, 0.29-1), libqt5concurrent5:amd64 (5.4.2+dfsg-8, 5.4.2+dfsg-9), qt5-qmake:amd64 (5.4.2+dfsg-8, 5.4.2+dfsg-9), libreoffice-base-core:amd64 (5.0.1~rc2-1, 5.0.1-1), libreoffice:amd64 (5.0.1~rc2-1, 5.0.1-1), libavformat-ffmpeg56:amd64 (2.7.2-2, 2.7.2-2+b1), qt5-default:amd64 (5.4.2+dfsg-8, 5.4.2+dfsg-9), ure:amd64 (5.0.1~rc2-1, 5.0.1-1), libreoffice-writer:amd64 (5.0.1~rc2-1, 5.0.1-1), libqt5sql5-sqlite:amd64 (5.4.2+dfsg-8, 5.4.2+dfsg-9), qtcreator:amd64 (3.4.1+dfsg-2, 3.4.1+dfsg-2+b1), glipper:amd64 (2.4-5, 2.4-6), libphonon4:amd64 (4.8.3-1, 4.8.3-2), python-wxgtk3.0:amd64 (3.0.2.0+dfsg-1, 3.0.2.0+dfsg-1+b1), libqt5opengl5:amd64 (5.4.2+dfsg-8, 5.4.2+dfsg-9), python-mutagen:amd64 (1.29-1, 1.30-1), libgexiv2-2:amd64 (0.10.3-1, 0.10.3-1+b1), libreoffice-impress:amd64 (5.0.1~rc2-1, 5.0.1-1), uno-libs3:amd64 (5.0.1~rc2-1, 5.0.1-1), libavdevice-ffmpeg56:amd64 (2.7.2-2, 2.7.2-2+b1), libreoffice-avmedia-backend-gstreamer:amd64 (5.0.1~rc2-1, 5.0.1-1), libdrm-intel1:amd64 (2.4.62-1, 2.4.64-1), libdrm-intel1:i386 (2.4.62-1, 2.4.64-1), libreoffice-base:amd64 (5.0.1~rc2-1, 5.0.1-1), qtbase5-dev-tools:amd64 (5.4.2+dfsg-8, 5.4.2+dfsg-9), wireless-regdb:amd64 (2014.11.18-1, 2015.07.20-1), libdrm-dev:amd64 (2.4.62-1, 2.4.64-1), libdrm-dev:i386 (2.4.62-1, 2.4.64-1), libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64 (10.6.3-1, 10.6.4-1), libgl1-mesa-dri:i386 (10.6.3-1, 10.6.4-1), libreoffice-draw:amd64 (5.0.1~rc2-1, 5.0.1-1), fonts-opensymbol:amd64 (102.6+LibO5.0.1~rc2-1, 102.6+LibO5.0.1-1), libdrm-radeon1:amd64 (2.4.62-1, 2.4.64-1), libdrm-radeon1:i386 (2.4.62-1, 2.4.64-1), libqt5sql5:amd64 (5.4.2+dfsg-8, 5.4.2+dfsg-9), libreoffice-core:amd64 (5.0.1~rc2-1, 5.0.1-1), libreoffice-gnome:amd64 (5.0.1~rc2-1, 5.0.1-1), gcc-mingw-w64-base:amd64 (4.9.2-21+15.4, 4.9.3-4+15.6), libnspr4:amd64 (4.10.9-1, 4.10.9-2), libnspr4:i386 (4.10.9-1, 4.10.9-2), libreoffice-sdbc-firebird:amd64 (5.0.1~rc2-1, 5.0.1-1), libpam-systemd:amd64 (224-2, 225-1), libqt5core5a:amd64 (5.4.2+dfsg-8, 5.4.2+dfsg-9), libffmpegthumbnailer-dev:amd64 (2.0.8-2+b5, 2.0.8-2.1), libpoppler-qt5-1:amd64 (0.26.5-3, 0.26.5-4), libpoppler-glib8:amd64 (0.26.5-3, 0.26.5-4), libpoppler46:amd64 (0.26.5-3, 0.26.5-4), python-cryptography:amd64 (0.9.3-1, 1.0-2), udev:amd64 (224-2, 225-1), klibc-utils:amd64 (2.0.4-2, 2.0.4-2.1), libjs-jquery:amd64 (1.11.3+dfsg-2, 1.11.3+dfsg-3), libqt5xml5:amd64 (5.4.2+dfsg-8, 5.4.2+dfsg-9), libreoffice-report-builder-bin:amd64 (5.0.1~rc2-1, 5.0.1-1), libudev-dev:amd64 (224-2, 225-1), libgegl-0.2-0:amd64 (0.2.0-7+b2, 0.2.0-7.1), libpostproc-ffmpeg53:amd64 (2.7.2-2, 2.7.2-2+b1), libudev1:amd64 (224-2, 225-1), libudev1:i386 (224-2, 225-1), libqt5test5:amd64 (5.4.2+dfsg-8, 5.4.2+dfsg-9), libxatracker2:amd64 (10.6.3-1, 10.6.4-1), libqt5printsupport5:amd64 (5.4.2+dfsg-8, 5.4.2+dfsg-9), libreoffice-help-en-us:amd64 (5.0.1~rc2-1, 5.0.1-1), libswscale-ffmpeg3:amd64 (2.7.2-2, 2.7.2-2+b1), dictionaries-common:amd64 (1.26.2, 1.26.3), libdvdnav4:amd64 (5.0.1-4, 5.0.3-1), llvm-3.5:amd64 (3.5.2-1, 3.5.2-2), gdb:amd64 (7.7.1+dfsg-5, 7.9.1-1), libpoppler-qt4-4:amd64 (0.26.5-3, 0.26.5-4), python3-uno:amd64 (5.0.1~rc2-1, 5.0.

I can reproduce this problem with 38.2.1esr-1 in unstable as well as 40.0.3-1 in experimental. Vising any page embedding video (including YouTube or Twitter) crashes Iceweasel as soon as the video would start to play. I have gstreamer1.0-plugins-base 1.4.5-2, gstreamer1.0-plugins-{good,bad,ugly} 1.4.5-2+b2, and gstreamer1.0-libav 1.4.5-3. - Josh Triplett
Bug#788708: iceweasel: GStreamer causes segmentation fault
This looks at first glance like some GStreamer element(s) could not be created, such as appsink, maybe others too; possibly because the required GStreamer plugins are not installed. Combined with insufficient error handling. I note that this bug was reported against an iceweasel version that uses the old and unmaintained GStreamer 0.10.x. The current iceweasel version uses GStreamer 1.x, and I can't reproduce this problem with 38.2.0esr-1 either.
Bug#788708: iceweasel: GStreamer causes segmentation fault
can't reproduce using 38.2.0esr-1~deb7u1
