Bug#917457: libilmbase23: 2.3.0-3 bumped so name without transition (breaks digikam, gimp, ...)
Followup-For: Bug #917457 Hi, this seems to be fixed in 2.3.0-4 by introducing a libilmbase24 package, but this lacks Breaks+Replaces: libilmbase23 (>= 2.3) to properly upgrade from the buggy package in case someone installed libilmbase23 from experimental. Apparently people did ... and found this bug. Andreas

Its amazing how people think they can put garbarge in experimental and still expecting code to be tested and surprised to discover breakage only once they reach unstable. Breaking gimp, digikam is a major failure... I do not see the problem with letting the bug and say will not will before transition.

Check numbering and SONAME versioning for ilmbase actually in unstable and testing. You'll see how there's a pattern for that. > 2. Opening bug reports against packages in unstable/sid which breaks stuff... that's a real thing. > 3. libilmbase23 2.3.0-3 is a package in Debian. Yes, it's a package in Debian... experimental suite, which is not supposed to be used by users other than developers working on bleeding-edge/easily-breaking piece of software. Cheers. -- Matteo F. I do not understand your reasoning at all. What part of these argument chain do you disagree with? 1. libilmbase23 2.3.0-3 is rc buggy because it does not contain the library its name claims. If one installs libilmbase23 2.3.0-3 e.g. hugin will stop working. 2. We have Debian bug tracking system for tracking bugs in packages in Debian. 3. libilmbase23 2.3.0-3 is a package in Debian. cu Andreas

Andreas, I'll open a specific transition bug report for that, once I've tested all r-deps but not earlier. Thus, I'll leave this bug report closed since it tracks another issue (or feature, at your choice ;) ). Cheers. Il giorno sab 29 dic 2018, 07:19 Andreas Metzler ha scritto: > On 2018-12-27 "Matteo F. Hello, please re-open. The package is in Debian.
