That's an artifact of my process. Let me briefly explain my process such that you can suggest improvements: I "apt-get source" the source package. I use "apt-get source", rather than debcheckout, because it lets me reproduce the precise failure I've seen in the logs. Then I run "dch -i" to create a new changelog entry and fix the problem. Doing so lets me debdiff two .dsc files, which I can easily attach to the bug report. Is DEBCHANGE_AUTO_NMU=yes a useful default? This process is fairly efficient on my side, because it works uniformly across the whole archive. I acknowledge that producing salsa pull requests would be more comfortable on the receiving side, but my experience with unreleased checkouts is less than stellar. Using dgit might work better, but it seems that too few packages (i.e. less than 1%) are maintained with dgit for this to become useful. That could be a chicken & egg problem.
