Bug#867723: ejabberd: `dpkg-reconfigure ejabberd` fails with `Can't register admin user`

2017-07-10 Thread Soren Stoutner
Phillip,

Thank you for your quick response. Before submitting the bug, I had tried to
manually register a user with version 16.09-4 and received the same error you
documented. However, I am able to manually register the admin user with
17.04-1~exp2, so it would be appropriate to lower the severity.

Thanks for your assistance.

Soren

P.S. Note that I still get an `erl_crash.dump` file every time `dpkg-
reconfigure ejabberd` is run on 17.04-1~exp2, so there are likely some other
incompatibilities introduced with the Erlang 20 transition.

I just tried this version, and it still works for me!

This message also appears if there's a conflict because the account
already exists.

Please try manually with
ejabberdctl register "$USER" "$HOST" "$PASSWD"
and check with
ejabberdctl registered_users "$HOST"

Bug#867723: ejabberd: `dpkg-reconfigure ejabberd` fails with `Can't register admin user`

2017-07-09 Thread Philipp Huebner
Hi,

please note that this problem does not render the package unusable, you
can still create your own configuration and get a working ejabberd,
all that's broken here is the "automatic" base setup using dpkg-reconfigure.

> Can't register admin user "so...@ejabberd.stoutner.com".

Does ejabberd.stoutner.com correctly resolve to the host you're
installing ejabberd on?

In order to really help you I would need the following files:
* /etc/ejabberd/*
* /etc/default/ejabberd
* /var/log/ejabberd/*
* /etc/hostname
* /etc/hosts

Bug#867723: ejabberd: `dpkg-reconfigure ejabberd` fails with `Can't register admin user`

2017-07-08 Thread Soren Stoutner
Package: ejabberd
Version: 17.04-1~exp2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

After performing a new ejabberd install on Debian testing, running
`dpkg-reconfigure ejabberd` produces the folling error:

root@mail:/home/soren# dpkg-reconfigure ejabberd

The ejabberd database has been backed up to
/var/backups/ejabberd-2017-07-08T14:08:25.vzaIOQ/ejabberd-database.

Replacing config file /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.yml with new version
Waiting for ejabberd to register admin user
Can't register admin user "so...@ejabberd.stoutner.com".

A 1.5 MB `erl_crash.dump` file is created in `/var/log/ejabberd`.  I can upload
the file to a webserver and link to it if it is valuable for troubleshooting.

I initially enountered this error with the 16.09-4 package in testing.
Upgrading to the 17.04-1~exp2 package in experimental produces the same result.
